Looking for some users to test GPS lock times with this.
Requirements: DI01 software and modem.

Make a backup in Clockwork first. This installs with clockwork!

I would love to test this but i don't know what "modem"
Means.

if you are running DI01, you will be fine.

If you don't know what modem is... at this point in time you are probably fine

It still took around 2 mins to latch.

Strange business. Multiple reboots and a battery pull and I am still getting instalock. Just the modifications listed in my sig plus the dj05 gpssetup.apk.

dj05 gpssetup.apk?

Holy $h!T! This is the real deal GPS fix! I can lock 3 sats indoors, in a basement - never locked indoors before with this phone. Furthermore, I can lock 7 sats just walking outside. Gets initial lock in like 10 seconds from a cold start. Did have to shut off my wifi for some reason before it would turn on GPS at all. And, once GPS is turned on, the toggle in the pulldown for GPS stops working, always shows it as being turned on. Have to enable/disable it thru the settings->Location menu.
But that's a small trade off for how well this works!

My baseband is dio1 so i am downloading now.
Sent from my stupidfast Fascinate

Worked for me. Installation was a little scary, got stuck on bootscreen but a battery pull later, it loaded up just fine. Locking onto GPS sats indoors and outdoors very fast. Rebooted a couple of times and it locked on again very well.
GPS icon in the notification bar acts a little weird when trying to turn it off/on, but if you must toggle it, the "Power Control" widget does the trick. I never turn mine off since it doesn't run unless you use an app that utilizes it.
Perfect! Thanks Adrynalyne!!!

Initially looking good! Got a lock fairly quickly indoors. Will restart and test it outside. Thanks!
Edit tested outside after a reboot and lock was instant! This is the best fix by far!
Edit 2: Tested while moving on the road. Lock was slower, but where before GPS Test showed 10 in view and maybe 0-1 in use, the number in use climbed steadily and lock was about 30 seconds

For those of you noting the inability to turn on/off gps through notifications, I believe that is an issue with the latest StupidFast kernel. I run a stock system and my friend runs SuperDark and we both had that issue, after I reverted to an older StupidFast kernel I got my notification GPS control back.

Yup this works! I got a lock within 10 seconds indoors. Thanks for this.

hey guys, I wanna try this out but 1 question-
Is this fix pulled from the DJ05 release, or is it a mod of the DI01? How does it work? thanks

This is great thank you.

Hope this helps.

It is the DJ05 gpssetup.apk, pulled directly from the /system/apps folder.

[MOD][4.1.2011] Fixed (shortened) touchkey backlights (Powerwashed ED05 8.31.2011)

The one thing I've hated about DJ05, DL09, and now our Froyo releases is that the timeouts on the capacitive touchkey backlights have gotten longer and longer. In DI01 it was a couple of seconds, in DJ05 it was the length of your screen timeout, and by EB01 and beyond it's now the length of your screen timeout AND reset every time you touch *anything*.
Well, I've finally gotten around to figuring out where the change was (setScreenOffTimeoutsLocked() in PowerManagerService.smali in services.jar) and modding it back. Now, as in DI01, the keys will only light up for a few seconds after you press one. I haven't reverted the recent change of regular screen touches resetting this time after the touchkeys have gone on, though: since the baseline is very short, this isn't a big issue.
Note that the version of services.jar on which this is based is from Super Clean 2.9.2. However, a diff seems to show that the only difference between adrynalyne's services.jar and the stock EB01 is the inclusion, in the former, of the battery notification/data throttling removal mods. So it *should* work with any deodexed EB01-based framework, though I've only tested on the self-customized SC292 I'm running.
The mod does *not* interfere with BLN.
UPDATE 4/28: I've removed the previous EC01/ED01 versions because they were turning on the lights a bit too often (screen press as well as button press). Instead, here are two fixed Edify-script versions for ED01.
Evil Fascination/stock ED01 folks should use shortlight-evil341, which basically just includes the light fix and the sbrissen mods. Community ROM folks should use shortlight-community12, which has a couple of other options unique to that framework.
The new files include a permissions fix, so just install the zip and reboot. (Those installing the original file -- SC292/EB01 and Amend only -- still need to manually mount /data and /dbdata and run the fix permissions script in CWM 2.5 after installation.) First boot will take a while.
UPDATE 5/17: From version 3.5 forward, Evil Fascination folks should use the community zip as well. Evil341 is still good for stock ROM users.
UPDATE 6/13: New version (shortlight-cROM2) uploaded for Community ROM 2.0. Edify only, like the 4/28 version.
UPDATE 8/31: New version for Powerwashed (ED05). Edify only.
To be honest I like it when the keys are lit up. Especially in the dark and you're trying to hit one of those buttons. But I do agree that they shouldn't be on after you lock the screen....

