[Q] Insufficient Storage - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Trying to install Skype on bell Canada vibrant. I have the latest froyo update with Superoneclick root. Every time I try to install Skype from the market or the hacked version, I get an error message to "free up space and try again". I am able to install other market apps without issue. I have also moved several apps to sd as well. I have googled "insufficient storage", however I have not found a solution.
I am new to this. I hope this gives you enough to work on.
Thanks in advance.

Try removing your external sd and putting it back again. If all else fails you'll have to reformat your internal sd.

Format Internal SD card
I tried to pull the external sd card and it did not change anything. If I reformat the internal card will it wipe the os and apps? Should I do this through settings or by rebooting?
Thanks

Problem Solved
I reformatted the internal sd card and put the phone back to stock JK4. Then rooted with Superoneclick and loaded Skype app. Everything is working well, although the Skype app does have alot of static (wireless or 3g).
Thank you.

Had the same problem, but managed to solve it.
1. Root your device.
2. set USB debuging on the device
3. go to shell with adb
3.1 su
3.2 accept su on the device
3.3 rm -R /data/com.skype.raider
That it!
Worked perfectly for me.

running on stock 2.2
i have 2gb sd card
the internal memory cannot be read neither can the sd card
anyone know why?
i have the same problem, have you found a way around this?
Menu > Settings > SD/Phone Storage.
Can you unmount and mount? If so, do that and reboot.
If not, can your pc view them? if so, move everything to your pc for a backup... then on your phone format both and ODIN back to stock JFD..
no guarantees, but it may help.

Join the club man. My vibrant has been down for over a month with the same issue. I can't fix it. I hope someone can figure out a fix. All the fixes people have posted haven't worked for me.

Same problem with my htc diamond Xda O2 phone. It has 4 gb internal memory but there is no way i could insert an SD card .. Any solution please?
While following s15274n's instructions did you reformat the SD cards?

I did a Support Chat with T-Mo just yesterday. They had me remove the SD card (I couldn't unmount either), reboot and then do Factory Data Reset with the card still removed. (Settings/Privacy/Factory Data Reset)
So far today it's been working fine. I should add that I was able to Odin back to Stock when the problems first appeared almost a month ago. (Stock blows)

guerilla bob wont install

this game wont install unknown error-18, someone please tell me this works on our streaks.
im on djsteve 1.8.1
i have installed 1.0 on aws 2.2.2 but phone reboots while playing.im so feed up with this reboots.
1.0.1 does not work on dell...so you just know!cheers!
worked for me when installing with unmounted sd card
Unmount your sdcard, install app, mount sd card.
got it installed via PC: adb install app.apk
still have no idea how to unmount sdcard and install, if thats where there app is..because file explorers obviously cant read sd card if its unmounted..
yes I searched around on the subject...
but no worries I got it installed. very nice game, I hope we see more like this on android.
well it makes sense if your downloading from the android market like a good person
I've been playing it on a stock 2.2 without any problems. I put it on my sd card via Dropbox, and installed with astrofile manager. On level 4th with no problems so far.
i got it running fine on 345.. installed with zero issues. Fun but repetitive.
I'm on 318 and still can't get it to work. Installed 1.0, and when i launch game, it closes (not fc) automatically....any help?
I followed the trouble shooting steps , now I can't install.
Like posted before, unmount your card by going to Settings, SD card & phone storage, and choose Unmount SD card. Go back to market and install the app - it should work that way. Then repeat above steeps and mount the SD card and play the game
It's a shame we have to do these with each update as well!!
I had the same problem with a few other games from Market - even free ones so I don't think it's for copyright protection(?).
Thanks to the OP for introducing the fab game!
Has anyone got the .apk file to install an run when downloaded from the SD card? I am on 318 and have had no luck with 3 different versions.
try installing from adb,
turn on usb debugging.. go to home screen
put .apk in sdk folder, same folder as adb etc..
type this...... adb install guerillabob(or exact name of apk).apk
worked for me.. see first post

[Q] Can't Unmount Internal Storage?

I have had an intermittent (and now present) problem on 1.26, 1.57 and now 1.83 (with and without my gladiatrix p-ROM).
I cannot get the internal phone storage to unmount(!) I have tried the usual method with "USB Connection/USB Mass Storage" - the external card unmounts but the internal does not - and the internal storage cycles between "unavailable" to the amount of storage free about every 30 seconds. All the drivers are properly installed.
I've tried "Unmount the internal phone storage" from within settings/SD Card... - a message says it is unmounting but it never does.
I've done multiple reboots (this used to help but doesn't anymore).
When I change the USB connection to "Motorola Phone Portal" or "Windows Media Sync" - they are both seemingly able to access the internal phone storage and all drivers install successfully.
My real goal is both to backup the internal phone storage but also to use Documents To Go (for which synchronization seems to get harder and worse with every new version) which can only access the internal phone storage.
Something seems corrupted - does anyone have a similar problem or any suggestions?
I know this thread is super old, sorry about that, but I have this same issue and it just started today. Anyone have a solution for this?
I started this thread and went back to a clean 183 cwm and that didn't help. Given the rarity of the problem I'm beginning to think hardware more than software?
I had this problem too and what I did was to reboot my atrix and as soon as it would let me in the options to unmount I did and it let me...then I reformatted it .

I tried automount and another market app i found called SD mount (or something like that) and neither worked for me. I can easily mount the external SD but the internal SD/storage remains inaccessible except using root explorer on the phone itself. Maybe I'll finally RSD to the 2.3.4 release (I'm on a themed 1.83 right now) and this will go away, but I'm beginning to think it won't.
I bit the bullet, unlocked the bootloader, installed the pudding 1.83 then upgraded to a GB based build. Right after the SBF load the internal storage would unmount fine. Definitely some sort of odd corruption that is not hardware related. I don't know if this helps anyone else with this problem since an SBF and a clean rebuild is a PITA.

