"I've figured out how to get Opera Mobile 10 Beta 3 to only display websites in desktop view without getting redirected to a mobile version of the site. UPDATE: Works in Opera 10 Final too!
The first 2 steps are pretty common knowledge, but they don't work for all sites. It's the 3rd step that makes every website work for me.
Step 1: Set a custom user agent string
This tells websites what kind of device you are using to browse the site (desktop computer, smartphone, etc).
Goto opera:config -> User Prefs -> Custom User-Agent
Find a desktop user agent string, type it in, and save. I'm using the one from my Firefox browser on my home desktop (it can be found by clicking Help -> About Mozilla Firefox). Mine looks like this:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)
You can use whatever string you can find that works. I've even seen people use an iPhone user agent to get iPhone versions of websites.
Step 2: Spoof a user agent ID
This tells websites what client you are using.
Goto opera:config -> User Agent -> Spoof User Agent ID
Type in the number corresponding to a browser to identify as that browser
Global values:
1 = Opera
2 = Mozilla
3 = Internet Explorer
Site-specific values:
4 = Mozilla, Opera not mentioned
5 = Internet Explorer, Opera not mentioned
Don't forget to save. I have mine set to 2, so websites think I'm using Firefox
Step 3: Set custom HTTP_Accept parameters
This one is hard to explain, but it basically tells the website which versions (i.e. desktop or mobile) are acceptable for viewing.
Goto opera:config -> Network -> HTTP Accept
Type this in exactly:
text/html, application/xml;q=0.9, application/xhtml+xml, application/x-obml2d, multipart/mixed, image/png, image/jpeg, image/gif, image/x-xbitmap, */*;q=0.1
Please note that this is just the default entry minus the one element that allows for mobile/wap viewing.
Also in the Network section, go to HostName Expansion Prefix and delete wap from the list. Remember to save. Exit the browser and everything should work like a desktop from now on! You can go to www.whatsmyuseragent.com to check and see if everything is right. If you still want to view mobile versions of sites, you'll have to type in the specific mobile URL for that site (I keep mobile versions of my bookmarks just in case I get stuck on EDGE or a slow connection).
Hope this helps! If anyone with web-coding experience would like to explain further or correct anything I did wrong, please be my guest!"
by Eman3000; thx!
It's really useful and it does work everywhere.
However it takes ages to do it everytime.. can anyone make this process a lot faster? like write a .cab and/or a .reg?
Thanks
Loved it!
Been looking for alternative browser for this sole reason. Nice and easy workaround (with proper credits given and a link to the source... you rock). Thanks for the share.
The opera repo thread is riddled with so much "spam" posts that I'm sure I'd have never found it. Definitely the most useful hack I read in quite a while.
EDIT: I used this in Opera 9.5. Did some digging and this info seems to be stored in opera.ini (stored in Application Data in Opera's folder... don't know if this is a constant over versions) which somewhat makes the cab method unfeasable (considering that it would affect all of the other user settings...). Also compared complete registry dumps and nothing was changed so the reg method is out. Would be however possible to Mortscript this (may need to be adapted according to Opera version which could be a pain).
EDIT2: Searched xda and found this. Took a peek with MSCEInf and found these cabs just change a few lines in the registry (no files). No for my version but may interest you.

the setting are stored in "opera.ini" you said..
how about a banal copy-paste from the old ROM to the new one of this file?
I also use opera 9.7, latest build. Are the setting still stored in the opera.ini file?
EDIT: Someone says yes.. someone no.. mhmhm... Anyone has a proven answer pls?
What's Mortscript?

In the process I wrote in the first post there's other tricks not related to the UA setting. Also I don't speak french

