Hi guys,
I've searched for this everywhere but still can't seem to find the answer so I apologise if its already been covered.
I would like to set a .wav or .mp3 file to be my text message alert but am unable to do so, I can't seem to copy the file into the folder with all the other alerts and the options in the text alert page only let me download more from HTC!
Does anyone know how to do this?
Sorry but I'm a 3 day old noob with Android... still too disappointed with WP7 to buy one :-(
Thanks guys,
Terry.

Download Ringdroid from the Market.
You can create alarms, notifications, ringtones etc out of any .mp3 file.
That's great, does it give the function to implement the text alert as well or just create the .mp3 file?
It's the implementation of the file as a text alert that's leading me.

Hi to all members! I would just like to share to you the ring tone I'm using on my xda. Kinda different from all other ring tones commonly used. Here I used Windows XP Speech module program (in Control Panel, you'll find this menu). Go to Text to Speech tab and just type in any message you want, and let the computer speak for you. Just use Windows Recorder or any other sound recording program (i.e. Nero Wave Editor) to capture the digital voice generated. Enhance the sound and save it as .WAV file. You can download the sample Uhhh, planning to attach the sound file (my ring tone) but, there seems to be no option for attachment. Anyway, after you created voice ring tones, load this as your ring tone, when you receive incoming calls, your friends will be surprised and think they're at the Airport (something like "paging Mr......, you have an incoming call").
On the other hand--the SMSExport I installed in my xda doesn't seemed to work..it cannot even "see" my previous and new text messages. Is there any other way I can export my SMS text messages to computer (possibly upload using ActiveSynch), so I can have them printed or archive to disk? Tried also, Message Master Client Server, however it can't transmit SMS using SIM card install (or the xda radio system itself). You have to use an external phone (via infrared) to transmit SMS. Anybody can help us out on this?
Finally, I still have other things to share, but I cannot dig them out from my hard disk...perhaps next time..
Regards to all!
Mel

Use the app "Tone Picker - MP3 Ringtones" from market (free), then go and set ringtone for notification noise, and choose the MP3 using Tone Picker
No idea about the other bit.
Thanks mate but this app still doesn't allow me to choose a dedicated tone for email.
Surely its a bloody basic feature to be able to select ringtones, alerts from my files.....I could do it on a basic Nokia years ago!

On the root of your SD create a folder called "media". Inside that, create "audio". Inside that put folders called "alarms", "notifications" and "ringtones" . then put your mp3s in your relevent folders,... then you should be able to find them when trying to select them.

The easiest way is probably to use a file manager. For example, if you have Astro installed, just long-press the mp3 file and select Music Options > Set as Ringtone.
Alternatively you can make one folder: Media>Audio>Alarms>Notifications>Ringtones
Put all your mp3 files here and you can assign them as alarms, sms tones or ringtones.

Which mail app are you using? I am on Froyd 1.1.1 right now, which uses vanilla mail. When I open settings, I can pick my ringtone for the Email notification. So then I install tonepicker, and when I open this menu, I am asked what I want to choose tone with. I choose tonepicker, and then it lets me pick an MP3 or whatever I want
If you tell us what type of email account it is, we can see what you need to do...
Hello all, I am wondering if I can have select notification/message tones for my Razr 912. I know how to select ringtones for people, but can it be done for the other. I am NOT rooted, and have OTA 4.0.4
I did use the search, and didnt see the question asked for the Razr. Links and advise are greatly appreciated or an answer telling me why I cant do it would end this curiosity.
Thanks in advance
Questions belong in Q&A
Are you talking about distinct notification tones for each app (like one tone for email, another for Facebook, another for texts, etc.) or for different people (like one tone when this person texts me and another tone for when that person texts me)?

I think this is the Q&A forum. Anyway. You can set a distinct notification for each app by going into their settings. As far as contacts go I use Ringo lite from play. You can set individual ringtones and notifications for each contact.

If you install 'rings extended' https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.angryredplanet.android.rings_extended&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS5hbmdyeXJlZHBsYW5ldC5hbmRyb2lkLnJpbmdzX2V4dGVuZGVkIl0.
and then go back in to gmail etc.. you will have the option to use rings extended then choose 'select music (rings) you can choose any file on your phone to set as your ring tones
or
install zedge and then download any tones etc.. from there and you have an option again to set it
Hi,
Can someone please tell me how I can set different ringtones for text messages and emails on this phone please?
I can't find the option in any of the settings but surely it can be done??
Thanks
In root create folder and name it Media. Then inside create subfolders called Ringtone, Alarm, Notification and transfer desired tunes. Then in Setting- Tones choose your tune.

Another option, if you use Handcent SMS app, you can change text message tone in notification settings on Handcent.
For phone ringtone copy the tone u want to use to the ringtone folder on your internal SD card. For email/ messages copy the required tone to the Notifications folder on your internal SD card, u may need to reboot your phone.

Thanks for all your help. It's only taken me two months!
I want to know how to assign a custom tone for text messages to a specific contact thanks for those who can help.

With the stock messaging app, I don't think is possible. Your best bet may be a messaging app from the market. I've never used one, so hopefully someone else chimes in. That would be useful.
Havent seen anything myselfthat lets u assigne a specific tone to a contact for text messages only ringtones for callers....if you do find some something I'd like to know too :good:
I use Ringo, it had a bug, where if u used a song on external Sd card then mounted as storage it would stop working, so I reccomend using a tone on ur internal sd.
Tasker can also do custom txt tones
