[Q] Problems with flashing from SD - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Need some advice here. Firstly, my usb port is broken so I am unable to connect to activesync and I am charging my battery with an external charger.
I need to get my phone back to stock so I can get it sent away for repair.
I have followed the instructions to use the SD card but when it initially turns on to bootloader it flashes up the white screen saying "loading" for like half a second then reverts back to the red, green, blue screen with serial on the bottom. I have tried 2 stock roms and now the same thing. (It has been formatted to FAT32 and tried using the phone to do it as well as the PC through a card reader)
My current SPL - 2.08 HSPL 8G XE
Radio - 2.15.50.14
ROM - HD20 (6.5.3)
I'm not sure if the above make a difference though as surely this is all replaced when you flash a stock rom.
I've been reading various posts for hours but I am at a loss now. Please help!
Kelly

What size of SD card are you using? As there is known problems with 8GB and 16GB SD cards.

Ahhh yeah 8gb...i'll look out my 2gb and try that one. Thanks for the heads up

Yaaaay you rock Thanks it's currently updating now!

Since you are doing an SD card flash. Does the SPL revert back to stock or is it still HSPL?
Having never had the need to do this, I hear reports that it flashes back to SPL and others that it doesn't.

Yup it's reverted back to stock...no trace of HSPL at all

Hey Kelly!
Just on another note... you need to get the usb port fixed to reinstall HSPL.
Currently i haven't found any method of installing HSPL via micro sd.
Looks like i'll be spending a good few hours in work soldering micro usb connectors!

Unable to start flashing from SD Card, HELP!

Hi all,
For some reason my car charger has fried the USB port on my M3100 so I can no longer charge or sync it. Orange are sending a replacement out tomorrow, but I had just upgraded the phone to the new HTC Rom. Obviously I need to get it back to being the Orange one.
As I can't do it via USB I am trying to flash the Orange ROM on using the SD method. However, when the phone resets after PWR+OK+SoftReset all I get is the tricolour screen with the following on it:
HERM100
IPL-1.01
HERM100
SPL-1.40.Olpro
Serial
I've extracted the .nbh file from the Orange .exe and have formatted my SD card as both FAT & FAT32 in Vista but with no luck. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance folks,
Bobby
Rename the .NBH file to HERMIMG.nbh and copy it to the root folder of your microSD card. Make sure there is NOTHING else on the card.
I've formatted the card twice and put just the renamed HERMIMG.nbh file on it but it still doesn't work. I've never had a problem with the SD slot, or the card, so I don't think it could be that.
Funny, but i remember that it did not work here too... Flash just did not start at all, even if there was HERMIMG.nbh, and it was the only file on the card... Tried both FAT32 and FAT too. Funny. It was in the case of X01HT 1.09 original bootloader, if I remember right...
Did you have any luck getting it to work? Or is it looking like I should have an unfortunate accident with some h2o before they come for it?
try doing the same with SSPL if you can't get it to work from bootloader, or try using another microSD card. Or try resetting a few times... but don't throw h2o on it!
I can't get anything to work via the miniUSB port so nothing that runs on the PC will help. I've just noticed that the tricolour screen comes on, then for a fraction of a second the screen goes grey with 'Loading No Image Found' then back to the tricolour.
The only other SD I can get my hands on is the same make as mine, so I doubt it would make any difference. And I've reset it loads of times while doing this but still nothing. I've tried sticking another nbh file on the card to see if it was just the Orange one it couldn't see, but a radio only one still didn't work.
It had all been going so well...
Hold on, I might have cracked it...
Nope, not yet. It gets as far as showing EXTROM - OK and the progress bar gets about a quarter of the way along then it seems to lock up. The bar hadn't moved for well over 10 mins, so I've soft reset it. Its has the first Orange splash screen now, but the rest is still the HTC ROM. Its a start I suppose.
Hurrah! Rejoice! Its worked, and is back to the slow old crippled Orange ROM. Thanks for your help folks, much appriciated.
Roll on tomorrow night when I get to update my new one all over again!

