Hello,
I have the nook color and a Eris (the Eris is wonderful rooted, unsable off the shelf). My root is a cyanogen froyo and it has a wonderful color overlay feature. Is it possible there is a app tht just does this for the Nook? I love my nook, but would like the ability to adjust font color (in the bn app) on my Eris, I ca do this.
If there is such an app, would I need full root to run it?
Thnks for everything.

there is article at that location that talks about the program u are referring to.
Thanks
So, from that article, it seems you not only need full root (no problem here), but you need to flash a rom. That can't be done on the NC yet right?

I was going to toss this on page 22 of working apps, but thought someone who wanted to improve their reading experience may want a separate thread. I apologize if it is not the right place. So, those of you who rooted their nookcolor, what is your best ebook reader (you do still read on it, right)?
I have 3.
Moon+Reader
BN (the one it ships with)
I still like this a lot, but it needs to support customized font color and brightness
Kindle
Some of amazon's books are still cheaper. Now we have the best of both worlds.
I love Moon+For the books it opens (does not handle all drm well)
Moon+Reader works well. The free version works wonderfully. I am having issues with paid apps right now, but as soon as that's resolved, I will posted about the paid version.
-Excellent fonts (can use any font, color and background combination actually)
-Can read many formats including epub
-Custom brightness down to 0
-Wonderful page turn effect
-It can even read some b&n purchased books, but not all.
The purchased version supports multitouch.
Have fun,
Leko

Look for "Moon+" and you should find it.
Aldiko works well too.
There's a free version and a paid version - Aldiko Premium (well worth the $)
I'm using that for my epubs instead of the B&N reader.
Here is a link if you do not have the market up and running.
HTML:
moonreader.zip
Aldiko is good too.

P.S. Sorry for the HTML box. I am posting this from dolphin on my Nook.
Aldiko Premium for me.

Ya know, I get tired of answering the same thread multiple times, so I missed this one I guess...
I exclusively use FBReader. I don't like the stock reader, it's extremely slow on my own epubs, and not enough options, such as grey on black for night reading.
FBReader has all the options I need, and it's fast, flexible. If he'd put a mechanism to sync into it, nothing could touch it IMO. It's not pretty like Aldiko but who cares, I don't stare at book covers, I read.
New update on aldiko seems to make it better with more functionality. It now can read any ePub and PDF off the sd card. This includes drm.
Not sure what extra features the premium gives? Anyone know
I like the Kindle apps ability to change the background color to sepia and adjust the font size. the stock B&N reader really needs that feature. What I'd really like to see is an app come along that would actually use a scan (or alternate between 2 or 3) real scans of book paper as a background and overlay the text over that. I think that would be cool. even a light 4 level gray fractal noise pattern would be interesting, and i think maybe easier to read.
Or maybe I'm just nuts...
- Will.
So, I just checked out Aldiko again (used it on my Eris and was not impressed; that was an old version though). It is really nice. I got it to own BN drm content. You need to use your name and cc# (the whole number) as the login and password respectively.
Then, you are in.
I think the paid and free are the same but you support the Dev with the paid.
Moon+ has better note taking features (full annotation and export)
But for nook books, Aldiko is amazing.
It's dictionary feature is nice too.

Didn't RTFM did you? The stock reader has different colors, fonts, spacing, etc. Tap the middle of the screen.

Fonts and spacing yes. Colors, IMHO, no. The buttons are there, but they are all a version of black and white. Kindle's sepia is truly sepia. It is kind of like annotationsBN says they're there, and they are. Until you want to get them off. BN's reader is good, but all the above suit my needs better at the moment.

Where did you enter the info for BN - I see no screen for this - only for Adobe DRM. The dev for Aldiko also states that it will NOT read BN DRM'd books?
Sorry the sentence was a bit run on perhaps, but I meant specifically the background-to-sepia that the Kindle has. I'd actually like more color selections, but thats just me. probably.
- Will.
In order to open BN docs,
-Download a book.
-open aldiko.
-go to the home button top left on the screen.
-click on sdcard and navigate to the book.
-open the book.
-it will ask for login and password.
-your login is the name on the card.
-your password is the full credit card # on your account.
Click go or whatever (I forgot the button), and the book will open. You should only have to do this once.
Have fun.

Khaytsus,
I see. Sorry about that. I wish it had more. If it did, I probably would not have rooted. For me, this is first and foremost a reading device. Though, I love all the other things I have going too. If they added better options today, I am not sure I would go back.
The version of aldiko I downloaded from the market did not have highlighting. Is that correct? Also, the text selection using long press and slide was very choppy and imprecise. Selecting text is much smoother on moon+ plus highlighting is a breeze.
I am an iPhone defector and am very impressed with my Vibrant, its capabilities and this awsome community. Thank you. I have been silently educating myself from these forums.
I finally rooted and went to Trigger 3.2 (incredible ROM!). I would however like to add some fonts. I have downloaded 5 font packs that I would like to install, but am nervous about screwing anything up.
I have read that these fontpacks can be installed via CWM, but I am concerned that since I am not on stock ROM I could screw up my phone. I am versed at flashing from CWM and have been playing with modems a bit.
Any advice or words of comfort would be appreciated!
Again thanks to all for this impressive collection of information.
Jason
I'm not certain what font packs you are referencing... admittedly I do not use anything other than the built-in fonts, those that come with the ROM, or the ones I get from the market... but there really should be no risk.
Trigger does allow you to hide the clock am/pm and clock if desired. I could see there being a chance of a portion of this showing if the font was a drastically different size. I only say this b/c initially a VERY small portion of the AM/PM was visible, but birgertime may have fixed that for good?
What font packs are you referencing?
The fonts listed in this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=801160

ya what kind if the are .apk download the android injecter and follow the 2 steps and done
So I just installed das bamf stripped 1.7 and I really like it, however there are a few things I would like to tweak. First, is there a way to change the color of say the loading bar for the internet? It is the stock green color right now. Normally one would just go to personalize and then change the "scene". This would also change the icon press color. I want to go with a blue color I think. Secondly, is there a way to get some of the HTC widgets back? I liked the full screen calendar which is still an app, but no longer in the widget section. Couldn't find it in the market either.
Thanks for the replies,
Josh

