Always wake up to shutdown menu? - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondering if everyone else typically get presented with the shutdown menu when waking the tablet up? I've experienced this on TnT Lite, Vegan and Zpad. Is it just me, is there a fix and does this annoy the pi$$ out of anyone else?

My tablet tends to just shut completely down after a couple of minutes of being in standby. Not sure why. Haven't found a solution...though I admit that I haven't really looked all that hard either.

I have the same problem even on the stock TnT w/OTA update. I called support and they told me it was normal, but I don't believe it. I'm on my second g tab, and the first one I had didn't have this problem (I returned it because the WiFi would show error most of the time).
It's annoying enough to me that I'm thinking of exchanging it.

Mine does it on cmb4

Mine does it sometimes, but I noticed the you can avoid that by waking the tab by pressing the volume keys insead of power button.
Regards,
Rayan

Same problem here. Will try volume keys.

Yeah I got that issue too.
I would assume that the code that puts the device to sleep and wakes it up doesn't cancel the keypress from propagating to the rest of the system, so the system responds to the press of the power key with a shutdown menu, and wakes up.

I ended up exchanging mine yesterday. I just ran a quick test completely stock out of the box and the sleep seems to work properly, though it's fairly sluggish after waking (no OTA updates applied yet).
The bonus was that Sears had it on sale for $349 so I got a few bucks back.

With the Vegan Rom theres no problem talking there tablet in or out of sleep mode, maybe it's got something to do with the standard slide to unlock android feature, but it works great all the time.
Cheers,
Rayanmx

I get it maybe half the time. Noticed it on tnt lite and vegan both.

I am having the same issue on my stock tablet. I am almost positive this started after the December 10 OTA update (3053).

I have this problem every time I set g tab to sleep, I will ask for an exchange.

I wonder if this is something kernel related. Anybody know?
It seems like after 5 minutes or so it just completely turns off rather than staying in standby. Not cool. Highly doubt its anything hardware related.

I have this same issue. My gtab seems to shut down with inactivity, rather than stay in sleep/standby.

Same problem here with vegan 5.1. Does anyone have a solution?

I'm still seeing that menu from time to time.
I can't reproduce the behaviour at will, it just happens totally at random. Except of course if I keep pressing the power button on purpose.
For me, that's the only Gtab annoyance right now.

I was just reading this thread and testing the behavior, and my device just shutdown on me after putting it to sleep!
I was originally going to say that I've seen the shutdown appear from time to time on various ROMs. I think CM7 was the only one I didn't see it as often on.
I pushed the power button to put it to sleep after trying a couple things. Then I read your post above, and when I went to pick it up again, it was already off. I think the tablet has powered off by itself about 3 times since I got it a week ago.
I'm currently on Caulkins v1.1.

this annoyance has been mostly eliminated/greatly reduced.

Thanks, I haven't used your kernel yet, as I haven't wanted to deal with the modules. Since you brought it up though, do I have to run insmod on each bootup, or only the first time (assuming I wanted it at that moment)? I know most modern linux distributions can autoload kernel modules, which is why I ask. Can this kernel autoload modules on bootup? Does android even support that?

they need to be inserted at every boot (whichever you need).
the app(s) you're using may pre-insert them for you.
you can dload gscript, and with one click, insmod everytime you reboot.
you can also stick a script in init.d to do it for you at boot.

[Q] Android FRX04 Screen Issues

I would have posted this in the developments forums, but since im a new member, it wouldnt allow me. Heres the issue:
Running FRX04 android on my Sprint TP CDMA works great, except at random times the screen will become off center and shift to the left. At one point it became so garbled with lines it was unreadable, but came back to normal as I kept tapping the screen. Its almost as if the refresh rate is incorrect. Anyone ever had this issue?
Also, screens touch calibration seems to be off, any way to re-calibrate like in WM?
Thanks in advance!
Have you updated any of the files like the rootfs or the kernel package? Also, you will need to read the first post in THIS thread and replace the file either in the root of your microSD or if you are using the andboot option, in that folder.

