i wouldnt recommend using ROM manager but if you have amon recovery theres a nand backup & restore for those purposes under the backup and restore tab.

Yes, just use the Amon Recovery, which you're probably using, to flash update.zip from the SD card. update.zip is put there by ROM Manager and will take you to Clockwork Mod Recovery. From there you can access the NAND backups you told it to make from ROM Manager. If you're talking about deleting old NAND backups from Recovery, not exactly, but you can mount your SD card through USB from recovery (easier in Amon RA, but can be done via an option in one of the menus in Clockwork Mod, too) and then "manage" the files from Windows.

First install his rom then connect your phone to your computer and mount. Then put the rom in the internel SD card the one without avatar. Don't rename the file. Then boot into recovery and reinstall packages twice. Then you will be in clockwork wipe factory reset and cache. Then go to install zip from SD card, then choose zip from SD card and find the rom. What is the point of making a backup? I mean, you can always go to stock using odin and the JFD tar and pit.
Is backup just to save all your personal files, pics, music, etc?

I have heard this over and over. I only have one question that I could not find anywhere. Do you need to rename the "Ginger_Clone_Final_R2.zip" to update.zip? Everytime I reboot into recovery and try and get ti to install, I get the same message over and over; something to the effect of package not found. Thanks

you don't rename it. maybe your choosing the update zip from sd. it should be choose zip file from sd card then you choose the custom rom you're flashing.

Yea, thanks. I thought that was what I am supposed to do. I don't have that option though. When I reboot into recovery (through ROM Manager or on my own) I only have the STOCK recovery options. For some reason, the Clockworkmod options are not showing up. I noticed this about a month ago. I will have to try and figure that out first. Thanks again.

Have you flashed clockwork recovery from rom manager? If so, when you get into stock recovery just hit reinstall packages to get to cwm. You may have to do that twice to get it to work. If it still doesnt work try reflashing cwm from rom manager.

I had been doing everything right. I had to roll back to CWM version 2.5 (I think it is about 3 or 4 versions earlier than the current one). No wonder they have been making so many updates over the past few days. Well at any rate, I wanted to ensure I wasn't doing anything wrong. i have done it before, but for whatever reason (now known to be CWM) it just wasn't working. I got it fixed and now have 2.3. I will install my apps including Titanium Backup and report any problems. I hope there are none; from what it sounds like, I will probably not have any, but only time will tell. Thanks for posting and confirming that I was not losing my mind.

make a backup using recovery it will work as for now i never had any probs so never required to restore my backup as far as application is concerned i make a backup using titanium backup-open titanium backup-click menu button on phone-select batch and backup all your external appl and games in one click. As far as your contacts is concerned i normally enter into contacts-select menu-import/export-select export to sd card .this will create a .vcf file in ur sd card.
So just copy the .vcf file and titanium backup file to your pc this way u will have all your contacts and appl in ur pc backup incase if u format ur card u can just copy back the backup to sd card again. and if u dont format your sd card then u just have all ur backup intact in your card which u can restore after flashing a new rom.
hope it helped you

No. Go into CWM recovery the normal way and backup there. Even if it can work, don't develop a bad habit.
Even if you could back it up with Rom Manager what would be the point if you couldn't flash it back onto the phone?

Make a backup with CWM.. rename the backup with ROM Manager or CWM Manager... or root explorer.. the "managers" navagate quicker to the backups for me, but root explorer works just fine also
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-4
Just get rid of ROM manager all together
I had too many problems with ROM manager, even when creating backups. Just make sure you have the latest and greatest recovery and do everything from recovery. If you need to rename, use root explorer.
I once tried to make a backup from ROM manager, I ended up having to restore to stock and flash a new version of CWM to get my phone out of a boot loop. Not a good feeling (specially if you forgot to backup your apps with TiBU).

sgs3 bricked

Hey everyone. I installed jelly bean on my gs3 and i didn't liked it (a little lugging). Thank God i made a backup before this process using cwm. But now when i tried to open this app in my phone it said something about application version. I tried using sgs3 toolkit but my phone now cannot boot into the system and using the recovery image i cannot find the restore folder (which i managed to copy it the sd card before). How can i restore my phone using that backup i have done before??
So you have a backup, but it does not work, or you can not find it?

Maybe you should try booting to download mode and flashing stock via odin and worry about your backup after your phone is in working order
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
When i go into recovery and press restore it says it does not locate any file to use. But i have copied the backup folder before all this mess to the root of the phone.
Does anyone knows how to use sgs3 toolkit to restore??
di you put your backup into /clockwordmod/backup?!? i mean it should be there but if it isnt it would be unecessary to do a full fresh install

Try and get the restore folder on your extSdCard and make sure you try to restore from ext sd in CWM.

When i go into recovery there is not a choice to make backup or restore. Also i do not have an external sd card..
Flash CF root and CWM recovery as it looks like you have stock recovery .

Ok done it. When i reboot the screen is black but the boot sound is playing normally, so i cannot see anything although it seems that the phone is on. Also when i boot into recovery mode and i try mount the phone, nothing happens..
Ok sorry for being so misunderstood, it is because i try at the same time to fix it.. Here how it is right now, when i boot in my phone the boot sound is playing but the screen is black. For the recovery image part, i have flashed cwm but when i go in recovery mode i cannot mount the phone to copy the backup file in cwn folder. And as i said before i already have a backup folder which i want to use to restore my phone. That's all that matters right now..Thank you for your answers btw
Just restore the backup
That is the point,i cannot do that.
So the backup is not on your phone?
Before messing up the phone i copied it on internal sd card, but not in the backup folder of cwm but on the root of the phone
When in recovery, open adb on the computer, type
shell
mv -r [YOUR BACKUP FOLDER PATH] sdcard0/clockworkmod/backup
Or actually, the more straightforward way would be to wipe data, then boot the device and move the backup folder into the cwm directory from there

[Q] Nandroid backup of Gingerbread on Samsung Galaxy Proclaim

Hey Everyone. Sorry if I posted in the wrong spot, but I've watched the "noob" video, and I couldn't find anything about my phone on here. So, I've become interested in custom roms, and I'm thinking about learning how to make some. I currently own a Galaxy Proclaim, and I havent been able to create a nandroid backup. I've successfully set up the adb on my Lubuntu Netbook, and I ran adb backup, and apparently that only works for ICS. So, that leaves me with a few questions. How do I make a nandroid backup of gingerbread? What does ROM Manager, from googleplay, back up? And Is there a way I could make a backup manually? I know how to backup the files on my system, but how would I backup the bootloader and everything else? Sorry about all the questions, I'm just curious and determined to make a custom ICS rom, or compile a ROM from source, but I'm afraid to try anything because I don't want to brick my phone.
Buddy do it via cwm.download compatible cwm for ur cell to sd card to root and go stock recovery m0d install zip from sd card and select cwm then select backup restore and in that option just select backup and wait until its done.u need root for flashing cwm in recovery.

Clockwork Manager doesn't support my phone. The phones model number is SCH-S720C. I've tried other backup apps and they back up my apps/media just fine, but I need a full nandroid backup in case I mess up the boot loader or flash the wrong .pit file. I'm not taking any huge risks this time since I bricked my last one. Is there anyway I could make a backup manually? I currently run Lubuntu 12.10, and I've compiled adb and it works right on my computer.
