Am i the only one - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i have been flashing for a while but ever since the 2.2 roms came out i do not see the need to flash anymore. I am currently running Obsidian V3 and i am happy with it and don't see the need to update to a newer version, well at least until they come up with overclocking then i flash.
Does anyone feel the same or do you flash a new rom that comes out? Please share.

I'm on v5 with the jk6 modem I'm awaiting v6 but I'm happy with v5 its very fast and the flash player is super stable and runs very well which for me was the only reason I even wanted 2.2 but I will flash whatever comes my way and looks awesome although dont I dont flash right away anymore I wait and read other peoples pro's and cons and then decide if I'd like to try it depending on the bugs
Still flashing , thanks to odin & tw

I am on v4 and with the awesome battery life I am getting I am a little sketchy about switching. I was going to try v5 but didnt want to bother with having to flash other pieces to get it to work right. I will probably wait to see whats up with v6. But I am quite happy right now.

[Q] [HELP] Which ROM should I use?

Hi All,
I purchased an X10 Mini Pro yesterday and I rooted last night.
I am now looking for the most stable ROM to put on my phone, I just don't know which one has had more development put into it.
Is it possible to use 'X10 Mini' ROMs on the X10 Mini Pro?
Appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction into which ROM I should put on my phone in terms of stability and functionality. Many thanks!
You can not use the rom from the mini for the mini pro...
the only advice is try them. backup your present rom first and then flash one of the few. try it for a couple of days and flash another.
you will find the rom that suits you most this way.
I'm using the Floyo rom and happy with it.
as all roms they are still under developement. things are not working random reboots may occur.
as said in other forums. there is no best rom. all roms are made to personal taste of the developer and that might you like more or less depending the rom. just try the roms available as said before. this is the only way.
read the threads about the roms they will give you all the info you will need.
@wilcovh
Okay thanks for getting back to me m8...
the most stabile and functional rom is the stock rom at this moment.
sorry guys, but you know it's like that. custom roms still need some bugfixes, but the progress is very promising.
hi,
you want a good and stable custom room?
well the best for now is the Foyo rom. it is almost bug free...(only 2 or 3 bug know bugs) and it have some themes options....
see the topic here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961783
Floyo v3.4 reboots often, but I couldn't find any other bugs. If you can (I can) tolerate these reboots, I think this is the best choice.
Temes
i cant boot to xrecovery after installed v3.4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=951274
and instal xRecovery.
But xRecovery should be working after installed v3.4
Maybe you did something wrong.
There's no random reboot on mine using CM6 3.4, try to reflash your phone and then install 3.4, I didn't see any bugs imho. Instead complaining about the bugs for each rom, try to help the dev by supporting they work and help them find a solution.
Try 3.4 for daily basis it's quite stable. CM7 V5 is still a little bit buggy in some vital section.

[Q] New to android and galaxy s2 !!!!!

I have a few questions sorry if its a repost but id rather make sure I get a good answer to those questions then any other variant of them.
I got a galaxy s2 a week ago and I feel like the battery life is really bad and the phone heats alot sometimes.... (BTW this is my first smartphone EVER) I was wondering which one of all these custom ROMs out there is the best for the galaxy s2? Which one will give me the smoothest experience with a good battery life and fix that heating problem?
Also, I have the Canadian bell's version so MUGKG2... When I look at ROMs all I see is XXKH3 or XXKE7, etc... Basically how and what version do I have to use/install to get a custom ROM? (P.S I know how Odin works and I know how to root since my phone is already rooted)
And what is the latest Android version possible to get on the galaxy s2? I heard something about 4.0 but I think the latest version possible to install is the 2.3.4 am I right? Also, every ROM is 2.3.4 right? Or do I have to flash a 2.3.4 (or 4.0 depending on the latest version) kernel on the phone?
Thanks for your time and have a good day!!!!!!!
Nick
1. there's no exact answer to which rom or kernel gives the best batt life. u should actually test them to see which fits your preference. there are also threads here which does benchmarkings and testing out batt life. try searching for them.
2. when u install a custom rom, it will say on their thread on what baseband version they based their rom. for example, LeoMar's ROM is based on KH3, etc. the rom chooses it for you basically.
3. the latest is 2.3.4, and almost all custom ROMs are based on 2.3.4. no need to flash anything extra
Ok so do I actually have to find a XXKG2 or MUGKG2 based ROM or I can take anything? And from personal experience which one do you think is the best one?
you can actually take in anything (at least your phone's getting an updated baseband version thru the custom roms).
i'm not quite sure how the different versions of the baseband affects my phone. i don't notice any difference in performance actually.
Aight!!! Thanks man. Which one do you recommend?
you can try using the dlev2 rom version 1.2 , its indeed great and also has good battery life

