What is the most used ROM for HTC hero 2.1?

TBH couldn't tell you which is the most used or which I use since I use Android 2.1 however if you are looking for a regular Sense ROM I suggest this one. It has tons of options and is smooth and nice (at least it was the last time I tried it). And if you want an Espresso Sense ROM you would want this one. I have never really tried an Espresso ROM but this one looks like it should be good. For differences just visit both links and compare the screen shots, they should be generally the same thing just with different GUI layouts and minor changes but I could be wrong since I never looked into Espresso ROMs.

Cyanogen 6.1 froyo is the most stable and doesn't have any force closures.

You should try a Froyo rom like cm 6.1 or.Villain 1.6. Its faster, better battery life and memory management. There is no downside on these roms.

Floyo 1.1.9 is my favourite so far... have yet to try FV1.6.1 though. Will probably give it a go once the initial teething problems are sorted.
But coming from FV1.5, Floyo is very quick! And much better on battery life. Best thing to do is try them out for yourself

What makes 2.1 so slow?

Hi
I've had my Hero for aboutttt 7 weeks now and i've been tinkering mainly with 1.5 ROMs.
I've settled with MoDaCo 3.2 which is blazingly fast and has some decent features.
Recently i've tried some 2.1 roms, Villain 5.4, BeHero+ and some others. I tried Villain 5.5 yesterday and kept it until today.
I really liked it, the stock look, the incredible amount of features and general improvements to the interface from 1.5.
Now. Every 2.1 ROM i've used has had something in common. They're all incredibly slow. I mean, once the app is running it's generally ok but switching between apps can be incredibly slow.
Closing an app and sliding between the home screens is extremely sluggish and opening messages can take up to 10 secs.
Keyboard input is about as flat as the expression on my face. And once the keys are recognised the phone vibrates as much as a sex toy...
Don't get me wrong, Villain5.5 is probably the best 2.1 ROM out there, it just doesn't seem to perform well.
So what makes 2.1 so slow?
Is it because it's a stock kernel? I see MoDaCo has "Teknologist"?
Is the Hero just too lame?
This has probably been answered more times than you're willing to count. I'm just frustrated to the point at which i stuck my phone in my mouth and proceeded to nibble on the corner.
Try SenseHero 2.2 - it's fast. Really fast, I think even faster than MoDaCo 3.2.
2.1 isn't any slower than 1.5!

I really, really disagree there
When we are talking about responsiveness anyway.
Responsiveness of any 2.1 ROMs are far beyond what I would like, VillainRom is the fastest I've used but still not what I'd like for my main phone. Esp vs ROMs like the Kimera 1.8... which is the fastest 1.5 ROM I've ever used (and now sticking to)
TBH I'm not surprised, with no official GSM Hero release, there's no fine-tuned drivers for it etc. Ports can get it running on a GSM Hero but in no way are those builds really built to be used on the phone, they're just modified by XDA Devs. I think thats what makes the wait for the 2.1 from HTC even greater because that should hopefully be the 2.1 we could all finally move to.
(...once XDA roots and tweaks it of course )
to check how fast it is, linpack is better or the benchmark - softweg one?
Running SenseHero2.2 now and have done for a couple days.
Feels very responsive and works very well
SlideVillain 1.1.0 is actually really pretty fast, and I currently use that as my everyday ROM. I used to be a devout taskiller user, but I have now uninstalled Taskiller as you just don't need one on SlideVillain.
Also, the new SuperHero ROM from Villain is unbelievably fast. It is a semi-vanilla ROM, although only available to donators for the moment in a closed Beta (there are still little bugs needing ironed out).
Not all 2.1 ROMs are slow though. The SuperHero ROM is actually as fast as the Desire in use. See http://www.villainrom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=507 for some info about it.