The loading bar can be done, unfortunately I don't know how, you could pm a themer and they could probably help you with that.
You can't use any HTC widgets unless you are using the Sense interface. BAMF stripped is "stripped" of Rosie (Sense), that is why the widgets are no longer there.
Thanks for the reply. Yea I figured I may be out of luck on the calendar widget. Hopefully there is a way to change the color.
Ok, I figured I would just ask in here instead of starting a new thread. Is there anyway to adjust the min and/or max volume settings for the ear piece? I have my volume all the way down and it sounds like people are screaming at me and I have to physically hold the phone away from my ear.
Thanks,
Josh
^^up for sound issues on ear piece. Anyone have some input?
I don't have any problems with that, but I believe there are apps on the market that can further control the volume. I'm not sure of their names though, but I have seen others mention them here in the forums.
[Q] Is there an EASY way to change font/background color on notification bar & menus?
Does anyone know of an easy way to change the font color of the notification bar &/or menus with a Droid Eris? Many of the themes I've sampled have certain aspects that are hard to read.
I've searched & searched and the only answer I could find, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831715, has a lot of steps & requires editing many files. I don't want to risk screwing something up.
Is there a quick & dirty method, or is this it? I'm still learning!
Thanks in advance!
Using the UOT Kitchen is a fairly easy way to theme certain parts of a ROM the way you want.
UOT Kitchen - How To
It doesn't have options for everything though, so there are still things that you'll either need to find a morph to flash with zipthemer/metamorph or do manually.
One other tool you might want to look at is IDIOT(If Droids Insist On Themes). I haven't used it myself but it looks interesting.
Hey, themers!
I've been having an odd problem recently with my ADW. Before I state my question, here are my device/version details:
ADW.Launcher version: 1.3.3.9
Device: Rooted Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight
Android version: 2.1 Eclair
Now, with that out of the way, here's my issue. I like changing my homescreen frequently; using new icons, new wallpaper, new widgets, etc. I've recently been enjoying vanessaem's LipseUI and Lucent Remix icons, as well as King Rollo's 7null icons. Thing is, I've been having to use Deskto VisualizeR (DVR) to get the icons to display correctly, mainly because 1) Android 2.1 doesn't support 97% of icon pack apps, so I have to buy them on one device, install them, copy the .apk out of /data/app, and decompile the .apk so I can use the icon .pngs on my Nook, and 2) When I do [Menu > Add > Custom shortcut > [tap on icon area] > Select and crop picture] in ADW, the transparency in the image I choose, whatever file extension it is, always displays as plain black (which, of course, ruins circular and King Rollo-style icons).
So, my question is: how can I force ADW to display the correct transparency in icons, and not display it as black?
Thanks ahead of time for any input!
Regards,
Nookie
P.S. One thing I've tried is taking one of david1171's Minimalist icon packs (his Minimalist and Minimalist_Black packs are the only icon pack .apks I've ever been able to actually install on my Nook), decompiling it, taking out all of the actual icon pack icons, pasting in all of, for example, the LipseUI icons, recompiling, and attempting to reinstall the .apk, but I always have gotten a parse error, most likely because I don't know how to resign the .apk after recompiling it. Can anyone help me with this option?
P.P.S. Also, please don't recommend I update my Android version - fact is, on my device, 2.1 is the highest Android version to which any devs have ever gotten it.
*cough*

Rules are one bump per day max. I would try not to make a habit out of it though IMO. Been a long time since I used 2.1 or adw. Sorry.

He's ok. It's one bump per 24hrs. and I think he's done that.
Anyway, I wish I could help. I'm unable to replicate the issue nor have I used ADW Launcher regularly in quite a long time. Have you tried using another launcher?
I know this may not be what you want to hear, or should I say see, but the fact of the matter is, many icon packs and perhaps ADW may not be fully compatible with Android 2.1. Some features like how things are displayed on the screen and general functionality have changed greatly since Android 2.1.
@rkucheran and @vanessaem, thank you both for your input. I am fully aware of all that you stated, Ms. V, but thanks for ensuring that.
I guess I'll have to do some .apk hacking.

Ahem...
Anyway...
I've never used ADW, so I can't give you any launcher-specific advice. My very first Android was on Eclair (that seems so long ago now) and it could run GO Launcher EX...which does cope with transparent icons. Maybe it's worth trying a different launcher?
Or there's this:

I have a theming tool called Tickle My Android, which is very useful for this sort of thing. Check it out, it might help!

Thank you so much for your kind and insightful input - I'm testing GO Launcher EX right now, to see if it lives up to ADW's standards, and then after that I'll give Tickle My Android a go (it looks awesome!).
Thanks again!
EDIT - After running GO for several hours, I've decided to uninstall it. It takes up too much memory, too much RAM, and isn't as customizable as ADW (which I've had for years).
Time to try TMA!
@rkucheran @vanessaem @Ticklefish
I have solved my problem! :highfive:
By installing QuickPic, using ADW's "Select picture" function (versus the "Select and crop picture" function) and selecting QuickPic as the image chooser, I can now set my app icons correctly, with transparency and everything!
Thank you all for your help, and lastly, I'd like to ask Ms. V to close this thread. :good:

Nookie
