You'll actually find that a pattern at a numeric PIN are essentially the same thing... Just imagine the circle on the top left is a '1', then the one on the bottom right is a '9' - all the other numbers can be imagined using the standard left to right, top to bottom sequence, adding a value of 1 to the previous number to get the new number (I know it sounds complicated, but it's actually quite easy)
Of course, there is no '0', which can really throw you, but you'll get used to it.
Yes, before you say it, I know, you can't use the same virtual number twice in the same code, but I tend not to in my PIN numbers anyway, so for me, it's a moot point... Although I totally understand your concern.
You'll also find the action of dragging your finger through virtual numbers, in a continual sequence is actually quicker than lifting and tapping them individually - hence the advent of such text entering apps like; Swype, Slide It, etc.
Anyway, my point being, you probably won't get too much support on this.

...you're right, I'm NOT a developer - I probably shouldn't have read this...

oh snap, i'm not a developer and i'm reading :O
btw. pattern is OK, better than stupid PIN access.

Removing simple swipe unlocking?

One thing that really annoys me about my X2 is the fact that when it's idle and I want to use it, I have to first slide my finger left to right to unlock the screen, and then put in my security pattern to use the phone. It's a little redundant and stupid to have to do both. Now that I"m rooted, is there a way I can remove the initial left to right swipe screen unlock?

There's a free app in the Market called No Lock. I have it, and it works great!

Ah that's right, someone mentioned that before but I wasn't rooted at the time. Thanks.
EDIT: Actually that takes both things off, I only want the initial sliding unlock removed, I still want to enter my pattern...
I found AntiLock which does what I want but is kind of shoddy... it shows the home screen for a split second before making you enter the pattern, and there's no emergency contact button down below. There has to be something else out there.

I use No Lock; put MIUI on my wife's nook color and No Lock was bundled with it. Seems to work well.
No Lock doesn't do what I want though, I still want some security in the form of the pattern lock. I just don't want the stupid left to right swipe screen, it's pointless.

Nitpicks

Ok my first one,
Why make the pattern unlock in the middle of this big screen? it should be movable to toward the bottom or sides. Very hard to unlock one-handed.
Very surprised so far on how well i can hold this phone on a crowed subway, its like perfectly weighted, when u thing your gonna drop it it swings right into the palm of your hand
You can unlock it anywere on the screen.

OP is talking about the pattern unlock, not the default unlock.
This is just another case of hand size/finger length which is just a matter of getting used to the device or finding an app to ease the situation.

Any suggestions on apps? I love the pattern lock screen, but even on my old Vibrant i would constatly get locked out, always missing pattern. It is not easy now to unlock on handed, which is important on a crowded NYC subway...
luckly i have doubletwist player to change my music w/o unlocking...

As far as the lock screen goes, I'm not using it. I use an app called no lock which bypasses the lock screen. I dont have nothing to hide yet
But for you, not sure if you need to be rooted to mess with the dpi apps where it will make the pixels larger and might make the reach easier for you but not 100% sure.

You can also hold volume down. Having it in the notification bar is redundant to me. I'd rather have a lte switch, honestly.

1. Can't voice dial using bluetooth when there's a password set.
2. Can only sync 30 days' worth of Exchange email*.
3. No option to encrypt device or SD card*.
4. Font in email app, even when set to "tiny", is too large. I was able to somewhat mitigate this with the installation of a font pack and a font sizing utility, but would prefer that the built-in options worked better.
5. Email body pinch-zoom setting is not saved between message viewings.
6. Email app forces auto-refresh every time a mailbox is opened. Useless for push accounts and wastes battery. If I set a 1hr polling interval, just honor it. I'll refresh if I want to as there's a menu option for that right at my fingertips.
7. Would prefer the option to turn off LTE as I'm in a fringe area and I believe it is negatively impacting my battery life. The big battery test is today, after several days of use and several full overnight charges.
8. Personally, I think the power/volume buttons are too easy to push accidentally.
9. I wish the S-pen were 1/4' - 1/2" longer and *gasp* weighted a little. I wouldn't mind.
10. Moving items in Exchange email boxes with many folders is a difficult because there is no expanding folder hierarchy - you have to scroll through every level of every email folder and they aren't even indented to give you an idea of where you are in the list. I have something like 200 folders so it takes forever to scroll through the list*.
11. Wish the battery were bigger. Yep, I said it...
* These would probably be fixed by an ICS update

Hey, he said "nitpicks". I never said I didn't like it; these are just the things I would change.
Nitpick......the s-pen seems to be ideal for right handed people. i always seem to see a 2-3mm gap in line im drawing to where the pen actually is.
but when i put it in my right hand it seems to be alot more precise.
and YES i have changed it to left hand in the settings.
unless its the Zagg screen i have on there, but then i would think it would do the same thing for the right hand when i use but it does not.