[Q]

my TMOUS htc hd2 screen is no longer responsive to any sort of finger movement so i want to return it because my warranty still covers it, but in order to do that i need to put it back to stock ROM, and thats not happening because i cant get bootloader to start, i get the tricolor screen and it flashes gray then it stays on the tricolor screen, even though i copied the LEOIMG.nbh into the sd card, also did a complete format for the sd card before.
i cant start bootloader.exe from the phone because the screen doesnt respond to touching, all buttons work fine but thats not enough.
any ideas on how to get around this and get bootloader to start ? im out of options here ive looked it up for hours with no solution, someone else was having a similar problem and it was fixed when he did a complete format to the sd card instead of a quick one, i did that twice already.
Is there any reason you can't connect to a computer to flash? That's the only other way I know that would let you flash another ROM.
flashing a ROM isnt the problem, because i can get the stock rom on it but i need to also take HSPL out i need the radio to be the way it was when i got it and the only way that i know of to do that is by bootloader
If you flash a stock ROM even from the computer, that will usually include a radio, so you should be ok as far as the radio. HSPL should be able to be undone from the computer as well using HSPL2/HSPL3 and choosing the normal SPL from the list.

[Q] Hd2 stop when flashing an original rom bu Sd card

Good
I'm very sorry to be "upset"with this subject, but I'm desperate and really need to get my hd2 meeting and I see no solution and I'm really super desperate
I have a htc hd2 and had made a HSPL 1.61.00 to upgrade to the latest radio.
Now after some time I decided to update the rom to official rom, but I made a task 29, and tried to make the SD flash.
This went wrong and now I can not do any flash or boot by the mobile phone gets stuck with the screen saying "loading" after passing the phase of bootload.
I dont know how to do , i bricked my phone , and i need help because i dont understand this :s
I'm not an expert in WM but ive done some flashes in other htc devices.
Some portuguese can help me plese?
Algum portugues me pode ajudar por favor ?
Best Regards
Hi,
I think as long as your pone get´s into bootloader mode, it shouldn´t be bricked.
Did you try to put HSPL 2.08 on it, and then flash the origial ROM via USB?
Did you use the Gold Card method to flash from SD Card?
Did you check this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=534 ?
pronor
Flashing from SD card.
1. How is it formatted?
2. How big is it the card (Storage wise)?.
Always seems to work with my 2gb SD card formatted as FAT32 & Default Allocation size.
I know, this topic is old, but I have the same problem.
I tried via USB and via different SD-Cards and no matter what hspl, no matter what rom, it always stops at 10%. I also tried Task 29 etc....
Broken, right?
Edit:
Alright, after around 30 tries, I managed to get a Radio installed. The phone only boots when you take out the battery for a couple minutes. The stock ROM update failed again at 8% again. I managed to flash the smallest 6.1 ROM, but the phone won't boot. The phone also sometimes vibrates 7 times. I guess, the flash memory is corrupted or something. Probably happened when flashing magldr. Other people have experienced the same...

[Q] resume factory settings htc hd2???

Hi,
two months ago i installed wm7 on my hd2, this week the touch screen broke down, it doesn't respond to anything. I thought that it was a ROM problem so first i had reinstalled wm7, but nothing changed, then i reinstalled the original rom (that i downloded from Htc support) and was the same. I'm supposing that it is an hardware problem, so i want to take it to the assistance (because the warranty is still valid). Now the problem is how i can delete all the programs that i installed to run wm7 (mgdlr, spl...), so my hd2 seems like new with all factory settings ?
THANK YOU

