Re-organizing SMS/Text messages, and backup utlities - Windows Mobile Apps and Games

I used PIM Backup to backp my text messages, but it is ridiculously outdated at this point and development seems to have stopped forever ago... and appears to have a major flaw, it doesn't save threaded messages.
Whenever I do a restore, not only does my pone remain unresponsive for practically a day after the restore finishes as it gets it's bearings.... but the messages only show my side of the conversation, even though it appears to have restored both sides (I think their responses come before the very first reply of mine).
So first of all before I even find a better backup tool, I first need a way to re-organize and re-thread my messages. Is there any way to do this?
And of course, what (preferably free) backup tool would you recommend? Since I am experimenting with different roms, I just want my contacts, call logs, text logs, etc to be backed up, not my settings or apps or anything like that.

resco backup, but it's not free

use Microsoft Myphone. It's free, it's easy, it's auto-scheduled, viewable from the internet using any web browser, works on any wm phone and works great even if you're using a ROM.

Well, first of all I want to know if there is any way to fix this unthreaded messages issue.
And doesn't MyPhone just sync contacts and e-mails? I want all my of call and text logs saved too.

myphone syncs text messages.
can also backup mydocument folder and others as well.
I have been using it since it came out.
Works great. My syncs every morning at 4am.

Best Backup utility for SMS, Call history only

Hello,
I've done some digging both through XDA Developers and the Internet in General.
I can't seem to find a decent program (or combination) that may effectively backup up only my sms and call history--the only 2 things I keep losing every time I flash. I went on a blitz last week and tried about 4 apps, but non really worked when I tested. Once again, I only care about sms and call history. I pull everything else back in with activesync.

Have you tried PPCPimBackup? It works great, and you can specify what you want backed up.

Have it and love it!

It's the only program I use for backing up and restoring my stuff when flashing.

I've been using Dashwire.com. I am not saying that it is better than other PIM backup software. I just like the fact that I can access my info from work and from home. I haven't tried it yet but I am hoping that I am able to restore info from one phone to another.
It backs up contacts, pictures, videos, calls, history, contacts, messages, sms, speed dials, ringtones, bookmarks, and voicemail. And is user configurable to backup only the items that you want.
It is in beta right now and it looks like it may want to be a social networking site. It let's you update your status to Twitter and Facebook simultaneously. I'm not into that so much. But the backup and restore process was painless.
After upgrading my ROM, it was a simple download and install of the Dashwire cab, log into my account, and it was as if my phone was never wiped clean. So far that's the program that I am using. I also backed up using SPBbackup and activesync to Outlook. But those were just to cover my bases.
p.s. did I mention free?
Boomstick's right on the money. Using Dashwire you can currently transfer from phone to phone your contacts, web favorites, and speed dials (with plans to include much more). All of your photos, videos, calls, and text messages remain backed up and available in your secure web-based account. If you switch phones, all of your content continues to sync and is backed-up (as long as Dashwire is installed). We make it really easy to search through all of your content too.
Check it out: www.dashwire.com
i use PPCPIMBackup just for my sms and call history, and have gone thru several DCD rom updates with my call and sms history intact.

You should tell us which crappy ones you already tried.
Thanks all--that PIM Backup is PERFECT!!!
And sorry, I don't even remember all the apps I tried--I blew up my PC last week, and had to restore the HD to 3 months ago, so I don't have it.

Can I save my messages to...

my sd card instead off it automatically saving it to the handset memory and taking forever before I can send a text if there are a lot messages threaded together?
nope. you can either delete all your messages to help with the freezing, though it'll come back when you get a lot more messages, or disable HTC Messaging & go back to the older/better WM messaging.
A few people have been saying that the leaked 3.14 ROM doesn't lag/freeze with texts so you may want to look in to that.

