A lot of people including myself have the problem with 2.1 where we cant send text messages longer than a single text.
But it says here that vodafone have worked with SE to fix the issue and have released an updated 2.1 firmware.
Is this firmware available yet for flashing? if it is where can i download it?
It tells you in the link you posted. Update/Repair using PC Companion.
But i have a rooted and unbranded phone with the nordic firmware. If i was to try and update i'd imagine PCC would not detect a vodafone firmware and not update to it... or that would not matter if SE have fixed all firmwares and not just done a vodafone fix, does anyone know? would PCC even work correctly with a flashed phone?

Sorry, from your OP it sounded like you were on vodaphone firmware already. The easiest way to flash it back to vodaphone is by the CDA change method as you are rooted.
see here:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824711
you will need to change the codes to 1234-4579
Although as you were having problems with it on nordic firmware it would say to me that its not a firmware issue, more likely a network one but i'm no expert.
also, probably worth you keeping an eye on this thread, and PM Jeff-SEAnswers ...

Thanks mate
I dont think it's a network issue because other people have the same problem on all kinds of networks and in different countries.
I have a vodafone SIM but i've always had a unlocked/unbranded phone... what would happen if i tried to use PCC to put the new firmware on my phone without flashing back to my phones original firmware? and are all UK firmwares the same or would this one with the fix be specifically for vodafone?

Using the above method I linked to would install the newest Vodafone firmware (ie. The 'fixed' one in your link). It doesn't matter what firmware you are currently on. No, all UK firmwares are different, some will come with provider settings preinstalled, specific apps or features enabled/disabled depending on network. If you don't want to go back to branded try flashing to generic UK 2.1 using flash tool, thats what i'm on and I never had any text problems.
Think i'll just try flashing to the firmware you use and see if that fixes it... could you link me to the UK firmware you used? Cheers again!

just put the files in the 'firmware' folder of flashtool then run it.

i will like you to share my knowledge regarding returning back to own country firmware from the nordic 2.1
first of all download the bin4ry update tool and firmware but not any firmware but 1.6 firmware
downgrade your firmware from 2.1 nordic to 1.6 any countries firmware should work
then change the value of build.prop to your orginal handset value or your choice value.for more information about the value you can search blog
then try to update it with seus. if it say you have latest firmware then repair it with seus and if seus dont give option for repair then use pc companion .
if you are lucky then you will get the latest firmware or downgrade your firmware to your choice of firmware and that is great for now cauz if there is any update for your choice of firmware then you will get update so need to wait for while
i know this work cauz i have done this by first of all i was using nordic 2.1 thou my orginal firmware is uk generic then i downgrade my firmware to netherland 1.6 and then i change the value/replace it with my orginal build.prop and now this mornign i repair my phone with seus and it is working like acharm 2.1 ..hurry guys ...
i have included my build.prop 1.6 so this should work for each and every one
Thanks for share.

Use the NL one in the link above, root the phone using Androot, copy the build.prop from the first post to /system/usr and replace the old one, then open PC Companion while your phone is connected and click update.
Hi @all,
i am looking for the 1.6 German Firmware, i would go back from 2.1 because i have now problems with my bluetooth hands free
Thanks badboybiky and Skeldave.

Hello!
I've searched many threads with usefull information through XDA forums, but some say that it is absolutely necessary that the phone should be unlocked, some say I cam update firmware even if it is unlocked.
I don't want to brick the phone, that's why I'm asking again...so, please, tell me which option should I choose.
Thank you in advance...
Your phone doesn't need to be unlocked to update the firmware
as above, the phone doesn't need to be unlocked.
However, if your phone is using branded carrier firmware, you can not update to a newer generic firmware and must wait for your carrier to release the updated version.
If your phone is running generic firmware, then you can just update to newer generic firmware no probs.

Hello.
Me too I am curious about changing my firmware.
My phone is carrier locked. But I want to use a non branded firmware.
Did you tried? It is possible without bricking my phone?
After flashing a non branded firmware I will be able to use SIM cards from other carriers?
THX.
Hi,
I bought my SGS 2 on ebay. The phone is unlocked, but was on Vodafone and hence have Vodafone apps which won't work anyway.
I'm using a TESCO SIM which basically uses O2.
Now my question is how can I update to ICS.
Since the phone is vodafone branded but now on TESCO/O2 SIM, please help me updating to ICS.
I cannot use the generic from Samsung KIES as the current firmware is from Voda and cannot use Voda update as I'm not using thier network.
Phone details are
PDA:I9100BUKJ3
Phone: I9100BUKI1
CSC:I9100VODKI2
thanks

You wait for Vodaphone to push the update out .
Or you start reading and searching and use the Samsung stock ICS firmware if you want ICS NOW .
Millions of posts asking the same question not hard to find .

you could try to check if have "I9100" model, not the "19100G" or other variants, then you can start from there.
if you're have "I9100" then generic roms would be fine. (LPQ, LP7, LP2)

Thanks For the reply.
I'm planning to do this
1. Debrand to generic UK ROM that is 2.6.4
2. Go to KIES get the ISC.
Please let me know if this will work ?
Also Please let me know which UK Generic ROM 2.6.4 can I use. I'm confused looking at the Inrtatech's post. Not sure what they are ? Please point me to the exact one please.
Thanks