Hi!
i bought an S740 today ^^
i have some questions tho
how do i turn of when i sent an sms, i get this: "masage sent"
witch webbrowser should i use? IE are slow and i cant goto wikipedia, it just sends me back to homescreen ect..
and what is ROM? is it program or the "Firmwire"?
and last:
how do i get into regedit?
sorry for my bad english, but i hope you understand ^^
Hi.
First of all congretulations with you're phone.
Here are the solutions for some of you're questions.
1 SMS = I Don't no sorry for that.
2 Webbrowser - I'm using skyfire it's wokring nice and fast.
3. Rom -Is the software using you're phone. You're phone run on Windows Mobile 6.1 and using a rom to to everything with the phone. Some people mod the rom so it's look nicer.
4. Reg editor -- Google some programs but Mobile Registery Editor is working fine over here..
Goog luck
Web browser: I recommend Opera Mini, or Opera Mobile if you can spring for it. Mini's free, it's a java applet that uses Opera's web servers to optimise web pages for display on your phone, and is the closest thing to a full web browser. Plus, it's snappy and doesn't suck as much b/w as IE. One caveat, though, it's all through proxy, so be aware that whatever you send using it can be seen by Opera. Small price to pay, I think, for very fast web browsing, and I default to IE if I need to do anything important or personal. Opera Mobile's the paid version that offers more functionality including tabbed browsing and such...never used it so I can't say.
There's also skyfire beta (same concept as Opera Mini, having a remote server do all the website-compression) but when I tried installing it on my phone, it refused to connect to the server and would get stuck on an infinite loop of connection attempts. Worse, it would hang upon uninstall, which I remedied only through a hard reset. Not fun.
I know Mozilla's working on an alpha of Firefox (aka fennec/mobile firefox) which you may want to try. It all depends on how adventurous you feel, I suppose.

I don't know how to turn it off, however I'm happy with the function.
I've had a few times that a SMS failed to send. Only because I got a warning in stead of confirmation made me aware of this.

Have you try this:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/...he-sms-text-message-sent-notification-bubble/
To change registry, you need to:
1. Have a Registry Editor (Use PHM RegEdit, it's free)
2. Your phone must be software unlocked. If not, you can't change the registries.
I'm a fan of the Iris Browser from Torch Mobile. Seriously, it's a much better browser. But I've always hated that TF3D can't be configured to use it. Well now it can be.
Opera Redirect replaces OperaL.exe and allows you to configure which browser to launch when TF3D needs to connect to the net. You configure it through a simple to use control panel applet and can switch at any time.
IMPORTANT make sure you backup the file "OperaL.exe" from your \Windows directory before installing OperaRedirect. This file will be replaced upon installation of the cab and can't be restored. You have been warned.
Known Bugs:
Once install, Opera no longer functions!
No proper uninstall
Alternate Browsers MUST be install in their default paths and in main memory
Sometimes upon install, the applet doesn't show in the settings | system menu until after a reboot.
ToDo:
Copy OperaL.exe during installation and fixup the shortcut so Opera can remain functional
Add support for manually editing the browser to launch
Let me repeat: IMPORTANT make sure you backup the file "OperaL.exe" from your \Windows directory before installing OperaRedirect. This file will be replaced upon installation of the cab and can't be restored. You have been warned.

No idea. It should if Manila 2D launches the same exe for Opera.
Thank you. Works just as described. Now I get Skyfire to launch with tf3d.
we're on the same boat.. i just converted from Opera to Iris fan few minutes ago after experiencing Iris v1.1.7 just now... i saw your post in Iris blog and i'm downloading your cab.. i hope it works fine on my HTC Touch Pro WM6.5 Shep's ROM
Nice work bro
works great!
posting with it now
Sadly, Opera Redirect does not work with a Topaz / Touch Diamond 2. I would really like to open Iris browser with the TouchFlo Internet tab. Opera redirect's setup only sees Internet explorer, not Iris.....
Did you install Iris in to the default location?
Hi Joe; It seems a mod has removed all of my messages instead of the last one only First I would like to thank You for developing Opera Redirect. I hope I can ask You some things about it:
I managed to get Iris going. I can invoke Iris from the TouchFlo Internet tab. In my Dutch ROM, the default install path is "Programmabestanden\Iris Browser". So moved the Iris Browser folder to "Program Files" instead of "Programmabestanden". Opera Redirect could now see Iris and set it as default. The only thing is that if I start Iris from the Internet tab by tapping the globe, it opens with an address line in the top of the window that shows "about:blank", with a little button "Go" in the left top corner. Rest of the screen is grey and left... blank. If I fill in something in the search bar above the globe, and tap the spyglass, Iris starts and performs a scan with Google, which I set as home page, and directly displays the search results. I really would love to see that when I tap the globe, Iris starts and displays my home page instead of the about:blank page. Are You familiar with this? Also when I soft reset my device, Iris starts automatically since I set up Opera Redirect & Iris.
Hope You can point me in the right direction,
regards,
André
if anyone manages to download it from rapidshare, could they post as an attachment, it's only 16KB, then you don't have to screw with:
"This file can only be downloaded by becoming a Premium member. There are no more download slots available for free users right now."
I HATE RAPIDSHARE
EDIT:
attached the original cab off of rapidshare, enjoy!
I love this program, I installed in on my Touch hd, needed to update .net framework but then it worked fine, but it doesn't seem to have support for Opera 10 Beta, It would be nice that this could be possible because it is so much better than the old opera.
Any help from someone?
I took came here to make opera 10 my TF3D defaut (that opera 10 is AMAZING, not thing like all the others, untill Fennec comes out)
1) Cannot select opera 10
2) I have to click twice for IE to launch, to be more precise, it launches One in Two. Weird
Otherwise, great great app
Ok I found a way to get opera 10 Working!
Just install rename the Opera 10 folder in Program Files Skyfire and rename the Opera10-armv4i.exe to Skyfire.exe
Still when I select the Earth icon in tf3d, it opens Opera 10 one out of two times...i really have to figure that one out :/
EDIT: I take that back, it doesnt do the one one two thingy with opera 10. Perfect, that whole opera 9 forced on me really bothered me.

