Delay phone ring - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am new here and dont know where to post this. My question is if anyone has the problem with when someone calls the phone lights up but then only rings the last 5 seconds the same with it just on viberate so I barley have enough time to answer the phone. I have had this problem on three roms kaos v37, tazz vinilla v20 and tazz sense 2.2.1
Sent from my Eris using XDA App

Eris dialer lag... my only "solution" to this problem that i've run across...
changed your default "low" clock to 480... (most ROM's around here will probably default to 245)...
however, that will tend to lead to worse battery life. if you are using a Sense-based ROM, it will probably be worse.
maybe someone else has a better solution

To add to that, even with the minimum at 480, this still does happen.
Take note at how long it takes the phone to really get into the ring, with the ringtone and all, if you're, say, web browsing with your phone, or using The Weather Channel App, or YouTube.
The phone has slow internal memory (the processor is not the bottleneck at 528mhz, usually, and definitely not overclocked at 710mhz+ like most ROMs are) and the processor DOES ramp up its speed pretty quickly when a ring comes in.
Neither here nor there, there's not a WHOLE lot you can do to fix it. It's an Eris thing. HTC Hero has the same situation. It's my experience that SenseUI 2.1 ROMs come to a full, answerable ring faster than Froyo ROMs, but I haven't seen if that changes with the newer kernels and ROMs around.
Call Verizon and have them extend your ring from 30 seconds to 40+ seconds. I have mine at 40 seconds (8 rings) instead of 30 (default - 6 rings), and that extra 2 rings makes it so I virtually never miss a phone call.
I highly recommend that. Works perfectly.
You could also (with a SenseUI or Stock ROM) reduce your Slot Cycle Index.
Dial ##778 (call)

Slot Cycle Index.
Stock, the slot cycle index is at 2, which means your phone 'pages' the tower for new calls/texts/voicemails every 5.12 seconds. So in other words, it could be up to 5.11+ seconds that someone else is calling you, before your phone even pages the tower and KNOWS that someone's calling you. So they easily could be on the second ring before your phone 'sees' the ring. Then, your phone has to react. Cut data connection. Pause whatever process it's in the middle of. Free up some memory if necessary. Pull up the 'answer' screen... etc.
The point is, that by putting your Slot Cycle index at 1, you're cutting that 5.12 seconds down to 2.56 seconds. If you put it at 0, you're cutting that time to 1.28 seconds.
Having a lower Slot Cycle Index drains more battery (somewhat notciably at 0, but 1 is a good compromise), but your phone will ring faster (earlier in the call) and you will be less likely to miss it.
If you change the value to 1 or 0 or something, after you change it push

(your phone will reboot to make the change.)
I put my gf's phone on 0 because she's on Cricket - and Cricket only gives you 4 rings (20 seconds) to answer the call. So that thing has to ring FAST, or you miss the call. With Verizon, I have mine at 40 seconds, so I just leave my slot cycle at 2, and it works just fine.
Isn't it kind of funny how all those old dumb phones ring just about instantly (as soon as they page the tower), and these smart phones have all this process to go through just to answer? Kind of silly, a little bit.
But a necessary 'evil' to have a fully functional computer in your hand, IMHO.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but this issue has been plaguing me for some time now. I have my cpu set at 480MHz min, 604MHz max & my phone still seems to lag when there is an incoming call. The screen takes a long time to turn on, and only rings a few times before I miss the call. I am currently running Condemned v17 S2H, but have experienced this issue on other roms as well. Is there any way I can perform the ##778 procedure on a non-stock/non-sense ROM? If not, are there any other fixes out there?
Edit: This doesn't happen to me on every single call. Sometimes the phone seems to respond quicker than others. However, when it does occur, it is usually two rings or so (tested from a landline at work) before I hear my ringtone & the screen turns on.

CondemnedSoul may have found a solution to this issue. See his post here

With that said, however, I made the change to the build prop that he specified. I had a chance to make a few test calls before I left work, and it did seem to improve my phone's response speed. However, it was only a small sample size. I should be able to give a better answer in a few days after further testing, but for now, I think we are good! I'll keep everyone posted.

Based on what I've seen to this point, it seems that there is still some lag on the first phone call received after a reboot. However, every subsequent call after that has been much quicker to respond. Overall, a definite improvement on my phone. If anything changes, I'll let you know.

