When using Odin - whats J16 vs JFD? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Isnt J16 the latest stock modem? Was JFD the one before it? Whats the diff between the 2 and which one should one Odin back to if they want their phone to be like current unrooted one sold in stores.

Jeye6 is Vibrant. I thought JFD was i9000?

JFD - Stock Rom
JI6 - ota update that came from t-mobile

When I use odin I start by flashing the jfd files, let it boot, go back to download mode and odin the ji6 files. It may be unnecessary, but I feel like it cleans it all up for me

But then I read that Nandroid doesn't backup/restore the kernal so do I actually have to use the Odin method? Was hoping to avoid that.

If you want to Nandroid back to a JFD-based backup:
1.) Disable Voodoo
2.) Download and flash the Stock-Kernel-Vibrant.zip from the Frankin-Twiz thread
3.) Nandroid your backup

AFAIK Jac's kernel is still compatible with JFD. Making it compatible with JIx builds is something we owe to eugene373 in the first place as this used to be an issue.
I switched from rooted stock, to bionix w/stock kernel. Do I need to Odin back to stock or can I just nandroid?

Nandroid will get you back to stock but will not put you back to stock baseline JFD. Odin is the only way back to true stock.

Depends on which version of Bionix. Bionix 1.4 and below are based off JFD so you can Nandroid a stock backup safely. Otherwise you can flash the JFD kernel and Nandroid a stock backup, however this will not flash your baseband (modem.bin) back to JFD (but should still work I believe).
Thanks guys. I'm a linux user and don't want to deal with wine. So just wondering if I flash 1.4 or earlier then nandroid. Will that get me back to stock base band?

Just in case you haven't read this yet...
If you wind up using Odin - find a windows PC - don't take chances with Wine + Odin - Odin is bad enough as it is.
Also, make sure your phone isn't hardware locked if you haven't already. If it IS hardware locked and Odin fails, (as is very common), you'll brick your phone.
Yeah that is why I was trying to avoid using it. If I don't get an answer by morning, I will just try to flash down and report back here so hopefully people will have something to reference. I searched but couldn't find a definite answer.

I haven't tried it but flashing down should work.
Also if you are unable to get into recovery using the volume and power buttons you should return your phone for an exchange. This is consider a defect and you'll likely be unable to consistently get into download mode - not a good thing when experimentally flashing ROMS and kernels.

Why would you want to switch from Bionix?

I just checked out the bible and it only lists deodexed, rooted, and Voodoo injected KA6's. I am not sure if there is unrooted stock KA6 flashable out there. But when I sent mine in for a replacement because one of capacitive button's light went out, I did go back down to JFD and used Kies Mini to upgrade to KA6 before sending it off.

[Q] ED05 odin to send back to verizon?

If I odin ED05 and leave as is, should I be good sending it back to verizon or should I get back to ED04? I guess im just curious if ED05 has been officially released yet. I dont want any evidence of rooting and custom roms when i send it back so i'm not billed for my charge.

I would not send it back to Verizon with ED05 - that's just too risky these days. When I was on tech support to send back my fascinate, they checked all the system settings to make sure I was at the correct official baseband and android version.
Flash the full DL09 stock package from here (http://www.multiupload.com/RHBS9B1CDO) and do the official OTA updates to get to ED04.
Well the ED05 thread does say "leak".
good day.

odin official vzw dl09.tar with the atlas 2.2 pit file with the repartition box checked...that will get you back to dl09...you may have to odin the dl09 modem separately (I don't think the radio is In the package and I believe you need to have the radio match the build to get ota to go through) everything you'll need is in the dev sticky...going from cm7/omfgb./miui to any other rom.....in there you'll find the dl09 file, the atlas 2.2 and the modem is in the sticky in the dev section that nitsuj write...list of sch-i500 rom/kernels/recovery/mods..flash the file and the pit and reboot, then flash modem and try to allow ota's

Ed05 is newer and it says it has the missed call issues fixed and a few other things...eb01 that you are on now is not an official update (I don't think) so you will have to odin the full dl09 package to get back to stock rom/kernel/recovery and then update ota from there, ed05 is now an official release so I would think there would be your best bet.
As far as the international sim card stuff I have no idea but I hope this helps!

Thx for the reply. If i'm just using odin and not ota,can u give me the link to download the firmware?because I can't download the OTA from verizon cause I'm not in US,so everything must be done with Odin

Thats the link for ed05 but it looks a little more tricky than just downloading and flashing in odin, you may want to go to Ed04 for now until they get an odin
.tar file that doesn't need to be unzipped

Thx.So,in summary:
1. I have to odin-ed my fascinate to DL09.
2.After that,I have to odin-ed my fascinate again to ED05 from your link?
3.When it's done,I can odin CWM and root my fascinate?
And,by the way.Should I inject my number again?or my number will still be in the phone?cause I don't subscribe to verizon (I don't live in US) and I'm using my country's simcard
no need to go back to dl09, just flash the ed05 tar via odin. Ed05 is the new stock replacement package for dl09.... you only need the atlas pit file and check repartition only if your coming from cm7 or miui... if your planning on stayin stock ed05 flash cwm2.5.1.x, but if your planning on flashing another rom, flash cwm3. I'm not sure about your number srry.

[Q] Stock rom T959UVJFD!

Is T959UVJFD the latest stock rom for Tmobile's Vibrant?
No, JFD is the stock rom Vibrant originally shipped with. It is Android 2.1
Since then Samsung has released two updates. JI6 and KB5. KB5 is 2.2.
I suggest reading the guides before you do anything. If your phone is completely stock you can download Samsung's Kies Mini onto your computer and upgrad to stock 2.2 via kies mini.
If you want something custom, check out the dev section but deffinately read the guides and ask lots of questions.

Make sure your friend doesn't have any roms installed or voodoo or anything like that before using kies mini.
also if you want root, you should look in the dev section for "stock kb5 deodexed and rooted"
Kies mini will update you to kb5, but it is not rooted.

As far i can remember, ka6 was the first "official" froyo for the vibrant, it was available through kies (thought it was ka7, but now I remember clearly it was ka6) then another update through kies was kb5? Kb1 was a leak?
So 3 updates i guess

Not that it really matters but KB5 was official and released direct from Samsung via Kies Mini. It did not come OTA via T-mobile but it is the latest official non-leaked ROM direct from Samsung.