Fixed the problem a while back, was related to the kernel, had to switch to a different one. Now everything works great, almost.
Although it is very usable, my problem has been that when when the phone goes to sleep, it will keep the backlight on for a period of time with the screen black. Then at some point the backlight will turn off, i assume a deep sleep. When this happens the phone is completely unresponsive, however the leds around the center button fades as if its charging. Only a soft reset will work.
Thanks again.
I usually don't enable auto back light because that is still being worked on if I'm not mistaken. Instead, I turn off the screen manually. Usually helps to enable pattern lock, for me anyway. Make sure you are updating as there has been some recent updates as of late: FRX05.
n-Joie (Enjoy)
ill give that a shot
I disabled all backlight features in WinMo and Android and everything works perfect. Thanks. However my GPS has never worked, just says aquiring until it times out saying that it couldn't find any satellites.
I believe GPS is disabled by default. This may or may not be listed as such but I think I recall reading this somewhere (maybe IRC logs?). Unfortunately, this is something the devs are still working on and hoping someone "fixes" it eventually...
Im not worried about gps at all, if i need it I can use WinMo. Been using android exclusively on my TP for 2 days now and it works great. Battery life is great too.
Have you tried out the camera yet? I tried it out the first time yesterday and I was stunned! Don't think I ever saw the camera work in Android before so to say the least I smiled when I tapped the camera icon and saw what the camera was pointing at... Even though it seemed like it hung after it took the picture, I may have been a tad impatient with it at the time as I was slightly excited!
Very nice!
I have not tried the camera yet unfortunately. I will right now and post back. Ive had pretty low expectations so im not like others and complaining by any means.
Additionally, it helps to have that sort of mentality. Not required but by all means it does help to be helpful!

You cant expect too much when your running a non-native os on an unsupported device. I used to be a big member of the xbox dev forums back in the day. So i can understand the users that complain when things are in alpha stage. I guess I can start posting in the development forums now that im over 10 posts.
My camera didnt work when I tried it by the way. black screen area then showed a crash message. Like I said no big deal, usability I would say is still excellent. If i need to use gps or camera ill just use winmo till then, no biggie!

Could you explain how you fixed your screen issue going off center and shifting to the left...I am having same problem
I downgraded my kernel. Can't remember which one I used in frx04 as I lost my SD card with 04 on it and have since been using FRX05 which worked as downloaded with no changes to the kernel needed. If you look at the FRX04 thread in the beginning, there is a reference to Touch Pro users having to use a different kernel (1225 I think), and I just down, loaded it and extracted it overwriting the kernel that came with FRX04. I haven't tried FRX06, but tried the GBXOA gingerbread bundle today on another SD card and it seemed too buggy for my liking, crashed in the XDA Dev app while trying to reply to your post. Sure loos and flows nie tho. Try using FRX05 or 06, rather than 04..

[Q] Tab Keeps turning off more often now?

Lately my tab has been turning off by itself and it takes me a long time to turn it back on by holding the power button. Has a fix been found for this problem yet? I'm a little worried that one day the thing won't turn on again. Sometimes the tab is charged when it turns off, and I'm never using the thing when it does, so battery isn't really the issue. Any suggestions?

Are you rooted? Running a custom ROM? Running any extra mods at all?
No, I'm fully stock, never been rooted. Willing to root if the problem can be fixed though through a rom or something
i've made good strides in combating this.
But, you must have CWM installed in order to flash.
When you are ready to do this, then head over to the dev section, kernel thread.
In the meantime, set wifi to never sleep, and see if that cures some of it.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

To be honest if you have a completely stock machine I would call samsung and get them to check it, it sounds faulty. I work for a large computer retailler and haven't seen a single one behaving like yours out of hundreds.

[Q] random lag

anyone else getting this? every once in a while i'll try to go to another page on my home screen and it will just stick for about 10 seconds at a time. this seems to continue for a while, but a restart seems to fix it.

Are you rooted or stock?
If rooted what recovery/ROM are you using?
Your phone could simply have issues (faulty hardware/software) because it shouldn't lag even if you're on stock. You might be leaning towards getting a replacement pending on how long you've had it.
And do try to post in the correct section next time (Q&A).
I have the same issue occassionally.
It isn't enough to be a problem but, every so often it acts a little weird.
Sometimes it just feels like it's not registering things then it pops up a few seconds later. Case in point the app drawer won't move then it starts moving later. I'm on a debloated rom and I'm personally thinking it's a software issue. I would guess some process is getting hung up or something.
I don't see anything like this.
Between excellent LTE coverage in DFW area and the internals, I do not wait for anything... EVER

sorry for posting in the wrong section
Moved to Q&A
I experience this occasionally too, I hope it's just software, other than that a simple restart does the trick, I notice it only happens in the home screen, when you open an app its fine
Thrown up by my LG Optimus G, why you jelly at my superior phone?
ive identified at least one cause of it.
i use widgetsoid as my power control, and whenever i use the torch function on it, it causes the lag on my phone. every other feature seems to have no performance effect.
can anyone else confirm this?

