One thing I noticed after updating my x10a to 2.1 is that, every time the GPS is turned on, a dialog box pops up and asks you to agree to possible data charges.
It doesn't remember my choice of "agree" and repeats the question EVERY time I toggle the GPS on.
Is there somewhere I should look in XML files or configuration files to disable this dialog?
Am I the only one that this happens to? I like to turn off WIFI and GPS when I'm not using them (just as a habbit).
Thanks.
What firmware are you on...
I'm on Nordic and don't have an issue...
It is every time you switch on GPS, or when an application activates it?
I have GPS "on" all the time, but it's only used when an application activates it, and when that happens, I do not get a notification...
Perhaps (and this is only a guess), you've got location via networks also enabled, which would use data, which might be why you get the notification...
Cheers
The dialog pops up every time it is switched on. So far I've checked that it happens when turned on with the following methods:
in the settings > location menu
using extended controls toggle widget
using switchpro toggle widget.
I did have "location via networks" on, but turned it off and there was no change (I still got the dialog).
Thanks for you suggestions/help. My software versions are attached, what software version is the Nordic you are running?
Everything's the exact same, except I've got an x10i
Dunno... ??
Does anybody with an x10a on Rogers experience this?
I have the same issue and I have been searching for a solution.
Does anyone have any idea how to get rid of the confirmation box?
Just to bring this back to the top... is this dialog box still present on the new firmware? Can anybody with the latest firmware confirm?
I'm on latest firmware with X10a. I noticed this problem when I switched back to X10a from X10i last week.

This dialog only pops up when an application is going to enable GPS.
If you have GPS off and the open an app that uses GPS and has the ability to enable it then it will likely ask you if it is OK to enable it. This is because some folks may have it off for a reason and having an app secretly turn it on would suck.
This dialog comes up no matter how I enable the GPS (phone settings, widget, app)). When it pops up every time I try and toggle GPS, it defeats the point of a toggle! The annoying part is it worked fine in 1.6. It asked this once (informed you of possible data usage) and was gone.
Looks like x10a has the dialog and x10i doesn't.

I've got a x10i with 2.1 DT and it's always had the dialog- on 1.6, 2.1 (the first release, and 2.0.2), and now the DT kernel.
I'm looking for a solution to this problem, because for me it is a problem ...
when I open an application which use gps,i want to turn on gps itself.can we do something for this????please help...

I have installed Lookout mobile security which has a phone location option. Via their website you click 'Locate' which will activate GPS on your phone (data connection required). Unfortunately the warning "Data transmission charges may apply" pops up on the phone's screen preventing my phone from being found until I click 'Agree'.
Is there a way to disable this warning and just allow GPS to be enabled?
I have the same isue, any workarround?

I have tried everything I can think of, with no results. Short of re-flashing with a different ROM, which seems extreme.
I've also heard inconsistent reports. Not everyone seems to have this problem. I'm using an X10 on Rogers Wireless.
I also have this issue, using tasker to send gps info when receiving sms.
It used to work without the warning on android 1,6 for me.

Same for me. This started after upgrading to 2.1
**EDIT**
I flashed the phone to X10a_1.0_2_1_A_0_435, and back to stock, and nothing has changed. Looks like my cause is pretty much dead.
did anyone come up with a workaround for this? i have SMS GPS installed to turn gps on and "Gps my droid" installed to tell me my phone location once its on. if i lose my phone and GPS cant be enabled without pushing the button, what good is it? also, if someone steals the phone its not likely that they're going to agree to turn it on once they realize theres been text messages sent to turn it on. help!
theres gotta be a discrete way of turning off the notification so i can track someone down if they steal it!

That notification comes from the system or from the application?
I get no confirmation message when I turn on the GPS on my X10.
If the app itself produces this notification, then you should contact the developer,
because you are right, it renders the application useless.
good question but my phone is rendering the confirmation/notification, not the application. every time i turn on GPS, no matter how i still get the agree/disagree disclaimer. even if i go directly into the phone settings under location and security and try to enable it still says "data transmission charges may apply. anonymous data will be collected when an application uses GPS. Agree or Disagree"
im kinda shocked that yours doesnt say it. what rom are you using? im on 2.1 update 1 global and rooted.

Maybe you can leave the GPS on...
If no application is using it, it won't affect your battery. And you can always know if it's in use from the flashing icon in the statusbar.
I am on custom ROM, but I don't remember it happening on stock 2.1 either. I could be wrong though.

usb debugging and unknown sources are checked. but im a little confused by your statement, you said "make sure both boxes are ticked." you mean gps and wireless networks? if so, then thats exactly my point. i need them off during normal use but i want them to turn on via my SMS app. i dont leave them on all the time because of battery draining. the SMS app im using turns on wifi without any notification. but turning on the gps always gives a notification..thats what im trying to alleviate.

Turning on the GPS only (not the wireless network location)
will not drain your battery, unless an app is polling location data.
And if it does, you'll see the GPS icon in the statusbar, it can't happen without you knowing.
So leave GPS on is your best solution.
Or contact the developer of the app to implement a different way of turning on the GPS.

