What a start to the day! I teach fitness instructing and gym circuits at a nearby college and on my way to the class (from my car) i dropped my phone. I had my ipod blasting so didnt hear it fall out my pocket I did my circuits and had a little break and thought id check my phone well.... you know the sinking feeling you get? yup I had that! I retraced my steps through the car park and didnt see it... went to reception and luckily some good honest soul out there handed it So gratefull theres some genuine people out there.
One of the main thoughts at the time of panic was that I didnt have a pin lock on my phone. just the usual slide lock so anyone could have access to it and have access to my emails, pictures, facebook and make countless calls.
The reason I didnt put a pin lock on was a few months back I had to factory reset my phone and I never backed it up so Lost everything, due to the fact the phone wouldnt recognise my pin
What Apps would you guys recommend for me to install... coz lets face it I need to password protect the phone. I need a RELIABLE lock that wont drain my battery.
Sorry for the essay
i've moved on from WM to android on the HD2...what i like about android is that it offers the usual slide lock, PIN lock, alpha-numeric lock, as well as the "pattern lock". i think the pattern lock offers plenty of combinations (CLOSE to 9!+8!+7!+6!+5!+4!+3!+2! combinations) to make cracking tough and is much easier to input with fat fingers unlike the PIN or alpha-numeric locks.
WM 6.5(.x) natively offers the old-style lock, the new slide lock, PIN lock, and alpha-numeric lock.
cookie's home tab offers still more lock screen options, though i think they are all slide based.
S2U2 is another popular slide lock.
i believe a good pattern lock for WM exists in the form of "throttle lock", haven't tried it personally but it seems nice.

Hi Guys,
Well i hope this is not a dupe post, however ill give it a shot.
So i have my new Android phone that is setup with Exchange syncing from work. There is a PIN number that is forced onto my phone which is ok, however coming from an iphone they had a really neat feature where i could set the timeout on the PIN to say 15mins, then anytime i used my phone during that time i didn't have to enter in the PIN. This was ok with me. However since moving to Android, it seems that when i set the PIN and the screen lock feature to say 2 mins (so the screen will turn off quickly) when i wake it up the phone asks me for a PIN. It is starting to get quite annoying.
Now before you all jump on the security bandwagon, i want to first say i am happy with having to enter the PIN, however i was wondering if there is an app or solution out there that could make it similar to the way the iphone handles the PIN timeout.
I am using a carrier supplied phone, so no rooting or hacks have been done to the phone yet.
Does anyone currently know if there is any way to add in the PIN timeout feature (or whatever it may be called) so that when i wake my phone from sleep within a certain time, the PIN will not be asked until that timer has been met?
The apps i have seen do NOT work when exchange sync is enabled.
Any help would be really appreciated.
cheers
Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on my question?
Thanks.
There's a version of email with the security requirement disabled. This would allow you to set your own password requirements and screen time out.
Where could I find this replacement email app?
Hi,
Not sure if this has been asked before, but If a pin number or password is set up for the lock screen, this can be bypassed by pressing the home button 5 or 6 times and will then open up the phone without the need to enter the password or pin. A work colleague found this out by accident and was able to access the phone uninhibited. Is this a feature in case of forgotten passwords / pins or is it a bug. Or can it be disabled? as it doesn't seem all that secure
Mine doesnt do that, tried it several times
must be a bug on your phone
Yeah I though that but another work colleague has the same phone and his does it as well. You have to press it quite quickly it seems to go into the voice control when it comes on and then goes on to normal phone use. I have found other references to it googling, but seems to be relating to a fix if you have actually forgotten the password.
We've been having a fiddle , and now having powered off the phones cold and restarting after setting the pin numbers it has stopped doing it. Up untill now after setting the pin code we hadn't actually powered off completely just into standby. SO you presumably must have to reboot the phone after setting the pin number.
Anyway both phones are working and cant replicate the issue, so hopefully sorted.
Thanks
Build Number 23.4.A.1.200
I've recently updated my Z2 to the above build number. Around the same time, I also added an Exchange account through my work that forces a 6-digit PIN and encryption of the phone's contents.
I find the 6-digit PIN unlock is annoying as it is because I'm used to the pattern unlock... but I've noticed that every time I type the PIN in wrong the first time, the secondary screen (pic attached) comes up and I have to type the word "SONY" (only works in upper case too!) before I can reattempt the PIN again.
I've tried to search around online but can't seem to find anything at all about that screen...
Does anyone know how to remove this secondary unlock screen so that I don't have to type "SONY"? It pretty much means I have to unlock my phone with two hands. I'm not sure if it's part of the firmware update or whether it's a security setting forced by my company policy via the Exchange settings.
I believe the purpose of the screen would be to prevent accidental entering of the PIN 5 times, for example, while it's in my pocket and subsequently causing the phone to wipe the contents.
Appreciate any help... thanks!
so with the update to MM I'm finally able to use the fingerprint unlock with a case, but either I missed something or it's still somewhat annoying to use. after booting up I need to enter a password, which I'm okay with, however after using my device for a bit and letting it go to lock there are times where I need to re-enter my password instead of the fingerprint and this is without rebooting. is this normal?
EDIT: so I came across a few places that mention the use of Nova Launcher or 3rd party lockscreen apps... I don't have any of the latter, but I do have Nova Launcher except I'm not using that to lock my screen. am I missing something here?
It will do that I believe as a default. You can set up a smart place, like home, on your person, whatever, and it won't lock with a password. I use it on mine for the house, and certain devices it connects to.

I believe there may be an issue now... I just unlocked my device using the fingerprint and I have my device set to lock after 10 minutes. Less than 10 minutes after my screen goes off I wake up my device with a double tap and it's locked, prompting for a password!
My friend had an unathorized access to her phone, a spouse bypassed her screen lock and I want to find out how was he able to do that so she can better secure herself. Her smartphone is Xiaomi Redmi 6A, software up to date.
So here's what happend. Her spouse sneaked inside her room during the night, took her phone (we know because sim and sd card were missing in the morning) and somehow bypassed the screen lock, accesed her facebook messenger, took some screen shots and then sent it to her (sort of blackmail purpose). I was also surprised to find out in the morning that "she" viewed my last message at 5 am with no reply, but turned out it was her spouse. He hasn't removed the lock, she had no idea he accessed it until reading his messages later on.
As far as I'm aware of, there is no possible solution to bypass the lock in a modern phone such as redmi 6A, without doing a hard reset and especially, without leaving the lock in place.
Any idea how was he able to access it in that scenario? Taking her sim and sd card might have something to do with it, but I have no idea. All I can think of is that he simply guessed the screen lock password, it was only 4 digits (android show the dots informing how many you should enter). And my guess is that it wasn't his first try.