Can you go into bootloader mode?
If yes, try to flash stock rom via micro sd card.
If not, then I dont think they will know the content of your phone
Like the post said above get the correct stock ROM for your HD2 and flash it via SD card. This will revert your HSPL back to the correct SPL too whrn you flash it. If you flash it via RUU (USB) then you will have to use HSPL 4 to revert your HSPL back to SPL, but make sure you choose the correct SPL version for tbe ROM you have. Once you have SPL and thee stock ROM back on the phone you are good for warranty. Also seeing as you was using WP7 you will have to find a formatting software that will remove the RAID format that WP7 puts on your SD card and reformat your SD card with Fat 32 for you to be able to flash via SD card. Youcan also just stick your SD card in a micro Sd to mini Sd card adaptor and then stick it in a digital camera to remove the RAID, but you will still have to format it with your computer using Fat 32.
But unlike the post above yes they will know what software is on your HD2 so if it is not comletely stock they will not cover it under warranty.

Ups...really Assuming the device is completely dead or bootloader file is corrupted (cannot boot), is there a way to access the bootfiles in the NAND in such situation?

Not exactly sure if you can see what software is in the NAND memory when you use a JTAG, but I think it is possible as the JTAG gives you a direct connection and access to the NAND chip. I will have to find the answer to this question and post back here in this thread.
The OP does not have a bricked HD2 though they just have a non responsive touch screen and need it repaired. So in thos case yes HTC would most definitly see the wrong software on the HD2.

[Q] Bricked Trying to Revert to Stock WinMo

I think I may have bricked my OG HD2 (T8585) while trying to undo everything I had done to it, which was HSPL, MAGLDR and a NAND Android ROM.
It all started when I first tried to flash Kingdom's Sense 3.0 Gingerbread ROM. It told me to create a 340MB partition using HD2 Toolkit which I did. I then flashed the ROM as per the instructions, but it kept getting stuck on the boot logo so I decided to go back all the way to stock WinMo.
I downloaded a stock 1.66 ROM from HTC's website, tried to flash it via USB which failed because I obviously have no ActiveSync in Android. So I loaded the image onto my SD card and tried to flash by holding Vol Down and Power.
That was the first sign of trouble, about 1/10th during upgrade process it gave me some errors and rebooted to a black screen with a silver warning triangle.
Trying to go back into bootloader, I got the message about "upgrade ROM code error."
Since it had reverted back to SPL 1.42 I tried to reflash HSPL2 through USB, which worked fine, got the "We bricked it " message and everything. But then I tried to install MAGLDR and nothing, it fails even though it recognizes the USB connection.
So what can I do? On the one hand my device can accept and load HSPL2 and my computer is recogonizing the USB connection, but other than that nothing, it won't even turn on without being connected to external or USB power.
I also tried installing stock 1.43 ROM and that goes fine, it gives me an okay on everything but it gets stuck in the white HTC bootscreen in a loop.
I know I probably made a huge glaring mistaking to cause this, it's probably because I've bought a Transformer tablet and a Galaxy S2 in the last month so the steps regarding the HD2 were probably a bit of a blur. I guess the stock ROM probably included a radio that I wasn't supposed to flash, causing my device to be bricked.
But is there anyway I can get some type of OS working on this poor HD2 now?
She lives!!!
Okay, I'm not actually sure if the problem is solved but I'm back in WinMo 6.5 for the time being.
Since it had been off for a few hours I tried my luck again, plugged it into the wall and saw that it was stuck in the boot loop again. But I got distracted and left it, and when I came back it was on the orange WinMo setup screen.
Not sure what happened to make it go from not even getting power from the battery to working normally. But I see now my radio version is 2.05 which is massively old, I'm going to try and upgrade that first and see... hopefully it won't go back to being dead the moment I power down.

