X10 Messaging App - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am planning on downloading the Handcent SMS app.
If I do, can I uninstall the standard messaging app or do I still need that?
Thanks!

I dont know, but why would you uninstall? Just set in options you dont want a notification and disable the sound, it will not bother you ever again. Handcent is great by the way, highly customizable...

I think if you remove stock you won't get notified at all by handcent.

Contact profile

Hello, I am looking for application that can set a different ringtone, vibration mode for each contact

Just edit the contact through phonebook and assign your ringtones.
Not sure about different vibration modes though.
But in this way I can't set a notification for SMS for any contact.

Of course yes fist you need to root your device then by installing a custom kernel you can get rid of stock app then simply download and instal l new app from market

Another way is download and instal l app from market and disable the notification from options also hide stock app from app drawer

yes you can , thats the whole fun of Andrid OS.
If you go into manage applications in your settings, the "all" tab, scroll down to text messaging. Click on that, scroll down to find a button that says clear defaults. Click that. Now Handcent will open by default and not the stock text messaging.

I think this is the better way, there is no need to root and uninstall the messaging app.
I do the same even after rooting

[Q] Individual NOTIFICATION tone...

Are there any apps available to give each contact an individual NOTIFICATION tone (not ringtone)? I believe you can do it with the Handcent messaging app but does anyone know of a standalone app for use on my Photon (or any Android for that matter).

Only one I know is Handcent and Go SMS that can do this.

MMS/pictures in messages are too small

The pictures I receive are too small in stock messaging app is there a way to change this without changing from stock? If not, what messaging apps are good?

Emojis in Stock messaging app?

Hi all
Is there a way to get Emojis to show in the stock messaging app?
I don't really want to use them but have friends who have iphones and use them and the squares with question marks are annoying
Phone not yet rooted (hopefully Monday!)

I have never used it long enough to find out. I always use GoSMS which has the smiley add on.