Their is no exact one ..
If you really must have ICS then download a latest version stock from .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1559170
You really only have two choices KIES updates as and when you get them .
Or XDA developers forum flash stock roms via Odin on day of release .
two methods dont really mix and match .
GB 8/10 ICS current release 3/10 not good enough for my phone .

based on your original post, you want to update to ICS, now you're saying "2.6.4", there's no such thing as "2.6.4", do you mean 2.3.6?
if you want to debrand and update to ICS, there's no need to install 2.3.6, you can install ICS and wipe your data, and you're good to go.
for are i think 3 stable versions of ICS, LPQ(which is UK), LP7(indonesia) and LP2 (russia) if you really want a UK version, use LPQ(but i has an sms bug which sends sms twice when using 3rd party apps).
I debranded my Xperia S about 6 weeks ago to fix the GPS problem, fed up withwaitin for Orange to do the update. Orange is now on version .75 and I'm still on .67... Does anyone have the Orange firmware so I can rebrand my phone... I can find T-Mobile NL but no Orange (UK)
Thanks
Why do you care about rebranding now? Orange bloat? Flash TW .76, remove the bloatware, enjoy.

Maybe he wants it incase it has to go back to Orange UK?
Maybe he isn't sure if putting the Taiwanese firmware on there will let some of his apps (Banking etc) work?

Many thanks for both your replies.
Here is my reasoning:
The auto update facility doesn't work with .67 and I don't want to keep checking for flash updates
When I have previously updated its taken half a day to get my setting back to how I like it.
If I need to return the handset to Orange wouldn't an incorrect firmware invalidate my warranty
When I manually updated I assumed I'd be able to regress

No probs mate, many moons ago I used to work at the Darlington Orange office firstly on Handset Faults/Tec (A lot of them have no idea and follow a flow chart on their screens!) then moved onto Handset Insurance & Fraud Investigation. So I had a fairly good clue as to why you would want the original firmware.

Bit the bullet and upgraded to firmware to .73 (Swedish) it is now auto updating to.75 ... and it didn't loose my settings... must have been something wrong with the .67 firmware I used.
I need this firmware too (Orange UK) as I need to send my phone back to Orange for warranty reasons. Any way I can change my firmware back to Orange from UK Generic?
The only way I can think of is;
1. Unlock Bootloader
2. Flash another firmware region with a rooted system.img
3. Change the customisation number in build.prop to the Orange UK one.
4. Re-lock bootloader
5. Flash with PCC hoping that it will recognise my device as Orange Uk
Would this work?
Hi Everyone,
Can anyone help me with process for flashing UK version firmware of XQ-BC52 on Taiwan version of XQ-BC72. I need to know which firmware files such as ".ta" or any other files to be removed from firmware folder before flashing. The UK or US customization versions supports volte and Wifi calling in my country.
Currently the Taiwan firmware version is at 61.0.A.23.20 (android 11) and UK firmware version is at 61.1.A.2.211 (android 12)
Can I just flash the .oem files of UK firmware to TW firmware?. But, since device firmware versions are different, flashing may fail and corrupt the device. Can you confirm if this is safe to flash?.
Request your help!

I think yes but r u sure that customized UK fw supports voLTE and WIFI calling? the switches are in the settings? because I have the same model but with eea customized and have no volte or/and vowifi switches.... My carrier supports them btw
I've been told the customised SEA also has Volte and VoWifi wnabled, but I never got any joy out of it when I flashed it into my HK BC72 device. I have tried the previous firmware revision of the UK one, but nothing there either.

So if I flash it to my XQ-BC52 will it affect anything? I don't want to lose anything, but I want to use volte I have no idea why it isn't enabled when all of the carriers on my country support it
I would first update it to the newest TW Firmware and check if it works (so you can update, without loosing personal data).
If it still doesn't work, I would try the HK firmware, because of Over-The-Air–Updates (OTA). I have VoLTE and VoWifi in Switzerland with this firmware.
If it still doesn't work, try the BC-52 firmwares (but you loose OTA Updates).
Please just check after flashing a new firmware if you have the functions. If it works, first do a repair with Sony Companion before starting to install everything (like apps, files....). This makes a clean install and avoids a lot potential of failures/problems.
I bought the phone in Etoren and it is the model XQ-BC72, I live in the UK, and the update I received via OTA and is installed is 61.1.A.2.211 release-keys. you shouldn't, I guess Sony recognizes you're in the UK and installs the correct one

You won't lose your data if you explicitly tell it not to clear userdata off your phone, if that's what you mean. If, however, you're referring to certain functionalities I sometime hear of getting lost, then I myself haven't noticed such with all versions of firmware I have tried out so far.

I've yet to do a clean install, the way you have described it. I guess I'll do it just like that when I've given up on trying to activate VoLTE and VoWifi on my phone. It's interesting that your Hong Kong phone has that function over there. I suppose there is some substance in Sony's insistence that the one's network provider be engaged as well.
I was considering getting the Xperia 1 IV which would be a nice upgrade from my Xperia 1 II but with volte not working it would push me away. I managed to get it working on my Xperia 1 II by simply flashing SEA firmware. It was straight forward and has worked flawlessly with OTA updates. It doesn't look like the Xperia 1 IV will work that way. Even if I was to flash SEA firmware it looks like volte still wouldn't work. Come on Sony sort this problem out
