Hi!
I was wondering whether there is a way to sort my contacts by last name. It seems that everything it sorts is by first name. The fields are ok, all in the respective order and Google contacts shows them just fine.
Can anyone help, please?

Hi
I got my hero last week and i'm loving it at the moment. I want to back up all my contacts to my google account to make them easy to manage and for back up reasons. For some reason though when the phone syncs it doesn't load my existing contacts(carried onto my hero by sim from my old diamond) into my google contacts?
If I create a new contact on either phone or pc it updates the other accordingly but i just cant get my existing contacts to my google contacts.
I can see the ones that update are labeled as google contacts so i'm guessing i have to label my exisisting ones somehow???
Someone please help as i dont want to have to create all my contacts again
Thanks in advance

Ok, there is a piece of software on the market which moves contacts from "Phone" to "Google". I'm just googleing to see what it is as I can't remember.
Not sure how effective it is, haven't tried it as I've always synced my contacts to google even on WinMo.
Actually, have you tried doing it that way 1st? Set your Diamond to have an ActiveSync with google (m.google.com) and use your google user id and password. This will send all the contacts from your phone to google. Then sync your Hero.
I can't find the program at the minute (10 minutes of looking) but I'm sure its in this Hero forum somewhere about it. Will have another look in a bit
Hi all,
I just updated to 2.1 generic following some advice from this place (thank you very much).
However, now I have a problem with my contacts - not all of them are showing in the phone book.
If I go to my dialer or to my messages, there are names listed there as being the ones that I communicated with, but they are missing from the phonebook itself somehow. I have added new names and they show, but the old ones are hidden.
Any ideas as to how I can fix this?
EDIT - I have realised that the hidden contacts are classed as Google Contacts while the ones I can see, have added now are phone contacts. Any idea how to move the Google contacts into the Phone contacts list? (I also dislike the idea of Google managing all my contacts - too late to do anything about that, but any little thing away from giving it total information is a good thing IMO)
hey all, by far not a noob when it comes to flashing and roms
but this restoring process is kicking my ass pretty bad, really it's just the contacts part... almost all of my contacts have FB's so I link them with my address book. restoring the contacts was no prob but is there any way to restore the FB links when flipping between roms?
I run into this same problem with certain contacts every time I flash a rom, and I dont believe there is a way to have the link of the two contacts saved. Is your probem with every contact or just some?
The links that stay for me are the ones that the facebook contact has a matching phone number attached to the profile. Maybe try to check if the phone numbers match.
You're right, those contacts with the same number on FB get linked automatically. But they are only 2 out of 300 who published their number on FB.
Well before I flashed the new rom, I exported the contacts to .vcf-data to my SD. I opened the exported .vcf with all my contacts info in it with a texteditor and saw, that the FB link also gets exported:
Code:
...
BEGIN:VCARD
VERSION:2.1
N:Mustermann;Max;;;
FN:Max Mustermann
TEL;CELL;PREF:+436641234567
NOTE:<HTCData><Facebook>id:123456789/friendof:1234567890</Facebook></HTCData>
END:VCARD
...
So I thought OK, no prob, they will get gestored when I import it again. Nope! There were absolutely no links (only the 2, who have same number on FB).
But I was curious and exported the contacts (with no FB links displayed) again and saw that the FB-Tag was still there.
So the links ARE in the contacts database, but the Contacts App does not really recognize it.
Today I saw, that some of my contacts got automatically linked again. Wondering, I tried to find points in common and found out, that they all have updated their status recently. So my suppose is, that if the system-app "Facebook for HTC Sense" get a new status-feed from a friend, it checks if the friend is linked with one of your contacts on the phone (it is due the tag) and puts the status to this contact. Due to this procedure, the FB link gets "refreshed" and shows up again.
But thats not really a solution - it would last years until all my contacts would get refreshed again.
THE solution would be a little batch, refreshing the existing FB links of all contacts.
Hello,
(I have already searched about this on forum, but didn't get a proper answer. So I am writing it down here.)
I have an issue with the "people" (contact) app of ICS.
I am being asked to make an account to make contact groups, which unfortunately I can't allow!
I can understand that you might not think this being an issue but can you please suggest about making
offline contact groups without making an account.
I hope you guys will help.
I am running on rooted phone with cyanogen mod.
Thank you.
I used an app called "Import Contacts" to import a .vcf file from my previous phone on gingerbread to the new one running 4.2.1.
This app imported it into local contacts.
But, if you want to manually add a new contact, you are still left facing the same problem.
I haven't figured a way around it.

Thank you for your help.
I already have contacts installed.
My issue is with creating groups from them.
As phone asks to create an account to do so.
That's where I am stuck.
I mean there must be a way to make contact groups without adding an account!
I really wish to have that option.
This is something I have never thought about as I am sure that most of us out there using android phones usually create an account in order to do what you can't... but I have to admit that it would be really great if creating contact groups without internet can be possible!
Found anything yet, anyone?
Hi!
I just came across this thread through Google when searching "use groups without google account". I think it's ridiculous to need a Google account to use use groups, I mean, it's a feature that has been on most "not even smart" phones for a while now. It would be really good to know if there's a way to have groups without creating / adding an account and without the need of third party apps.
Does anyone have a solution for this?
Thanks
Hello!
I have the Samsung Galaxy SII - GT-I9100 model, running unmodified Android 4.0.3 and whenever I make a change to any contact on my phone (it's marked as a Google Contact, btw), it stays that way until I synchronize my account with google, when the contact will then be reverted to the way it is on Google.
I have no idea what's wrong and it has been like this ever since I bought the phone. If I go to my Google account and change a contact through the web, my cell phone will sync and bring the changes from the google server, but the opposite (pushing changes to the server) won't happen.
All my contacts are orgnized and stored in the "My contacts" group. My contacts application is showing only the contacts on the google account, so there's no conflict with any contacts that might be stored locally on the phone (I've deleted all the phone and SIM contacts just to make sure nothing like that gets in the way).
I'd appreciate any help you guys could provide. I'm not willing to root or install any other ROM on this phone, I'd like to keep it stock for several reasons, warranty being one of the most important.
Thank you very much!
I just updated the Android version to Jelly Bean 4.2.2 and uninstalled any contacts manager I might have had (Go Contacts Ex) and tried again, but to no avail.
Anyone else with the same problem? Does this have anything to do with the "My Contacts" group on Google Contacts? All these contacts are stored in that group. I haven't changed since I organized all my contacts when I bought the phone.
If anyone could help, I'd pay you a beer (or a dozen, perhaps).
Thanks!
This thread is probably dead by now, and i'm not sure if anybody has figured out a solution to this issue. However i did find an intermediate solution with an app called "InTouchAPP" available in the playstore. It is an alternative solution to going through google's server in saving contacts. It integrates seamlessly with your phone, and you sign up for a username and password so you may never lose your contacts again.
I was having an issue in which i would save a new number and name it. Seconds later the name of the number would disappear. I tried going to directly to gmail.com and adding a contact and it would work. My only explanation was that my phone was not pushing information to the google server however google server was constantly overriding any new numbers i added on my phone.
If anybody has a better solution please share.
Best Regards,
Jonathan
