Remember the old days when your phone used to display the cell tower that you were using on the main screen of your old nokia? is the ability to have that displayed for the HD2 availkable in a cab or something? I have looked but cant find it. Its in other forums but not for the HD2.
Anyone able to create one or have one already made?
I would imagine thats a service your supplier would need to make active for you, its not an option on the Virgin UK network, of that I'm sure, but I had Nokias for over 15 years from an early brick to more recently a 6500c and have never seen that on O2, Orange or Virgin in the UK
maybe (net tested myself) Dynamic Operator Name could help

I am stuck here in Japan and I have a softbank X01ht and I have upgraded it to the DYMOND 3.5 and now I can not get my mms nor my internet to work rigth and yes I have used the settings off of this site but they really do not work well .I also have my wife's x01ht (white one ) which I used that phone image cloning program to copy everything off of it as well as I have copied all of the registry files the hidden files ...basically all of the phone info but I do not know how to crack modify or recreate anything that would help we folks stuck over here in Japan serving our country really be able to use our phone and get help once we have upgraded to ENGLISH and MOBILE 6.We have taken our phones back into softbank but since we can not get past the huge language barrier we are stuck and the tech side of softbank only offers a hard reset as the answer to everything which does not fix anything for us.Hopefully someone can help us (over 30 active duty folks with the same phone and issues)
I sense a business opportunity here... Too bad I am outside of Japan until July 12. Can you wait that long?
If you crated up all 30 phones and shipped them over, I could put together an Englishized version that still supports Softbank data connection and Softbank MMS - on all 30 phones.
I do not think that any if not all of the folks would want to turn over their phones since these are our life lines to the states because we get free wifi on base so we all use skype in so that our family in nthe states can call us and because we do not have to fight for a computer somewhere so that we can email family back home I was just looking for someone who could take all of the info that I copied and make a workable cab file rom or whatever that is for softbank with the right settings because everything that I have compared to from this site and the extended rom on the x01ht are very different and you are missing a few but since I do not know how to do it I am asking for help with it.
Are you gus in the yokosuka area?
Or on Okinawa.
Are you wanting Dymond or Another ROM running? I have used prety much all the different ROM available here with the Softbank settings working on every one. I did get mine about 1 week after release here from Softbank though. Are the phones already sim unlocked? I havent tried MMS in a while but I can try later today to get it to work.
jokinawa
We use dymond and Black 3.0 MMS works but the internet just does not and I just see different cab files when I open up the phone there is one file that is 1.33mb called update_h182 actually its an application but it puts the password settings on the phone I believe because on the nonupdated phone there is something called PP_Generic_Conn_Settings.xml, (yen sign)Windows (yen sign) PP_Generic_UI,Windows_other_conn_settings.xml, andPP_otheruxc. Pre auto run also

This is what makes your x01ht unable to sim-unlock, updates the radio bootloader from 0107 to 0182.
Does anyone know how to do that?
Yes, people know how.
Sent from the XDA App on my FroYoed Sprint Hero...so forgive possible typos
OK now I'm the same distance as before
the function no longer exists in WM7
I have just read that the function must be enabled
has anyone tried?

it seems there is a way to unlock tethering on the samsung phones after dialing some access numbers..
No one has found out the access num for the HTC handsets till now..
hope it would also come out soon
code of Samsung and LG, I also found
I do not understand why Microsoft is such a "reactionary" makes
if you used the old functions in ZUNE
- Outlook sync (contacts etc)
- Tethering
in addition, the Live ID, etc
then it would have been perfect.

There's an issue with carriers I believe. It would strain networks and possibly cause them to charge for the service (the Samsung workaround charges to MODEM usage, not data)
Spot on