[Q] Unresponsive

Every so often, my G3 will become unresponsive. Usually happens right after the screen comes on - the interface freezes. Pressing the power button does nothing, pressing and holding the power button does nothing. I have to remove the battery in order to reset the phone.
I did search the forums, but was not able to find any similar threads or posts, was curious if I was the only one having this problem. Any ideas what might be causing this? Anyone else have any luck identifying root cause and correcting the issue?
Appreciate any help you guys can provide.

If the problem goes away on Dalvik, I would suspect you have some app installed that gets activated on startup, and isn't 100% compatible with ART. While most apps work fine with ART, not all do. Google has made it clear that the version of ART on KitKat is experimental, and the version on 'L' will be much different.
I'm on dalvik and my phone has started this. Not sure what I've changed in the last days. Running alogcat but since starting I can't reproduce it.
I ran into this problem a while back. Since I never used the LG Keyboard I tried to freeze and/or Greenify the darn thing but that caused the phone to just pause for an extended period of time when waking up. Apparently it really wants LG Keyboard to be around. So I just made sure it wasn't the default keyboard. The phone never really became permanently unresponsive; after fifteen to twenty minutes it finally woke up. But who wants that?
Reverting back to Dalvik appeared to do the trick. It's been a few days, and my device hasn't locked-up/become unresponsive since making the change. Normally I would experience one lock-up/unresponsive event once a day, or every other day.

I have had Google Keyboard set to default input since I purchased my G3; LG Keyboard left a lot to be desired in terms of performance and functionality. I never witnessed my device "wake up" like you described, but to be fair I never let it go for that long, either. Usually after 5 minutes or so my patience would wane and the battery would be pulled. And to your point, no one, and I mean no one, wants to wait 15-20 minutes for their device to return to a usable state.

Why are you trying to use ART,moron? ART is explicitly experimental. Use dalvik (like you're supposed to) and see if you still have lockups (which hpu won't, if you use the runtime that is already long established for running android). Duh.

Many users have switched to ART and have seen an improvement in performance. It seems to be device specific as to whether you will encounter issues or not. That being said, I don't think it warranted the "moron" name tag. Just trying to keep the forum friendly.

HAM2 quick snow flash on boot

Hello! I just got a new unlocked HAM2 from B&H yesterday. It works really well, but one thing that is kind of weird about it is that when you boot it there is a very, very quick flash of snow (like when an older television has no signal or the HBO logo snow) right before the Huawei logo bootscreen. Otherwise, the device seems to be working normally. It has the latest stock firmware installed from box and I have done no modifications to the phone. I was just curious if anyone has this strange, seemingly harmless glitch on their phone on boot or reboot. Also, is it something to exchange it over? I guess I was just worried it was a hardware problem or something that might get worse in the future. I know I have had Linux machines that do strange things in the past when initializing video on boot, so maybe it's just a software issue with the stock ROM. Thanks so much.
Weird. I've never heard of this before.
If you just got it, maybe you could try doing a reset? Resets have fixed some bugs for me and possibly a few others.

Thanks so much for your response. I just tried a reset but no luck. I used the VOL UP plus POWER method on boot to do it. I just posted a few screenshots of a video I took to give you an idea of what it looks like. On the off state, two during the snow state, and one after the snow state (seemingly normal). Imagine it as a very, very fast flash. If you blink you miss it. Probably happens over the course of just half a second. Maybe it's something to do with the LCD panel initializing or something.
EDIT1: I also wanted to note that the screen does not do this when it goes to sleep or is woken from sleep. Only during the initial powering on of the device.
EDIT2: One more note, the device came with build MT2-L03V100R001C00B148 installed from factory.

By "snow", do you mean static or noise? The screen looks a bit staticy or noisy in those pictures. The only thing I can think of is maybe some of the animation images are somehow corrupted. The boot animation is just a bunch of .PNG images shown in succession pretty quickly. This might explain why you see that stuff in a split second every time you boot.
Same here, as of today. I've owned mine for about 3 months, and it just did the static-y flash thing you explained. I remembered this thread, actually, so when it happened I decided to come track this thread down.
Mine is rooted and tweaked, however. Stock ROM, unlocked bootloader. Everything has been mostly fine (except my phone learned a new trick it likes: "Flip the video orientation randomly when someone's watching youtube! Yay, upside-down!"
Other than the occasional tempermental quirks, it's been running smooth. So I'm not sure of what could be causing this. But if more people state theyre having this issue, maybe it'll be further looked into!

It is odd, hopefully it's nothing serious to worry about. It'd be a shame if it were to become a problem, as I've really been enjoying this device.
And I've been checking about the video orientation bug, but I can't think of anything I may have changed that would alter it. It's very random, and seems to only occur within MX Player. May be limited to that app only. A reinstallation might fix that, but configuring the orientation to "force auto-rotation" within the App Settings module has ceased the issue.
