[Q] help on this?? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guyss....
This is the first time i am posting in here but I am pretty used to this forum. I got my X10 a couple opf months back here in Dubai (UAE).
so as expected the market was absent.
Waiting for the new os update has simply got better of me and I am willing to flash, root or even f*** this crap to get the best out of it.
First I am looking to Debrand it in order to get the market application. If theres any other way to get the market on this thing let me know.
Second, I have been through a number of posts on different ways to flash/root it. And it has got me all confused. So can someone please direct me to the latest/easiest way to go to and carry out the procedures?
So all I am looking for is getting the market application on my X10 with the updated OS and I promise this would be first and the last SE crap i bought.

4 posts below someone asked for the market app, the link is just there.
You can use z4 root application, than install from the market busybox, root explorer, titanium backup etc etc. in root explorer change permissions to r/w and start changing the things you want.
Or just buy another phone if you still feel this phone is crap. Out of the box you can't do everything with it, but since 2.1 and root I start to love my x10.

yeah it does gives a market link but i doubt it will work on my X10 as it is a middle east version. Market is not supposed to be on the device for the middle east. So I am sure it would not allow it to get installed.
So probably it needs to be debranded first.
Yeah I too am still in pursuit to love this device. But SE are using all means that i should not like it. No Market application, still no 2.1 updates and you want me to praise it. hard luck......

Well, I am from holland and run the nordic version on my phone running 2.1. Without problems. You might consider to change to nordic as well.

[Q] HELP!? ive removed certain google apps with titanium

i removed certain google files with titanium now im unable to start android market and gmail doesnt want to work no more either.. wil it be restored with a factory reset or is there another way for it to be restored? i was hoping to get rid of those horrible google ads ZzZzzz.. pls help me ty greets sjoegeliehoeper
Captain CHAOS...............
don't worry m8 its an easy, but annoying fix, all you gotta do is unroot, restart, delete the root apps, restart, turn off, take out battery, run seus, do the reinstall and you get all the stuff back to normal, after that you can root again, be careful, dont delete/uninstall any google apps, and it will be fine, if you look at the thread on BUG..........PLEASE READ it will explain how i came to this lol, it also give advice on fixing market if you end up with a stuck market (after the seus), there are also thread on what is safe to remove, use these for a rough guide, obviously there will be stuff that you will want to keep,
i uninstalled
user guide
E support
moxier app
playnow app
backup&restore app
chinese keyboard
korean keyboard
android.ime
latin.ime tutorial
voice search
and a few others, but i has to do some thread reading and learn a bit, but all the info you need is on the threads, just do a wee bit of homework after you run SEUS and before rooting and you will do fine
Captain CHAOS...............
don't know if you can remove the ads m8, but its only a small annoyance, just get rid of the stuff you dont need moxier etc, ive spent 3 days doing homework and flashing and messing up and flashing and messing up, just to get to this point, but its worth the time, so DONT REMOVE ANY GOOGLE APPS lol
heres some links for homework reading, easy

these are the google apps i have left..
google mail 1.3
google mail storage 1.6
google talk 1.3
google talk service 1.3
i quote u said be careful, dont delete/uninstall any google apps, and it will be fine.. :'(
Captain CHAOS...............
you will need to do a REINSTALL using the SONY ERICSSON UPDATE SERVICE (SEUS), you can go to c: program files (x86)/sony ericsson/update service/db/13740270 (or the number you got)/blob_fs AND DELETE ALL FILES
Then run seus to get a totally fresh download and update install, after its finished let it boot etc, install root apk and root again, but dont delete ANY google apps,
as i said do some reading from the above listed threads, if you were here it would take me 20 mins but trying to write it will take a while..................good luck, im always here (well mostly, gotta go out sometimes lol)
IM 1.6 is a google app also, and you need this for market to work (the little app icons give an idea to what provider they belong to)
GREEN DROID=ANDROID
RED/BLUE SPEECH BUBBLE=GOOGLE
and some have either GOOGLE/SONY ERICSSON/ANDROID in the title,
hope this helps, just take it slow, if you need keep your computer running with the XDA THREADS SHOWING for reference
you the man homie all i did was this unroot, restart, delete the root apps, restart, turn off, and run the sony pc companion app to update it.. it said i had the latest version already but i chose to recover and so on i did as i was told nd voila a new fresh copy only most of the data like phonebook messages etc were gone but who cares its running smooth again.. il go nd customize to my own again.. i'l leave these google apps alone this time but stil be looking for a way to remove these stupid ads ;p thanks alot.. take care
all you need is the full version of titanium backup.. It had a freeze/defrost option.. its like uninstalling without actually uninstalling lol.. u can do all the trial n errors u want without having to reroot al d time!!
Hope it helps!!

AT&T Bloatware / AT&T Preinstalled Sofware

I've been trying to get rid of all the AT&T and other preinstalled software on my x10 but I have been having no luck. I rooted the phone, installed titanium backup and uninstalled the app from that software but they keep coming back. It seems to be that Titanium Backup is not uninstall them at all. Any suggestions on what I could use to uninstall it?

