[Q] Why doesn't the X10 natively support Arabic? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
This may have been discussed before so sorry if it was.
Why doesn't the X10 support Arabic? How hard is it to do so? All other SE phones do. There are 400 MILLION Arabic speaking people in the world and another 1.1 BILLION who can read/write Arabic because of their religion/culture.
So why is it taking so long? I hope someone has an answer!
Thanks!

Basically because Google does not support it, the problem is not from Sony Ericsson, as all the android devices currently don't support Arabic as well.

I guess Android doesn't understand Arabic

hehehe. Maybe we can teach it?

wait just a little bit longer, if my info is correct, the next big update in January should support Arabic and many other language natively without rooting required

I hope so! I will be a very satisfied Sony Ericsson customer if they do!

As mentioned before, it's not SE's fault. It doesn't support thai either.
Besides, there aren't 1.4 billion people who know arabic. Most countries that utilize the language has a high rate of illiteracy, speaking does not mean they can read/write it. That doesn't mean it shouldn't be supported, but nowhere near 1.4 billion people can read/write it. =P

Well, there are still at least 400 million people whose first language is Arabic! So I think it should be supported ASAP!

THAT I can agree with

Because one of googles founders is Jewish?
Im just kidding and its obviously not the case because hebrew is not supported either.

hehehe Hebrew and Arabic are closely related to each other as they are both semitic languages. They are both written/read from right-to-left. So supporting one, makes it easier to support the other. Also, a lot of third party applications support both languages because of the fact that they are related.

Thats the joke lol. But im surprised no one made an app like israel pack. Ill try to mod it for arabic but i cant test it since i only know hebrew. Gimme a couple weeks to work on it...

Didn't want to have a go at you but since I've seen people get slaughtered on these forums when they don't really deserve it I think its only fair.
This thread deserves slaughtering! "They" do know how far they are, but so do I - I know they still haven't cracked it.
So how can they give you a timeline? If they could then they would have cracked it. They aren't waiting for a progress bar to reach 100%, they are actually trying to hack into it. I don't even now anything about android development but I'm intelligent enough to realise it takes work, especially when its not paid for. Let them get on with it and don't pressure them with stupid questions making them look incompetent.
Please close this thread! It's a useless topic

Buddy your post is worthless they dont know the poster above u explained it to you.. they might think their close but they can also run into a problem that would get them stuck for a long time.. so noone knows wait and see like the rest of us.. thats why there is a thread like custom rom dev and excelent progress on cyanogen so you can read whats going on and what the progress is. Read the forum.
And i also think the mods should close this thread as it is a joke.

For you to understand.. Lets say they are @ 99,99%, 1 small tiny thing can enormously slow down the proses or even make it (almost) impossible. No realistic person can put a timeline on these jobs.
A smart dev will never say it almost done before its really done.

Obviously some regular users on this forum don't get it. For a newbie, these forums are very, very difficult to extract exact information from.
There are so many different threads to look at.
Then once you find the thread, sometimes you still can't get an answer because the language spoken, is very much developer only.
A simple, no, they haven't cracked it yet, but they are still working very hard, would have been an easy, quick answer for all who was looking.

Why don't you guys just look at the developers thread and see how far away they are? You make your own assumptions but at least you will know what they are working on at the moment. Like last I checked was working on ram disks. But please no posts. Just look if your curious.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Right now, imho no one works on cracking the bootloader, but the managed to boot from a custom ramdisk, however its still far from a full working image (right now its more a proof of concept) usable for simple users.
That is my impression as well after reading the dev thread.
It seems they "gave up" on the bootloader, or are focusing on booting the stock kernel, and after that instead of running the stock init scripts and OS to load another OS. (but the kernel is the same)
please correct me if i'm wrong.
I'm in no hurry to get a custom OS, but i'd still appreciate if the guys who are working on it could let us know, what exactly they're doing (no timelines of course)

Its not "multitouch", its " pinch-to-zoom" since, as much as i read SE blog, multitouch will not be fully supported by our Device. Also, as SE blog stated, its not gonna be anything fancy/pro, so we cant expect games like on iPhone (damn..beside zooming in Browser and pictures i see no other use for it). And SE also clearly stated that there will be no more updates of Android platform for x8 and x10 series, just firmware updates. So, we are stuck on 2.1 until someone crack bootloader or SE decide to give us open access to boot (hardly gonna happen).
O.K.. so I signed the petition.. but why do we want a custom "Room"?