I can confirm this statement. The 3.14 ROM has a lot of the original bugs fixed (including slow loading when you have a lot of messages) but still if you have 300+ messages from someone it can start to get a little lag. If you don't want any at all I would recommend switching back to Windows Mobile messaging.
edit: If you use Microsoft My Phone it will back up all your messages and you can archive them online. This will allow you to delete them from your phone to solve the lagging problem without losing them permanently. If you would rather have a hard copy on your phone I'd suggest Resco Backup, it is a fabulous program. Link to both backup solutions below.
Microsoft My Phone
Resco Backup
Jeyo Mobile Companion is also a great way to backup messages. It backs them up to MS Outlook
Cheers guys, will start backing up my messages.
You can give a try to PimBackup to save your messages, too.

SMS Lag

Did search and found this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1306465&highlight=sms+lag
I think its one of my threads that have 5k messages, which is what is lagging me.
Rather not delete it and I do have SMS Backup but it does not save MMS (i think).
And more than often I look back at it using the search so I really rather keep it there.
Anyone know why its lagging or found a way to prevent it from going so slow?
Maybe modding a load previous messages according to date?
Sometimes it takes like 10-15 seconds to go back to home and 5 seconds to send a message.
PS. I rather not use gosms, I have tried it before and did not like it too much.
i prefer to use SMS Backup+, it will backup everything to your gmail account, including MMS. it cant restore MMS yet, but i dont care, since its all filed away nice and neatly in my gmail.

I'll give it a try but still looking for another solution so I don't have to delete them.

[Q] SMS Backup & Restore

Hey folks.
I recently discovered a great app named "SMS Backup & Restore" which I now happen to be the owner of the PRO version. Things is, that the backup works fine, but upon restoring, messages seem to get restore the wrong order - most of the messages are in the same thread, but completely mixed up. And I don't miss a few, I miss a lot.
The FAQ of the developer says that osme SMS cannot be backed up nor restored since it currently does not support MMS messages. But I'm extremely sure that most messages are just SMS. Did such happen to any of you, too? How to resolve this? And could that be dou to the use of GoSMS Pro which I use as my phone messaging app?
Any help is very much appreciated.

That is the only app I use for sms backup & restore since I have android phone. Never had any problems, except when on restore, threads (not messages) are not sorted in order in which I backed them up. Ofc, I just sort them by "most recent" in messages app. I used Handcent sometimes, but never had problems with dissapearing messages. Backup app and messaging app use xml, which is stored on phone, so I don't think it matters which one messaging app you use.

Thanks for helping, PROleev. Is there a way to clean up the XML-File I have? It contains multiple messages and upon restoring, it does not delete the duplicates although I enabled the option in the program. Furthermore, it seems that it saved messages with the completely wrong time. Therefore, restoring the messages results in a mess I don't know how to resolve.. except for to delete everything.

You're welcome.
Here is the app for duplicate messages, and it should help you (I didn't try it, but users say that it does its job). It is slow if you have a couple of thousands messages. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10377014&postcount=1
I have to make a correction..mesagge applications read from data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db (database file), but they save messages as .xml which you can open in any xml viewer or MS Excel..

[Q] Important Texts Won't Copy; Please Help

I have a Samsung Galaxy Prevail the model number is SPH-M820-BST and I am having some serious problems with my phones ability to copy SMS text messages to my computer or send them to my e-mail. I am having some problems with my land lord and I am trying to get a record of the text messages that she sent me but they are not copying properly, all of the messages copy except for a couple of really long important ones that she sent.
These are the programs that I have tried so far, SMS to text, Super Backup, SMS Backup+ (e-mailed to my gmail), SMS backup & restore. All of these programs have the exact same problem where they copy most of my texts except for a couple of the same really long ones that she sent. One thing I noticed is that for some reason my text messages are usually limited to 200 max per contact but for her its now at 207.
These text messages are really important for me to get my security deposit back and chances are I'm going to have to use them in small claims. I've tried everything to no avail, maybe I should use screen capture software? Or maybe even put my phone into a photo copy machine?
Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.
Does anyone know of any screen capture software I could use?
