Anyone know what the LED capabilities are for this phone and if anyone plans on making an LED control app?
Thanks

Actually I was hoping for something similar to the mytouch 3g trackball... my wife and I both have a MT4G it would have been an awesome addition.

Yeah, wish they'd included the light ring around the trackpad like on the G2...would've been sweet. The indicator light would be something, but you have to be so close to see it that it may not really be of much use to most.

You can use echo commands to manipulate the leds on your handsets.
For example, in terminal emulator, adb shell, or using Gscript:
Code:
echo 1 > /sys/class/leds/flashlight/brightness
Which should turn your flash on. Replacing the 1 with a 0 will turn it off, or simply put your phone to sleep. Use a file manager to see what other kind of leds you can manipulate by exploring the /sys/class/leds path.
I do know there was an app that lets you utilize different leds for different notifications, text, gmail, etc. I forget the name, though. It was made by an HTC Desire user. Maybe he'll provide support for the Mytouch 4G in the future. (if it doesn't already work, that is)
Taking a peek with SUFBS shows entries for amber, button-backlight, flashlight, green, and lcd-backlight. So there could be potential here.

yeah there is. one is made specifically by motorola for the droids, I tried and am using it: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.motorola.dlight&feature=search_result
the first time you open it it be be on the "on" position, but the led wont be on. you gotta toggle it off and on again for it to work from then on.

Worked like a charm for me. Thanks
found a problem with it, the LED stayed on when I hit a menu button and jumped to the home screen. Task manager says the app is not running. When you open Droidlight again no light bulb appears. Anybody else have that problem?
Is there a root app to make it brighter? This brightness level won't work for me.

Had the same problem with the motorola app. In fact (I use ADW so not sure if that was playing a part) last night while playing I ran in to a situation with the led stuck on and the app wouldn't relaunch. Very flaky. I think I'll wait until someone makes a widget app specifically for us.

Tiny Flashlight + LED should work on Atrix. Also, it has a widget.

I had the same issue with Tiny Flashlight that I did with DroidLight (I actually tried it first). (Though I will say the LED never got stuck on - it was just slow and would get confused between the state of the widget and the state of the LED).
What's the best flashlight app for the atrix that utilizes the dual led flash for the camera?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I use extended controls and it had a widget that you can add a button for light. Uses both led's
Wish we could get the htc one though. It had 3 power settings. Was awesome.

Try this one. It is from Motorola and is compatible with the Atrix:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.motorola.dlight&feature=related_apps
The best part, it's free. Extended Controls does work but it costs money.
This one is what I am using and it works perfect.

Brightest Flashlight free.
Moto Droid light works well, and is quite bright. Unfortunately it also has a tendency to crash or lock the camera if the screen locks while it is running.

I use "LED Light" and it has a sweet widget for quick access. It's been a life saver at times!

Not perfect, it has a lag time for turning the LED on or off whereas DroidLight, for example, is instantaneous. The lag time isn't even consistent and the screen doesn't indicate the change at the same time. Happily replaced that app with DroidLight thanks to this thread.
On a side note, DroidLight doesn't let you leave the LED on and do other things... the light turns off once you leave the app screen.

Oh wait, I thought he was talking about the native flashlight app. I didn't think there was a no-led app in the hub??
I just Shoot3d in my pants.
I was talking about no led.. I hate that I the notification light doesnt flash while charging so I use no led.. it only works if you do not have some sort of "no lock" software running.
NoLed
On my HTC EVO 3D, when is NoLed app on and when i have for example missed call or i get sms, screen dont want to turn off.
Anybody know why? Same thing with simmilar apps.

Um? Push notifications? Gotta find apps that support them. Android does but I'm surprised at how few apps take advantage. Something that just looks like ios notifications? Uh... Wish I knew what they looked like to help.

what kind of notifications are you talking about?
ios 5 style notifications that appear on the top of your screen instead of the status bar.

Have you tried miui closest to rom.to looking like iphone os
lol i've actually wanted the same thing a few times.
let's see if i can explain a bit better.
you know that time when you're playing a game or watching a video or doing something full screen and you get a text? you feel the phone vibrate, but you cant read it or see who it's from or anythign. ios has a neat little toast-like notification that pops down from the top for a second before dissapearing again to tell you the info.
the easiest way to do this for android without making a whole new notification system would be to add toast notifications to messages and stuff.
yes that is exactly what I need. Can anyone find something like that?
Tasker would probably be able to do it, though it may be a bit of a pain to set up, especially if you're not familiar with how Tasker works. There may be a tutorial somewhere for doing something like that.
what is tasker?
I know one which does that, but it's wp7 style... It's called wp7 notifications.

Guys! I have 2 apps that do this. 1 was specifically for this, the other I didn't know had it. Text notify (that's the app name) does exactly this but it's near the bottom of the screen. Maybe 1/4 from the bottom. Then I got true caller Id, which might be questionable because it prompts you saying by using this app your contact list gets added to their database... But True caller id puts the notifications at the top like you described. Both apps free.

I just check my data usage in the phone settings and apparently my flashlight app is using a TON of data. How is this possible? Has anyone else had this happen?
Sent from my EVO using XDA
Not sure which flashlight app you're using, but that certainly doesn't seem right. I like Tiny Flashlight, primarily because you can turn it on from the lockscreen just by shaking the phone. It reports zero data usage, for what it's worth.
Malware is how that's possible. Could also be a terribly inefficient ad engine, but that seems unlikely given how much data it's using. Report that app to Google and uninstall it.
Tiny flashlight is good. I use TeslaLED because I like Teslacoil software.

LOVE Teslacoil! Nova Prime and WidgetLocker are both great apps and well worth the few bucks they want for them.

Also I checked my usage and the HTC flashlight doesn't even show up on usage...

I'm using the HTC Flashlight and it doesn't even show up on my usage list. Probably because it isn't using any data. I'd suspect something is wrong on your phone.
Is it possible to have another app that spoofs as the flashlight when it shows up in usage? I ask because the flashlight shouldn't be using any data at all, and I don't know if its just the image quality, but the flashlight image in your screenshot doesn't look like the htc one to me. It's very close, but it's just a bit off.
I got the stock HTC flashlight, and it uses 0 data.

This is a good thought. OP, can you uninstall or disable the HTC app? If so, and the data usage continues with that same icon, it's probably safe to assume something else is spoofing it.
I had some trouble uninstalling. HTC hub didn't recognize that it was installed. Once I finally uninstalled the app with root explorer, I had trouble getting HTC hub to properly REinstall that app. I had to find an old apk from xda, install that, then HTC hub allowed me to update that app.
I'll keep a close eye on the data usage to see if it continues to change.
Thanks guys

Where did you install it from in the first place? If HTC hub didn't recognize it as installed then I'm guessing you got the apk from elsewhere and it was a fake...

It was included in the rom I downloaded. I never installed the flashlight app myself. I control the led flash from my homescreen with the SwitchPro widget. The only reason I noticed it was even installed was when I checked my data usage.

Well, if you look at HTC Hub the icon in his screenshot marches the icon they use in the hub BUT the screenshot doesn't match the icon in the app drawer. The icon in Hub definitely has less of a tint to it than the icon used in drawer.
