edit: Posted new apk from cm6.1 for the G2. Works flawlessly now.
Works on iced glacier deodexed rom. Not sure about stock rom, but I dont see why it wouldn't. Just delete the odex file as well when deleting Mms.apk
Found working apk at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=733567
reboot into recovery. Mount /system.
adb shell
rm /system/app/Mms.apk
exit
unmount /system from recovery
reboot.
adb install attached mms.apk (or move to sdcard and install with method of choice.)
is this the same apk found in the link? i think that apk is for Android 2.1... i'm trying to find the cyanogen mms.apk with all of the additional modifications.

You're right. I got it working now. OP updated.
would this method work with the vanilla contacts.apk as well? I absolutely hate the sense version of contacts/dialer and I cannot wait for CM6 to be ported to the MT4G. If i could have the vanilla mms and contacts/dialer the wait would be much more bearable.

What would happen if I were to flash the gapps that Kmobs posted for CM6 over a rooted, s-off, stock ROM? I have a feeling best case nothing would work, worst case I'd get a bunch of force closes if the device were to boot at all. I've got a nandroid backup but I'm still hesitant. Anyone tried it to know what would happen?

You will get the Google apps. And the only way you can get the android marketplace iz if you flash the gapps because it is not on the stock cm6. I flashed it and nothing went wrong and was very happy it installed android market automatically after you set up your Google account

Gotten 3 force closes so far while typing texts to people (within the past 1.5 hour ... :/) and some buttons in settings cause force closes. doh.
Anyone know how to get back the sense mms or whatever? I forgot to make a back up (though I have one from a few weeks ago, I've just done other stuff since then). Doh!
edit: It seems that it force closes for me whenever I send a message, but the message goes through to the other person, so not too big of a deal I suppose.
Hey guys, can anyone post their Mms.apk that is stock from the sense ui? This vanilla Mms.apk is seriously screwed up. I keep getting texts from people saying that I am sending the same text like 10 times when I only sent it once. It force closes whenever I send a text and claims that it never went through. It also force closes when trying to go to settings. I forgot to make a nandroid right before doing this
Can anyone please help me out and post their stock Mms.apk? Or if I just backup my phone with Titanium and then wipe/restore it, would that fix it? I'm not quite sure what the command "rm" did from the instructions. Ah.. this is what I get for playing with fire, doh!
Am I the only one with these issues? Stock rom btw :/
EDIT: Ok I guess you can ignore the above. I uninstalled and reinstalled with the Mms.apk found in this thread (I guess I did the other thread for some reason) and it seems to work OK now. Thanks all for putting up with me!

Provided you have root, the file attached below should work. Use adb to push it;
Code:
adb remount
adb push Mms.apk /system/app
adb reboot
You could also use Astro or Root Expolorer; Put it on your sdcard, load up Astro or Root Explorer, locate the file, edit->cut, find /system/app and edit->paste/place, then reboot.
Do a nandroid backup first in case it doesn't work and remember, you do this at your own risk - I'm not responsible if your phone grows legs and leaves you or explodes.

I do like your rom and flashed it to my phone after a NAND backup and a wipe of my data / dalvik. It didn't work for me though, as I still had the sense dialer and some weird lockscreen that wasn't similar to the ss's you have in your post. Maybe I should try it again.

Tainted Vanilla is no longer being worked on. Try switching to one of Framework's ROMS.
1. CyanogenEris gives you the full AOSP that you may have looking for in TV. A bit buggy for me.
2. Evil Eris v(whatever you want. I'm using 3 but 2.0.1 is also great while 3 is being developed).
I think both have working MMS, but I can confirm that it is with EE v3.
sorry for the total n00b questions but what is AOSP? I keep seeing it everywhere

[MOD][9/14/11][FIXED] GB Touchwiz (Stock/PW) Camera v1.0: Power Button->Shutter Key
[SIZE=+1]EDIT (9/14): I've had the wrong link posted for days, but it's now corrected. Sorry about that! If you had trouble with force closes, please re-download and replace the file. (I had the froyo version posted instead of the gingerbread version, doh!)
[/SIZE]Current Functionality over stock Camera.apk:
Settings menu option to enable/disable GPS tagging for pictures (ported from EH09)
Power Button in Camera mode becomes functionally the same as the touchscreen Shutter Key
[SIZE=+1]GB Touchwiz Camera Mod v1.0 - APK version[/SIZE]
Camera.apk - Download @ MediaFire.com
Installation: Since this is a system app, it cannot be installed using the Package Installer. Camera.apk must replace /system/app/Camera.apk. You can accomplish this many different ways. Two common methods are: 1) use ADB to push it ("adb push Camera.apk /system/app/Camera.apk"); or 2) copy Camera.apk to your SD card, then use a program like Root Explorer to move it to "/system/app/". If you are running a Stock GB rom, you will want to delete any camera.odex files in /system/app/, clear dalvik cache and reboot. For most deodexed roms, a reboot is only necessary if the camera is not working correctly after installation. For more information, feel free to read through the Froyo camera mod thread.
[SIZE=+1]
I have tested this on my phone with PWGB Version 2.0 (Beta 3). Please use at your own risk, and please post any successes, failures, bugs, feature request, etc. Also, please post what ROM you are using.
The more feedback I receive, the more likely I will continue this project with new features, CWM files, updated camera files, etc.[/SIZE]
Also, since I'm currently broke and looking for a job, donations might tempt me into spending more time around here . Let me know if there is anything that needs hackin'!