I had pretty much the same problem as you, but mine is the tmobile us version. I tried flashing back winmo from android via sdcard method but i got an upgrade error. I tried flashing with microSD card sizes 8gb, 16,gb, and then 2gb which was recommended, but still no luck. I managed to connect the hd2 through usb on the tricolor screen and flashed back to hspl2.08 and magldr and cwm were still on. But i would like to still get back to winmo stock as if it came from tmobile.
My question is if i download the latest update from tmobile which is T-Mobile HD2 MR Software (Version 3.14.531.1), what is the correct spl i should have installed on the hd2 so that htc and tmobile wont know that i messed with the spl? is it 3.03? I was going to connect via USB on the tri color screen again, run the EXE and manually install the SPL? I just need to know which SPL to install after i run the latest winmo update. Please advise on the SPL and the method i'm going to take on reverting back to winmo. Thanks.

So it sounds like you lucked out, huh? So your HD2 works at least? I believe if you succesfully flash an official ROM like from T-Mobile, it will replace everything including the SPL back to stock - this is what I was trying to do by flashing official 1.43, to go back to factory mode.
I seem to be worse off than you though. I posted last night how my HD2 was back up running WinMo, but as suspected the moment I rebooted it was back stuck in the boot loop.
Any ideas? I wish I could get the HD2 working again so I could set it aside and get to playing with my new Galaxy S2.
This is driving me crazy now...
I managed to flash HSPL 2.08, and then MAGLDR 1.3, and then CWM recovery on top.
But this still seems bricked to me, still needs external power to turn on and I can't actually flash a working ROM... flashing a ROM via USB gives connection error and flashing via SD card goes fine but gets stuck in a boot loop.
What can I do at this point short of tossing the phone? I've tried stock 1.48, stock 1.66, a bunch of radios from 2.05 to 2.15... everything.
I am doing some research but the only results I find are T-Mo HD2s being bricked by the wrong radio. I have an original HD2 and I never flashed a radio intended for another HD2 model, so how is my phone so bricked all of a sudden?
All the threads I've found say if you can get into the bootloader then there's some hope but I doubt it because I can't successfully flash anything with it. I don't even know how I managed to get back into WinMo briefly last night... think my HD2 is probably just toast.
Okay, I finally solved my problems for sure - bent charging leads in the battery compartment!
Anyone having boot issues, take out your battery and look at the metal leads and you will probably find them bent out of shape. They are incredibly flexible, so just make them straight again and it will work. I assume it cuts external power briefly right before booting into WinMo, which is why it was rebooting constantly.
So I suppose for me this was a huge case of confusion, I got all confused with bootloaders and MAGLDRs when the problem wasn't even software related.

The problem with my hd2 is the CPU is overheating thus causing it to freeze or lock up, and gets it annoying. After hours of searching on XDA, that's what seems to be the problem. I can't even talk on the phone for more than ten minutes or else locks up. So my idea was to get it back to winmo stock and see if it still locks up. If it does then i will probably try to send it back to HTC and see if they send another one maybe or fix it.
Ive had no luck luck flashing back to winmo from sdcard so i think i should try flashing back to winmo via usb on the tri color screen. Ive read on XDA that if you flash winmo via usb that it doesn't replace your SPL, and you have to run HSPL4 and flash it manually. I'm just not sure which SPL i should flash. I'm assuming 3.03 maybe?
What you could try is using an sdcard that is 2gb or less. Ive read that anything higher than 2gb will cause issues. I'm still a noobie at this rooting biz. Hope that helps.

Which model HD2 do you have?
Find and download the stock ROM from this thread, get 1.66 since it will work with HSPL2 which is the latest HSPL that will work with MAGLDR (for Android and WinPhone7).
You can flash that through SD card and it will go back to total stock, including stock SPL. I assume you know how to pull the .nbh file from the ROM you download, so just rename to LEOIMG.nbh and put it on your SD card.
Go into the tri-color screen and it should flash fine and give you factory reset. This is where it wasn't working for me, but not because I had flashed the wrong ROM or something but because I had messed up the charging leads in the back while popping the battery in and out to reboot as I was flashing.
Man I downloaded 1.66 last nite and tried to flash back to winmo from android and its toast. Not sure what went wrong. Oh well.