For another possible solution, check this thread here & the original thread from the Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 Development Forum.

I used the above link yesterday and can't be happier. Seems to have made things smoother and rings much snappier...

Had the same problem and it was mostly due to the cpu being underclocked. moving it to 480 helped but still wasn't a fix.
there was a post, looking for it now, in the mod section about a script that would reduce the ringer delay. I installed that and my phone rings on my end after/during the second ring on the other end.

After 6 weeks I'm about ready to nail my Hero to the wall!

Sorry to sound a bit down. It's just that after 6 weeks of increasing hell with my Hero, sorry, Halfwit, I'm really, really missing my Touch Pro2.
1. Phantom Screen Flipping: No one knows the solution to this problem. My home screen now constantly flips to the right. In fact, any screen with an option causes erratic flipping (contact screen, email screen, menu screen etc). It's worse than a landed fish.
2. Random Battery Draining: Usually my Halfwit lasts a full day. Sometimes, though it drains within an hour, for no apparent reason.
3. Ringtone Madness: A couple of days ago I took a call. The call was instantly dropped. But the ringtone kept going. And going. And going.
4. Dropped Calls: probably 3 in 10 calls are dropped, either coming in and going out.
And just to be a little unfair, (but I feel justified): Sense. I've given up switching between "Home", "Office", "Travel", and so on. I could make breakfast in the time it takes to change.
Like I say, I know the entire Universe has had an excellent experience with the Halfwit, so before I return it, can anyone suggest a reasonably polite solution?
You could try flashing the new rom (again) to make sure that process went well.
If the problems consist send it back to htc cos it's not normal to have all these problems.
Yes, to have some many of these non standard issues at the same time, you must have a faulty unit.
I have never heard of a Hero behaving like that. Send it back and get a new one!

Take that thing back and get one that works! That stinks you've had so many problems, definitely not normal or acceptable. It's a great phone, sounds like you got a lemon.
Sounds like a software malfunction or maybe your device could have liquid damage in it.. Not sure though, you should take it back to the store!

Why does it "Wake Up"? How to stop it?

Hello:
With the oem Sprint ROM, and with the additional ROMs I have found here and flashed, my device still "wakes up" constantly for no reason.
What causes this?
Is there any way to disable it?
More information: What I mean by "wake up" is it goes from a black screen, to a fully back-lit screen (my home). It either 1) Waits the normal timeout, then the back-light fades out to the darker version. And then finally off again. Or 2) turns on for 10 seconds, and turns off (when locked usually).
I want to stop this. To maximize battery, but mostly to keep from distracting me - thinking "Oh, a new message? Someone trying to call?" etc. Especially annoying in movie theaters or watching movies late at night, or playing online games and waiting for a txt on the meetups (yes, I have died once or twice while looking down at the phone when it "lit up" for no reason).
I understand the device wakes up for unread emails, text, etc. Which, I have none of (they are all read). I understand it wakes up for missed calls (that have gone unchecked), new voice mails, etc.
But none of those hold true. Everything is read. There are no missed calls or VMs, etc. Been like this for well over a year and with multiple flashes.
Just saw this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=678522
To answer the questions already there:
To answer the questions above:
No, I do not have bluetooth on.
I have a strong 3-bar signal at all times (3 bars under WM 6.5). The ANT is less than 500 feet from me, up on a water tower. My phone even has a clear line-of-sight to the ANT!!! So, it isn't switching radios (that I know of).
Stupid question: maybe you received an email or text?
Not quite related, when my phone is at low battery, it wakes itself up to beep at me and tell me I should conserve power. Dumb phone.
Nevermind the question. Missed what you said in the OP.
This is what happens when you don't have enough coffee in the morning, people. Or have half a brain.

What is your most significant problem with the EVO 3D?