I'm sure it would be. Of course, they actually have the source code for MIUI, so they wouldn't need to do byte-code hacking in order to accomplish it.

CM 7.1 7/17 I can pull the camera.apk from the rom, just being lazy and hoping there is an easy fix.

Haha, nope, that's the easiest fix.
This camera relies on the touchwiz libraries which are only found on Samsung based roms. It won't work on CM7/MIUI/ASOP roms.
Haha I figured. Me dumbass.
I swore my camera had the button feature, but it was not working lastnight. Guess I will restore the file from my rom.

Actually, that's interesting. Powerwash v1.2 was Froyo based. I never considered that the app might be compatible with Gingerbread and Froyo roms.
I guess I didn't need to open a new thread... hmm. Well, maybe I'll do some rearranging sometime soon.
EDIT (9/14): No wonder it worked, I had the froyo version linked! Whoops!
Im running PWGB v2.0 b3 and i just installed this and everytime i go to take a pic either with power button or on screen the flash just goes off then i get a force close message:

Any ideas?

If your talking about the mms.apk,
I use root explorer to navigate to the system/app folder and find the OE mms.apk and rename it to mms.apk.bak to disable it. The icon will disappear from the home screen start bar and app drawer.
I then place the new mms.apk in system/app folder and make sure its permissions are all checked off.
Then go to my app drawer and see if its there and will run. If it does I drage the icon back onto my home bar.
Some devices are finicky. Some require a reboot after a renaming then move it in there. Some require a reboot after every move. Its according to the apk and the device.

Does this have blurry MMS?
Hello All,
If you are running a sense rom and having problems with google apps, YouTube, Maps etc with the google play service not installing. Well here is a fix for that.
How to Install?
1.) Download update.zip and place on root of SDCard
2.) Reboot into recovery
3.) flash update.zip
4.) Wipe both caches
5.) reboot
6.) update google apps, and install Play services
Hopefully this helps anyone having problems with this. I have tested this on vigor360, but i don't see what it wouldnt work on other sense roms.

Yeah...its just replacing the package.xml file in the /data/system directory. The reason people are having problems is the gms or Google Play Services didn't have permission in that file or more simple put all the gms lines are missing from the file So when you went to install it. It checks the file and because the gms stuff isn't there it denies it or you get that shared id error. All this file does is add the gms lines needed for Google services nothing else is changed or modded.

I was having some problems with google maps, so I flashed this just to see what happens. On reboot I was greeted with a few FCing apps, and several apps that seemingly had their data wiped/reset. Some of my android settings reverted to default but not others.
Nandroid before you flash this zip.

Can you give more information...what ROM are you running, what carrier, are you running any mods or scripts, anything that might give a clue as to why this change might cause your symptoms. I'm interested in reloading some of the older ROMs on a couple spare Rezounds I have (just for the hell of it really) so I'm interested in your experience but I need more information.
Are you sure you had a good download?
Any more information would be a start...

Haha, I read your post before the post above it and wondered what about my post made you so "tired of the bull." I'm on sun_dreams ICS 4.04 Sense4+ ROM. Not the version posted in the forum, but an earlier version from May. Verizon. Sure, I've got a bunch of init.d scripts, but I just looked through all of them...nothing that I think would influence this. Here's my packages.xml: https://www.dropbox.com/s/px2hg2gp4wj6eyz/packages.xml

Haha I see where that would be confusing. I thought the same thing when he posted and I saw tired of the bull..I was like wtf lol. Anywho thanks I'll look into this and see if I can get it working. Would you happen to have a copy of the ROM your running? If not no worries

OK the issue seems to be dirty flashing related. If its a clean install this works perfect. If its a dirty flash it doesnt work as well it does work but seems to have issues. I'm working on fixing that so no matter what it will work. Should be updated tonight

Yup that's what needs to happen. The thing is they need to go in a certain area within the file so I'm doing a little testing to make sure it doesn't screw up. Theres one other thing I'm gonna try is using the permissions folder and creating a separate file and add it to that directory instead of the package.xml

Maybe do a sed replace string alongside a cat of a text file.

So was this updated? I'm having an issue where Google Hangouts force closes after a while and won't stop until I uninstall and reinstall it, so I was thinking about giving this a try. I think Hangouts ran for 6 days this last time before it started forceclosing.
