How can I get a solid background in the gallery app? It's impossible to see black text icons for example, when the background also changes to black because it stretches out the image and uses it as a backdrop. I want to disable that effect and just have a solid gray grainy backdrop.

My guess would be a fairly simple xml edit would do the trick, but the hard part would be finding the right place and hoping it doesn't break anything.
I don't want to break anything. Maybe there is another simple gallery app in the market? Anybody know of one?

There's an app called colors, or something to that effect.....

Anyone interested in modifying the framework-res.apk file in stock 1.1.0 to change the text and background colors from the gray text on white background to stock android configuration? The problem is that many apps have hard to read or ghost dialogs and settings boxes. I was thinking that we could use apktool to correct the colors repack and resign to resolve the issue.
Thoughts? Volunteers?

Yes, definitely. For some kind of app, black/dark gray text with black background, and some others white text with white/light background. I can't read anything. Terrible...
I can make a try on my device if any method be released.
I am using gallery to select icons but the icons are black (and alpha transparent the rest) and completely non-visible in the gallery.
I am looking for any kind of Gallery replacement (best if can attach to the system gallery calling action) where the background is customizable or at least is not black

Edit: Sorry I just noticed the black blackground thingy, that probably won't work sorry
I think floating image can be configured to work like a gallery...Not sure though, but background colour is changeable.

@3rdstring: indeed I tried that one and it had just black background
@iinga: thanks but just tried and no go, it is not processing PNG files properly (no background transparency here so all I get all black floating squares) :/
so still looking for one app that can do what gallery does but with different background color ....

You can change the background to white in JustPictures!
It just has rather uncomfortable and not always working system of choosing image for external usage.

Quickpic or Gallery+
I think I just found the answer...
In QuickPic>Settings>General, choose Use light background. You'll need to click on the individual icons in order to see them against the white background.
The other way that "works" for me is to give the icons memorable names, and "view" them in a file manager, such as root explorer.
Hi,
I have little problem with my background color. I use the standard background wallpaper "nexus". The strange thing is that on my homescreens (see pic 1) it is much more lighter as on ther applications screens (see pic 2) the screen is on the lowest light-level.
Why is the color not same??? and is it possible to make the color same?????
Thanks....
Its meant to be like that. Its meant to be a fading effect. If you don't like it try another launcher though that is all you can do. It is normal and not an issue.
so I can not have same color ? ? ? Strange - on my SGS it was 100% same color :-(
If anybody have an idea to get the same color - please tell me....
Samsung changed their touchwiz launcher so it fades the background. Nothing you can do but install a different launcher that doesn't do this.
i made only a black background, thats easy with the app colors.
I made a black background to. Thanks guys

There are some apps that when they do not completely fill the screen, there is a default image on the Droid that fills the space.
In the two examples below (Chomp SMS and K9-Mail), the light grey area at the bottom is actually a fine pattern and not a continuous tone, leading me to believe that it in a stock image file.
Does anyone know how to change this image, or replace it with a solid color? Are there any themes that address this? I'd like to get it to be all black to blend with the color schemes I've chosen in the programs.
Thanks,
Chris
I'm with you, I'd like contact list etc to be white on black instead of black on white/gray
can someone help me i need to change my icons to a specific color and dont know how i have gimp but dont know if it will do it the color i need is bc00ff pls help
which icons. Certain icons are in different apk's.
I don't know of a way to adjust colors based on HTML color codes. The issue is you icon is already colored so how can you make it a HTML color? Best bet? load up the HTML color and the icon and adjust the icon using hue to as close as you can get to the HTML. Thats what I would do and be done. I generally adjust to even numbers so its easy to remember. That and I write it down.
Thats a mighty fine shade of purple.. I used a similar shade on my Vikings Skin.

That's cool you got a gimp template. Could you let me know where from? Also http://html-color-codes.info/ is a cool website to easily look at all the colors/find any colors you want in HTML/understand how HTML colors work.

I do it in gimp. So you decompile OR extract the statusbar icons (I assume those are the ones you want). You have your image (icon) up in gimp. In the left gimp toolbar there's a fore and background color. I usually just dbl click the bg color, type in my desired hex code, which sets the bg color in the bar to the color. Then in the image edit (middle) area, I select by color (the color you want to swap), then I right click the highlighted color area, click edit/use bg color, and it changes the icon to whatever color. Hope this helps. It makes it easy this way since it saves the bg color you want in the left toolbar, that way you don't have to manually edit the hex code for each image. Not ALL icons are that easy but it works for most of them. If you have themeing questions a GREAT place for help is the "intro to themeing" in evo3D themes stickies.
