[Q] Launchers through SSH? - Nook Color Themes and Apps

I've tried very hard to get adb to work (on both windows 7 and ubuntu), but just can't seem to get it to work. I have, however, gotten ssh to work through ubuntu to be able to install some apps.
My question is, is there any way to install a launcher through ssh or perhaps the nook Iteself? I've tried everything I can think of, but I'm still stuck with the default nook launcher.
Thanks in advance for your Help!

Have u setup so that u can install non-market apps? If yes, just google for adw.apk and you'll find plenty links to install.

what are you specifically saying to uninstall?
I haven't used the webtop yet so forgive my ignorance, just gonna throw some ideas at ya.
Do you have to use firefox or do you just prefer it? wouldnt you be able to download other browsers from the market place and just launch those once connected to webtop?
check under the settings for the firefox browser, see if you can play with any of them, what comes to mind is the client option, which allows u to chose from android or desktop.

[Q] rooted my nook and have a couple of issues

Ok so I succcesfully rooted my NT using indirect's method but some issues have popped up
1) not all of the google apps are showing up. Not in the app drawer or desktop.
2) titanium backup will not run. I can use root explorer and change to the r/w method though.
3) its no longer seeing my sdcard
4) I'm using ADW launcher and all the menus are white font with a white background(I know this hasn't been resolved yet)
Anybody know why some of this stuff is happening?
Sorry, I would post this in the development forum but don't have enough posts yet.
Thanks!
1) not all of the google apps are showing up. Not in the app drawer or desktop.
Not all GApps are installed via Indirect's tools. Just the basic "foundation", so you can get other tools in the Market, and/or side-load.
2) titanium backup will not run. I can use root explorer and change to the r/w method though.
Try a different APK, and make sure you're rooted.
3) its no longer seeing my sdcard
Reboot. Make sure it ain't corrupted. Sometimes clicking it back out, and back in will help it register with the hardware.
4) I'm using ADW launcher and all the menus are white font with a white background(I know this hasn't been resolved ye
You can press and HOLD, and it'll change color to one you can read. If you slide off the key, it won't "press".
Good luck.
I also rooted my nook and am having some major issues
I followed all of the steps. I was only able to access the App Market by running the debugging app again, however my nook updated and now its telling me I can't download the debugging app for safety reasons. I know I still have the apps because my kill task app is in the bottom corner, but I can't access them.
Also, I tried to unroot and start over and my nook won't allow me to download the unroot app. HELP pls So if I can't start over and can't uninstall, what can I do? I even tried to restore it to factory settings and it only changed my keyboard back to the nook keyboard.
I figured I could download what I wanted from marketplace but I did want to make sure something didn't go wrong there. As for titanium, I've unistalled and redownloaded it several times without any luck. I'm not having any problems accessing SU so I'm assuming I'm rooted, correct?
Btw, sort of off topic but the XDA app force closes on me whenever I click on a topic lol

Facebook application for NT

Hi Guys,
I am trying to find Facebook and Twitter Application for NT.
Even though i have widget for both, i am looking for Application.
Can somebody help me with Apk..
Cheers!!!!
Im looking for this as well so I will be watching for an answer.
Thanks
Are you guys looking for THE Facebook app, because AFAIK, it does not work on the NT. I don't know about the official Twitter app. I use Tweetdeck (sideloaded from my phone).
I should have said the "roooted" NT
Try this for Facebook
http://db.tt./5z5nuhLG
you have to use an older version for it to work

No you don't, I have the latest versions of both and they're running flawlessly.
I'll post the apks in a sec.

