With so many windows phones from HTC (Touch HD, Touch Pro, HD2) having Android builds for them and have shown they can run Android on these systems, I was wondering if you think its worth for someone with knowledge to try and port the Windows Phone 7 builds on Xperia X10 ?
Prima facie, it has the necessary hardware requirements such as three buttons, 1 GHz processor, enough RAM etc !!!
What do you think and will anyone be interested in trying ?

i think win 7 requires 512 mb ram.. x10 has only 384..
nd why would u want wm7 on x10 either.. seems wm7 is turning out to be pure crap!!
Too early for speculation
Why not buying an Windows 7 phone ... why the hell somebody will put such an ugly OS on the wonderful X10?

it only needs 256 as ms said not 512
WP7 looked really nice at first. But Microsoft have gone too far with the nazi-like apple control. It's way too locked down, phones wont even have memory card slots.
Dont support these types of OS and behavior people, it's not the way forward.

Not 100% sure. i did read both: that they do not allow card slots and that phones come out with one. (i think i read it with a DELL phone anywhere in the www 1 week ago)
Is this possible? 'cause i would like to play around with something new for our x10
If someone can validate the possibility in doing so,then i will try to work on this.

Possible? Yeah, it's definitely possible. The X10 shares the same QSD8250 and Adreno 200 that the HD2 has (that has a port of WP7). But other than that, I don't think anyone really has the motivation to do the immense work that would be required to get WP7 running on the X10 (driver issues as there isn't similar enough hardware that's running WP7 as the X10)... not to mention that the bypass method may not be enough (I may be wrong as they've gotten Backtrack and Win95 running, lol)
ok thanks for the information undone i will pm some devs and hope they write me back. at least this would make a little bit more fun than watching all those threads getting some new roms upped
and this could also help us to improve our devices
Sincerely Flame
Edit: seems as if this will be for now a one man Show.
So please be patient ;D

i prefer ics more than wp7...
i think windows 7 is not good for x10
getting a new OS is always a better option why not try it??
You can download Launcher 7 and all WP7 apps from market and you will get an awesome WP7 experience

Xperia x10i
Android version : 2.3.9
Kernel : DoomKernel v6
Rom : FeraLab v14
Addons : Xperia S
I suppose it can be done I had windows 95 on mine at one point for a laugh (its somewhere on here how to do it). Although not sure bout win 7 thinking bout it it uses some serious RAM, something our dear phones lack.

Let's be realistic this will probably never happen. And why would someone waste time porting wp7 os to our x10 . If you want wp7 os get a win7phone.

Hello to all members,
I am totally new to this forum and I love it from the very first impression.
I am noob and I know nothing much about android, however I have started to read a lot on this forum. Thanks to all those nice helping guys around.
I am about to buy an android mobile, And, in my budged Sony Xperia X8 and LG Optimus One fits best. I am in great confusion about which phone i should buy.
What i think is X8 is definitely not going to get 2.2 update. But I liked it`s music quality. And in some review, i read that internet browsing his smoother on it than O1. Is that really true?
I want to use lot of internet and music. Please can someone help me out with this?
I done much googling on this, and finally created this thread.
So, in short i wanted to ask you guys to please help about following-
1)can I use those android mobiles as modem, i run windows XP
2)Is it better than symbian s60 ? I am using nokia n72 from past 4 years. Should I switch myself to android?
3)considering internet experiance, which mobile is better?
are there any good browsers available there for more better experiance?
4)according to your experiance, which one should i really buy?
I am waiting eagerly for your responses as I had lot of panic in deciding between these two mobiles. Also, if you know any mobile within same price range let me know.

Wireless/USB Tethering, i guess. Most new Android phones come with this Though I'm not sure if this applies to Eclair (2.1)

I would say yes. Android is much more open and customizable than Symbian. However, Symbian devices require much less CPU and RAM. And in case you ask me, I'd go for Android.

Both of them have a 320x480 resolution, so as screen readability is concerned, I think they're the same. Both don't have flash. There are many browsers are there designed for different kinds of goals. Skyfire, for instance, aims to be able to play those flash videos, even though the phone doesn't have flash player.
By the way, I think the X8 doesn't have multitouch, so no pinch zoom. Pinch zoom is important for me O1 scores here.