I think Lumic is correct. The carriers maybe the ones that don't want this function. Not sure about the straining networks or charging part.. eg: Telstra is all "NextG" so what difference would it make if you hit the network to download email or web browse using your phone or thru your phone. You would still be hitting the same network for data and you have already paid for the data allowance.
I have used it previously on all my Win Phones as it saved me carrying another device.
I'm guessing the carriers want to force you to buy a 3G dongle/plan for data from them. Now that is something we could all understand
Still early days yet and all this may change.
Until then, fingers crossed someone finds the access to the maintenance menues on the Mozart and we can enable it ourselves.
I really cant imagine T$ making people pay for teathering. they want you to be able to bundle everything onto your device. It is a big feature for them to say why have 2 devices. You still pay a premium for their data.
Free Tethering on Telstra?
I have no doubt Mozart can tether. But as Microsoft WP7 is trying to get OS share on smartphones, Microsoft will try and do whatever it can to attract carriers. My old HTC TP2 -running WM6.5 - tethered with no more setup than attaching a usb cable to laptop (vista). This technology is nearly 3 years old. It was in my HTC phone back then. (Even my old Sony Ericcson P900 had it on Symbian)
T$ do want you to buy 2 devices, and charge you for both. When I first got my HTC TP2 , they wanted 2cents/kb as modem. Then you had different sim for modem and phone (and 2 different rates of pay for the same service effectively).
I hope market demand makes T$ want to offer features - especiall ones that are already on the phone. But instead - they lock these features, and put usless apps and self promoting links of no real use. They know that most users would remove this rubbish so the lock them in the menus.
To promote the Mozart, you now can get 1GBdata for $10. (previously 20MB for $10). Wouldn't it be great to tether Mozart and actually USE the 1GB! Nodoubt there are some that like the small screen, lots of video streaming and music downloads to the Mozart. But I'd rather do that on my laptop.
Please Telstra, turn on the modem!
I've been using an x10i on at&t and thinking of changing to an x10a so I can get 3g access. the problem I have is that I've been using the 15$/month unlimited for non smartphones. I know someone with an x10a that had att detect that they used a smartphone, I think it was because it used hspa. I'm wondering, does anyone know how at&t detects non smartphones?
They know what kind of phone you have whether its a dumbphone or smartphone from its IMEI number.
All AT&T phones have their IMEI numbers registered in their database.
Phones that are NOT AT&T phones they are unable to find out what kind of phone it is because the IMEI isn't in their database unless the manufacturer for some reason decides to send them then IMEIs for all their non AT&T devices. Google did this with the first couple of Nexus One runs. That's why some N1s would register on AT&T and some wouldn't. Bastards...........
Find a non AT&T X10a (Does Telus or Rogers have the X10 ?) and you should be golden.
Unless S/E gave AT&T a listing of their IMEIs for non AT&T variants for some odd reason............
I can tell you how to edit the international mobile electronic identification number on your x10.. I can remember the exact path to it since my x10 is dead/bricked/ibrokeithalfafter it happened anyways,I guess pm me if you want it and when my father arrives back from his place of employment I will give you the path to freedom.. all you need is one cmd from the big blue term emul. (echo $value >/path/I/will/provide/asap I believe its illegal but idgaf , when mine showed up0000000000000 I was kinda scared due to the fact I could **** up my phone.. also ATT knows its a smartphone due to the fact that your tunneling through their work using an APN.. they called me actually rofl when I lost my sim.. took over my little bros sim card due to the fact that to get a new one you have to send them the 15 digit number and my sticker got ****ed on the phone.. but they actually left me 2 messages sounded like a sophisticated african american that said Did you know that your smartphone requires a data plan lilbro had no data lmao then sent a text too and then charged me for ****ing two 2GB data plans... lmao their ****ing assholes they could of just chosen the 4GB but anyways yeah ATT has their phones on lockdown.. unless you spend all your time trying to bypass ATTs rules all day and night like me.. I had Hspa before they released the ****.. I was locating towers in africa.. which blew my mind.. I didn't know ATT was over there.. I thought they just ****ed us, U.S. citizens over.. anyways pm me ill tell you a cpl ways to piss ATT off.. e.g. edit the apn setiings with their I.p addresses and use diff ports.. (download a pinger from the market then type in the url for their apn to access their ip addresses.. gd I miss my x10 att discontinued it I think btw)
edit:// btw why the **** would you want 3G instead of the big H... 3G can't even hit 700 kbps in my town which of course a map verifies theres not much 3G coverage in my town.. which is right by STL.... tmobile sounds like a quite accelerated network atm from present customers I've spoken too.. and US cellulars 3G is actually quite fast from what I've seen.. (their just releasing it in the saint louis metro east.. but my buddy can get evdo when he roams......lol?)

