Which Launcher are people using here?
I've been using ADW even since i got the phone, I've read around that ADW sucks battery and recently i have noticed quite a decrease in my battery, but im not sure if thats because im using it.
People have suggested using LauncherPro as the battery life is far superior then using ADW.
People have also stated Zeam, and recently the new launcher. Go.
I'm not sure what to make of them all, or how to test etc.
Was wondering if we had some people here who have tested and have come to some conclusion as to what best etc etc
I'm using ADW its always been the launcher i go back to after trying another..
The best thing to do is get 'home switcher' from the market and try a few out and see how you like them.
I used and compared both ADW and launcher Pro plus . I started out with ADW since I got the phone and switched to launcher Pro about a month ago. However, since I missed a few features, I switched back to ADW since a few days.
Concerning battery use, I can clearly say that the difference is hardly (if all) noticable. There a very few performance differences between those 2.
It's all down to a few little customisation options that make the difference.
Hope this helps.
LauncherPro Plus for me. Used ADW for a long time but it's gone done hill since the last update so switched to LPP as it's much much better imo.
I used ADW until the 2.1 upgrade, then I thought I had better check out LPP to see what all the fuss was about... I still have LPP.. it's reet proper bo.
I've tried a few. Using LPP and ADW mainly, still got Helix 2 but most other launchers were so-so... dxtop, panda etc. There's a couple of newer ones, Zeam and GoLauncher, that with a few updates could be good. It's all down to personal taste, tbh.

I have used LPP, ADW, Panda, Open, GDE, Zeam, Helix, and Helix 2. Now I have found one that I completely happy with. Go Launcher.
Go launcher has a lot of potential for sure, for a first/second version I am impressed. I still use lpp for now but I have go launcher installed, when it gets better I will definately switch, eventhough I paid for lpp.

Im using LPP for now. It seems good and user friendly. Looking for a much better launcher.

LauncherPro Ftw! Its on version 0.8.2... its taking forever to get to 1.0.. but I'm sure when it does.. it will without a doubt... give me an errection!
Tried everything out there but stuck to zeam for minimalism, speed and extended battery life (~48 hours, heavy usage)
x10i&tt.
LauncherPro
Speed, Stability, Widget scale and scroll ability.
Yeah i think seeing LP 1.0 will give me a boner too.

Dont know if this will be the same across the board. I unistalled GO something happened over night. GO started to become a memory hog. Stability went out of control. I unistalled it and everything went back to normal. Reinstalled = slow and unresponsive. Hopefully next update it will improve.
LauncherPro 0.8.1, fast and smooth )
I like both Launcher Pro and ADW right now using ADW a lot less laggy with the new update.

So I rooted my phone around a month ago and it was pretty cool. Got eclipse 1.1 running with launcher pro things run pretty smooth. I've flashed newer eclipse versions but didn't think random things about them so I flashed back to this. But now I'm at the point where all of this isn't that cool anymore and I want something more from my phone. I don't know what buy there has to be something I can do to make my phone amazing and entertaining again =) any tips?

I enjoy having the ICS theme on my eclipse.
What exactly was your cool factor? Speed? Different look? Customization?
First off, I'd recommend updating to the latest eclipse. Or you could back up your phone and check out some of the other roms, Molten has been pretty interesting to follow, and already has some of the scripts included in Speedy v7 I believe. There is also Liberty, which actually offers up a lot in customization. One of the devs for Liberty, jrummy also has some excellent tools that are quite useful, such as Rom Toolbox (free app, includes root browser which I use for looking at system files).
You could try messing around with some of the mods/scripts. I personally have used Speedy v7, DX2 build.prop Mashup and GB Battery Fix 0.8. Pretty confident in my battery read out now and I've definitely been seeing some faster speeds.
If you're looking for customization, maybe you should try checking out themes. As travis said above, the ICS theme is pretty catchy and there are some other great themes there as well (for Molten and Liberty.)
You could also check out some different launchers. ADW Launcher always gets great reviews and I've been using GoLauncher in combination with GoWidget and GoLocker I've been digging every minute of it. I can customize the way my phone reacts to swipes, I can change icons on the fly as well as the lock screen (my current is four key, love it, would definitely recommend checking it out). GoWidget is also pretty nifty in that the widgets can be skinned, allowing them to fit in rather well with whatever you've already got going on.
Alright ill look into the battery thing and the speed thing as well as all the different go stuff. I run go sms right now lol

There's always Tasker. You can make the phone do pretty much anything you can think of with that.