I went to 2.1 but it is sluggish and slow on my x10. The performance different between 1.6 and 2.1 was huge, 1.6 work very smoothly but 2.1 was way to laggy. I went back to 1.6 and am really happy with it. I might go to 2.1 on the official US release if it includes optimizations. Until then, anyway to take all the AT&T crappy software out?

Did you give the 2.1 update time to settle down, wait about a day?
Using Qudrant, my 1.6 was in the high 400s (give it 500) my 2.1
World is consistantly over 700 (let's say 700) about a 40% increase,
with JIT installed.
I do not know what else, other that a paid app, for Titanium.

It takes some time, an hour is NOT enough. Part depends on the number of photos, as I understand face recognition goes through them.
Main advantages to me were, crisper display, smoother scroll, a lot less lag. Plus I added some apps that needed 2.1.

Hmm, i might build up the courage to try it again. Does 3G actually work for US AT&T because i remember i had a H instead of 3G. I'll have to do a full backup so i can restore back to 1.6 exactly as my info and contacts are, i have a lot of work/school/contact related and not to mention very important textes on this phone.

There is a tool, you will have to search bad memory, there is one bat file "remove apps" there is a list that is easy to modify, asks at each one. Moxier Mail
is there. I tried it and it works. Even has a little blurb on how to fix if there is a r/w access problem.

[Q] New Android Market

untill it starts to be in all the roms, any way to flash this?
i have the apk, tried to do it through App Installer
gonna try adb next
a few people are having problems with getting it to work on cyanogen based roms
I assume, though I could be totally wrong, that there will be no need to flash this or install it. Your market will just show up looking like that someday. In engadget's post about it, they mention "Google's pushing the update to every Android 1.6-and-above device over the next couple of weeks".
im not sure when ill add it ,, looks like some people are haven issues with apps ,, also not sure if i like the fact that if u pay for a app u only have 15 minutes to ask for a refund ,, what if the app works fine , then later on it doesnt work right? i guess u bought a bad app lol i dunno not sure if i like that
As far as I can tell, it's all just a new interface, plus, they changed things like only having 15mins now to get a refund instead of the 24hrs... which is kind of retarded.
The new market is working fine, all apps dloaded with it stick after reboot. If you're using this on a 2.1 rom, delete the Vendor.odex file in system/app if your rom isn't deodex'd already.
if you're on a CM rom, just rename the .apk to Vendor.apk (if it's named something else) and put it in system/app using adb or a file manager.
I attached it already renamed if anyone wants it...
So this is not a pushed update as engadget stated? How are all the other non-rooted android users gonna get it?

I'm not sure exactly, my guess would be through your google account, since it isn't a carrier specific update...
anyone know the answer to this?
I can make a flashable zip for those interested... even though all of you should be able to use adb or a file manager and place it in system/app by now
A flashable zip would be great. How did the market get the new "similar" and "related" tabs? I assumed this update would be pushed the same way. Btw, where are you getting the file to even make a flashable zip? Is it in the Android SDK or something?

Any ideas I installed the new market wiped, cleared data and all I can do is open the market up. As soon as I select an app it force closes on me.

This zip works great for me so far. Though I dont like the new market. The tabs made it easier to flip between things and the rotating apps at the top is slow on a slow phone. It looks like they tried to make it look nicer (and failed in my opinion) but ended up making it less functional.
Google apps always look simple and sophisticated. This Market overhaul looks overdone and tacky with too much "pizzaz".

Yeah, that shocked me. 15 minutes isn't much time to make sure an app works fine for your purposes. For apps that have free/trial versions, then you can check those out first, but what if it's the paid options that don't sufficiently work. I think one or two hours is reasonable, but 15 minutes is ridiculous.
I think ROMs should keep the current version of the market and people can use flashable zips to go to the new version if they want.

[Q] Problems with my AT&T Atrix after downloading the update to 2.3.4

Last night I downloaded the update for my Atrix and while for the most part i enjoy the new looks and such, however now among other things none of my music files will play, which are mp3 files, even ones I had previously downloaded, says this file type isn't supported on the phone, and I cannot get pandora or any streaming music player to work, it loads up like its going to start then says it can't connect to the servers or just stays stuck loading.
I previously had my phone rooted with gingerbreak, so I don't know if that caused any problems, but any help could on how i can fix this because I honestly have no idea what the problem is, because even the new AT&T music player for internet radio doesn't load the music.
Is it possible for me to uninstall the update or do I have to unroot my phone? I'm quite frustrated at this point because I've tried changing settings and tried to download different music players all to no avail.
In my sig there is an app called build.prop editor. Have to be rooted. Open app 1. Click open build.prop
2. Tap build.prop and look for the files that say stagefright.xxx.xxx. change false to true. Save and reboot.
Mot.stagefright.xxx
Or its ro.stagefright.xxx
Change all the ones with the words stagefright to true
I have cm7 now so I don't have those files to tell you the correct full filename

When you open the app does it ask for superuser permission? If it doesn't then you have a root issue.