@Joe
Great Work Man!
I would ask for one very small change that I would gladly make a donation for, and that I believe would address a fairly large niche that it otherwise lost;
people using cooked roms on X1 like 'Touch-it Xperience'.
Your program is the only thing among a sea of suggested regedits that can redirect my browser, nothing else works.
The small change I humbly request is for the program to recognize Opera 10 in it's default storage card path:
"\Storage Card\Program Files\Opera Mobile\Opera10-armv4i.exe"
Please !
Opera's latest beta of Mini is now in WM native code, so doesn't need java. It's really very fast.
Details at http://m.opera.com/next
Anyhow, I always used the java version of OM, and had a mortscript to make it the default browser for email links etc... so I've butchered the mortscript to work with the new non-java version of Opera Mini.
Some things to note...
The way it works, I couln't use mortscript to sebt ctrl-v to paste the url, so I used mouse control to bring up the context menu to paste. Therefore, it relies on the address box to be in a consistent place, so only works on QVGA devices like my Mega (Touch2) - for non-QVGA devices, someone will need to change the coordinates on the mouse commands in the mortscript.
It works on a new instance of OM fine, in standard mode and full screen. It works onto an existing instance of OM if not running fullscreen... the fullscreen mode seems to work strangely if you've scrolled down the page - I send a 'home' keypress' which in normal mode returns to the top of the page, but doesn't always in fullscreen mode.
So here's how my changes to the originl java om script work...
I run or switch to "\program files\opera mini5\OM5.exe" so make a copy of the current of executable called that - the executables seem to be named as the current release version.
Once OM is running, I send a 'home' keypress to get to teh top of the page. Then I send a mouseclick near the top to try to get in the address box, then I send one slightly lower down. This allows for both full screen and standard displays. If you're on a non-QVGA device, these will need adjusting.
Once I'm in the address box, I send four backspaces to clear the "www.", then I send a hold mouse command to bring up the context menu, and then a mouse click to select paste - again, non-QVGA is going to be trial and error...
I tried sending "#1" to get to enter URL, but it didn't work, neither did ctrl-V to paste!
I haven't modified the original installer, so you'll need to install the cab and then overwrite the mscr in \Windows with the butchered version.
This is just a quick and dirty workaround. Hopefully someone out there will be inspired to do a better/neater version, or at least create a neat installer!
can you learn me how to convert the Jar to cab?
thanx
Interesting. So what is the difference between Mini 5 and Mobile 10 now?
Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 for WM
"While Opera Mini traditionally requires Java, the new Windows Mobile version does not, which means the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) on the Windows Mobile device is no longer needed to run Opera Mini. "
*above*
hehe tell him what he really wants to hear...
ok i will...Mini is fast a f**k compared to opera 10..
only differene i have seen is the way you scroll though pages not as smooth at 10..
Indeed, I personally find Opera Mini 5 far better than Opera Mobile 10.
It's faster, more convenient, use less data, etc... And mainly it's faster, faster, faster
Opera 10 is definitely too slow compared to Opera Mini. I'm not patient enough.
The only thing Opera Mini is missing is Flash...
are you guys having slow scrolling when browsing pages too?
like if you compare the smoothness to 10 vs mini...
OK, first, this release is a crap. It's far worse than the java version. Some bugs till now: you can't login to certain pages, it doesn't work corectly with the SIP- if you press delete once the prompter will fastly go backwards and delete the entire text! So be carefull.A similar behaviour I encountered on the arrow keys: if you press once right or left the prompter will not jump a character, it will go at the begining or the end of the text. Also a friend reported that on his device this version of opera mini misses the exit button.
Too bad for this release, the browser in this stage is lame.
And stop comparing opera mini with opera 10. They are tottaly different, despite they look the same. Opera 10 does full browsing and opera mini uses servers to resize data before sending it to the phone, that's why it's fast.
The best browser I have tried for my mobile!
Finally I cand read the pages without a lot of zooming and adjusting.
So what is the difference between Mini 5 and Mobile 10 now?

