[Q] Can I reinstall paid apps on a new Android device - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I have done a search on this question but so far have not found an answer...I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10i and I have paid apps as well as free apps stored on my device. My question is can I reinstall these apps (especially the paid apps) on my new Android device?
Any help in this matter would be much appreciated.
Kind regards
Scott

Yes, I believe so, as the Market place in Android uses your google account, so if you register with that account on the new phone, it should allow you to download the paid apps.
I have not tried so can not gurantee this,

I just tried this and yes, it works.
Make sure you use the same Google Account you had when you purchased the app.
Unfortunately, I don't think they have a "history" of your previous apps so you're gonna have to search for them on the Market. It should show up as "Purchased" where it says Free or the price for it. Then, it gives you the option to install it once you select it (and, nope, you don't have to pay again).

you have two choices
1.- root your device and install titanium back up or any other backup program you feel comfortable whit
2.- as teenyah, pratishk told you before, use your same Google account that you use to pay your apps, and as for the free apps,, as i told you in number 1 you need to back up them,, is more easy than go and look on by one on market store.
i did those steps before i went from 1.6 to 2.1, i had my xperia x10a rooted, and back up all the apps, and when i mend all is all i haven't had the pay app of titanium back up,, so you need to do the back up in batch programming is a pain in the ass but for a free app, as far as i know is the best one...
hope that helps

Thank you all for your very helpful responses and I am pleased to confirm that all works as you described. Much appreciated.

Hi. I would like to update the firmware of my Samsung Galaxy Tab.
I wonder how to reinstall all my apps (paid and free) without problems. Can I use my AppBrain program to re-install all my apps after this firmware update?

[Q] How to transfer apps from Captivate to Atrix

I am trying to figure out the best way to transfer apps from my rooted Captivate to the Atrix. Titanium backup would be the natural choice, but it only works on a rooted phone which the Atrix isn't, at least for now. I could go to the android web page https://market.android.com/ and tell it to download each app separately. But I am wondering if there is a non rooted backup/restore app that will let me selectively backup/restore?? I say selectively because I do not want to restore those apps that require a rooted phone.
Then there is the question of the market place which saves your downloaded app list linked to your gmail account. I do not want market place to remember those apps I don't want on the Atrix. So the question is how do you instruct the market place to "forget" installed apps? The only way I know of would be to install ALL the apps via either a backup program or thru the web client, then de-install those from the phone I don't want which would then wipe them out from market place account so they will not keep re-appearing in my app list.
I should have my Atrix in my hands this Monday!
I would too like to know this. Thanks to anyone who knows the answer!
Try AppMonster.....there's a pro version as well
I would suggest App Brain personally...That's what I've been using during my time with my EVO.

App brain, a trackdog, and appbak
Captivate 2.2.1 Paragon
Actually, AppBrain and all those "add-on Markets" won't work with the Atrix out of the box. AT&T disallowed sideloading and that counts apps like that.
On the plus side, the Atrix has already been rooted (read the first topic in the Dev section of the Atrix forum)...so it lets you do anything you want.
Check the Atrix dev sub forum - They have root!

GREAT
OK looks like we are going to have our Atrix rooted and Titanium backup working but there is still the problem of the market links. There is some reference to market links in Titanium backup but not sure if that works to enable updates and there's still the issue of un-installed not wanted apps getting unregistered with market place. I had lost some apps and reinstalled with Titanium backup and I am not sure if I regained the market links or not. I am certainly not complaining and expect to spend many hours setting up the phone...thats part of the fun. Until a solution appears the best way to handle this may be to install the apps separately from the market place or via the web. I will try other programs others have suggested and post a solution here if found.
You can still sideload via ADB - so if you have the APK file it is simple to side load many.
How do you extract your own apk's? Been wondering this for a while now

You can use adb to pull them off your phone...

App brain only side loads? I though by synching my account, it would allow me to re download all applications from the market that is how it checks for upgrades anyway.
I use.app brain to actually check for updates to apparently o had installed through Titanium, apparently that do NOT have market links.
Captivate 2.2.1 Paragon
MyAppList
The free program MyAppList will make a text file of all the apps installed on your phone. I am going to un-install any apps i do not want installed on the Atrix. Then print out MyAppList. Then go to the market place on my Captivate and goto "my apps" so that the market updates what I do and do not have on the phone. When the Atrix arrives, I will register with my same email. Then on the Atrix i will go to the market place so it will update the installed list. Then I will go market place on the PC and install all of my listed apps, checking off each one on MyAppList as I go. The advantages are I will be sure to get all the apps, there will be no question as to what is or is not installed, the Atrix will automatically install the apps and the apps will get updates thru the market. I have 397 apps installed on the phone, maybe 225 of them are 3rd party apps so it may take a couple of hours to download and install them all but since the Atrix runs so quickly it may go a lot faster.
My Captivate is maxed out. I have a lot of widgets running and am constantly running out of memory. And then there is the lag problem which gets worse when you are running out of memory. With 1 gig of ram there is plently of memory with room to spare. This is going to be a very welcomed upgrade.
I am wondering exactly when the phones will arrive at the AT&T store. Are there Sunday deliveries? Monday is Presidents Day. I am going to the store tomorrow (Sunday) to see if they arrived and see if they will give it to me.....