[Q] Alternative to FroydVilllain 1.7.2

I currently have FroydVillain 1.7.2 rom on my phone.
I want to try something else because I had some problems with it.
Sometimes the phone is laggy, the messages load time is really slow, sometimes I don't get call and can't make them( ex: someone call me and it does the same thing as if my phone was closed), youtube problems and many other things.
Still there is some things I like about it, the quality of the camera(not really the interface), the easy user interface ( don't really like that half circle in other version), and other things.
So for a guy like me, who dosen't use his phone to play with it or you know, mess with the cpu (and other things like that) what other rom would you advise me.
(I would still like to have something with Android version 2.2.1 or newer, don't know the difference between each but I don't want to have less options or I don't know what)
Thanks.
+ The battery die fast.
In my opinion floyo 1.2 is the best 2.2 rom. no matter what i flash i always end up coming back to it.
I'm using Elelinux's latest Hero ROM, which is very smooth and stable so far. Also, since it's based on CM7 (Android 2.3), you can theme the hell out of it if you like.
Compared to the FroydVillains I've used in the past it maybe isn't quite as fast, but the difference is minimal. Although if you really need some speed, this 2.2-based rom is probably the way to go.
Try some of the latest Gingerbread ROMs. Very smooth and good battery life. If you absolutely must have Froyo, you're not going to find much that improves on what you've already got.
Sent from my Hero using XDA Premium App
Cronos is another good Gingerbread ROM as well.
my choice:
2.1 : Sense rom for sure, elelinux's repack is good
2.2 : floyo 1.2, really great!
2.3 : elelinux's one, but with andriod 2.3.2 or before
going to try out the new android 2.3 with sense! hope i will stick on it after
you could try out the wildfire port of gingerbread with sense 2.1. its really cool and quite smooth!
Nothing better than nightly CyanogenMod 7.1! No more invisible menus and it is fast loading ^^

[Q] Best for Eris - Froyo or Gingerbread?

I need to root and then update my wife's Eris to try to make it run a little bit better. I already use CM7 on my Incredible, but I know the Incredible is a much faster and more powerful phone than the Eris.
So I wanted to ask: Of the rooted ROMS here, which runs better on the Eris - Froyo or Gingerbread? (Better being faster and/or more stable)? Based on that, which ROM would y'all recommend for her phone? Again, I am looking for something that is stable, at least as fast as the old 2.1 version she is using (if possible), and allows her to run newer software without issues.
Any help appreciated. I want to get her on an updated ROM ASAP. Thanks!
/Tom
Gingerbread ROMS have always ran a lot better on my phone than froyo. They just seem to be much more smooth and snappier. Shed's GSB 3.5 is probably about as stable a ROM as your gonna find. The only issue is the camera only has 2x zoom and not the full 9x it is capable of. I think that is a CM issue but I'm not sure.

Wrong forum, but...
There is no one answer to your question, the Eris is too quirky.... not all run the same ROM the same way. So, play around, there are many good ROMs here; the devs and community are great!

I first had XtrSense (Eclair) , then GSB (gingerbread) now i'm using TheRom (froyo). Its pretty snappy compared to the others and I haven't had any issue yet
I have to agree with ianoob, roms run better on some phones than others. If she likes using sense then I recommend gin-sen-tazz. It's a great ROM and running stable on my old refurb Eris.

I'm on condemned cm7 and its great and has the 9x zoom on the camera. It's fast, stable. I personally would try both froyo and gingerbread and see what your wife likes better.

Like others said, you have to figure out what works best for you. I haven't had any good luck with any of the GB roms, but instead I've been using CELB Froyo or the XTR roms (2.1)
my two cents: i have my brother-in-law's old eris (he "upgraded" to an incredible). i've had it for 2 weeks and am running Workshed's GSB 3.5. If he could, my brother-in-law would trade me phones in a heartbeat. it's a trade i wouldn't make.
my wife has my mom's old eris. she hated it (running stock 2.1). i put GSB 3.5 on it yesterday and now she's raving over it. makes her think about not getting an iphone with her next upgrade (and she's a mac person to start with).
no experience with froyo, but i can't say enough about Workshed's work. it's phenomenal
No experience with Froyo, but GSB 3.5 runs well on my Eris. I also heard Froyo doesn't run the best on Eris.

