Unlocking microSd card after use in HTC 7 Mozart - 7 Mozart General

Thanks to rotorooter in the Samsung Focus forum for finding that the symbian OS will easily unlock a WP7 formatted microSD card.
Here is my photo article on using a Nokia E71 to reformat and revive a locked down Kingston 32Gb Class4 microSD card.

maximum sd card size?

is there a maximum size for sd cards in xda's... im having problems with my 4gb sd... is this a common problem?
Its the speed that is the key.
Hi, I had similar probs with Magician and 1gb,2gb, 4gb cards.
Seems that certain devices can't handle SD cards with speeds more than 60X. Most high end cards are 150X.
Finally I got this Kingmax 4gb SD40X card from Dabs.com under £50 and it works in my Magician ,Universal and Himalaya. Hope this helps
PS; If you can try your card in another device at least you can check if the card is faulty.I had one faulty card .I also had a faulty device which had backlight probs and had to go back under warranty for repair !!!!

Official answer from Qtek
After i had problems with TomTom:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Had the same error {map not found} thought it was TomTom error so i bought Destinator (excellent software) but the problem was identical.
So bought a new storage card Contacted Qtek about it:
"Thank you for your E-mail. Regarding your query, please note that the SD card standard is limited to 2 GB and our devices are fully compliant to the standard. Cards with the capacity greater than 2 GB are not compliant to the standard and we cannot guarantee that they will function correctly. As to transferring speed, we recommend not using ultra speed SD cards with the speed more than 64x as they either will not work or may pose problems later. Also we would like to inform you that some SD cards need to be formatted using any PC / Laptop (supporting SD cards) before using with our devices.".
So put in a 45x speed 2GB SD card and still the same problems.
Contacted Microsoft and they gave me a hint:

How about XDA II? I heard it is only support 512Mb
Can anyone tried SD card bigger than 512Mb?
i think it depends on the OS
Hi guys
don't quote me on this but i think the supported size by enlarge depends on the version of ppc/wm you are running...form what i read people with wm5 on their himalayas were happily running 4 gig cards (i think someone may have evn been using an 8gig) but 2003 i think only really likes up to 2 gig.
if someone can confirm this it would be appreciated as i'm looking to get a new card for mine...i'm stuck down in 2k3 so i have full backpack functionality but i'm hoping i can get a 4gig working in there
if anyone is using the 2k3 and has a 4gig working all fine and dandy please let me know which rom ver you are using and which card you are using so i at least have some idea what is possible.

Hi, Flakey software from TomTom. I have XDA IIs with 1GB and 4GB SD cards. TomTom v6, Western Europe maps, two voices, GB postcodes and satellite images sneaks into 1GB card.
TomTom wouldn't install to 4GB card, using 1GB SD card and TomTom Home software product I performed a backup. Then restored backup to 4GB card. Yes TomTom and maps work with the 4GB SD card.
However, when attempting TomTom Home back up from 4GB card software message says "No data to backup". Thats what I call flakey software and where are software updates for v6.01?

TomTom Navigator 6 - TomTom - Home software product doesn't like the 4GB SD memory card very much. Then again TomTom navigator 6 doesn't like the 2GB SD micro memory card either oh what fun
2GB cards DO WORK with Xda IIs and XDA II mini
The issue posted on the Microsoft Site isn't really related to the size of the SD card inserted - here's the updated URL by the way: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/277742
I've found that my XDAIIs does support a 2GB card - the main problem that I had was formatting it. The trick is that the card has to be formatted as 2GB (or max capacity) BEFORE inserted into the device, otherwise problems will occur. When I formtted the 2GB SD card in my device, it indicated that the card was a 2GB card, but 1GB of the sectors on the SD card were marked as bad (just run a DOS chkdsk command on the card following such an operation on the PC). To format the card properly, you'll need a SD card reader/writer that copes with cards > 1GB. I've also got a SD card reader in my Fujitsu latop (built in), but it only supports up to 1GB. Most of the latest USB multi-format card readers should work with the large capacity. So, to get it to work:
1) Ensure that you have a SD card reader on the PC that supports >1GB capacity
2) Format the card on the PC in the reader/writer
3) Validate that the format was successful by running the DOS chkdsk command on the SD Card - ensure there are no bad sectors
4) Then insert the SD Card in your PPC
I know for a FACT that a 2GB card works in both an XDA IIs card, and an Xda II mini device, as I've had both working.

To the forum,
Lately I've been having an intermittent problem where Windows Media Player Mobile doesn't "see" the storage card anymore [where the songs are stored]. All other apps on the card run fine. Pocket Mechanic Pro v2.50.199 shows no problem with card. A friend stuck in his storage card & media Player "saw" the card??? I reformatted the SD card using Pocket Mechanic Pro and checked that Media Player could see the card. I have a /My Documents folder on Sd card.
Three weeks later, the same problem is occuring, Media Player can't see the storage card. If I remove the SD Card and reinsert it, a media player dialog box comes saying a SD card was inserted, do you want to search the card for music and video. I say yes and it finds the 45 songs but hangs in trying to build a library of them. It finally returns with no songs and unable to see the SD card.
The SD Card is a 1GB SanDisk micro SD card about 8 months old.
Any thoughts out there?

Another question for the group: Pocket Mechnic Pro (PMP) has the ability to set the FAT and Cluster size when formatting the storage card. Could it be I have the wrong FAT-cluster combination? PMP supports formating a fat of FAT12, FAT16 & FAT32 and cluster sizes from 1 sector, 512B up to 128 sectors, 64K.
Any recommendation on FAT/Cluster combination to use for my SanDisk 1GB micro SD Card?
Thanks Craig
hi all
i haven't use my xda2 for long time, and recent wm6 bring my interest back on.
The stoneage sd card i'm using is 256m, and all in suddent i found a tool which says support the SDHC with XDAII. and can someone have SDHC plz try this tool on the device. The tool is harmless I swear, and only designed for the SDHC, NORMAL SD CARD WILL DISPPEAR from the device after installation as I tried on my 256 card, after uninstallation and it works again.
Please post reply if it works(with your device) and i'm gonna grab a SDHC for my XDAII. Thank you very much in advance!

