*Strange Problem* ~I need some help~ - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a strange problem, that originally started when I flashed Axura 2.0.5. I no longer use Axura, I've now flashed Stock JK6 provided by Sombionix.
Anyway, here is my problem. I can't put any large files on my built in internal 16gb memory. For example if I'm using "root explorer" to move a file from one folder to the next, I can't. It says something to the effect that the destination doesn't have enough space. I get the same problem if I try to use windows 7 with my usb cable to put stuff onto my internal memory, windows 7 tells me "the file is too large for the destination file system." I have plenty of space though!
Any ideas?

Anyone with any suggestions?

Did you try reformatting your sd?

No, do you think that might solve the issue?

sounds like the file allocation table is misreporting free block space. A reformat should fix this. Just move whatever you want to save off the internal storage to a pc...format from the phones menu...move your stuff back...

Possibly yes. I'd try unmounting and formatting from settings>sd card and storage. Backup anything important you have on there first though.

Ok guys, I was going to backup my entire internal SD, by just copying and pasting everything onto my desktop. It doesn't even let me. I highlight all the contents of my internal sd, then try to just place it onto my desktop, and nothing happens. It is as if I never initiated a copy and paste. Tried it on a different computer, same thing, absolutely nothing happens, but I can copy the contents of the external microsd just fine.
I have an old backup of my contents I made prior to flashing axura, but the issue now is, what If I reformat my internal sd and end up with a dead phone, meaning I can no longer load anything back onto it, such as my old backup
edit:
I can copy and paste small files from my internal sd over to my desktop, but anything large, it acts like I never even initiated a copy and paste. what the hell!

Reformating seems to have worked.
Well I just reformated, even though I couldn't create a new backup. Seems like reformatting worked though so far!
Thanks!

That was a bit odd. Glad it worked though.

I assume you are trying to copy to the internal sd. The fix is the following:
1. Copy everything from your internal sd to a computer.
2. On your vibrant. Settings->sd card and phone storage->phone storage (which is internal sd) FORMAT
3. copy everything back
Done
If you are trying to copy files larger than 1-2gb there is no fix. It just doesn't work with this rom...

[Q] SD card back up to PC

So I decided to try an experiment and transferred everything off of my sd card to my pc. I rebooted everything and then moved everything back to my sd card. I can see all the files through a file manager, but can't figure out how to actually load everything.
Any ideas??

The hell? What's the purpose of any of that?

I moved everything off of my sd to my pc for a backup and when I moved it (my entire phone..I just dragged and dropped the whole folder) it didn't actually remove anything from my phone it just copied it. So I still had a copy of everything on my phone.
Is it possible that you somehow modified all the contents of your phone folder before you moved it back to your phone?..I'm just thinking out loud really, maybe it will trigger your memory, or give you and idea of what went wrong.
What version of windows are you running?
What rom are you on?

[Q] Android says SD-Card corrupted ...but it's not!

Hey there,
for the second time now Android (KG6; has happened once on KG1 before) came up with the message "SD Card corrupted... please format".
Totally out of the blue. Nothing special has happened. I didn't take out the battery or something...
So I take out the SD, put in in my card reader and Windows has no problems with it. No error message and I can use the card as regular, reading out all data that's supposed to be there.
Last time I backed up the content, formatted the SD, put the content back on and placed it back in the phone. Everything worked fine again. But considering that this process took like an hour or so (20GB of data to move) I really don't want to do this every second week.
Does someone have an idea what this could be caused by? It is an annoying thing and I really don't want to run into it when theres no pc and card reader close by.
Any constructive thoughts appreciated!
btw, I've got this SD-Booster running on Android, which changes the cache-size for SD data. Can this cause the alleged corruption?
Now when it is working just keep using it. I don't think the problem will come back again
Best of Luck.

This is already the second time it happened, so there's a raised chance that it will happen again...

No, that's not possible, because this app doesn't work with your files directly.
Regards,
Akusari
I have the same problem. Ubuntu and Windows has no problem with the SD card. I can even read the sd card when I put the phone into nandroid recovery mode, but after loading Android it says it is damaged.
Can anybody help with this?
Just format the sd card in fat at default allocation size and you will be good to go...
It happen due to partition coorupt in sd card... So formatting will erase the causes of partition.