I get this message when enabling it too, every time, it's a system message when activating the gps itself, not through the mobile network, very annoying by the way.
And the same thing happens with data, kinda makes it hard to remotely enable anything on stock rom when your phone is stolen, what were sony thinking?
This will solve your problem.
For Root Explorer, go to /system/app, find "LearningClient.apk," click Mount R/W on the upper right corner, and DELETE this app. (May be risky)
The safest way is to use rom toolbox app manager or Titanium Backup, find "Learning Client 2.1 1.0.0," and FREEZE it.
it's working, but could you tell us what that service doing? I mean "learning client", is it safe to disable it?
My Galaxy S2 keeps automatically connecting to the BT Openzone wireless AP (basically a portal that you have to pay extra to use). Sometimes it connects to this instead of my home network which is a huge pain. I can tell android to forget the BT network but it soon rediscovers it again. Is there anyway I can block it completely? I cant seem to find an app that can do this.
hi mrjeffery
I had exactly the same thing happen to me yesterday - and I noticed it only started happening after i installed that badly written "My Vodafone" app.
So I "assume" that you're also running the same or similar app?
In the My Vodafone app, select the "more" tab, press your menu button - settings - and remove the tick from "Enable BT Openzone"
I have noticed that even if you uninstall the app with that option ticked it still tries to connect to BT Openzone - so if you still have the problem after you removed the app, re-install it, remove the BT openzone tick and you should be good.
Why Vodafone decided to enable the function for people who didnt sign up for BT openzone is beyond me?
Good luck and I hope this helps!
You're absolutely right! I've disabled the option in the Vodafone app which should resolve the issue completely. I never knew it was there in the first place. Thankyou!

Ok, first off I've searched many of the data connection issue threads out there but nothing seems to apply to my situation.
I'm having a problem where my data will disconnect whenever i receive/make a call and/or send/receive a text message. About 1-2min after the call has ended data will reconnect, if I toggle airplane mode data will reconnect a bit quicker.
I'm using a Bell Atrix, unlocked running Turl's CM9 from the below thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500535
I've had the phone for a year running the stock 2.2 then 2.3.4 then 2.3.6 and never had any problems until I unlocked the bootloader and installed CM9 a couple days ago.

You sure you're not in an EDGE/GPRS area? You can only have data during phone calls on 3G/HSPA+.
Edit: To verify this, go to Settings > About phone > Status and look at what it says for Mobile Network Type.

System settings/about phone/status/Mobile network type is :"HSPA:11"
I'm in a HSPA+ area, same location I've been using the phone since I bought it a year ago which is in the city core
ok, after a bit more trial and error I haven't been able to solve the problem but I have been able to narrow it down. As it turns out when GPS activates my connection will disconnect for the 1-2min as per above.
My workaround was just to disable GPS for the time being, but this isn't exactly a solution, if anyone has any advise it would be very much appreciated.

Remove multiple APNs. This happened with my old Desire Z. Whenever the GPS is on, data disconnects. Deleting unused APNs fixed this.
hmm, I've never deleted an APN before, if I do this will the network automatically reselect ones for me?
Don't delete everything, just delete what's not needed. The APN that's in use has a selected radiobutton at the right side. Leave that and the MMS one alone, delete the others.
I just deleted one of my two apns, then tested internet and a voice call which both still work, I turned GPS on and opened maps, I get the gps icon on the notification bar but it isn't blinking(also my network connection reset again), then I tried GPS test and again the gps icon at the top isn't blinking like it used to(it has the icon but it's hollow, i.e. no dot on the inside of it blinking) though my network connection didnt' reset this time at least.
I'm about ready to just chalk this up to CM9 on the Atrix just not working right because its unofficial and lacking proper drivers.
GPS icon in status bar does not blink when searching in ICS. You get a blank crosshair when it's searching for a signal, and a filled crosshair once it gets a lock.

ok so I tried turning gps on and running gps test, I let it go for 20min and it didn't pick up a single satellite(this is outside)
Try clearing agps data.

Thanks for the advise, I downloaded "GPS Status & Toolbox" from the market and used it to clear my A-GPS data, this seems to have solved the problem of my network disconnecting, however I'm still unable to get any satellites to show up in GPS test(yes GPS is turned on).
Any thoughts?
Normally I only have 5 Quick Settings icons enabled (Quick Memo, Wifi, Sound Profile, Data, and Bluetooth), however every time I reboot my phone, the Wifi Calling icon re-enables itself and pushes itself in between the Data and Bluetooth toggles, pushing Bluetooth off of the screen. I realize that it's easy to just go back into the 'Quick Settings' settings and un-tick Wifi Calling again, but it gets really annoying when I reboot multiple times a day. Does anyone know of a more permanent solution besides just un-ticking the box every time I reboot? If it helps, I am using the Gold edition G3 from Sprint (obviously) and I'm rooted. This 'problem' has been going on since I got the phone.
I have the exact same issue, but I have my WiFi Calling quick setting button enabled. Normally I have Bluetooth in the fifth and right most spot, but WiFi Calling always forces it's way back to that spot upon a reboot, pushing BT to the next page.
In the Edit menu, they show correctly but they are actually flipped, so I just move one of them then move it right back.
Not a huge problem, it's just a weird little glitch I've never seen before on any other device.
I was just about to post about the same situation (wifi callling always showing in quick settings).
Is there a fix to this. It is getting annoying because I never use wifi calling yet it always shows up in quick settings even though I always uncheck it the quick settings options