I really have had great luck with GinTazz and FroyoTazz. Also think xtrSense is awesome if u want more stock minus the bloat and its superfast too... I really love GinSenseTazz too just wwaiting for bt fix in stable build.
Sent from my Suckiest Rom Ever using XDA App
Any of the AOSP roms ran FAR better than a Froyo ever did on mine. Better batter life, faster, etc.
Gingerbread
Ive tested almost all the roms available for eris and I think the gingerbread based roms run a lot faster and smoother than the froyo based roms. My favorite is gin-sen-tazz.
The first custom rom I flashed was KaosFroyo v39. Compared with the stock system, this was a major improvement. Very snappy & responsive, without all the bloatware. After a while though, Kaos stopped updating the rom. I'm not sure why, but things seemed to slow down after a while - the noticeable increase in performance I received from KaosFroyo seemed to decline. Still, an overall solid Froyo rom.
A few weeks back, I loaded GSB v3.5 (Gingerbread) & have been very impressed. Upgraded to v3.6 & haven't looked back since. That rom, combined with Cache2Cache & the v6 Supercharger have made this phone perform better than it ever has for me. I'm holding off on the v3.7 update for now just to see if there's any major bugs/flaws, but I don't expect any - workshed has done a great job!
As others have mentioned, each phone seems to perform differently, but this setup has been tits for me. Thanks to all the developers!!
ginger bread
Gingerbread - Macrom is running the best on mine. I also believe that phones seem to "like" some ROMs more than others, but the Gingerbread ROMs that are out are all great.
I'm like most, I prefer the AOSP gingerbread roms. I would probably try Condemned, MacrRoms, and GSB. I don't like the Sense Roms, but that's just me. GinTazz with sense and gingerbread ran very well, but my preference is LauncherPro.
GSB (GingerShedBread) v3.7 - CM-7.1.0 RC1. Been running this on my mothers phone months and it came back from the dead. Quick, good battery life, and stable. I also ran this on my OG droid and im now running CM7 on my thunderbolt. Try a few different ROMs and see what works best for the user and the phone. good luck
Rick
I had camera issues with GinSenTazz, like it was tracing around the edges of objects. Not that it's Tazz's fault, its just when you throw Sense into the mix, it adds a whole new layer of possible problems you have to resolve.
I like Gin-Sen-Tazz a lot. It's stable, but has a few kinks that are still getting worked out. GSB is my fave though. That has been my main rom since feb. You can't ask for a better rom.

Recommend ultra stable rom please

A work colleague has come to me and asked about the "low memory" warning she keeps getting on her Hero. She is annoyed at having to delete apps all the time.
I'm thinking I want to root it for her, so she can have A2SD, but she is not at all technically inclined.
I need an ultra stable rom that I can flash and forget, I don't want her coming back to me about it.
Also the phone is a laggy POS on the standard 2.1 rom - any speed and battery life improvements would be welcomed!
Personally I would want an AOSP rom, but she used to Sense :-/
Recommendations, please?
Sent from my 'Zed, overclocked to 1.2ghz
VR 13 - overclock to maybe 600MHz for extra speed without sacrificing much battery life.
For the sense roms, it's best to stick with the android 2.1 roms like VR or Elelinux 2.1.
The AOSP 2.2 roms are also stable and both speedmachine, Floyo (1.2) or Froydvillain are really stable.
Sense rom-2.1update1 reloaded by elelinux
AOSP-elelinux 2.3.4 v2.XX
As long as she's a Sense lover you would like to take a look at this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090186
Gingerbread-Sense ported from Salsa to hero, being updated under serious work and becoming more stable everytime.
In case she gets convinced about the AOSP:
Erasmux Floyo: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=784689
Elelinux Gingerbread 2.3.4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932377
Elelinux Froyo 2.2.1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=767886
- All are really stable and ready for daily use, non sluggish nor laggy, read along to make your best choice, changelogs makes it all clear .
And if sticking to 2.1 with Sense is no problem, here's your deal with App2SD:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003381
A lot of people suggest Cronos ROMs, but i really never gave that a shot, but i say you also look into that!
most of Elelinux's rom is the best. try it.

[Q] Best Thunderbolt Rom

Now I know this is largely an opinion based question but figured I'd get some good feedback. I am a former incredible owner and with the incredible I had MANY choices of ROMs that were all fast, great battery improvements and completely stable. I was a huge fan of CM7 on the incredible. I finally just rooted my Thunderbolt and am looking for the same. I just want a ROM that is stable, decent speed and with better battery life. So far I flashed a sense 3.5 ROM (InfectedROM) and it is has many bugs, little bit better battery and actually feels slower than stock. CM7 says it is still in beta so I have been reluctant to try it. Does anybody have any advice on the most solid ROM out there for the Thunderbolt? Thank you

Any BAMF ROM. They are almost completely bug free, smooth, and offer better battery life over stock. CM7, even though it's not officially supported yet, doesn't have too many bugs. The battery life, in my opinion, just doesn't match up to Sense ROMs.
One piece of advice I'll give you for better battery life. Don't overclock. It just isn't necessary. The phone is fast enough at 1GHz, and you won't see too much of a change overclocking, just worse battery life. (Benchmark scores are meaningless. They do not reflect every day performance)
What kind of mAh drain do you experience on bamf roms? I stay between 15-25 on CM7 with the screen off and peak between 150-350 with screen on. BT is always on, as well as GPS. (Never use wifi, so can't speak on that) Oh, and I just Juice defender, before JD I would average 35-40. Sync mail with imap every 15 and exchange on push. Underclocked with screen off to 360 and run 1024 with screen on. I don't OC unless I'm plugged in. Then its only 1209.
I'll also cast a vot for Team BAMF. I am on BAMF forever 1.10 and I flashed the devs beta 3++ kernel build after because I saw a bit of lag with the stock kernel. You absolutely need to remember to wipe before flashing the rom, though. I neglected to and the lockscreen didn't even work.

