X10 Battery gets very hot and discharges fast - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For the last couple of days after taking my X10a off the charger, I noticed that within a time span of 2 hours, the baterry will discharge from 100% to 81%, without me using the phone. I have also noticed that if I use the phone for more than 10 minutes, watching videos, playing music or surfing the battery gets very hot.
I am think about downgrading back to 1.6 and run SEUS to get 2.1 back. I am currrently running 2.1 from Rogers.
Any inputs will be appreciated.
Thanks

same story here.... en while charging, my phone crashes!

Last night when I was using the phone, surfing the web and playing video (10 minute usage, battery at 55%), the battery became hot, I can feel it on the back cover, I pulled the battery out and then put it back after 5 minutes, turned and on and noticed that the battery dropped down to 1%. I rebooted a few times and then noticed after 15 minutes the battery level indicator rising slowly.
When the battery is hot and I take it out and smell the inside, there is a burning smell. I think the unit is defective.
This will and might be my last SE. I will be upgrading to the Iphone 4 by next week hopefully.

good luck, with the iphone, maybe you should replace battery, as that is the cause of awkward battery drainage and also try to flash a different firmware or reset it back to factory default

I would sugest to check current consumption of your phone.

same problem here ....
i really don't want the restarting problem on my new x10
and btw where does the burning smell coming from ... i really don't like it

I am very tempted to get the iphone 4..is it any good?
The current issue that I have was from before I even upgraded to 2.1..it started sometime after two months of having the X10...

If u take the battery off and smell the inside where the battery goes, you will notice the smell.

*bump bump*
For the last few days my battery has been draining waaaay too quick and I've experienced alot of restarts.. I've had the overheating and burning smell for ages though.
I think it's a bit random that this is suddenly happening now seeing as I've nearly had the phone a year..
Anyone got any ideas on why this is happening?

[Q] Concering batterystats and major battery level problems.

Alright, before you tell me to remove batterystats.bin and move along read this carefully.
I've had my HTC Legend for about 8(?) months now. Around the same time, my mum also bought one. I rooted mine, flashed CM 7.0.0, up to the newest nightly now. She left it as she got it, only upgraded to Froyo when the update came out. Everything is working great, except for the battery statistics.
Around 4 months ago my mother first complained about her battery not charging to 100%. It got worse over the weeks, and the battery level also started dropping faster and faster. It has gotten to the point where, when she gets it off the charger in the morning, it's around 52% (Even though it's been charging for forever, and should theoretically easily be on 100%). After about 5(!) minutes of using the phone, it will have dropped to a 2% battery. Battery life, however, is hardly suffering. She can just walk around with a 2% battery for the rest of the day. Obviously the batterystats are totally ****ed up. After 2-3 months my phone started doing the same, except it does it less severe. I can only charge to 50~60% as well too.
Around this point, I started looking around, and found about how android saves it's battery levels. I rooted and flashed my phone, and using fake flash, I booted into Clockwork recovery, mounted /System (S-on phone, can't edit system when phone is on, still no s-off for hboot 1.01..) and removed the batterystats.bin. I did in a couple of ways now, including the build-in option and using Android Commander. My phone, however, still won't charge past certain numbers.
Now my questions to everyone here is: Did anyone else have problems like these? Any solutions you'd like to suggest? Are batterystats/total voltage also saved somewhere else?
I'd like to point out that the battery itself is not damaged or anything. When my mum's phone had these problems, and mine didn't yet, we tested her battery in my phone, and it would charge to 100% just fine, and the levels weren't messed up.
Her problems started around the time she flashed Froyo from the official update. I can see how flashing a new rom messes up the batterystats.bin, but apparently that's not the only file being wrong?
Any suggestions are VERY welcome.
Tl;dr: Phone battery won't charge past 50% or so, battery level drops to 1% in 5 minutes.
EDIT 1: My mum send her Legend to HTC to get it ''fixed'' THREE weeks ago. She got it back today, them saying it was fixed. After a good 10 hours in the charger it still won't go to 100%, and after 30 minutes the battery levels dropped from 70% to 1%. I think it's quite shocking how HTC can say something is fixed without even trying to charge it to 100%.
you can try this, can't hurt
Turn your phone on and charge it for 8 hours or more
Unplug the charger
Turn your phone off and charge it for one hour
Unplug the charger
Turn on the phone and wait 2 minutes
Turn your phone off and charge it for one hour
Unplug, turn it on and use as normal.

Thanks for the reply,
sad to say I've already followed steps like these atleast three times. Including charging without entering pin, when off, when on, etc etc. Still, thanks for the suggestion.
no such problem yet ... but i'd be interested to know if you were able to resolve it... it cant be a coincidence both you and your mom 's battery levels acting up.

Could be so, but I don't think we're the only people in the whole world to have this problem. I'll keep this thread updated with any information I might stumble across and any other solutions tried. If anyone could tell me where the maximum values for the battery are stored in android it'd be great, seeing how deleting the batterstats.bin file didn't help, there must be another file in android tracking battery..
Hi,
so you're not alone. My Legend is showing the exact same symptoms.
I bought my Legend used via ebay and the seller told that the battery won't fully charge. No problem i thought, just buy a new battery.
Even with the new battery it won't charge more than 60% and it decreases to 10% in 5 minutes.
Just had a test. Even with 60% power at the beginning and 10% after 5 minutes it still was working for 80 hours!
unfortunately i don't know when the probs started to occur. My legend is also with the official Froyo flashed.

