I have been pointed around to many different places as to where I shouldbe posting. My phone isthe telus samsung galaxy s fascinate as you can see my exact model in my signature.
Anyhow my main reason for posting was I was wondering if there is an alternative to having no led light as in refrence to notifications such as sms, email etc.. Is there any aps to make the menu key or anything like that flash when you have an unread text as a led normally would? I have tried noled app and I dont like how it works, eapecially because I use launcher pro plus and lockbot pro..Any input would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks, mike.

Market app. "NoLed"
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.
the one i preferred the best, but the kernel is unstable at times is the UniversalLAgFix with backlight notification. doesn't have different colors for each notification like NoLed. just another choice for ya.
The TW port of the ulv kernel had a softkey backlight notification feature. I suspect it will become standard.

I use "missed message flasher" works great. All it does is blink the screen when you get a missed call, sms, or e-mail.

Thanks a lot for the tips guys!

IMHO no led works best. So many settings to save battery

I only found one so far that works. Its called "LED me know BETA"
You need to disable compatibility mode and it works.
Any others? Would be nice if I could change google voice notification light but guess that's not too possible. Gah they really need to improve their app

Check out Light Flow, simply awesome and all-inclusive.

I remember using Missed Call awhile back
I don't use it anymore and just stick with the stock colors
but it worked well for me
Does anyone know how to get the number of messages to show next to the contact's name in the stock SMS/MMS app? Thanks in advance.

I do not see an option for it, which leads me to believe that you will have to use a 3rd party SMS app if you want that feature.
Hey! try usin go sms or handcent sms from the market!
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
I would defiantly give handcent a go its got some pretty good extras also like multicoloured notification LED light depending on event and also you can show a SMS when the screen is locked for quick reply.
Well that's the thing, I meant without a third-party app, like it is on stock Android. I've had Go SMS, but I prefer to have notification icons that actually match with the app, I guess.

I've already made a request for a toggle between charge and recovery mode...now im requesting the use of the different led colors we have for notifications. I found an app called "led tester" which shows all the colors as being available and I use "missed call reminder" which allows me to use those colors for missed calls but nothing else. I would really like to be able to program which color led is for which notification. Thanks again
Try light flow in the market. Customize notifications and led colors

I'll second that recommendation. I tried Light Flow and found it was highly customizable.
My only problem was it does not play nice if you use Handcent, as of Oct 20th, 2011. Things may have changed since though.
Android Market (Lite Version|Full Version)
I also use light flow, unfortunately it doesn't work well for my calendar notifications, but I still use it because its the best I've found so far.

I hate how my screen turns on when I receive an sms message. I only need the notification icon in the taskbar and the led blink and if I disable the notifications from the settings the screen does not open but I loose the other notifications as well. Any ways to fix this?

interested in that too
Don't know if it's possible with the stock app, however if you're willing to use a 3rd party app, Go SMS does have an option to keep the screen off and quite possibly other apps do too.

switch to HANDCENT SMS, it is the best sms app, i am using it for a year now. Go to setting and disable pop-up. Now when you receive a message, it will vibrate, led will blink, but screen will not turn on. You will ses the message in the notification bar.

That's what I'm using right now but I want to minimize the use of third party apps as much as possible . Plus with handcent sms when I send a picture or video it doesn't work. I have to use the regular messaging app in order for my mms to leave successfully .

Still no solution for this one. I don't want to use handcent or go sms for two reasons. First I like the simplicity if the stock samsung app and second I use the direct call feature that only works with stock app. There must be a way to hack the default messaging app to stock opening the screen when receiving a message.

BUMP. This feature is sooooo annoying!!!!
It irritates me also. I've used Handcent on every device in the past, but I don't want to for some reason on this one. I actually rather like the stock messaging app.
I suppose I'll go back to Handcent. The screen on is annoying, plus it creates a temporary wakelock that drains the battery even more.

Turn off notifications and use an app like light flow.
Use a different MMS app.
Many ways to skin a cat here.

This.
I use Handcent and there is an option in settings to set the "Do Not Wake Screen" setting.
You need to go into your stock SMS app settings and uncheck notification options though.
As suggested by another user, turn off notifications in the sms app. Download an app called sms popup in the play store. Go into that app. Disable the popup notification. Set the rest of the settings such as the notification icon, notification sound, etc. With all that done, you essentially have the stock app behaving the way you want. I've been rocking this solution along with light manager for a few weeks and it's flawless.