O1, since we're going to get (hopefully) Gingerbread soon enough. + multitouch (though buggy), it's newer, bigger RAM and internal memory, etc.
It pretty much answers itself when you post the question in optimus one forum lol, personally I was also considering x8, but since I'm a techie, one look at the ram on x8 (I believe its 128mb) compared to 512mb on optimus one, it was a clear decision.
Thanks!

Thanks so much for your reply AzNxJoHnNy. Yeah, As you said, I am almost about to buy O1. I think I will come to know more once I got my own hands on it.
Thank you so much!

Hey kpbotbot, Thank you so much for your efforts and a VERY quick reply. I think I should go for O1 now. Are there any more mobiles you can suggest? just asking.

No problem. That's the power of being stuck at home lol. Anyway, here are other phones I considered in the same price range:
1. HTC Wildfire - didn't choose because of screen resolution (240x 320, too low).
2. Samsung Galaxy Spica - I thought there was no multitouch, is old (yeah, for me), no official Gingerbread (considering the fact that the decision was made last december 2010)
3. Galaxy 3/5 - Screen resolution, no Gingerbread.
4. Optimus Chic - I couldn't wait for the release. It was a good decision on choosing the O1 though, since there is no Chic subforum here in xda afaik.
5. Maybe I forgot some other phones. These were my best choices last December
Motorola defy is the next step forward from these phones. Google for it's specs.
The only + X8 has over O1 is headphone audio quality. O1 is pain for ears, even with good headphones.

The short answer is no. The easiest way for ports to be made is to use similar/identical hardware that is running the desired platform. Therefore seeing as there isn't any similar hardware running WP7.5 then it would be insanely hard.

1. WP7 is a closed-source operating system, its hard to modify it like implementing other drivers.
2. The exynos processor is a very unique component, no wp7 phone uses such a processor, its a hard workt to rewrite nearly the whole os.
and these are only 2 arguments, why we will never get wp7 on our sgs2.

thanx for quick reply , i didn't know that windows is closed-source and it's so hardware demanded.
The one and only not-WP7-phones to run a Windows Phone are HD2 and Toshiba TG-01. Those are WM phones and I don't think that it's possible for any Android device to run WP7.
And I used it quite a bit when I still had my HD2. Believe me-Android is way better .

Symbian is a zombie OS, walking dead, so if your primary interest is the camera and you don't mind using an almost orphan OS go for the Pureview, if you care about user experience, apps, updates, etc. avoid Symbian at all cost.

It was already very detailed. Symbian is barely customizeable and is a dead OS. Nokia is also essentially abandoning it in favor of Windows.
The only good thing about that phone is the camera. Everything else is a disaster.
Go for the android.
Symbian, lol.
Trust me, xperia s is a great phone

Is it possible to install Android 4 on Nokia Lumia 920?
Unfortunately not at this point in time, Many users would love to have a dual boot option, Set a bounty to the Dark Forces Team to work on HSPL and if there is enough interest then may be work will begin
Either way it will not be happening for a very long time.
Yes, you just need the boot floppy.
i want Android too.
Not much love in WM8 now.
According to the reviews I read getting HSPL for the WP8 devices is close to impossible. (although that was said about a lot of things) I personally would however not want Android on this awesome device even if someone paid me for it

Buy an Android phone then. Problem solved.
These aren't desktop computers you can just load any OS onto, they are complex embedded devices.
There is a surprising lack of compatibility on ARM processors, so you're better buying the phone with the OS you want to run.

Have to agree, why get a WM8 phone if you want to put Android on it?
HD2 was also a wm6.5 phone, right??
But I don't think there are a lot of HD2 still running wm6.5.
Why people keep porting different OS into it? They can just buy an android device, problem solved, too.
I think there will be more fans if 920 can be ported other OS.

What is "WM8"?
There are more than enough Android phones bro.
You bought the wrong phone if you really want Android
the Lumia 920 is pure Windows Phone, you can fell the power and style it
radiates
There was not a single port of Android to a WP7 phone and almost all of them had HSPL. When looking into HSPL for Nokia though some Devs decided it was to hard to crack - I would guess with Secure Boot this has not gotten easier.
So all in all: it is highly unlikely that you will see an Android port for the Lumia phones or any other WP for that matter. If you don't like WP8 and want an Android device: sell the Lumia and buy an Android - everything else seems likely to just frustrate you to no end.