I have used 4GB, 8GB and 16GB SDHC cards on a couple of S740s now and they work fine.

Hi!
I had a problem today using a micro SD card. I bought a Transcend 4GB Class 6 microsd hc card and the phone didnt recognize it. The HTC support told me that this card is on the compatibility list, but it did not work. Now I bought a Sandisk 1GB microsd card and this one works. any idea to get the Transcend card get working?
Thanks
Chris
hmmm , there is no solution for your problem , you must change your sdhc with another microsd card (from another manufacture) ...
I found out that the 1GB card I use is a class 4 card and the 4GB is a class 6.
Do you think the problem is the class or the manufacturer?
the class have nothing to do with that (if class number is biger - the transfer speed (read/write is better)) maybe not the manufacturer is the problem , maybe that card is not an original Transcend ... is some fake card .... who know ...
I checked the sd card via the genuine test on the Transcend website and its a genuine card. So this cannot be the problem
maybe .... is not compatible , you can try exchange that micro sd with another one from another manufacture , how you see in 1`st post i have somewhat the same problem ... the nokia microsdhc (8gb) card was not reconized , i`ve buy another (Kingstone 8gb microsdhc) and not is working perfectly .
* Note - i have try the microsdhc card before buy it ... so if you can try the card before you buy it
The nokia card is not in the compatibility list for this phone but my transcend card was. Maybe there are some issues with different revisions of the card. So be warned! Dont use Transcend on this phone!

[Q] How do I format my SD card for my US version HD2? Please Help!

I know this is probably an easy question for most of you, but I have searched and searched and cannot find an answer to how to format my memory card for my HD2 in order to prep it for Android. Any help would really be appreciated! Thank you!
Try SD Formatter, in quick format mode. It has worked well here with Android, using SanDisk 16GB and 32GB MircoSDHC cards as well as with Toshiba and TopRam cards.

microSD card locking problem

Hello,
i flashed WP7 on my TG01 (first noksers first rom then mi7rom3) and now i downgraded to WM 6.5. I had a 16gb sd card in it and Zune recognized it normally. I still want to use the sd card with WM 6.5. After downgrading my PC didn't even recognize the card in a card reader.
i also have ad HTC HD2 with WP7 with the same sd card model. when i put it in the card reader it shows me a 199mb partition and i also can format the card with the program sdformatter 3.1.
Does anybody now, why the other card isn't recognized and how i can format it?
you have to format it over a symbian phone from nokia.
is there no other way?
no, im sorry
You can format with psp 2000 and a adapter microsd to memory stick, too.
i'm a little bit afraid to ask a friend to do it with his nokia symbian phone, because of damaging the phone. what do i have to do after inserting the sd card and starting the symbian phone? i havn't ever used this os.

You just need to put the card into phone, better already running. Then the phone says the card is blocked, you ignore that message, go into settings and find card formatting option, format and ready.

[Q] Will the SIII support 64GB MicroSDXC exFAT or not?

During the launch presentation it was mentioned that the Galaxy S3 will support MicroSDXC cards with capacity up to 64GB and an exFAT file structure.
However, the manual released on Samsung's UK website states otherwise...
http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/model/GT-I9300ZKABTU-downloads?isManualDownload=true#
Code:
Your device accepts microSD™ or microSDHC™ memory
cards with maximum capacities of 32 GB (depending on the
memory card manufacturer and type).
Code:
Your device supports only the FAT file structure for
memory cards. If you insert a memory card formatted
with a different file structure, your device will ask you
to reformat the memory card.
The manual is from this month (05/2012), Rev. 01
I asked Samsung, but they weren't able to give me an answer.
So, what's the deal?
Nothing is the deal, MicroSDHC and MicroSD"XC" are compatible using the same controller, the only reason why it wouldn't work is if someone went "If >32GB return IMPOSSIBRU;"
We know the s2 deffo doesn't support 64gb but this guy tested it out and it worked..

Yes, yes it will on both counts.

If you format the card in the phone, what format will it use? Presumably FAT32. If so, will it be better to format in your computer?
The 64GB cards come formatted exFAT, so no need to format a new card at all (otherwise in computer if the card is already used). Just confirmed I will be getting hands-on an S3 today, will by trying out my exFAT formatted 64GB card in it

So, I did indeed have a couple of hours hands-on time with the S3 today, wanted to let everyone know that exFAT support is present and working, and 64GB cards work fine (if anyone still doubts that they work on all Androids with card slots).

Thanks for the reply. I'm starting to think there is something wrong with my card. My SGS3 cannot mount it, then it asks to format it but that gives errors and ends up saying I can now safely remove it.
I have tried to format it on Windows 7, I can select exFat as the file system but it tells me the capacity is only 30.6 MB. Weird.
You might want to check you got what you thought you were buying, google for H2testw. Plenty of no-what-they-seem-to-be cards about.

Question?
Hi guys, i have the 64gb SanDisk sd card... I had formatted it EXFAT using Windows 7. My phone (galaxy s4 gt-i9300) recognizes it, but i dont know what is wrong, cause I cant download files bigger than 4GB... And also my recovery recognizes it. I rooted my phone, but if I check the properties of the sd card on Windows it shows that it is on EXFAT? Should I use a different method to format it?
Thanks in advance