I never dropped below 30% battery using bamf in months, I'm a huge fan. It took a lot for me to drain it down low.

I vote BAMF SoaB. But I'm biased.

Never had any problems with CM7 via protekk's builds. Run fast and smooth, and get great battery life. Plus it's clean so I don't have to worry about washing my hands after using it
Skyraider 1.3. Gives the best balance of htc sense functionality, battery life, customizations, and speed. I would stay away from sense 3.0 and 3.5 roms. They initially seem smooth; however in everyday use they will lag on you. The phone is just not designed for 3.0/3.5 sense. The 2.1/3.0 hybrid roms work well which is what the skyraider 1.3 rom is. If you don't like sense, then run CM 7.1.1 or Liquid Smooth 3.2. The non-sense roms will be a little faster, but I like the widgets that come with sense.
Update: Forgot MIUI rom. Very nice if you like the apple-esk look and feel. Very smooth.
BAMF forever 1.1
How do i find the BAMF forever 1.1 rom. When I use ROM mamanger I only see 1.0.5
Another vote for SkyRaider Zeus 1.3.
Near perfect for me.
Miui tons of customization very good batt life and very smooth
Sent from my HTC Mecha using XDA App
BAMF roms are probably the most stable roms and I tried most of them already I even bricked my phone a couple of times trying all the roms and so far I'm sticking with this ROM called thunder stick 3d
I've tried Bamf Forever, SkyRaider, SoaB, MIUI and Gingeritis 3D.
My vote out of all 3 is Gingeritis! Battery life has been a ton better than the Bamf roms and MIUI I only liked on my Droid X. Wasn't a fan on my T'Bolt.
Liquid Gingerbread 3.2
Liquid's AOSP 3.2 is by far the best rom I've used, it's based on CM7, which is technically still a beta, but I think that's just because the official support on the CM website is slated for CM9, I have no issues with Liquid 3.2 and I tend to be picky about dealing with bugs, and battery life is good the way it comes, better than Sense based roms, and you can configure the kernel for batterysaver which makes it even better.
[ROM-STOCK-605.9] iKReaM.What.Thee.ROM.605.9-R3Ds this rom is legit but if someone could tell me what that clock is and how get it i would greatly appreciate it
I used CM7.1 most of the time but switch to a BAMF Sense 3.0 ROM on Thursday nights (and sometimes Sunday and Monday night) to watch NFL Mobile. They are both nice, but Sense 3.0 has some stupid issues, like lack of landscape mode, lower volume by default, dodgy Bluetooth support, etc, it's enough to make you want to get rid of it.
I have th3oryrom - ics
I vote for th3ory, i like that it is non htc sense. And this one is a ics look/feel rom. This is a link to dhacker29's rom (http://th3oryrom.com/ROMS/SHIFTAO5P_IC3.2.1.zip );and although it is 2.3.7 android it still seems like you're using ics. the only bug i have found is flash keeps crapping out. there's a thread i found (non t-bolt related) that i found where going to adjust (remove all) permissions fixes this but which folder i do not remember.
You won't get many votes for this b/c the developer isn't going to update it (at least i don't think) b/c they have moved on to another phone.
EDIT: i did a search for you if you're inclined to dnld this rom. in the Q&A bolt forum there is one i located that path on your phone you may need to find using root explorer to run flash. "/data/data/com.android.browser/app_plugins/com.adobe.flashplayer/.macromedia/Flash_Player/config.data" after this path go to permissions on this file and deselect all check marks.
Google Music
it is an awesome rom but since CLEAN flashing this rom, ive had issues streaming my music from google, it sucks, i read other people having this problem as well so i tried the various fixes i found and to no avail, its a deal breaker for me cuz i wanna listen to the music i paid for. im gonna try SHIFT AO5P n see if it produces some positive results, if not, im going back to INFECTEDROM. I WANT MY GOOGLE MUSICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC!!!