cognition or litening rom can be good choices to start with.
leomar rom gives a lot of customization options because it has a kitchen app on the android market.
My recommendation is that you read some more, get comfortable before you flash anything on your device, know what you are about to get into instead of going on someone else's opinion, the questions you ask are of someone who doesn't fully understand what they are about to do.
It helps when you read a lot, you are able to think your own way through if something doesn't go exactly as planed, else you would have to come right back here to ask a million questions
you can find official firmware here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
as a few posts above i agree what that person said..do a bit more reading before you start flashing. i can remember the time when i wanted to start flashing and rooting and when i did not back up the stock rom the first time i panicked and i did not know what to do and how to get back the stock rom...funny now but back then not so funny..
anyway research play with your stock rom for a while and then flash...for custom rom i would suggest a few...Im using BatistaRom 3.7.7 its the smoothest fastest and battery efficient rom i have used so far...even when i go and try other roms i always come back to this one. For battery as well VillainRom 2.4.2 is one heck of a custom rom and the battery life on that bad boy is wicked..
With regarding kernels again it varies...read the threads of the rom you are interested in flashing and see what people suggest on them..
good luck and be careful when rooting and flashing. any help you need throw me a PM..
Yeah, there are like tons of ROMs and customizations for SGS2 and all major developers are cooking something or the other for our GS2...
Selection of ROM depends only on taste. Some people wants battery life, some people wants only speed and performance. So ask yourself, what kinda ROM you need. One built from scratch, one modded from stock, AOSP?
I use GingerMod Vanilla 0.4. Suits my taste

Dead links to old ROMs,or alternative ROMs suggestions

Hi!
I have recently bought a second hand Vibrant.
Seller had MIUI on it, which I didn't like, for a few reasons.
One was non working GPS.
So, I installed latest stable CM 7 , which I like, BUT, GPS doesn't
work with it too. As I understood, that is common problem with 2.3.3
based ROM and Vibrant.
So I started looking for 2.2 based ROM and faced the problem, that
most links for these are currently dead.
I have succeeded to download Toxic Crazy8 and few versions of bionic,
but my recovery (version 5.0.x.x) refuses to flash them, as they are
in "old format" .
So, long story short, I am still looking for a ROM that will make me happy,
and thus need your help .
My requirements are :
Deodexed ROM, so I can apply the RTL fix on it ( or with built in RTL support).
Working GPS
Good battery life
Not too slow
As new as possible ( may be 2.3.x if all the above apply)
Should include FFC mod support
with working download link .
So, your help, suggestions and advices (and download links) are welcome!
Thank you in advance!
First and for most I suggest the ICS Passion V11 rom ....but if you want to go back to the extremely stable roms among us you will have to flash an older clockwork something that can be done in clockwork mod. Many people suggest Project V it was a great rom, but most would say that you can't go wrong with the bionix roms. Again though ICS Passion V11 (4.0.3 based) is definitely a modern winner though.

ICS PASSION.
Stable fast GPS works and its 4.0.3

If you want the newest, latest and greatest, the two posters above me nailed it. Passion is awesome and fairly stable.
But if you are wanting a 2.2 ROM, fisherman (I think that's his name) is updating Bionix and should have updated links.
ICS Passion
Thanks for all the replies!
Let's say that you've convinced me, and I am going to try the ICS Passion.
Few more questions regarding it though.
As I am totally not familiar with ICS, does it have RTL support?
I recall I have read somewhere it does , out of the box...
Does ICS Passion have support for FFC mod, or , specifically, will
I be able to have video chats on Skype or it's alternatives?
Thank you in advance!
Mulder check your PM box.
If you don't end up liking the ICS, there are these 2.2's that are solid builds and you can flash them with the CWR version in my signature.
Toxic8 (which you tried but with the linked recovery it should work-did for me)
Deranged9
Bionix
Bionix-Fishman redux
Trigger
Bi-winning
2.3's have battery and memory issues, so buyer beware.
Oh, and how good is ICS in terms of battery life?
I get 2 days out of her...

[Q] About installing a rom in a non european country

Hi.
I want to install a custom rom... lets say Cyanogen mod. This rom is european (i think) so i supposed the modem or whatever it is, It's different from one of South America. So when flashing would it ruin 3g and calls or something?
No your baseband will be just the same i believe you will not have any problem but lets say you want cyanogen mod before flashing go to dev post and ask him if that C.rom will change the baseband or if is there anyother problem!
At most you will have to input APN settings yourself
Actually i was thinkin in installing Stock Lite v6 on my galaxy ace. So i just backup my apn settings and just flash.. I'll try i. Thanks
I have v5 on my own and im really satysfied! and since the dev from that rom will release a v7 soon i will not flash v6
I'll wait a bit longuer
Good flashing!
Any question's or problem's just PM me
I wont release v7 soon. I always make sure that any update I release isnt a minor update. 3 major updates already. I want the 4th one to be major too. So, I will release v7 after I make some really awesome changes \m/

I installed it before reading the answers lol. Everything went ok. I did for the battery. Haven't seen much difference yet i guess it takes some charges and discharges after calibrating. But in general it's faster than stock rom.

[Q] Are GB Roms more stable then ICS roms.

I've got a friend's Vibrant who's visiting from out of town. It's still running froyo, and running horribly slow. I wanted to flash an ICS rom for him to get his phone running smooth again, and to give his phone a fresh new look. But after reading a lot of the threads, I'm getting the impression all ICS roms are still quite buggy. I myself have a SGS 4G, and don't have nowhere near the dev support that the Vibrant has. So seeing so many roms, especially ICS roms is overwhelming when trying to pick one. For those that have used GB and ICS roms, would you say that a GB rom would be far more stable and a better choice to flash? You see once I flash the rom, he won't have anyone to flash another rom should he have issues.
Depend's on wich ICS is right now in my own Testing Euphoria is the most stable FOR ME, GB I think is more stable but If you like more ICS themes and all that then you should try ICS.About the Rom Problem, Maybe you can show him How to,Causeit's not too complicated.