[Q] Apps to SD card on PlainJaneT v2.0

Hi:
So i just got this rom on my Eris because I started having some problems with the KaosFroyo with my text messaging. But anyway I can't figure out how to move the apps to the sd card. When I go to Applications and Manage Applications it doesn't give me the option to move it to sd card. I have root rights. I just don't really know how to do it on PlainJaneT. Does anyone know? I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Janeth
On the OP the Apps2SD is a separate download. On OP there is also a description of Apps2SD and some adb commands that may be useful.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=718092
I tried running the command a2sd install but it gives me some error saying "cannot remove '/data/.noa2sd': No such file or directory". I am kind of lost with the whole adb a2sd thing. When I try the command 'adb shell' like it says on the instructions it says Command not found. Not sure what that is all about. Is there another way to move the apps to sd?
I believe you have to reformat your SD card in order to use Apps2SD. You may want to make a copy of your SD card first and store it on your computer. When you format the SD card you will lose all data on the card.
P.S. I think you have to be on Froyo (Android version 2.2) or Gingerbread (2.3) to use Apps2SD. It will not work on Eclair (2.1) or earlier versions of Android. If you happen to be on version 2.1 there is a service called link2sd that frees up internal memory.
I already did that before I got the new ROM so I don't think that's it. Any other ideas?
Actually I don't really know how to even use that lol so I am not even sure how to use it to move the apps to my sd card.
If you are not familiar with adb, this may help you. It seems like a lot of info. Take your time and go step by step - it's not that bad.

[Q] Rezound Root using liquidsmooth rom not detecting sd-card

Hey everyone,
I just recently rooted my phone (today) using the method (liquidsmooth 2.37) on the unlockr that uses moborobo and windroid htc rezound toolkit. I am having issues now that the phone doesn't recognize the sd-card. I can mount and unmount it on the settings>storage, I believe I no longer have internal storage anymore. Under Storage I see Internal Storage 2.34GB, then Sd-card 14.82GB, and at the bottom internal storage appears again but no space size is below it. I backed up my stock rom before doing the root, but it was saved to the internal sd-card. And CWM doesn't mount the sd-card so I can even restore to the original. I have seen post about flashing the stock recovery using the all-in-one toolkit. I am not sure have exactly to do this or if that would help. Also for some reason I can no longer connect (debugging, not engaging even thought phone says it is on) to the toolkit ever since I completed the root. I have tried connecting through wifi with thoughts of using the adb commands, but I am not comfortable at all using that method.
Could anyone help fix this. If I can fix the sd mounting issue I would keep the liquidsmooth rom. Also if someone can help me understand how to go back to a stock rom I would gladly do it as well. I have seen several post about flashing RUU's but I am don't entirely understand that process as well.
Sorry if I come across as a complete idiot, I am just not that great with this stuff.
switch storage for sd card
Hey everyone I have been looking into more into my phone. Just elaborate from my first post I went from ICS to JB on the rezound. From several post I have seen is that the storage gets a little weird.
On my phone I can mount the sd card under settings>storage, but the phone doesn't recognize it as the sdcard, but rather as the external_sd (in root explorer). When I try to open sdcard in root explorer it tells me not mounted or can't mount. I believe my phone and all its apps for downloading or storage want to use the sdcard link, but my sd card is appearring as external_sd. How can I tell my phone to recognize my sd card as sdcard (in root explorer) or tell my phone to store in external_sd (where my sd card is appearing right now)?
Thanks for any help.
Hey everyone,
I fixed my issue. After reading several post the issue of losing internal storage is common when changing android versions. I read to flash firmware patch. I did this and I also Read that USB debugging is an issue when super user isn't correct. I downloaded supersu from play, even though liquidsmooth has it built in. I connected to my PC and was connecting. Then after my phone detected internal SD card and said needed to be formatted. I formatted it within the phone boom.! Done!

This is very odd... I have to question whether the initial flash worked properly if su wasn't working, LiquidSmooth is very stable and bug-free ROM. What HBoot, recovery, and radio versions do you have? What "patch" did you flash?

Thank you so much I too flashed the 2.37 Liquid Smooth rom and had the above issue, with nothing being mounted under sdcard, at least in root explorer. When attempting to install some of my larger apps from the play store they would tell me that "APPNAMEHERE" requires external storage for some functionality. Please retry after ensuring that external storage space is available. Again when attempting to enter the sdcard folder under root explorer it would notify me that "the sd card is not currently mounted". Under the mnt folder there was no sdcard just external_sd. While under STORAGE there was sdcard0 and sdcard1. With sdcard0 being completely empty, and sdcard1 just having the files I had put on the removable sd card.
I didn't do anything about firmware, but I did follow your suggestion about reinstalling supersu from the play store then connecting to the computer. Immediately after doing so the phone recognized the sdcard and offered to format it for me, and I can now sdcard is mounted properly again and the folder can be accessed under root explorer. One of the other symptoms of the above is that if I went to phone setting then storage I could see all of my storage both internal and on the external sd card but there was nothing below the external sd card space, where now it has total space for both types below the sd card storage. Again thanks so much I had been banging my head against this wall for days as this is the first time I flashed a rom to my rezound or any android for that matter.
I'm glad my experienced helped someone else, cause like you I had no idea what to do

Mine is a little bit complicated..I'm running the latest liquid smooth rom, my internal storage is detected by file managers(root explorer, xplore file manager). But in the settings/apps/ the internal storage is not present. And liquid smooth seems to be the only rom with this bug.