Thanks! I completely forgot about task services/apps. Llama is also another good app, and free, if you're looking for something like that as well.
Idk about you guys but i'm getting a little upset of finding different apps and launchers that don't fit my freaking screen...any cheeper AT&T phones anybody suggest with 480x800 screens???
i believe more and more phones these are going with the qHD (540 x 960) size. maybe you should wait a bit because that size should be supported more in the future.
Usually the apps that don't fit a qHD screen these days are the ones that have a lack of support anyways.
As far as launchers, which ones do not fit the Atrix? I have used LauncherPro, ADW, Go Launcher, Zeam, Nemus, and a few others I don't remember their names but never had a problem. Are you running a custom Rom?

You can make most of those apps fit your screen by downloading Spare Parts and toggling "compatibility mode".

+1 that will fix most of your problems. Also, where have you found a launcher that doesn't fit the screen? You must really be scraping the bottom of the market to have found those because all of the decent/popular launchers I have tried worked fine.

Try ADW ex. I'm using that right now, and works just fine. Like earlier posts, I should mention - all the popular ones seem to be working for me. Go Launcher, ADW, Launcher Pro, all seem to work fine.

If your Atrix is rooted, give "Font Changer" a try. It's "free" and all you need to do is increase the "density" size. (I believe mine is on 260 for the setting)
Icons, text, and browsing IMO is much better now. Oh and one last thing yo note, if you do increase the density the "default dialer" won't work until you go back to the default size, but there are many 3rd party dialers that get the job done and work fine...

You should give twlauncher4 a try. Look for it in themes and apps atrix forum. It will give you a Samsung Touchwiz experience, like love it or leave it (my first android was a galaxy s and I really like that launcher).
Anyone use the HAX launcher with the razr yet, If so...
How does it run with custom roms?
Any personal pros and cons?
I didn't think this post should be in the Q/A thread because I was just trying to see how everyone feels about it with the RAZR and maybe get some tips and tricks out it....
Basically I was thinking about trying it and wanted to see if it was a waste of time.
I've used in on my stock Razr. It force closed every day, so I've gone back to Apex launcher.

Ive used it on Eclipse and Koa Roms. So far I havent had any issues. Im my opinion the only issue is if you have the weather set to display when you get to the main menu it doesnt show as soon as you get there. I takes it a few seconds. Other than that its not to bad.
For some reason once I used it my battery life was horrible. I'm not sure if it was because I was running both the apex launcher and hax but either way I though it was petty cool. Just needs more live titles. Maybe I'll try and make some...
Thanks guys

If I am reading this right, you are NOT going to root the phone, and want to know if we think its worth it to upgrade from the original stock FROYO build to ICS?
YES!!!!! If you are not going to root and install a custom ROM, the ICS build has way better battery life and 80% less bloat. It should run smoother than the original FRYO build.
My recommendation tho would be to root it and install the debloated stock or a custon build by Santod once he finishes them up.
Good luck with your Bolt.

Also, do not restore any apps on 1st boot.

I have heard of some people having really bad lag and others for whom it worked really well. It may be an issue that actually effects each Bolt differently. However, I have noticed that many smartphone users, especially enthusiasts who frequent this forum and others, expect everything on their phones to happen instantly, quickly, the very second they click on it. Anything that takes a moment longer than that is considered "lag."
I ran the stock, unrooted ICS for several days and it ran really well. If you don't want to root her phone, or she doesn't want that, I would go ahead and take the upgrade because it is leaps and bounds ahead of froyo, GB, and Sense 2.1. Any actual lag won't even really be noticeable and the signal and battery life will improve. One thing I learned from rearing posts from early stock upgraders is that you should delete her texts before upgrading. For some reason, having lots of texts in there prior to upgrading created serious lag when opening the SMS app.