[Q] Updating apps from sd card

Is there a way of updating apps i have downloaded onto my sd card ? I have a few installed but cant update them because i did'nt get them from the apps market place
Thanks
SD card has nothing to do with it, they're simply not linked with the market entry. Titanium Backup has an option to fix it called "Market Doctor".
Does this work with any downloaded app and on any phone ?
I have a HTC HD2 windows phone but has been altered to run on android
Thanks
Well, any rooted phone... I've got no idea what it'll do if the device isn't. It has worked with any application I've restored so far, meaning applications that were either free or that I bought.
I've got no idea what it'll do if the app is not in your account... which wouldn't be a good idea to begin with.
Tried the titanium backup ,still cant update apps from sd card ?
Did you do long-press on app, Attach to market (forced) in Titanium?
Done that but it's asking me to pay for the update
That has to be a different issue... if it's in your account, the Market replaces all "Buy" buttons with ones saying "Purchased", no matter whether you actually have it installed. Is it listed under "My Apps" this way?
Where did you get the apps from in the first place?
If you got them from another app store ie. Getjar, Amazon etc. you can only update through that store, even though it may be available on the Android Market.
EDIT: Unless, of course, they're free. Then you can just download the app you want updating from the Market, which will then notify you of future updates.
I downloaded it from a file share torrent. The app itself costs money so was looking to try and upgrade for free .There have been quite a few updates from the one i have downloaded so all the functions wont work , i have the basic things working but not all
In that case let me congratulate you on obtaining a free virus. Hopefully Google is as good at reading logs as they are at reading webpages.

You know that what you're doing is illegal, right?
How can you expect updates for a paid app if you don't pay for it. People have to download it legally, crack it, and upload it to fileshare sites for every single update, so the update process isn't going to be fast.
I suggest you stop stealing and pay for the apps you want.
The actual app i downloded is free ,i am new to all this and only found out after downloading it ,dont think downloading free apps from a share site is illegal
Have a look at an app called Atrackdog. There are 2 versions one of which is to update apps on the SD card. The apps don't have to be from the market as far as I am aware.

[Q] Android Market Question

Okay I have applications on my tablet that i got through alternative ways, and the market shows i payed for them but i didn't so i cannot update them. I want to pay so i can get updates but the problem is i cant get the market to allow me to pay for them because its linked to my google account. Is there a way around it so i can pay for it? I tried using titanium backup to destroy the market link but that's a no go, still shows i payed it so i cant buy to update. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and i will hit your thanks button.
Try and backup the app + data, uninstall, reboot, purchase and restore just the data.
Have you tried uninstalling the app(s) using Titanium Backup (keep the backup, just hit the uninstall button) ,then go to the market, re-install and purchase the app? Even though the market says purchased, when you go to update, you will never be able to without actually purchasing through the market because the market keeps track of what you purchase by association of your gmail. Tempting as it may be, NEVER get paid apps outside of the market for at least 2 important reasons : 1. SUPPORT DEVS! These apps take time and expertise and a number of other things, I'm sure you don't work for free, right? 2. Malware can be added to apps and you won't even know it, even if you use the latest/best antivirus/malware protection available! At least in the market you have a degree of protection against such bad things because a Dev does not want bad reviews and Google's Bouncer checks apps before they are allowed to be listed to minimize the chance of mailicious software. Sorry, really tried hard not to preach, just some friendly advice.

I have had this issue before too, and all my apps are from legal sources. OP may have done nothing wrong, because Amazon app store, getjar, and others show up this way in the Market. In TiBu, you can long press a problem app and select unattach to market and it will not show up. But if you want updates and to keep your data, the best way is what Gibeon said.
Correct I've gotten and paid on other markets. Ty for all the suggestions, ill try them out. Some apps I don't know what market I used for payment, but I rather just to buy again then figure it out. I did try uninstalling through titanium backup, a while back I used titanium backup and used the option of market doctor and somehow it links it to Google and can't figure it out to get rid of it. If I delete an app and destroy market link and go to Google online even with my computer it says I have purchased it already but errors out to get it. I'll mess around with it, shoot I guess I can make a second gmail to do it lol. Again thanks for your help

How do I remove apps to be able to purchase through sale?

I have a few "less than legal" apps, I want to remove them (including the false "Purchased" status from the Market) so that I can legitimately purchase them. Can anyone help?
The easiest way is to just uninstall them and then buy them. This may remove user data. Another way would be to use titanium backup to detach the app from market so that you can buy it, otherwise it will show as already installed. This method will let you keep user data.
Questions about "less than legal apps" can and will get you flamed on xda.
Since you are trying to legitimately purchase them, I decided to help you out by answering your question.
Assuming you are rooted, the best way is to download the free version of titanium backup and deleted them though that app. Be careful that you know what you are deleting with it, you can delete vital files if you just go on a deleting spree!
You could also goto Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All >
Find the app, and delete it from there.
Thank you, I wasn't trying to break the rules. I am rooted, have TB, and have tried detaching from Market, uninstalling, wiping Market data/cache/updates, but it still shows Purchased and won't allow me to buy it.

