[Q] JK6 sywpe/oclf/adfree android?? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, I admit it took me a couple of flashes to figure out (something I already knew!) about voodoo and flashing over. I then started all over with jfd and ji6. But when I get to the jk6, I cann't seem to get lagfix to work and loose swype. Go figure that OCLF and Z4 go AWOL from Market in the middle of my flashing too.
When I flash JK6, I loose sywpe and everything loaded (without repartition checked during flashing I think....(I've tried soo many times and loose swype everytime)).....
OK, here's my one (loaded/baited) question:
is sywpe losted in conversion or am I doing something wrong (like flashing over VOODOO)??

Well, rule #1 is ALWAYS disable voodoo prior to flashing. But that's not your problem; I've lost Swype whill flashing 2.2 ROMs also I don't think there's anything you can do.

[Q] Phone doesn't boot, sits at black screen after boot animation

So, I messed up. The plan was to uninstall RyanZA's lagfix, then flash JAC's new OC/UV kernel with Voodoo. I got distracted, and didn't uninstall the lagfix before flashing (through Clockwork, if that matters). My phone didn't boot after an hour, so I figured I'd nandroid back and not be so stupid this time. When I tried, I found that I couldn't because of the change to the /data from Voodoo. So then I figured I'd just use Odin to go back to stock, I've done it a couple of times before. That didn't work either, Odin went just fine, but it still doesn't get past the black screen. I read the Voodoo thread, and saw the "disable-lagfix" thing you can do, but now I can't mount my sdcard, and when I try to push it with ADB, it says permission denied. How can I fix this? Also, as an aside, since I flashed the stock back on, with the T-Mobile boot anim and all that, will I be able to get it replaced, if need be?
Flash this first:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740558
Then flash back to stock with odin, worked for me.
Yeah, reading into the voodoo thread some more, I found it, and just fixed everything. Thanks for the quick reply! Odd that the froyo rom fixes it, but whatever, happy to not have to go to T-Mo tomorrow!

Yeah, I soft bricked my phone yesterday and couldn't get it back up and running with the stock rom until after I flashed eugenes froyo rom first. My guess is that because eugene codes his roms to automatically format your OS drive it clears everything out and sets a fresh slate so you can than flash the stock rom back without issues.
Pure speculation on my part though. Glad you got it fixed.

just attempted to flash 1200.zip and am getting tons of forced closes

very odd ... nandroid restore i have a feeling its gonna be
Well good luck with a nandroid if it's voodoo.
As a last resort...
theres a "Odin Restore files to get you to stock - xda-developers" thread, sorry can't link yet but yeah you can find that one easily
try wiping and see what happens
Clearing delvik cache normally helps with force closes in my experiences with clockwork and android.

So basically I factory restored and I'm doing okay now. I tried to go into clockwork recovery and restore my latest backup and I just get the force closes again but I'm safe to assume I do not have root currently so should I re root them try to restore my backup?
Did you flash a regular kernel over voodoo without disabling?
Same Problem.
I had this problem. Unfortunatly I did not have a backup, no biggie for me. I had to restore to stock using ODIN, then wipe data and had a brand new phone. I attribute it to the fact that I started changing Kernals more than my underware. After re-rooting I am ready to start flashing Kernals again, which means I will more than likely be restoring to factory again..... Maybe I should back-up current ROM. Oh, and I did flsh a ROM over Voodoo, don't do that.
well i have a backup but yes i tried to flash the 1200 zip over a deodexed system with voodoo lag fix ON so im guessing i shouldnt of done that. im getting super slow boots and still a **** load of force closes ... so im thinking the odin fix and starting fresh is the way to go for me.
so i flashed the restore through odin and i think im okay ... normal boot time and everything seems to be working fine ... had to format my SD card and everything. im gonna reroot and start everything over .. wish me luck!! haha
EDIT: well i spoke too soon im not getting any cell service on my device now hmm
EDIT: nevermind i do have service google just isnt connecting hmm this is ****ty
I just want to stress out how important it is to read every single word in the instructions and follow every single word....please check the stickied thread at top on how to install voodoo kernels...it has all the links you need....but seriously, many people have flashed tons of kernels and did many changes without a single hiccup... If things went wrong, then you misses an important step.

I followed everything and when I disabled it, like have 15 times before, it just got caught in a bootloop and I had to restore yesterday. I think the voodoo fix we have now is just really touchy.
Same deal with mine
I've been swapping the voodoo kernels like crazy the last couple days and just found JT's "1200_interactive_bfq". Figuring I was running voodoo kernels and not that bogus lagfix junk, I used CWM and loaded JT's kernel. When it booted I got tons of the force closes and was unable to absolutely anything with the phone. Here's the simple way I got mine back to operating...
-Shut off phone
-Hold down volume key while powering up to get into factory boot loader mode.
-Once in, run update.zip to get into CWM
-Once in CWM installed the last voodoo kernel I had been running and rebooted the phone.
-Good as gold.
Now...in order to install the new JT interactive kernel do I have to disable the voodoo kernel or do I have to go back to a stock kernel first?