How to retain/regain root going from 2.2.2 to 2.3.4
When the last OTA update came out I used the before and after update batch files method that I found here - running the before update then just installed it and ran the afterupdate.bat and I was done. I am now rooted with system v4.1.83 Android v2.2.2 and started getting the update messages.
Usually I wait until one of the devs here has a successful tested method and posts instructions / follow them and donate to whoever I was helped by but haven't found anywhere in the threads that describes exactly how to do this. Is there a new method for handling this out yet? Thanks -gs

[Q] Manual GB upgrade?

Unfortunately, I was one of the few that got left behind when VZW pulled the update. I really want to update, even with the VM bug and everything. I came across this guide on how to manually upgrade to GB but I noticed it said it completely wipes my phone. Now I know Backup Assistant saves my contacts, my music is on my SD card so I'm not too worried about that. I'm afraid I might lose app data suchas all the hours and HOURS I put into Angry Birds Rio to get 3 stars on every level. Can anyone help me find a way to fully save all of my app data before I manually upgrade? BTW I've never rooted and I'm on stock Froyo
Do you plan on rooting? If so use the Revolutionary method it works great and there are plenty of How To guides to step you through it. As far as backing up your Angry Birds, Titanium Backup works very well. However, you do need root access for that app to work. The free version will do what your looking for. The pro version adds a couple nice features if you are going to play around with some different ROMs.

My backup pro will work
I'm still fairly new to the root world. I don't know or have not read of any way to back up your apps reliably without root access. Titanium backup, and Mybackup Pro are the 2 most common apps used to make back ups. There might be more? Titanium requires root, where Mybackup claims to have some functionality without root access.
From mybackup pro's website:
Key facts about MyBackup Pro:
Works on non-root phones, as well as root phones.
Root phones have the ability to backup APK+Data and Market Links.
Titanium has a free version that you can use that will back up your apps and all of their data. The Pro version adds a couple nice features that are handy for people that flash roms and like to change stuff around often.
Without root access Mybackup only does:
Application install files (If phone has root access, this includes APK+Data and Market Links)
Contacts
Call log
Browser bookmarks
SMS (text messages)
MMS (attachments in messages)
System Settings
Home screens (including HTC Sense UI)
Alarms
Dictionary
Calendar
Music playlists
Integrated third party applications
Not really what you want. Since you would lose your angry birds data and spend hours trying to gain 3 stars again on the levels! If you flashed the new Ruu.
It boils down to what you are comfortable doing I guess. Rooting is not for everyone. If you do not want to root you are pretty much stuck waiting on vzw and htc to get their OTA fixed and pushed back out.
Rooting is easy with Revolutionary, but you do void your warranty and open the door to being able to delete important system files. Once you root most likely you will find it hard to resist the urge to flash and try out new roms to!

Could you link me to the guide you are referring to?
I think the easiest way is to just root it. Revolutionary method is pretty easy (I hear). I used the old school ADB method (which was nerve racking for me bc I am no Android guru). The Revolutionary method is a little harder to un-root though.
Are you opposed to rooting bc of the warranty issue? After you root than you can back up all your data. I don't know of a way to back up data wo root. Plus with root access you can flash some sweet roms.
If you will link me to the guide I will try to remember to get back to you with some more thoughts

Yeah, I don't really wanna root. I might have to try that out. But when you say:
"Application install files (If phone has root access, this includes APK+Data and Market Links)"
^doesn't the "APK=data" part mean the saves within each app?

Could you link me to the guide you are referring to?
I think the easiest way is to just root it. Revolutionary method is pretty easy (I hear). I used the old school ADB method (which was nerve racking for me bc I am no Android guru). The Revolutionary method is a little harder to un-root though.
Are you opposed to rooting bc of the warranty issue? After you root than you can back up all your data. I don't know of a way to back up data wo root. Plus with root access you can flash some sweet roms.
If you will link me to the guide I will try to remember to get back to you with some more thoughts

Oh yeah. that file will most certainly wipe you out and you'll have to start all over. I still haven't found a solution for backing up wo out root. Sorry.
I'm pretty sure backing up the .apk part isn't a big deal, worst case you can just redownload that. You want the DATA part backed up. The apk is just the file format android uses to install software. Like .exe in windows. (I'm pretty sure at least.)
The post from android police you linked will definitely wipe everything. If you don't make a root accessible back up you will lose all of your app data.
I totally understand the warranty concern. I held out for as long as I could. I received the OTA to GB and was very unimpressed. After hoping for months that the update would be more than what it is, I took the leap into freedom of root and made my phone what I wanted it to be.
Sounds like you should check out some new backgrounds to keep you interested in your current setup.
thepolishguy - Don't worry about it bro. Thanks for trying to help. Left you a thanks
Stratejaket - That's Exactly how I was feeling. If this GB update fix doesn't come soon, I will definitely look into rooting. Lol I was getting bored with this thing lol. Also left you a thanks for trying to help. *runs to zedge for a new background*