Thanks.
Vista could not format. Managed to do it on XP. Working okay now. Luckily I always keep a backup, but still a nuisance copying over 15gb of data.
Thanks again.

Question: Renaming sdcard and sdcard2

Certain apps tend to save data on the phone's internal storage which is named "sdcard". So in order to trick those apps to save data on my external sdcard(sdcard2), would it be okay to rename the "sdcard" to "internal storage" and rename "sdcard2" to "sdcard"?
Would that cause any problems?
I like to keep my apps stored on my phone's storage and keep everything else (music, videos, pictures, browser downloads) on my actual sd card.
do it in windows explorer; i renamed mine and it works well still
Could you explain how you did this. I have tried a couple different ways and i am having no luck renaming my sd card file.
I am sure with custom roms we can swap the mount points if we want.

But that's not renaming the folder itself as the phone sees it, that's just modifying what the computer knows to call it in Explorer when you hook it up.
OP, I tried changing it myself and it wouldn't work. I don't think it's possible until root comes along and we can modify file system data and the like. Sucks, and it's stupid that HTC thought it'd be a good idea to name it SDcard, but we're stuck with it for now

Not much worse than moto bionic Havering internel storage as sdcard, and the actual SD card, sdcard-ext.

That's the exact case here. Internal storage on the Rezound is "SDCARD" and the acutal SD Card is "SDCARD2" or "ext_sd" - those two folders are mirrors of each other.

Need to FORMAT SD card

I already have apps on my SD card that I had moved over in the past but any other apps I move now become corrupted and useless. I'm hoping that formating the card will fix this issue. Can I just copy all contents from the card over to my pc then copy them back on after the format? Should everything work correctly? I have 6gigs of spotify music and other big data files. Hope someone answers Thanks!

I'm on lollipop with klte root. Man I messed up. I transfered all the contents from my sd over to my pc to format it and when I switched everything back over the folders came up as all empty. And I can't seem to recreate a folder called .android_secure. My storage info shows that about 9gigs of space are being used on the sd but the folders show nothing. 6gigs were of pure spotify offline music. This is not a good day. Tons of pics were there too.

I have done the same. In MM was concerned that my SD data would be gone. Made the transfer to the PC of everything. After seeing what MM did to my SD, I formatted the SD again and transferred from the PC to the SD and all was fine. If you want that info back and it is still on the PC, then just do the same. In my case after the format, all was as before.
I lost everything on the card. Dammit. I want to just do a complete hard reset of my phone. If I do a backup with kies will I be able to add all my apps and settings back on my phone afterwards with a recovery of the backup?

I recommend using Kies and Another Backup Solution as I've had problems with Kies backups in the past, causing me to lose saved texts, contacts, memos, settings, etc.
I personally recommend using Helium backup from ClockworkMod, a quick search through google play should get it for ya.
Happy resetting! :3
EDIT: Just realized this thread is old... you've probably already reset the phone. Sorry I didn't pay attention to the date stamp..
It's almost scary that you would have responded to this thread right now. I am going through the exact same mess again. I tried applying a fix to make the external card detectable by other apps which were not detecting it. Well after doing that none of my apps or data on the card show up or work. The files are there if I explore root folder though. How do I regain the pathway to the card? Through my USB on pc it does not show the external but it does if I use sd card reader with the sd card by itself. Last time I copied everything from the card to my pc then formatted. It all became a senseless mess when I tried returning everything to the card. Lost everything. I tried backing up with kies before but it did not give option to backup sd card. Please help is an understatement. I just checked the sd card for errors using Windows tools but no errors popped up.

The reason for this occurrence (as well as how to fix it) depend on how the fix was applied.
Please describe the nature of the fix as specifically as you can. Things like where you found it, what it does, how you installed it, as well as if this is the same SD card, will help the most.
Edit: if you could also include the file system that's on the card that would be great too.
Thank you for responding. I'm not sure what the file system on the card would be but I've attached a screenshot of what I did. The name of the app is there.

Well I found the app in question in the play store, and was unable to track down exactly what it does, so we can't get anything out of that.
To get the file system that's on the card all you have to do is put it in a Windows PC and look at the drive properties.
At this point the best thing to do would be to back up everything on the card to a computer.