Frustrated w/clockwork and recovery

This is my second time trying to restore a backup using clockwork and it just hangs on the vibrant screen. The first time I forgot to disable voodoo so that was the problem then, but this time I was on obsidian froyo rom and had issues where I was not able to get any data reception (3g/edge) so I figured to try and got back to stock to see if that solved the issue but no I'm stuck on vibrant screen. It went through the process of restoring then rebooting but it got suck. I am very frustrated because I can't never get it to work so what is the point of backing up stuff. I will be using odin again to restore and not use backups anymore. Just wanted to vent as I am very frustrated about this. If there is some out there that could shed some light as to why I keep getting stuck on the vibrant screen I would appreciate it.
Will be getting a replacement phone from my date issue, and yes my voice still works just not data part.

Froyo has a differnt kernel than eclair. You were trying to restore an eclair build, but you did not flash the stock eclair kernel first.

what eclair kernel can i use for the future???
i odin back to JFD and my 3g/edge is working again i wonder why i lost it?
Probably the easiest thing to do would have been to flash a new custom rom with the kernel included, like Fusion/Bionix.
You could have flashed the stock kernel and then restored a JI6 nandroid too though I imagine. I've not tried yet. The stock kernel can be found in my signature or in the development section. I have a copy on my internal memory just in case.

Voodoo Lag Fix Help

So...
Let me start off by saying I've been doing a lot of searching and reading already and pretty confused.
I've been playing around with my Vbirant trying to install the Voodoo Lag fix. Currently I'm running stock rooted JI6. Every time I install the voodoo lag fix, I get stuck at the Vibrant screen. Had to odin Eugene's Froyo that doesn't brick then odin back to stock. Tried this multiple times and kept getting stuck at the Vibrant screen.
Finally, tonight I tried going back to the original JFD and was able to apply the voodoo lag fix.
What I'm trying to figure out is how to apply the voodoo lag fix specificially to a stock JI6 build. Can someone tell me what the heck I'm doing wrong? I've verified that I don't have the larger NAND.
Below are some of the links that I've used for reference. Thanks for your help!

Are you actually applying the correct voodoo.zip file for your phone version? Try renaming it update.zip and reinstalling packages in recovery, that might work.
Thanks Bobbbb. I've tried both 3.0 and beta4 specifically for the Vibrant. Renamed both to update.zip and put it on root of the internal SD, rebooted into recovery and did a re-install packages. Get "Linda's" voice, all 3 steps, and then it's just stuck at the vibrant screen. Let it sit there for 20-30 minutes and finally gave up. This was all for stock JI6.
For stock JFD, it only took maybe 10 minutes for the whole process.

Voodoo flashing issues. Help, please!

After I flash what seems like any kernel with Voodoo in it, I get stuck at the Vibrant boot screen after Linda says Voodoo's been activated. The last one I tried was Jocelyn's Categorically Worthless. I usually wait 15 minutes before pulling the battery out and ODINing back to stock. Is it a kernel problem? Or does my Vibrant simply not like Voodoo?
To be clear, I'm not looking for a soft-brick solution. I know how to use ODIN and have gotten myself out of many a jam. But I've been trying to figure out how to get Voodoo on my device for months and haven't come up with anything (yes, I've searched far and wide). I'm still using Nero v1, since none of the Voodoo'ed kernels bundled with Team Whiskey's newer ROMs have played nice with my phone.
Any help would be appreciated!
Do you have a lot of apps installed? That's the only thing I can think that might be making it take so long. Try doing it right from a fresh odin with no apps installed and it should convert in about 10 mins
Maybe try odining with Eugene's Froyo that doesn't brick then see what happens.
I don't think it's the apps; the hang still occurred when I tried to flash Jocelyn's kernel on top of a clean install of Nero v1. I hadn't done a Titanium restore or synced my Google account or anything like that yet.
[EDIT: Is Linda supposed to say anything after she tells me Voodoo's been enabled? Because if not, then I think I actually made it through the conversion in under 10 minutes and something else is going wrong afterward.]
As for Eugene's Froyo, I'll try that tomorrow and let you know. Just to make sure -- are you suggesting I ODIN with Eugene's ROM, and then try Voodoo again directly? Or should I ODIN with Eugene's Froyo, then flash another custom ROM that doesn't include Voodoo, and then try the new kernel after that?
Thanks!