Mario

Everyone seems to have this problem since Froyo. HTC fixes it by replacing the motherboard, which basically means they replace 90% of the phone... So basically, there is no real fix around. :/
seem like hardware fault..

Could be so, but it seems strange as the problem starts occuring after flashing to froyo. [Even though going back to eclair doesn't seem to fix it..]

Is my battery broken?

Hey guys,
I have had my Galaxy S2 for over a year now. I have not always had great battery life but I blame that on my providers ****ty 3G connection.
My longest battery life I had on Hydra h2o ICS rom and that was about 2 days with 2.5h screen time. Those were the good old days.
Now I'm on Vanilla RB with the DorimanX kernel and am getting a little concerned if my battery could be failing me.
I have tried for some time now to get stable, good battery life on the JB ROMs and it doesn't seem to be working. This is my case:
I charge my phone at night and use it over the day. The past weeks my phone has really been heating up and the battery is draining to near-zero levels within 2 hours of screentime. For instance I was playing a game the other day for about an hour on and off and lost 70% of my battery. The thing is that when the battery drains this quickly it always seems to slowly increase as the day goes by and if this happens, the phone can hang for an hour or two on the last 2%.
This I find really strange and have tried numerous times recalibrating the battery and doing cycles and everything I have thought of. I don't have any strange wakelocks that can explain this drainage.
For instance my phone completely died on me this morning after rebooting it at 50% and it booted up with 1% left. I then took the battery out and waited a couple of minutes. In the process I checked the battery out and it smelled strange. I also thought i noticed a slight bulge on one of the flat sides of it. When I popped it back in and booted my phone it was at 13% and slowly increased to 22% before starting to discharge again.
What I'm wondering is if my battery is broken and I should buy a new one of eBay?
edit: Right now I was charging it and rebooted. It went from 22% to 63%. Isn't this just a bit strange?
If you detect a slight bugle one side of the battery.
It means it is time to change the battery before it burst.
The battery is not hold a proper charge or discharge it properly, itr could be one of the filaments maybe damaged in the bulging area.
Okay, is there any aftermarket battery that is better than the stock Samsung one?
I also have the same problem after flashing on stock ROM. Solved with app "battery repair". Honestly it was not original (replacement) battery, but it still works well.

Yes, multiple calibration attempts.
But it's the bulge on the battery that has me concerned. It´s even ath the point where my back cover can't hold back anymore and sometimes comes loose where the battery is bulging.
One thing I'm noticing is that in AnTuTu Tester it shows the battery at higher voltages than the 3.7V on the back of the battery. So far I've noticed this go as high as 4.2V.
Is this something that is not ok? If not, could it be my phone or my battery's fault.
edit: 3.2V now during testing...
edit2: went all the way down to 2.7V during the testing (about an hour passed) and I experienced heavy screen flickering at around 22% left of battery and then the phone just shut down. Battery temp was at 39° right before shutdown.
Just recieved a new 1650 mAh battery today in the mail. Gonna give it a few cycles and post the results here.

Battery Too Hot Notification

So lately my 1.5 year old Galaxy Alpha running Lollipop (never rooted or modded) started having poor battery life. It used to shut off at 1% battery life. But started to die at even 15% recently. Now this past weekend I was on vacation and a few times the phone died at approx 35% and wouldn't turn back on without a charge first. And when it did come back on the time and date were very!! far off although I was in air plane mode but still seemed odd. A few days later I had it plugged in over night as I always do and saw that the phone was very hot in the morning in my hand. I unlocked it and a notification was up. Cant remember word for word but something along the lines of "battery too hot to charge". It would not charge, I've tried to pulled the battery and reinsert it etc. The odd time it will show on the screen that it is charging but it is stops very quickly. Is this normal for a 1.5 year old battery? Will a new battery solve this problem? I've had no issues with the charging port on this phone. The only problem I've had with this phone is the fingerprint scanner but I've opted to just not use it.
Basically I am hoping someone else has had similar symptons. I hope its not hardware and hoping its as simple as a new battery. But hate to order one and wait a week to find it hasn't helped. Thanks so much for reading this and hope to hear from you guys!

Redmi Note 4 Dead battery?

