what is the procedure to ensure everything clean before ROM flash - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

To all experienced Custom ROM installers,
I have a rooted vibrant, during the holidays I performed my first custom ROM flashing
During these days, I installed and re-installed a stock and custom ROMS a number of times. I think I got remmants of ROMS that I installed.
I want to go back to the stock android 2.1 JI6. I have a rom manager backup before I installed the custom rom
What is the procedure for a good wipe to ensure that the system is clean before I flash the stock t-mo vibrant 2.1 JI6 ROM ?
thanks

Reverting back to stock through Odin is more preferable. But if you're going to nand restore a stock 2.1 via clockwork, then you MUST flash a 2.1 kernel or any 2.1 custom rom that has the stock kernel. I'm not sure wether you flash the stock kernel beforehand or after the nand restore. But yeah, if you're currently on a 2.2 rom, revert that kernel to stock 2.1 before restoring the 2.1 stock nand or risk soft bricking your device!

thank you for the tip.
That is why when I restore my ROM manager backup (which was a 2.1 nackup) it froze and will ot boot. I will try restoring the 2.1 kernel first before restoring the backup

make sure the 2.2 rom you're using is compatible with a 2.1 kernel coz that will soft brick too

can you or can you not?

so i installed obsidian v5 beta yesterday nd also did a nandroid back nd titanium backup but i have a question since i have 2.1 stock build of samsumg vibrant backed up can i do a revert back to that build cuz i think i heard some where that you cant revert back if you have 2.2 froyo??
If you restore your nandroid backup, you also have to flash an appropriate 2.1 kernel. Nandroid doesn't backup your kernel, so if you tried to restore your nandroid backup only, you'd have a soft-brick. So long as you also flash a 2.1 kernel, you should be fine.
dhyanabad (thanks in nepali)
ummm would you possibly know how to flash a 2.1 kernel?
^ I put it in the sticky on how to flash, and there is a link to the 2.1 kernel you need. Shortcut is in my signature.
thank youu
so
1. i do a nandroid restore
2. download pakages nd select the vibrant stock kernel
right

MD5 Sums Mistmatch? 2.2

I recently flashed FroyoCollab with ULF kernel applied a lagfix, then decided to restore an old ROM using CWM recovery... So I disabled the lagfix via clockwork, then when I go to restore it says MD5 Sums mismatch...
Any fix for this?
Can I ODIN back to stock or will that cause problems as I'm not totally sure if that would work.
I first began with the voodoo lagfix in cwm then went back and changed it to overkill, then went back again and disabled all my lagfixes.
EDIT: Ok I ODIN'd, however, I flashed to Fusion 2.1 and now my apps don't reinstall when I use TB?? WHy?
I don't think backups store the kernel I could be wrong though odin to stock should work
V5 custom vibrant
Cwr will not backup kernel so you will have to Odin to stock

Flash the stock 2.1 kernel first, then restore.
Or flash a new rom that includes a kernel.

ClockworkMod Recovery restore

Hey guys, I made a backup with clockworkmod before I flashed Nero. Now I want to return to stock to try the official Froyo. I tried to restore my backup via Rom Manager, but after my phone booted the only thing on the screen is the status bar and "searching" and the date. The phone keeps refreshing once in a while but I can't do anything with my phone. I disabled voodoo before I flashed the backup. Is it supposed to take this long on the first boot? Any help would be appreciated.
When going from a 2.2 build back to a stock 2.1 build, you have to flash a 2.1 kernel at the same time. Your backup doesn't include the stock kernel.
You will have to use odin.

[Q] Switch between roms

I was wondering, if im using the CM3.4 i can change to the stock 2.1 i have installed, and how do i do that?
So you have a backup of 2.1 on your phone for xRecovery, correct? If not, you'll have to use SEUS to reinstall 2.1 from scratch. Back up your CM ROM first though so you can go back to it later if you want.
If so, just backup your CM ROM with xRecovery, then just do the usual wipes before installing a ROM and then restore your 2.1 backup and you're back to 2.1 and you are able to switch back to the CM ROM if you want.

[Q] CWR Backup

I'm thinking of Odin back to a 2.2 ROM from Miui. But I can't remember if the CWR back-up of my Project V contains the Kernel as well? I'm wondering if I can just Odin back to stock. and run the back-up or if I need to Odin back to stock, and flash Proj V and start over with the individual tweaks I put in????
does not have kernel, but you should be able to odin back to stock, boot in CWR, flash a 2.2 kernel, and then restore your backup