I've attached the apks.
Flawless Victory! Facebook app works and Widget too! TY for this.
FYI: The newest versions of both apps work on the NT. The market just won't allow you to download them [another reason I'm returning this thing.] You need to sideload the apks.
even if you went with the KF, your stuck with 8GB without expansion....worse screen, more fragile, etc

Actually, I sideloaded those apks before I rooted, and they wouldn't work once I'd rooted. I went into the Market and replaced them with the Market versions and they work just fine.
@Torrential91
Did you lift the Twitter .apk from a rooted device and if so...what directory was it hiding in?
I spent 45 minutes this morning looking in my old Hero and couldn't find it. I came here to to get the treasure map and you have just delivered the treasure.
Thanks!
any idea where the Google+ .apk might be?

Thanks Torrential91 - downloaded and installed both. Facebook works great, twitter wouldn't install. Do you know if I need to edit the file name to remove the % etc?
Check out this thread guys...

@deralaand
I actually downloaded it from the internet, so no. Haha.
And for the twitter app, you shouldn't have to...but go ahead and try and let me know what happens.

EDIT: For those of you who are rooted, I just made a thread in this forum on how to install apps that aren't showing up in the marketplace. Maybe that will help as well.
I'm still getting FC's from the com.facebook.katana-2.apk.
Anyone else experiencing this/fixed it?

Are you trying to use it on a rooted NT? Which root did you use?
This time around I'm using the Snowball root.
Yeah, snowball-mod has some issues with Facebook and the XDA app... I'm looking into it now.
Hi,
I downloaded the apk via your link above from the browser on my rooted NT (basic root using Indirect's latest instructions), and the download completed. But when I select it (to install it) my Nook says "Cannot open file."
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Do not use the built-in file explorer. It was designed to prevent people from sideloading applications. Check out "ES File Explorer".

CM9 new install, trebuchet missing

I just did a fresh install of CM9 on my Nook Color. It looked good so I went to download all the software I had in my Play account. Next time I went to use my tablet the Launcher was missing. Is there a way to get it back?
Clue

I did a reboot in the recovery mode. I get a gapps installer not found. I have installed the gapps program. Should I try a different one or start over from scratch again? I would like to avoid this as I have already installed most of my apps already.

Kindle HDX Rom Help

Hi guys. New to the fourm. I recently rooted my Kindle Fire HDX 7.9 (Thor I believe?). It's on 4.5.3 and I've been reading about ROMS? I'm guessing they're to make the tablet act like another OS? If so how do I download and install them?
Thanks in advance
So, a ROM is a custom build of the os. Some, like MIUI are to make the android feel more like an iPad, but most give the user more control and actually take the manufacturer's customizations away giving you more of a pure android experience.
Right now, you cannot run a rom on your os, but root it, and block ota because ggow is working on a rom for the newer os.

Thank you! I've already got it blocked I believe, I followed a tutorial which stopped them. Just another thing, I see people posting pics of their setup with launchers etc, but whenever I use a Launcher, my wallpaper just stays black. Is that due to it being "kindle" still?
You are welcome. As for the launcher, yes and no, Amazon did not include some of the files needed to set wallpapers with their build of the os. If you are rooted, the way to get wallpapers is to install the xposed framework, and find a module called hdxposed. Be careful with the exposed framework as some of the modules can permanently mess up your system. But, hdxposed is safe and will enable wallpapers. The other annoyance with an alternate launcher is the popup asking which launcher to use. To get around that, dissable all or a portion of amazon's launcher called otter.

Is there a tut or anything to install it or is it like an apk etc?
Yes, and yes. What the framework is is a way for newer versions of android to install or modify pieces of a rom without rewriting the whole rom. Google it and you will find the xda thread with the installer apk. Then, search for hdxposed which has no settings, you just check the box.
When you find the apk for the xposed framework installer, you need to install it (it is a normal apk), then open it and install the framework. You must select the normal way as you do not have a typical recovery. That is the only risk if you do not install any other modules besides hdxposed.

Thank you very much!! And when I install all of that, I can then add wallpapers via my launcher or do I have to do it via another method?
I guess it depends on the launcher. In theory, yes, but for some people the launcher wallpaper mechanism is still buggy. I use Nova, and I use an app (image2wallpaper) because if I do not, Nova overzooms my pics.