Do your keys really stay lit up after you lock the screen? What rom are you using these days?
I'm running Adyn's latest superclean (2.92) and jt's ec10 kernel (TW_kernel-0327-2) and haven't seen this issue. I'm wondering if there is a bug somewhere that is causing this issue with other people.
I don't have a problem with their time staying on..I do wish they weren't so bright..
Has anyone noticed that the in-call "buzz" is related to the soft-key lights being on? I haven't used a Touchwiz ROM in a while (including Superclean), but this is something I've noticed running other ROMs.
This fix might help with that.
Awesome!! Thanks, I can't stand the long backlight time. This is perfect!

Yep.
It's funny, a bunch of people like the long lights -- and it's their complaints, I think, that made Samsung edit the behavior in later firmwares. But I'm also sure there are a bunch of people who don't, so now there's a choice.
I also think if the lights were as muted as they are on, say, a Captivate, things might be different.
I tried this out. If I wake up my phone the lights stay off but as soon as I press one they never go off until the phone goes to sleep again.

Yea, the lights help locate the buttons in the dark, but they are so bright that they almost overpower the screen. As handy as they are, I'd rather do without them all together personally. But this is a great compromise.

Don't do that, this is a tiny framework change. (I think I'll add that to the OP.)
Not sure what could be off -- I assume the framework didn't change between 2.9.1 and 2.9.2. You used Red clockwork and not Orange, right? Maybe try reflashing...

I have Red clockwork, the latest from 3/30. I'll try again after my battery finishes charging.
Bizarrely, the lights seem to revert to "always on after touch" mode while the screen is in power-low super dim mode. Not sure if or how I can do anything about this.

Wifi not toggling on?

Anyone else having issues with the wifi toggle button on the notification bar?
It works fine to turn wifi off, but keeps erroring out when I try to turn it on. This regardless of whether I turned it off from the bar or via Tasker widget.
I wonder if this is related to the GPS toggle bug.

FWIW I'm on SC2.9.2 (modded), imnuts -50, and EB01 modem... But I think it's something in the basic Froyo framework. The GPS issue is, I believe, across ROMS.
Fixing permissions seems to have corrected it. I'll update my mod post.
I have the same issue, with the debloated/deodexed froyo and the EC10 kernel (and had it prior to EC10).
Are you saying you never see the problem enabling from in the menus? The log output shows it's failing when it attempts to load the driver, so I wouldn't think it would matter how it was toggled?

[Q] Any flashlight app or torch? CM7

Any cm7 LED torch app?
What have you tried already?
Typically I use the Tesla LED flashlight and that doesn't seem to be working.
I would think that whatever works with the Nexus S should work with the Fascinate though I cannot confirm this.
I've tried
I've tried telsa led on my phone but that doesn't work. I know the led works cuz it works with the camera app as flash. I have tried downloading all the free flash light apps but non seem to work.
I seem to remember someplace in the not so distant past that someone had it built into the CM6 for use. Perhaps that could be done. For now I am not all that worried as JT is making incredible progress with the CM7 build he is working on.
I will poke around a little more myself before I call it one way or the other though.
Ive tried every single flashlight app I could find and none work. Its weird cuz the flashlight apps see the LED but when i turn it on it doesnt turn the LED on. I love the cm7 builds and this is the last thing I would love to have working. Thanks for your help so far tho!
I use devuni.flashlight works great.
norm883
That's the app I used on com rom 2.1. But threw cm7 it doesn't work. Norm883 does it work for you on the latest build of cm7
I just tried it & its a no-good for me on cm7.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Well it is good to know it's not just me or my phone. Hopefully when cm7 gets updated it will work this issue out. It's not a big deal but it is always nice to have a flashlight with you.
At the risk of being Captain Obvious here, if the LED function isn't working at the moment, most flashlight apps can also just turn your screen bright white and that's plenty bright too.
I use and would recommend Tiny Flashlight + LED as, unlike TeslaLED, there's only one version and it's free -- you don't need to buy a donate version just to get basic functionality like the screen light (unless TeslaLED has changed that, anyways).
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.devuni.flashlight
Also, you can get the pure white screen through a function in CM7. If you activate the power control widget there is an option to add a button for enabling the flash light (white screen). This doesn't help you with using the LED but for the time being until this function is added it is a nifty little feature that gives you some light with one push of a button.
Guess I'll stock with the white screen for now. It's still pretty bright but ya just can't best the led. Well thank you all for your help.
I built this from CM source a month ago, its not 100% but it works on TW builds at least. Don't try to use any of the strobe options and I've also had some strange things happen occassionally where the flashlight would turn on when I received a call.

