Is there any way that we could get Eugene's modded IME that he has made for Macnut r13? I love that keyboard and would like to continue to use it even if not on that particular rom.
I tried extracting the .apk from root explorer and copied it to my sd, but I am not that savy with the whole situation. Any insight or help would be much appreciated.

Anyone know how to get Fascinate apps to install on our Vibrants?
I pulled several apks from the Fascinate system dump, but I don't know how to install them. Regular installation fails ('Application not installed')
I tried copying the apks/odex files into system/app via root explorer and got stuck in a boot loop. I then tried just copying over the apks, and no boot loop but also no installation.
Here is a link to the system dump for anyone who knows what they're doing to take a look:

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Hi,
It would help to know what apps you want from the fascinate?
Installing likely doesn't work because the samsung signature may be different in the shared.uid for the vibrant and the fascinate, and I believe you'd need to de-odex the apps before being able to just do a push/copy to the /system/app directory.
Good luck though, cheers

Thanks for the response. I primarily want the clock widgets from the fascinate. If I de-odex the apps, would I have to de-odex my rom (running stock) in order to push them into the app directory?

all apps from the galaxy s series are basically interchangeable. ie tw launcher and all samsung widgets. they just have to be deodexed versions of the apks.

great! thanks for your input. you are absolutely right.
here is a link to fascinate deodexed files for anyone else who wants the fascinate widgets on their vibrants (credit goes to 3083joe for deodexing the files):
http://www.androiddoes.net/jwilson/fascinateDI01_Deodex_CW.zip
take the apk files from the app folder (of the deodexed file above) and copy to system/app on your phone via root explorer -- change permissions to match other system apps -- reboot for good measure and that should be it.
Why is it 86Mbs? That's HUGE.
can someone help me out, if i open a downloaded rom on my desktop with winrar, click on "system" then on "app" scroll down to the mms.apk, can i remove that file and add a different mms.apk. When i do this will the mms.apk i placed in the folder be what gets flashed to my phone. I am currently using auxora 2.2 and its a great rom i tried eugenes gingerbread clone and i am at a loss becuase i am very partial to the stock vibrant mms app so if i could add the mms app that i downloaded to his rom and remove whats currently there.
any feedback is appreciated
thanks!
"salbanys" on twitter!
i asked this question last week here and the short answer is yes.
although its worked a couple times for me with different roms,i've been trying it on axura 2.2 (removing lots of apps i dont use) and now when i go to flash it, recovery says it can not open sd/axura22ve (bad). so i guess its yes and no.
if anyone has any hints on why it wont flash after editing, pleaase help. i delete all apk's in data/app and some stuff in system/app.
edit: i also move launcherpro.apk out of data/app and move it to system/app and delete launcher2.apk, is that doable?
Thank you for the reply I was trying to pull the mms file from auxora and. Add it to eugenes gb clone but when. I removed eugenes mms apk and added the auxora mms apk it wouldn't allow some failure in the zip file so I've been searching for a good post on using root explorer found one and followed but still no luck so if anyone reads this any help would be appreciated

I am trying to find out which files i need to back up (copy to ext sd or pc) to back up my user generated keyboard library/dictionary. I am talking about the GB keyboard as that is really the only keyboard i use. I assume i would have to copy something from the /lib/ directory, im just not sure what. any help would be appreciated.
(no... Titanium backup will not work)
Have you tried copying the entire sd card ? and seeing if that works ?
Haven't done that yet I just wanted to start backing up periodically as I tend to soft brick when working on themes. I guess I will just back up all the libraries just incase

Look in /data/data/.... folder. I use swype and slideit and it saves user added files there. Its proly /data/data/com.gb..or something like that.
ok thank you to the both of you i did find the database for the gingerbread keyboard in the following directory: /data/data/com.android.inputmethod.latin and com.dictionary
HI Guys, i wan´t to replace contacts.apk, mms.apk and a few more. I tried several times to replace them with update.zip (i'm rooted, with CWM). always with error (tried first with amenda and then with edify). Could you please help me? I totally lost.
I attach the .apk's i want to include in update.zip
Thanks in advance!
Ok, finally i did it in a very silly and easy way actually. Just replace .apk's with Android Commander using PC.

Anibody know why are the second original dock icons on S2?
I dont know where you got the apks from but if they came from a certain ROM then the theme from that ROM comes incluced with them. When I downloaded a different dialer for my black/blue themed ROM the phone and contacts icons also changed cos the theme from the dialers ROM changed them.
I've seen previously that you can modify 'more_keys_for_smiley' in LatinIME.apk to modify the predefined smilies in the keyboard ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23362533 ).
I'm trying to do this for LatinImeGoogle.apk.
I've got it decompiled with apktool, but I can't seem to find where 'more_keys_for_smiley' is defined to change it. The only reference to it inside of that apk is in key_styles_common.xml where it has:
<key-style latin:moreKeys="!text/more_keys_for_smiley" latin:backgroundType="functional" latin:keyOutputText=" " latin:keyLabel="" latin:keyLabelFlags="hasPopupHint" latin:styleName="enterKeyStyle" />
Can anyone help me locate more_keys_for_smiley so I can modify it? Does the "!text" refer to a different package?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Ok, thanks to someone's help I was able to figure out that the string is now located in the odex file for the keyboard. I was able to deodex LatinImeGoogle.odex using baksmali and edited the file com/android/inputmethod/keyboard/internal/KeyboardTextsSet.smali. I then used smali to recreate the odex file, but pushing it to my device and rebooting causes the keyboard to not load. Do I need to do anything special with this new odex file?
I tried following tutorials ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1208320 ) and using automatic batch scripts ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31360029 ) for recreating the new odex file and copying the signature from the old one, but I could not get it to work. At best I got the keyboard to load and instantly crash, at worst it wouldn't even load the keyboard upon boot.
Anyone want to offer some advice or take a stab at this?
Seems like your doing exactly what i'm trying to accomplish, and had success, so i'm gonna ask a couple questions, but first some background info.
I'm using a (Verizon) Galaxy Nexus, CM10.1 Clockwork Recovery, GAPPS. (no custom Kernels, etc)
I'm a windows guy, definitely a noob to linux, i'm comfortable following the more complicated instructionals, but traveling off the beaten path is difficult for me.
I was able to use apktool tool to decompile Latinime.apk, and i found KeyboardTextsSet.smali, and the smileys i want modified.
Is it as simple as recompiling and installing it? (remove/uninstall keyboard via TitaniumBackup first?)
You refer to a LatinImeGoogle.odex, is this only relevant to someone using an odexed rom?
I appreciate greatly any assistance you are able to provide!:good:

Yes, you should be able to modify KeyboardTextsSet.smali and then recompile and install the keyboard. I never achieved any success because I'm on an odexed ROM and couldn't get reodexing to work properly.
Tried but no joy, then realized it could be because the apk was from a previous nightly (couple days) than the one currently installed. Crossing my fingers that it's the reason it didn't work.
I'll try again.