I like my EVO 3D but realize it isn't perfect however some things may be fixable via an update.
Since some barely talk on their phone and use text while other barely text etc. I'm curious what effects the most people?
I've experienced a few of the items listed but not all. I'll admit even if the picture quality isn't great I use my phone so infrequently it won't really bother me ever but I thought I'd include the most common issues people post about.
Mine is the speaker phone. I don't make many "real" calls, but I do make about 10 or 15 calls to automated systems a day. I have enter strings of 24 digits at a rip then listen to what the system says. It's so much easier on speaker phone but a lot of times I have hold the speaker up to my ear to hear them. I've used equalizer, but really the phone just needs a bigger speaker.
I have my gf set the alarms in am on her cheap prepaid phone because that thing is twice as loud as my mega superphone.
Everything else will be fixed with cm7!
Camera freezing after taking a photo. The issue is rather random and I never had the issue before applying the OTA. I'm willing to wager that another software update can patch this.
Battery life was a huge issue for me till I got the Airrave. I think this is caused by the reception problem on this phone. So I'd probably say the choppy call quality (or lack there of) is the biggest issue next to dropped calls for me. These may all be related but since I bought a phone I would think that is what they'd make sure works properly.

use QPST to raise the volume, there is a post around here showing you how to do it.
My biggest problem with the EVO3D would have to be the *****ing that seems to follow it everywhere.
My biggest problem is no problems.
The only issue I have had is the GPS jumping all over the place, I *think* mostly when it is plugged in to the charger at the same time. Haven't seen a lot of talk about it, so this is what it does.
I can be going down the interstate at 75, no turn for 75 miles, and it will start telling to turn right, turn left, turn left, back on interstate for 75 miles. Then 10 seconds later it jumps me over to random road 1/2 mile away and tells me to turn, turn, turn, turn, then continue on for 74 miles. Etc. It happens in any nav program, Sygic, Google nav, telenav, etc. So it has to be hardware related, and seems to happen the most when it is plugged in to the car charger at the same time?? Anyone else?
Brew
It is interesting to see the results. I would think the choppy phone quality would be numer one but it is clear the speaker volume is the more common concern?
Would any of you be willing to say if the speaker problem is a bigger issue for phone calls or for other functions e.g. games/videos etc.
Were is the option for nothing
My GPS is flawless and I've never had it reboot on me once.
Everything else listed is a problem though.
Calls drop, constant 3g-4g switching even though I have a stronger 4g signal, overheating after about 5 minutes of playing any game or media file, low volume...and sometimes just a flat out unresponsive touch interface (doesn't respond to touching certain areas of the screen...sometimes).
Hey, it's a great gps but a chud stain phone.

Just switched to the 3d from the OG EVO... One thing jumps out to me is the ringers, notifications, movie/video playback etc is super duper low compared to the first evo and I don't wanna sound like a noob but the font size on the apps are smaller oh and call quality is bad, some of my contacts are linking with the wrong names, the wallpaper has a cropping bug and i still get the sense crash from time to time, but with all that said its still a better phone that my OG EVO
S/N: battery life is a bit better but Im still going to purchase a extended battery

Smaller text is due to a larger resolution right?
For me it's definitely either the cellular/data radio or sprints (lack of) service. At home I get on average of 1-2 bars and at work, 0 (no service) - 1 bars. Makes for extremely piss poor battery life as well as extremely delayed and troublesome texts/calls/notifications.
Hmmm let's see no s-off
Wait a minute we have it now and like 9 roms to go with it all problems with is phone are officially fixed

Once you create a poll, you can't edit or add to it.
My only prob is that I can't get the phone out of my hand.
Locked & Loaded
I'm hoping an xda developer figures a way to fix some of these items so we don't have to wait for HTC to figure them out. The things I'd love as a priority for an xda version would be better signal/call quality and tethering.
Problems? We dont have no stinkin problems! The Evo 3D has worked perfectly for me so far (6 more days on 30 day return...)
You want problems, move to T-Mo and buy a G2x!