[Q] Original ROM?

Greetings,
The reason I want to install a new ROM is because, for some reason, my phone doesn't have android market; and I couldn't find another way to install market applications or to buy android market.
My questions are:
Is there an original ROM somewhere? that is, a ROM that was taken from an xperia mini pro (with android market)
Do custom ROMs have Android Market in them?
I'm a total newbie, so sorry if I'm asking the obvious
Thank you
Here all rom has the market.
Great, thanks Andreson
But are there any original ROMs?
You could use the PC Companion to restore your phone back to the original ROM
I have market'd rom.

Hey bro,
This wouldn't work because he has already said that his stock doesn't have the Android Market. This to me would mean that his country doesn't support the market yet, which is an odd thought. Anywho, flashing that should work for you, unless you have the mini in which case it wont since its from mini pro.
Peace,
evilbarcode.
i believe it's not the region problem, i believe every android support the market.

You are right, the android market is supported by android in all regions but cell companies themselves may not support it. They are the ones who make the software their own (add their own bloatware and shiz like that). If this guy bought the device from a company that doesnt support market then the phone will not have market on it, but it is still able to have the market installed. Follow?
So in which case instead of flashing the rom i posted, best bet is to follow the link you posted. It would be easier and then he can stay on the same fw his cell company provided.
Cheers,
evilbarcode.
just as evilbarcode said, about the company thing, every android devices should support the market apps.

where are our colleague developers Paul and Slade!

guys does anyone knows where Slade is?? it's been since he released gintonic 2.5.1 not shown and not updating his work!
and by the way Paul said in his post he wont develop because his phone is burnt by a Chinese charger what can we do for our friend Paul as a reward for his work?? do you believe that we should do our best to provide him with a new x10 mini pro??
please let us try to get our best developers back to our community!
You know the number of posts and visitors in our section is really down. I'm convinced everyone's bought a new phone. I'm starting to think that'll happen every time we get an Android phone and come on here.
Have to say I do want that new Mini, very cheap in my country.
but there are people who is still using this mini's hope they still provide support for our mini's!
Paul's minipro got burnt and he's not continuing work. We probably feel more sad about it, than he does. :/
I too am very sorry. Since I do not where to call
Paul, if your phone don't get fixed, you will buy another model or you will help us and keep this device updated to at least 6 months?
You can try port ICS to us, they made it work (or are making, I don't know) on Nexus One. I am no dev, but it should be easier knowing this.
If not, thanks for all your hard work with us here.

I will not try to port the ICS
You know, there is a way.
Firstly, in other phone threads on here, it's quite normal to contribute a little donation to a dev. When many people do this, it's a nice thanks. Sometimes they do this to buy the dev a new phone. Also, this could be done to encourage a dev to make ICS for us. Some of us who have donated to devs, receive beta roms long before general release. If this is the last option, we could make a small donation (amounting to a nice amount after many people do it) then we get ICS...
just a few ideas....
But, paul, just one thing, do you think you will buy another x10 mini pro, or other device? Like Xperia ray or Xperia mini pro?
Ps.: slade isn't even online on Windows Live Messenger, so I think he is on vacation or something like that...

You know, that it's just a dream? You can't donate and "pew pew laser magic" we have ICS. It doesn't work, because of our hardware. We already have problems with some apps on Gingerbread because of our CPU, how do you imagine ICS on our phones?
If you really can't live without ICS, buy a new Mini(pro) (not X10 mini (pro)) and wait for the ICS update by Sony Ericsson (they promised something like this, but I'm not sure).

Are you serious?
There's still a difference between Gingerbread and ICS...and there is still a difference between X10 and X10 mini(pro).
X10 has a 1GHz CPU and about 300MB RAM.
X10 mini and mini pro have 600MHz and 128MB RAM.
Even if they could run ICS on our small phones, it will possibly lag like hell or be very blurred.
I remember Owain trying to run Honeycomb on our phone and failing because of the screen resolution. You know, that our phone's screen only has 320x240 pixels?
A year ago nobody thought about Gingerbread on our phones, because there even wasn't a way to flash Froyo. There generally haven't been ROMs that weren't based on the stock one.
Nobody but Sony Ericsson had a doubt that Gingerbread could work on our phones.

Because honeycomb was specificly made for tablets. ICS on the other hand supports multiple resolutions (phone&tablet). So i doubt that will be a big issue.