Hi to all.
Strange things are happening with my battery, phone...
In last few days my battery can't hold much. It drains very fast, i mean very very fast. When i use the phone, maybe it can hold for 1 hour and more. Just browsing, chat, nothing special. When i put the phone to the charger it's also charging very fast, and even,it's skipping the numbers. For example, i'm looking at my phone, it's 19%, and for another moment it's 21-22%, maybe 15-20 seconds difference, literally you can see numbers skipping. Also, for example, i have now 45% battery, it's not on charger, and the second moment when you look at the phone it's 48%, that usually happens when the phone is in sleep or stanby mode, call it whatever you want.
I won't try flashing ROMs , factory reset etc... because the same thing happens when the phone it's turned off. I mean, the fast charging and skipping problem.
I don't have any problem with heating. The phone works as usuall, it's fast and everything. Well, from my earlier experience, the battery is probably dead. I even ordered a new one, but it will take a few weeks to arrive from China.
I will post also a screenshot of battery stats, and i will mark the parts where you can see the percentage of battery going up, even when it's not on charger (what the heck).
Does anybody have this kind of or similiar experience/problem? Not on the same phone, i meant in other phones also. Could be there some problem with motherboard, charging, or something else?
Here's the screenshot. I hope everybody will understand what am i talking about.

I'm wondering if you have a hardware issue, you stated in another thread your battery was charging in an hour, now that is very unusual to me.
It should be around +/- 2hrs with phone switched off.

Well i'm also wondering. I will found out probably soon, when i get the new battery. From the start, when i bought the phone it always took less than 2 hours to charge, later that changed a little bit. The charging got faster over time. I was never thinking to much about it. The phone is really useless now, at the moment i don't have another phone. I was thinking buying a new one, but i will probably wait to see the results when i change the battetry.

Hi to All, and Hi to you Wilderone!
As i already wrote, i was waiting for the battery to arrive, and it arrived yesterday. I replaced the battery, it was charged already to 41%. For now, the battery is holding quite good. No "problem" while charging either. It takes now approx. 1 hour and 50 minutes to charge from 0 to 100%. Before, it was approx 70 minutes. I can't tell yet anything about the battery life, because it was charged only one time, and i didn't use it much from yesterday because i was working all the day, but i hope i will be able to post battery stats in a few days. So i hope that it was only bad battery, and that there is no problem with motherboard or with the Charging PCB. Will keep you informed.

Mate 10 Pro - Battery percentage out of the box

Hi all, this may seem like a strange question.
Just got a new Mate 10 Pro, and when I switched it on for the first time the battery percentage was at 42%. I've read somewhere that as a general rule for new phones, batteries are normally between 50 and 60% out of the box, and if it is anything less this could be a sign that the battery is faulty (e.g. can't hold charge for long). Also my last few phones have actually been around 50-60%, so was a little concerned to see it at 42%.
Does anyone know if this is true or what I've read is a load of rubbish?
Don't want to return phone but will if I have to.
Thanks.
I had mine with 34%. Some even got them at 0%. Try charging and see if it charges fast. And then use the phone. If all seems normal than there's no problem.
But that's is really weird,i saw 3 new mate 10 that came with dead battery, I'm sure that's not normal.
I'm thinking that while the phones were shipped they turned on automatically and drained the battery.
..
I spoke to Huawei and they say they've had multiple cases of battery being below 60% due to phones being accidently turned on in transit. They suggested charging to 100%, then leaving phone in airplane mode overnight with all apps closed and seeing how much the battery drains. Anything above 96% is a good battery apparently.

Same here!!!!
Completely dead!!!!!
Mine was stone dead out of the box. Zero %. !!! Charged it up.... took an hour and a bit to get to 100%. Used it for just over a week now and battery is fine and dandy... Drops a couple of percent overnight... Lasts forever during the day. Really is a monster battery. Seen quite a few reports of zero % out of the box (which is pretty unusual....most phones I've had seem to be about 60%) but doesn't seem to be an issue... maybe that's how they ship them now...for whatever reason ???? Anyway, seems to be a non-issue.
Same thing. My first mobile with dead battery after I opened box. But about 10minutes I had same percent I can use.
Odesláno z mého BLA-L29 pomocí Tapatalk
mines had 12% i never switched it on plugged in the charger as i like to start with 100% battery while setting up a new phone.
Guys, the battery measurements seem to be screwed up at first. Even when I switched phone off, it drained like 10%. However, after about 3 full charges, everything is great. Still at 100% in 2 days (yeah, I left it off for 2 days just to check). So, my theory is just that the phone needs to calibrate its measurement of the charge percentage.
My pro came with dead battery too.
Same here, dead battery. After first charging, is working just fine.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Mine was around 60%
My Mate 10 standard was at about 87‰.
Mine came dead too, i was very concerend and also started a new thread about it here. Relived to see that many have the same "problem" so far I am loosing about 10% overnight with wifi and all enabled. Seems a lot to be honest but I am going to try it for a few weeks to see what happens...

With wifi, there might be some background app processes running that are draining battery life. Try it without wifi. You should lose less than 5%.
mine completely dead on arrival...I also notice that the power button easily press n get the phone to restart few times for me...
They're supposed to charge it till its full on the first time to optimise it
I'm surprised so many Mate 10 Pro's have been delivered dead or with minimum percentage. Mine switched itself off at 10% so seems like there is some calibration issues too. Hopefully these will work themselves out after a few charges, not sure if it's because the phone is so new (maybe first batch niggles?), but didn't have any of these issues with my Mate 9.
How are people's batteries that came dead or with minimum percentage performing so far?

Very well, no issues with battery life so far. Mine came dad and acted up quite a bit in the beginning.