I know it's a little late, but I had the same plan you have when I was using the AT&T tilt and then the tilt2. I got the Tilt by upgrading my plan and found out later I had a "smartphone" exclusion on my account (that was when they weren't forcing people to upgrade to a smartphone plan). It basically meant I was allowed to have a smartphone on my account without having to get the smartphone plan. Now, I used that plan for a few years with the unlimited data before buying the Tilt2 and they never did anything. I bought the tilt2 on ebay and they still didn't do anything to my account while I was using that one. They do, however, state in their TOS that if they find you are using an "inappropriate" data plan for your device they can change your plan accordingly if they choose to. They never did on mine though. I didn't get the smartphone plan until I upgraded to the lg expo a while back, and had to get it to get the phone since it was through RadioShack. I was told I could have called and reverted it back, but I didn't get around to it and time ran out.
Like msgnyc said, they detect the phone based on the IMEI number. No sooner than you put your sim in your phone and sign in on the AT&T website, your new device will show up there. It's not like they instantly say "Woah! This person has a smartphone. We have to upgrade the data plan on the account right now!".
If you put your sim in a smartphone, as long as you don't go nuts on the data, you should be good sticking with the plan you have. (BTW l3as3ballel2 is a troll and I wouldn't listen to a thing this person posts)
Wao some of these things sound so illegal, like altering the serial no. (IMEI) of the phone to mimic detecting it like a non smartphone "awe"
Why go to such great extends to get in trouble even with law enforcement, just get an unlocked smartphone. I have a galaxy s2 and I'm hapily on the $15/mo Ulmt data plan but of course I had to lurchase the device at front.

changing your IMEI is very illegal and such talk isn't allowed on XDA.

Hi,
I've got a somewhat strange situation, I'd like to find a solution to. I live just by the border of Belgium and Holland and go over regularly to Holland. My Belgian provider of course goes into roaming mode when on a Dutch network, that's all fine like that.
The problem is, that since I live too close to the border, the phone often stays on the Dutch network instead of switching over to the Belgian - unless I do it manually.
Is there some kind of setting/app to switch to a preferred network when it's present?
My old HTC Touch pro had a network operator priority list, and it worked rather well with that - hope there's a solution for Android too...
Cheers.
Somebody asked exactly the same question a few months back but i doubt a search would find it and i don't know if they got an answer .
Same sort of location as well .
jje
I'd be very interested as well... Let us know if you find something, I'll check it out on my side.
I'm in the same situation, on returning to my home country my phone stays with the neighbouring country operator, and I pay unnecessary roaming charges. Any solution would be an absolute god send for millions of people who live near borders. It's weird, it seems like such an obvious app to produce. Any suggestions would be most helpful. This thread is what made me register on XDA. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000.
An app to display the available cell towers (cid`s) and the option to manually select would be great! Ever since Tmobile/Orange activated a new cell near me I continually connect to that instead of my `normal` Three cell and the bandwidth is crap.

Hey guys,
I have a pretty unique problem and im not sure there even is a solution, but here goes.
The story is that I had been living in Canada for the last 7 months or so and bought myself a shiny new Desire 601 from Virgin Mobile (its a zara_ul). Since then, I have managed to brick it hardcore style, but i was able to ressurect it after 4 months of fruitless attempts through various odd files, sheer dumb luck, and the RUU from mrplowdans google drive (super props by the way, you saved my phone good sir!). I had to SuperCID the phone in order for the RUU to stick.
So it goes without saying that im now running the Telus version of KK (i updated through the usual OTA once i had returned it to stock 4.2.2) on a VM phone. All good, no issues there. Ive since returned home to Australia, unlocked the phone so it works with an Australian carrier, also all good. Im able to make calls and send texts no issue.
My problem is with mobile data. It seems to be having an issue connecting to my carriers 3g/4g. Initially, there was nothing at all, just the bars in the notification bar telling me that i had a good connection to cellular. No little superscript 3G though, and in settings, although mobile data is 'On', it is showing connection failed. Adding a custom APN appeared to work slightly, the 3G appeared in the notification bar and in settings, mobile data was shown to be 'connected', but still no dice when i try to connect to the web or download an app.
Now i vaguely understand the principles involved here, I get that North american carriers use a different radio frequency to, say, Europe, and that differs again to Australia. My question is, is it on the software side? Would it be possible to find an Australian Radio.img for a desire 601 (i dont even know if they sell them here), flash it, and all will be fine and dandy? Or is it the physical antenna inside the phone that is set to receive only a certain frequency? Im not expecting someone to go and find me a working file or anything, i know most of you live in Canada anyway, but im looking for someone with a greater knowledge of these things to find a theoretical fix.
I know I rant a lot, but in the scheme of things im willing to let this problem slide considering i only just un-bricked it a few days ago AND managed to root 4.4.2 (a significant achievement given my non-existent knowledge of android), but it is a nuicance and if theres something simple i can do of course i will.
Thanks in advance for any help <3
EDIT: Ive since done some googling and discovered that they do sell these phones in Australia, and that the Network specs for it and the canadian model that i have are almost identical, many of the frequencies are the same on both. Leads me to assume that its software sided, the telus radio.img is telling the phone to not see non-canadian frequencies.