[MOD] Blinking Button Notification for ROM 354, 360, and GS2.4b3

BLINKING BUTTON NOTIFICATION for 354, 360, and GS2.4b3 Dell Streak ROMs
UPDATE (2011/10/20) v0.999
Uploaded blinking button notification patch version 0.999, for ROM 354, 360, and GingerStreak 2.4 beta 3. Drop support for ODEX-ed ROMs as it seems impossible to update with ODEX-ed framework on ROM 354.
Download the correct version for your ROM below:
Update.zip v0.999 for DEODEX-ed ROM 354 and 360
Update.zip v0.999a for GingerStreak 2.4 beta 3
UPDATE: Confirmed working as tested by zero410
Changelog (0.999)
- Fixed screen turned on during LED blinking. Screen will never turn on neither lit when blinking the notification!
- The 3 capacitive buttons cannot be used to stop notification anymore. The phone needs to be unlocked with power button to do so.
- Prevent button LED blinking on proximity sensor activation during phone calls.
PS: The most ideal, elegant, and power-friendly solution for enabling backlight buttons for use on notificaiton LEDs are, still, loadable kernel modules. The patch will never reaches version 1.0, unless it is implemented as kernel module, in the future.
UPDATE (2011/10/16) v0.91
Uploaded blinking button notification patch version 0.91, for GingerStreak 2.4 beta 3.
Changelog (0.91)
- Fixed blinking to disable when USB is connected between 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM.
The feature wasn't working before.
ORIGINAL POST v0.9
What is it?
I would like to have a notification LEDs like the ones found on BBs. Unfortunately, Streak didn't came with any (hardware) notification light. I've tried several notification solutions but still not satisfied. Heck, I'm not even satisfied on how Froyo handles notification LEDs! Hence breaking in the Android framework, and the resulting update.zip
This update will patch your Streak so it will now blinks the button(s) backlights whenever an application puts *any* notification icon on the status bar. That's right, the patch won't care whether notification asks for light or not. It'll just blink it! The update also (of course, priority requirements!) notifies and blinks missed calls.
How to use
0) Always do nandroid backups! You can just restore the system image if anything goes wrong.
1) You'll need to know whether your ROM version 360 is deodexed or not. If you don't, then most often it's the odexed stock ones. Grab the correct update patch in the attachments.
2) My Streak is rooted. But there is no requirements for root privileges on the updates. So I think it should work on non-rooted phone. Hopefully.
3) Clear /data/dalvik-cache contents before flashing. Sometimes it needs clearing, but sometimes it don't
4) Boot into StreakMod and flash the proper Update.zip package.
5) Restart. As usual, on deodexed systems, replacing files will cause some longer boot time as the update is odex-ed during the boot process. Be patience.
6) Lock the screen, let the screen timeout, or whatever.
7) Get notified on any notification icons and missed calls
8) Congrats! You can now busy playing with your (better) other phones and keep Streak laying on the desk without even touching it!
Features
+ Blinking keypad backlight notification for any applications that provides notifications with icon when the screen is turned off.
+ Missed call notifications, too.
+ One-press power button to clear blinks. You can use any of the three capacitive button, also. Cool!
+ Blinking is disabled when ringer is in vibrate mode. Useful when Streak is in your pocket and blinking it would be useless.
+ Automatically disables blinking when charger is plugged in, after 8:00 PM and before 4:00 AM. Useful when you wanted to hibernate, together with your phone, you phone!
It should be able to be re-enabled manually through notification icon, but unfortunately the feature isn't working (yet!)
TODOs and glitches
- LCD blinks before the first blink, and keeps awake -- albeit with zero brightness -- while blinking. Cannot solve without custom kernel (or custom drivers?)
- Tapping the notification for "Button blinking disabled" does not clears the notification nor re-enable blinking.
Somehow I can't capture the Intent sent from NotificationManagerService itself. Oh well, probably will be important for people who works midnight and slept in the afternoon!
- Inconsistent behaviour on clearing missed calls notification and other notification types.
If you did not answer call while LCD screen is on, next lock screen will cause missed calls notifications blinking. The notification on the status bar had to be cleared before locking the screen.
- It is not known how much battery drain does leaving the phone blinking all the time costs!
- Can't imagine doing all over again on this on Galaxy Note. Maybe I'll just skip that!
Happy blinking!