Do you curl your hand over like some lefties, or do you mirror the way right-handed people write? I mirror right-handers and I don't have too much trouble with the pen. It's not perfect, but OK. When I curl my hand over like some lefties, it's awful; the line is 2-3mm higher than the pen tip.
i guess there is a slight curl when im using it lefty. its like this...
if i put the pen in my right hand and start a line, the line is on the left side of the pen right under the point.
when change the phone to lefty and put the pen in my left hand and start the line....the line is still on the left side of the point so its hidden under the pen if that makes sense.
i figured putting the pen in left hand mode would change the line to the other side so us lefties could see it better.....
damn right handed world..lol
My only real nitpick is that I can't use the stylus on the capacitive buttons. Not a HUGE pain, but just a minor annoyance.

That's what they included the gestures for. If I'm not mistaken, holding the button on the S Pen and swiping down on the screen takes you home, swiping up brings up the menu, and swiping left is back. And nobody cares about search anyways...haha

I have the same problem with my original pattern lock from the old phone. So what I did was change my pattern lock to just those that my thumb can reach one handed. lol. It's a bit tough to re-learn my pattern, but now I'm used to it, and I can unlock it with one hand.

[Q] Quick Pin Unlock Mod

I have looked all over the internet and all through XDA and I have either not seen it or it isn't there. I am currently running NOVENA on my i717 and I am using the PIN lock. I really liked on other ROMs how I could just type the password and it would automatically unlock. I was wondering if this was a mod that I could put on the phone myself or what I need to do!
Sorry about another Quick Pin Unlock to the series of questions.
you mean to tell me that adding an extra click by pressing the OK button after entering your PIN is such a hassle that it warrant a new MOD ??
Think of it as an extra character ... ie. instead of my usual 8 characters... I now have 9... etc
that was hard !!
I wasn't saying at all that its any hard work or anything, because obviously hitting one extra button isn't that hard. I just liked that if you entered it correctly it would just unlock. Personal preference is all. :good:
This option would allow much easier single handed operation(for right-handers at least) due to the OK placement.

[Q] Is it possible to change PIN lock screen appearance?

hello
i checked out widgetlocker and other lockscreen apps.
but the always juwt add another layer rather than modify the actual security screens.
i use the pin method to protect my phone.
and i do not want to first have to swipe away a screen to get to it.
but i would like to place a thing or two on the pin lock screen.
e.g. contact information in case the phone is lost or the ability to directly call someone without unlocking the phone.
(e.g. rather than just being able to call emergency numbers i would add a "call emergency contact" feature)
i was wondering if anybody could tell me which file contains the necessary pin screen layout information, i.e. which file would need to be modified to achieve this?
hope someone can help me out
or does someone know how to activate emergency contacts on the lock screen?

Well, you can put your contact under the "Owner Info", and it will show up on the PIN unlock screen (I use PIN lock myself). But as for having an actual shortcut/button to call a number, I have no idea...
already set the owner info, but that's not quite the same.
especially as it does not appear when you are charging or when the sim lock is shown.
i know that "ice_isenabled" should show the extra "group" and then show an additional button on the homescreen.
but it doesn't seem to work on my samsung.
motorola owners seem to be able to activate it...

Hmm... I do have the "ICE - Emergency Contacts" group, and I have some people in that group, but I didn't know it's supposed to enable an extra button/shortcut. I just checked, and it doesn't seem to work for me either...

Could it be something specific to a Moto custom UI (MotoBlur, or whatever it's called)?
which firmware are you using?
maybe you can see the group and add members but "ice_isenabled" isn't set yet?

[Q] Can someone PLEASE make a LOCKSCREEN

This is supposed to be a standalone device.
Great.
Wheres the security then???
Could someone please come up with a lockscreen (pattern / pin etc) for the Gear S
Just thinking aloud. The security is the pin when not connected to the phone. The phones' security and lock screen are in the systemui.apk which I don't even know exists for this device. I guess you would have to alter either one of the clock/home screen's code or alter the already installed disconnect pin, or a stand alone app that has root access. That would be cool for swipe, pattern, or even lock effects, but that's way above my pay grade. I love this watch and hope more development starts up. Just opinions.

I know right... this is a great watch with such scarce development for it.
It is a standalone device so it needs it's own security because i'll be using it without a phone soon. I'll need something to secure it but it seems the only way it can happen is if I learn the SDK and all that stuff which I just do not have time for and no experience with.

Not even an option at this point if you have an AT&T version
I also need a lockscreen not for security, simply because my clothes press accidentaly buttons and sometimes starts phone calls or mess up other things... please make a simple lockscreen so when i touch the screen from "screensaver watch" i must do a specific action to go to homescreen
I use the "do not disturb" on my S to lock the screen
Just one swipe down and one click on the chekbox.
