It happened on a few occasions and it's really annoying, but most of the time it works. Same firmware.
What annoys me though is Wifi, often it won't connect, until I go to the settings then it connects...

My wifi was alright with original 2.3.3 gingerbread. But after flashing to 4.0.2.A.0.42 it started to crash and reconnect every 10-15 sec. I thought that problem is with my router, tried to reset it, but the same problem.Connected with my Huawei u8650 and it worked fine. So i understood, that problem is with phones wifi. I searched the interned and all xda forum, but find nothing. So i ask for help.
Thanks.
Ensure you clear cache dalvik cache, data and full reset before flashing.
Suggest you wipe all user data, caches, dalvik indeed and then see if it happens again.
If it repeats then SE firmwares do have a history of having wifi problems, especially the 2.3.3 ones of 3.x.x..
Is there an echo on here?
+ Wifi fine on 2.3.4... OP is on .42 so no issue.
Could be wifi scan intervale

Settings-wifi-advanced-wifi sleep-never.

NO - You don't need to do that. WiFi will reconnect and stay connected perfectly well if setting is sleep with screen off. Or bye-bye battery life.
Their problems are more likely due to the way they updated their firmware. i.e. without a FULL reset and clearing data/cache (both caches). Or coming from a custom ROM or kernel. Or sh*te router.

i tried that too, but as i said, it also happens with the screen on, like talking via gTalk and the wifi disconnects and reconnects, when i bought the phone was in 2.3.3 and wifi worked great, even better than the iPod,so, this issue appeared with the .42 (2.3.4) update.
just installed the .62 update, i still have the Wifi Issues =/!
Just updated to .62 firmware, and i'm still having the wifi issue =/
How? Did you clear caches, full reset?

Suggest you do a full factory data reset and then update.
How many Wifi APs have you tried?

From your scenario, it seems that there is a problem with your modem. Not sure what to do though (try turning your modem off for 10 secs and turn it back on)...

My girlfriends XU is acting up ultimately weird..
Since some time we have this problem:
Wi-Fi only works for about 3 minutes when connecting to a wifi signal, yet the wifi signal icon indicates as if it has a good connection. The only way to regain connection again is to reboot, but then the same problem repeats itself, after a few minutes wi-fi is not working anymore. Also in the wifi-indicator the "send" arrow works, the "receive" arrow doesn't.
Basically if you want to discover a new wi-fi connection you need to reboot the phone also, because otherwise the previous connected wi-fi signal remains (it freezes as stated before after about 3 minutes).
Tried a factory reset already.. Didn't work. The phone runs the stock sony android 4.0.4.
Any idea's ?

Alright, sry then, can't help any further...
Does it happen with all routers or only with your router?
Have you tried to repair using SUS?
Someone one the official forum had a similar problem and it was fixed by repairing the phone using SUS.

try to flash another kernel with flashtool or go back to the stock kernel
From my experiences wifi keeps my phone awake and data transfers like crazy. I set wifi to never stay on when my phone sleeps but this hardly ever works. Most times it stays on!
What's up with this? It works sometimes but what do I have to do to make it shut wifi off when I turn the screen off?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Install DataEasyPro if nothing else works.
AFAIK WiFi only turns off if the connection has been idle for a certain amount of time. If your phone keeps transferring data, WiFi won't shut off. Check your running programs and your sync settings for anything, that could be using your network connection.
The stock ELKC WiFi policy works fine. CM and ROMs based on it do not

This might be my only option... thanks.
Anyone else have an issue switching from Wi-Fi to mobile data? When I leave the house and turn off Wi-Fi, the mobile data will light up the indicator and have a good signal, but actual internet use acts like there's no connection. I have to disable mobile data, then enable it again to get anything to work.
This is using the Verizon version, and I also recall this happening on my V20. I had hoped this would've been resolved at some point.
I am having the opposite issue. When I don't have WiFi on and try to turn it on, the blue indicator lights up and then abruptly turns off.
The only way I have found to get around this is to tap on Wi-Fi and while it's lit, restart the phone all together. Then when it powers up, it will connect.
I'm having this problem I have to restart the phone for the internet to work again. I'm on the T-Mobile version

I was restarting as well, but found simply turning mobile data off and on would get it working again. Not a fix, but saves a little time.