Hi,
Will be trying Fards' and DJ_Steve's latest GingerStreak 2.4 later tonight. There seems to be very positive response on the system stability on the release.
I wouldn't mind having my own Gingerbread build for that kernel including the feature. If so, I would plan to extend with additonal Settings for Gingerbread that gives you more control on the blinks
I am also thinking of another possibility to run Gingerbread on Streak, but will check their latest release to see whether it's stable enough for production uses.
Will check them after trying GingerStreak 2.4
Cheers
UPDATE: Flashed GingerStreak 2.4 and it is indeed very promising. There might be something on the pipeline though, as stated on the wallpaper

Well there are some reasons why I'm not keen to use the StreakLED:
1) I don't like to have a service hanging around wasting my RAM for something that should've (and is, actually) been built into the system.
2) The modification for Blinking Button notification works of framework level and hijacks all notifications. Any app that attempts to show notification on the status bar will be blinked
But I've just re-read StreakLED's entire thread and thinking. Probably it would be good to have a LED that stays lit instead of blinking to get better power saving, after blinking for sometimes, say 1 hours.
The unresolved problem seems to be the way to just "wakeup" the backlight buttons instead of the entire LCD screen. If anyone knows how to wakeup just the backlight buttons, then power problems should be solved. Haven't got luck with writing "power:blablabla:wakeup" on /sys/leds/button-backlight/power/wakeup.
Looking forward to see the beta on GB

Yes I know (I did accidentally during testing it. It seems like a harmless bug in the backlight driver), but it's for keeping the button backlight lit during screen off.
But why would you want led on all the time with screen on? We are going to let backlight stay lit after an hour to preserve lcd power?

It has potential but as of now I went back to streak led. On my device it seems that screen stays on for ever. Also when you make a call the screen would turn on and stay on regardless of proximity sensor because there is a notification in the notification bar while talking. Just letting you know. Note 2 Freezing/Lockup

I have been having an issue with my device recently. I am not sure if it is ROM related or a defective device, but it only seems to happen when auto rotation is enabled. I first noticed the issue last week when I flashed Beans 16 then 17. When the screen would auto rotate, the device would sometimes lock up and I would need to do a battery pull to restart the phone. This was happening over 5 times per day.
The strange part is, I never had this issue before when I was on Beans 14, or its just possible I didn't have auto rotate on, not sure.
I have tried everything - loaded stock firmware back and ran casual again, flashed Beans 14 and set my entire device back from a fresh install.
Again, tonight, screen froze twice and I had to to a battery pull
Does anyone have any idea what's going on? I never has this issue before and it's driving me nuts - having flashbacks of blackberry battery pulls
Clean or dirty flash? This happened to me the other day, froze out of nowhere for no reason

Do you have ripple effect, ink color or any of the TW features enabled while using AOSP Lockscreen?
Because if you do, and your phone times out, your phone will freeze and you will need to do a battery pull.
If you use AOSP lockscreen, you have to disable any of the TW lockscreen features.

Wow, I didnt know the AOSP lockscreen would casue those issues....so turned it all off, and so far so good!! Guess I never had those options selected before.
I have not had a single lockup/freeze yet. I wonder why Beans does not gray those options out when the AOSP lockscreen is selected.