of course you know that all mini's are using opera server to generate smaller amount of data being sent to your devices.
it's whole secret of its speed and main difference(i wouldnt make bank transactions that way, generally)..
Okay this is confusing. I thought that the whole server resize thing was Opera Turbo, which comes built in in both mini and mobile now, right?

My understanding is that Turbo in Mobile is sort of a half-way version - I guess they are rendering images server-side and sending text for rendering on the device, or something like that. Mini is definitely much faster, and I haven't encountered any of the problems that other people are reporting about not displaying pages, input or anything yet on this release, having used it for a couple of days.
I guess if you use your winmo device for full web browsing, you're going to use mobile, but if like me you use it for email, surfing news sites, forums and message boards, then mini is just sooooo much faster, even with mobile turbo mode now available.

Can't post anything on forums etc, so it looks like the submit biuttons don't work.
I'm still finding it brilliant just for general surfing, and there's always mobile or the old java version to fall back on if needed.

Hi This my name is Camillo.
i have a question about my Hd2.
The problem is that if i am on the internet i always been directed to the mobile page, but isnt there a way so that i can go to the normal webpage. i wil really make things a lot easyer. sorry about my inglish. thank you in advance.
Your browser identifies itself as beeing a mobile device.
It is a service of the site to direct you to theit mobile version: less data transfer, less use of flash, silverlight and that kind of stuff.
Mostly those sites have a button to see the original site often at the top or at the bottom of the page.
Other possibility is to change your User Agent string (opera:config) to "Opera/9.64(Windows NT 5.1; U; en) Presto/2.1.1" (without quotes) note original user agent string before changing, so you can revert.
This identifies as a windows opera browser, but possibly websites will not be full functioning.
Also from the settings of the browser
tank you, but can you explain how to.do this to change the string
Just do what I do. Keep Google as a homepage and at the bottom of the page there is a mobile and 'classic' option, click the Classic and you are sorted.
There are registry fixes, but I can never be bothered to change the values and strings.
i have used the google option and it worked like a charm. tank you all for your time and answers.
Some crappy web sites like creditfoncier.fr declares the following tag in the heading of a page:
Code:
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, minimum-scale=1.0, maximum-scale=1.0">
It seems to be a fix for an ios bug. But on my android phone I can only see a part of the page. I found a solution that suits to my needs. If I type the following text in the address bar, the page appears exactly the same as on a desktop browser:
Code:
javascript:var metas = document.getElementsByTagName('meta');for (i=0; i<metas.length; i++) {if (metas[i].name == "viewport") {metas[i].setAttribute("content","");}}
I added it to my bookmarks to fix crappy sites on demand.
But I am looking for a better solution. Is there a browser option or plugin to always ignore declared viewport? Or a web service to disable viewport interpretation?
Thank you
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You
THANK YOU! I know you're asking for a better way, but you just provided me with the only way I have found so far. I have an iPhone 6 Plus (1920x1080) and was forced into crappy mobile layouts of "Responsive" pages when my Mac displays the proper layout and only has 1440x900! I'm just hoping more people can find your post, and even better yet someone makes a browser to ignore the viewport, or better still the whole world stops the evil practice of responsive web design. Anyway on iOS 8.1 this DOES work in Safari, but ONLY as a bookmark. If you paste this into the URL Safari says JavaScript can't be used this way.
You're welcome
You're welcome!
One of the goals of my message was to share a solution I found, as well as keep it safe for myself. The best way would actually be an option in browser, or a browser add-on. I hope someone will develop one.
Glad it helped you.