Is there any difference in game performance between GB and the stock ICS OTA?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
I've noticed the lag also. I'm pretty sure it's a sense issue. Installed nova launcher and have no lag issues with lag when I use it.
Also, remember that people perceived "lag" differently. So to some the stock ICS rom is laggy while to others its smooth. Unfortunately without rooting her device she won't be able to experience the difference and to decide if its worth it.

Downloaded Nova launcher, HUGE difference... Running much better now!
I never understood why people think that a different launcher on top of sense makes it run better?
Please explain it to me because the way I understood it was that sense was still all there and running in the background and you just added nova/whatever on top of it.
If thats the case another launcher can not reduce lag but if anything only add more.....
Again please inform me if I am misunderstanding this.

I can't really argue that it doesn't make much sense, however using the stock launcher their would be huge lag when unlocking the phone or opening apps or the app drawer. After installing Nova Launcher the is no lag at all now. When I switch back to sense, the lag magically reappears.
No need to point out whether it seems to make sense or not. It’s the results that matter.
When you set your default launcher to Nova and the phone boots without launching the sense launcher which is technically just an app in the eyes of the phone, and the fact that Nova is better coded to be more efficient on memory/cpu/graphics I don't understand anyone's confusion on why using the launcher, or going back home from another app you would see speed increases/less lag. Not only is it much quicker, but it redraws a lot less, and I find that other apps run better with Nova running in the background as opposed to rosie.

Menu buttons
Hi
After the Verizon ICS upgrade, the lower menu buttons (home, menu, back and search) don't always light up. They seem to function ok but they are impossible to read in the dark. It seems to only happen now and then. I have not seen a pattern. Phone is not rooted. I did not notice this bad behaviour until after the ICS upgrade. It may just be a hardware issue on a 2.5 year old phone.
Anyone else notice this after ICS?
Thanks
John

My two bits: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Your girlfriend has been happy this long on the FroYo stock unrooted phone? Why risk ruining that? No one wants an unhappy girlfiend (sic). If you're not going to root it, then there's no way to go back if you decide the upgrade is not so much "up". The exception may be if she's already planning on upgrading to a new phone: go ahead and go to ICS and see how it is, then if she doesn't like it she can at least move to a new phone with an extra few days experience with ICS, (her new phone won't likely have FroYo... )
I've been a huge fan of Nova Launcher for years, every time I get a new phone I give the stock launcher a try but end up back with Nova.
Can the stock launcher compete? Does it have any Pixel only features that might change my mind?
Ta
Probably not, the stock launcher is pretty basic in terms of customisation.
I like the option to have different icon shapes and density tbh
I'll obviously give it a go, but most likely change to AIO
I'll look at it but there's not much chance I won't go to Action Launcher which I've used on phones/tablets for years.
I'm probably going try it for a while, but will probably go back to Niagara Launcher.
Have to say, I spent about 15 minutes with it then installed Nova!!!

This has become my go to launcher with my Pixel 5. Love the setup and layout all around. Replaced the Nova launcher for me.
I've been a HUGE Nova fan for a long time, and if I'm honest, I'll be switching to it very quickly once my Pixel6 comes in. In the last version, when they officially dropped support for the TeslaUnread plugin, I knew the product had lost it's special sauce. Nonetheless, it remains the most customizable and best-featured launcher I've found. And if you're rooted, its just that much more useable. But DAMN....it sure sucks that I can't have PROPER unread count badges on my apps.

I'm not fussed about unread counts, don't really have any, urgh that makes me sound lonely! But this is the first time I'm using Nova without the nav bar so getting used to gestures. Liking it so far
Probably not. Likely switch to Ruthless provided this doesn't restrict widgets or navigation.
I've been thinking about that myself and I think ill switch to Nova. I've had the premium version forever now.
is the stutter when pressing home, gone when using 3rd party launchers?
Nova Prime a must have for my devices.... cheers
I used to use Nova all time, never even bothered setting up the home screen on stock, since android 11 though I had to change that as the experience with 3rd party launchers is not longer good enough for me.
Gestures stopped working properly and I like gestures, yes they still work but lots of animation quirks and other stuff that depending on your device make for a generally inferior experience to stock. Just IMO of course.
If I was a launcher developer I'd be fuming with Google.