Radar vs Neo - a newcomer's view

Just my two bob's worth... I recently "inherited" an HTC Radar on Orange UK that I was happy to try out against my solid and usable unbranded SE Neo on Android 2.3.4 (stock rooted 0.62 F/W for reference).
So, the Neo is 5 months old and is as reliable as my need to pass water after a few pints. Being factory unlocked, updates are easy and battery life is very good indeed, with bloatware a breeze to remove. Great phone and my 4th Android, but first SE.
After 10 days or so with the Radar, what's my early view? Mixed, and here's why.
NOTE: I am NOT knocking the phone!
The phone needed to be updated to 7740 from 7720; because it told me. Zune installed on the PC and job done. I did a full reset before just to make sure no dregs were left behind, which is always Good Practice.
I then set about removing the Orange bumf, like Orange Maps and Orange Wednesdays. Easy - just press and go. Nice.
Once I'd orientated myself with the OS and Metro, I popped my 3 UK daily SIM in and started using the phone in anger.
Funny #1 - switched off the phone to charge it from the mains - the phone booted. And always does. Weird.
Funny #2 - no "notification" LED at all. The power charge LED lights orange while charging and green once charged. But no notification LED. Inconvenient in meetings.
Funny #3 - No navigation with the maps app. No matter what I do, I cannot get voice or map nav. And the screen turns off. I installed "GPS Voice Navigation" and "GPS ON Navigation" and neither do that either. I can get the map to follow my movements, but the map is not full screen - rather too small and no autozoom. But at least I can keep the screen on.
Funny #4 - Not easy to completely silence the phone. Vibrate is quite "loud" and without turning it off by going through shedloads of settings, it's just not convenient.
Funny #5 - Volume control is just bizarre - if I turn the volume down while listening to music, the ringtone is also turned down. No independence. Caught me out a few times with missed calls.
Funny #6 - Screen brightness. Auto doesn't go down anything like far enough and the low manual setting is pathetic. 3 set levels is not granular enough, and auto should be just that - and full range. How long have HTC been making phones?
Funny #7 - The phone bleeps some kind of notification sometimes, but I cannot tell what has caused it. Messages and Emails are fine because of the tiles, but wtf was that then? Missed something, just don't know what.
Funny #8 - Smileys. How am I supposed to know what all the textual characters are? Why not show me the actual Smiley? Jeez.
Funny #9 - WiFi only reconnects 9 times out of 10. Bit basic? Sensitivity is good though. When it decides to reconnect.
Funny #10 - everyone says it - no SD card slot....
Funny #11 - Bluetooth, er, er, er.... might be me, but seems "variable".
Funny #12 - why does some of the notification bar content disappear? Only the time remains visible.... why??
Pain #1 - cannot flash/debrand/root/sideload...
Additionally, the phone signal is weak; on the same network, in the same places, I get signal dropout regularly. Never before. The FM radio sensitivity, again like for like, is awful. Tried different headsets in case the "antenna" was dross, but no go. Near a transmitter, fine. In the real world, not good at all.
Don't get me wrong, its a well made phone and the OS is smooth and fluid. More so than (Neo) Android, given the similar hardware spec. Superior screen too - it's amazing what a difference 0.1" makes, really. As a phone, provided it holds the signal, calls are clear. BUT, the hardware/firmware is rather lacking in terms of basic smartphone convenience features. Plus the OS has some unfortunate usability misses.
Compared with the Neo, it is still a work in progress. I shall keep it, I think, and wait for both OS and particularly HTC updates (please HTC, soon!).
I'm happy to be corrected or directed on any of the above. I would like nothing more than to enjoy the phone fully, and rely on it. I've not tried everything yet, like the alarm, but will do.
Decided to sell after all - not matured enough for me!

5.1.1, some features are very laggy (phone, clock, notifications), why?

Hello guys,
I hope you can help me with this so please, read on. I am trying out 5.1.1 (CM 12.1) for a few weeks but I can't shake the feeling that something is wrong in my particular case.
I am running this version of CM12.1. No custom kernels, no kernel editing at all. I am running Nova Launcher. I have a 64GB external microSD card, which is half full and my internal storage has 3.8 GB of space left.
My issues are with the responsiveness. For example I have issues taking calls. It goes like this, if the screen is off (phone locked):
-caller hears one or sometimes even two rings
-my phone starts vibrating
-after one second or so my phone starts actually "ringing" with sound
-after two-three seconds the screen goes on and I am able to take the call
By that time the caller already has heard four or five rings and after the sixth one the mailbox kicks in. This is terrible. If the screen is on, the issue is nearly gone, since the phone is much more responsive.
My buddy's HTC ONE vibrates, rings and enables screen INSTANTLY when a call comes in. Yes, he has a stronger phone but I'd think the most basic function would always work.
I get similiar issues with timers, notifications etc. They feel "delayed", first the vibration, then the sound, then the screen. Looking at a black screen for 5 seconds while the timer is beeping crazy is not very nice.
The phone feels fine otherwise, some apps (Open Camera) take long to open up but I guess that's just the old age of the hardware. My main problems are with the core functions (phone...).
I like lollipop, especially ART, but I am thinking of going back to CM11, since it felt a bit more responsive and I had no troubles getting calls.
I am glad about any help I can get. Thanks in advance guys. XDA rocks.:fingers-crossed:
