Now that I've upgraded to 2.1, I've noticed something weird. When the phone is on vibrate and I receive a text message it doesn't vibrate anymore, but when getting a call it vibrates. HUH?
I was gonna post this in the 2.1 after effect but I figured it would get lost in that huge thread.
Thanks.
There is a setting in the Messenger app called Notification Vibration, maybe that has to be turned on in order for it to vibrate for text messages even if the phone is set to vibrate?
Thank you JDDawn, that was it.
Where is this setting
Go to messaging press the menu key and go to settings go to notification settings then scroll down to vibrate and click always

Just checking in with the community on this one. I have vibrations enabled in the sounds menu but the phone does not vibrate when I receive a phone call or text message. The phone DOES vibrate when I type and for calendar alerts.
Am I missing an option somewhere?

For texting to vibrate you have to check "vibrate" under the sounds menu and then in the actual messaging app, if you go to settings, there's another checkbox or "vibrate" .. I couldnt figure out why mine wasnt vibrating last night. Turns out it was checked in the messaging app, but unchecked in the settings->sounds.
I have looked up and down on XDA and Google, they all say go to settings in the default messaging app and turn off notifications. I did all that, but I still receive two sound alerts and two visual notifications. I attached a picture. I use GO SMS, I just want to receive one darn notification not two!! Please help XDA Guru's!

are you sure you turn off? do you have another SMS notification installed? like SMS pop up,if dont just make sure disable in settings on default notification sms app.
uninstall and reinstall GO SMS
When you turn off the setting hit the back button NOT the home button. Pressing home will not comfirm the setting.
Do this and I can almost guarantee that it will work.

I did that still nothing, the settings are saved when I go back into the settings portion of the default SMS app
So I have never used the vibrate volume level until today. The phone does vibrate when hovering over the vibrate option, however when text messages come through it does not vibrate at all. I have the stock firmware and I did a battery pull and still no luck. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a fix for this?
Thanks
Tried going into the settings in the message app? Sometimes you have to enable it.

You will need to set it in settings. Go to the messaging app that you use, whether it is stock, handcent, GO SMS, etc, then there should be an option within the settings.
For stock messaging app, you would want to enter settings, and under the notifications menu, there should be options where you can toggle vibration.
So I have been having this problem since I got my phone. I can set my phone to vibrate in the setting yet it refuses to vibrate when silent or when receiving a text message. The examples work in the settings but fails to actually happen in a real life situations. I tried installing Sms Pro to fix this yet it still doesn't work.
With a text message or something else like Google Talk? Mine will vibrate with a new text message using the stock app.
Go to the main conversation page in messages -> menu -> settings -> notification settings -> change the vibrate settings to your liking. For some reason the vibrate settings for messages is separate from the global settings for notifications in the main settings of the phone.

Thank you for the help but i have set it in the notification setting in sms pro and it has done nothing. Also there is no option for vibrate in the stick messaging app's settings. I have juice defender installed i thought maybe that could be contributing to it though when disable it still wont vibrate. I appreciate the help but i'm kinda at my wits end with this.
Just checked and you are right, there is no vibrate setting in the stock messaging app. However, if you select the option "display notifications in status bar" it uses the vibrate setting from the main phone settings - all status bar notifications do.
I just sent myself a text message and it definitely vibrates.
lol I am trying to figure out how to disable message virbation...
Setting>sound>vibration> Always/Never/Only in silent mode/ only when NOT in silent mode ... mines set on always and it always vibrates lol

Exactly. When "display notifications in status bar" is set in the messaging app, the main phone settings will enable - or disable - vibration. For better or for worse this means you can't turn it on or off for texts w/o also turning it on or off for all other status bar notifications...
Handcent is working for me, with customizable vibration.

Is there a way to disable the screen from turning on when a notification is received? When I go to pull the note out I'm either hitting random keys on a text or dialing something. Is there a way to stop that?

First things first..I assume you are sending a recieving text messages, so here is my question. What app do you use for texting handcent or go sms....
for example I use handcent ass my messaging app so in the settings of handcent this is how you disable the screen on when you receive a notification.
Setting>Notification settings>Notificaton Settings (again) >scroll down and a box will be there were you can turn on/off the screen when you receive a message using the pop up option.
Idk if this helped but.. if anything let me know what apps your using or the version of android your running. The more info you post the more we can help you. Thanks
