I sent in my x10a to get repaired and they sent me a new phone because it was "defective". Anyway, I live in Toronto, ON. I got the original phone from Rogers. The weird thing is that when I boot up the new x10 that I got, it says AT&T instead of the ugly Rogers boot screen.
I'm planning to unlock my phone so. Is there any other way to check whether my phone is locked by AT&T or Rogers? Besides putting a Rogers SIM card in and checking?

Howdy folks,
I have an AT&T Motorola Atrix that was running 2.2.2 and now has 2.3.4. The problem has been when I brought my Atrix over to Japan I put in the incorrect unlock code and now it appears to be hard locked.
Now, I'm back in the US and put my AT&T SIM card back into the device and it's still asking me for the unlock code. The Atrix won't connect automatically or manually to the AT&T or T-Mobile networks even though both show up as a selection for the phone.
I've tried soft, hard and complete wipes of the device and I'm still at the same point where I left off. I'm on my backup iPhone and things are painful being away from android! Does anybody have any ideas that might help get this fixed?
tried Cellunlock.net and they were unable to get the unlock code saying it was not in the Rogers Database, Called Rogers and even they said the IMEI was not in their system.
Phone is from Rogers, want to unlock it to use on Virgin Mobile Canada, but unable to do it.
any ideas on where I can go from here to get this phone to work on my Carrier.
anything I can do via Root?
hmm the phone is not in their database? that sounds super odd, are you sure the phone is rogers? like sure? does it have the rogers crappy bloatware installed? I suppose you dont really know if the phone is rogers unless you actually bought it from them. (ie someone could have just installed rogers rom on it if you bought it off someone)
Ive unlocked s iii's from like every major carrier (telus, bell , rogers) never had a problem. You might want to try getting the code off someone on ebay too.
edit- also as far as my knowledge there is no root free unlock like there was on the s i and sii phones. so you are stuck with the code (for now anyway)
good luck
It was for sure a rogers phone. Ended up going to a different site and they unlocked the phone for me.
thanks for your help
I've had my Atrix for a year, now someone wants to buy it from me. Considering Motorola has given us the middle finger more than once, this will be my last Moto phone, and I'll sell my phone.
The thing is, I'm on a certain network (TELCEL) and my friend wants to use it with MoviStar.
I bought this phone brand new from my boss. I believe he got it as a gift from a Motorola rep (he got the entire deal - both docks and the phone). I do not know whether the phone is locked or not. I don't know how to find if it is or not.
I've unlocked the bootloader and am currently running CM10. I'll downgrade to stock 2.3 before I give the phone to my friend.
How can I check if the phone is unlocked and whether he can use it on another network? I have no clue and don't know anyone who has a MoviStar SIM. I would like to give him the phone knowing that it'll work..
Thanks!
Don't know if this helps, but-
If I search for other networks, I can see MoviStart without an issue.
I tried typing #073887* on the dial screen and nothing happens.
Perhaps it's already unlocked?
Put any other sim in it and see if it works. If its unlocked it will.
Unlocking bootloader etc doesn't remove network lock btw.

Thanks... I can't easily find anyone with a MoviStar chip. As a matter of fact, my friend is the only one I know that uses that network! I'll have to go to MoviStar and ask for a SIM to try, I guess.
It doesn't need to be that specific one, just any other SIM card will do.
I got an HTC One from AT&T back in June and immediately unlocked it. It worked fine with T-Mobile prepaid for a month, but the coverage sucked. I went back to AT&T prepaid.
I got a new Nexus 5 and am selling the One.
When the guy came to buy it, he popped in his T-Mobile SIM and the phone asked for a PIN on boot. What gives? Did the phone re-lock itself? AT&T customer service seemed pretty clueless on this...

It appears that his T-Mobile SIM card has the pin lock enabled, has nothing to do with your phone. It requires the SIM pin code to be enabled any time it's inserted into a phone.
Once your phone is carrier unlocked it will never re-lock itself.

I don't think that's true. I had a SGS2 i777 (AT&T) that I got AT&T to give me the unlock code. My son was using it on T-Mo prepaid. Once he put the sim in an old phone and try to set a passwd, but ended up locking the sim card. Put the sim back in the SGS2 and had the same problem. Called T-Mobile to get the PUC code. Typed the PUC code in, and the SGS2 gave a message about sim locked. Called AT&T again, and had to get the sim unlock code again.
My wife's iphone 4 had been unlocked previously, and a few month later had to call at&t again to unlock it. Don't know what caused the re-lock (she never used non-AT&T sim after the 1st unlock), but it can happen.
Hey I bought a galaxy s3 off someone at university, it has the optus logo when booting up and I was told it was a optus phone, I got a new optus sim put it in and its saying the handset has been locked by optus, so its been stolen i guess and I guess the seller wont give me my money back... So am i able to unlock the phone or is it screwed or can i unlock the phone from the optus network and use another phone provider?
Contact the network and ask them if they will unlock it for you. Blacklisted IMEI is something entirely different from sim lock, nothing you can do in that case (or even ask about).