Did you clear data on the app in TB? Not sure what else to try. Cannot be of any more help sorry.
I'm having the same problem. I had only one application and now I want to buy it. How can I? I tried uninstalling apps, Detaching using Titanium backup etc. Problem is even after the Google play store listing this as Purchased.
Let me begin by saying that I in no way condone pirating apps and such, but since you are changing your ways...
Try wiping data and uninstalling apps, then add or create a new google account in Settings>Accounts. Then go to Market (Google Play, whatever), hit the menu button, click Accounts and switch it to your new account, and go get the apps that you want to legitimately aquire..
The down sides are that you can only use a CC with the 2nd accnt to make purchases, and u got to keep and worry about two diff accounts when changing roms and whatnot.
You can't change the purchased status on the google server, In other words you are screwed, unless you want to email google with your problem and have them change it (not advised)
the two options you have is : make a new google account and loose everything you have now or find an alternative app that does the same (better or worse)
Here's a though : E-mail the developers.
Ask if there is a way you can send them the money directly (paypal, money order, etc)
to make up for the fact that you now have purchased status in the market.
They are humans like you and I, and my understand and even appreciate your honesty and intention for bringing it up. They may even let you off the hook! Make sure you apologise , of course.

This is how you solve it mate (remember to thank )
The way to get around this issue on both Gingerbread & ICS is as follows:
Wipe Market data, uninstall market (or uninstall market updates)
Install old version of Market (version 2.3.6 - you need to find the .apk from XDA)
Open old version of Market and buy/download the app
Tada!
This worked for me.. I was in a similar situation! Trust me you don't need to contact Google or create another account or any of that mallarky! Just do the three steps above and your laughing!

If you completely remove the Market/GoogPlay and reinstall, you're going to lose any other apps that you already legitimately paid for.. aren't you? I was going to do this but I was afraid to lose the more expensive apps that I purchased if I wiped the Market from my system..
I had a couple of non-market apps that I wanted to pay for through the market, and two gmails anyway so, I figured why not...
All apps from both accounts show up on my phone together, they are only separate when I go into the market - but that's why they have an Accounts button in the menu, right?

UPDATE: I just received a reply email from a game dev and their response said it was Google's issue and there's no fix yet, but they advised me to another xda thread:

Finally got it working!! It seems that on old Market versions this bug did not exist. So I did the following:
Method 1:
1. Go to Settings\Applications\Manage applications\All\
2. Look for "Market" or "Google Play Store"
3. Click on "Uninstall Updates"
4. Now go to the Market (should be the old green/white version) and install your desired app. It should no longer say "Purchased" and Presto!!
But you have to be fast before the market updates itself to "Google Play Store" or you can freeze the "Market Updater" app using Titanium Backup so you can do your thing without worring of it updating to the new version.
Method 2:
Find an old Market apk and replace the current one. Not sure which version it works because once I purchased my app it immediately updated the market and didn't give me chance to see the version .Should be the green/white app we had before.
Hope it works for you guys too!

[Q] Play store after root

I've followed the entire 'root the sony tablet' thing with interest and admiration for those involved. No idea how you did it. And when I can remember my paypal log in I'll send a few GBP to Condi.
And so with a certain nervousness I took the plunge and rooted my UK tablet and installed ICS using Condi's AiO tool. All went very well, tablet working fine.
Anyway I do have a couple of questions, hopefully someone has the answer:
First one, I installed the modded play store app from the AiO tool. It appeared to install, no errors reported. However after reboot it looked exactly the same as before. So should it look different to the UK one?
Second question, I assumed after root I'd be able to remove some of the Sony installed apps. Am I right to think that, is it possible.
Thanks in advance
Don't delete files that only makes your system unstable, but since you have ics you can disable your apps, in settings, but dont disable the question mark app because it will disable other apps too that you want to keep,
You must download Playstation Store from the insternet manually, search XDA forums,
This app is not downloadable for no one at least not from the market,
I don't want to disable any important stuff, I meant things like music umlimited for example. Is it possible to uninstall that sort of app
Not sure what you mean about the Play Store, I ran the modded play store app option from the AiO tool, but it didn't make any difference.
But thanks anyway
Oh sorry xD, I thought you ment the "Playstation" store, but indeed i did that too "Modded version" but that didn't work for me either,
You cannot disable Music unlimited, but yes you can uninstall,
Instal Rom toolbox free, and make a backup from the app, then uninstall that app, if you ever think you want to reinstall it again, then you know that you have a stable version on your own tab also if it gives you issues after deleting the app
