Slight oddity with my Vibrant.
Occasionally when I charge the phone, it will show that it is completely charged--battery gauge will show full, About Phone will show 100% charge, all of that good stuff. When I unplug the phone, my battery gauge will instantly drop to 97%.
Additionally, for the entire duration of this particular charge, my battery life will be total crap. And by total crap I mean draining 1% in five minutes with the screen off, going from 97% to 78% in two hours with the only use being a quick check of bus schedules.
However, if I notice this 100-to-97 instant drop and plug the phone back in until it charges to 100% again, it will not display any of this odd behavior and battery life is awesome as usual, with standby power consumption at 1-2% an hour.
So... what gives?

Dont worry about when you unplug it, its just a inaccurate reading.
It happened to me this morning with Axura, and my battery showed 97%, but the 3% was given back without me knowing, does your phone stay at the 97 for a longer time? it should, and also some people say do a battery calibration.

I conditioned this battery after flashing the ROM last month. You have the directions mixed up... should charge to full, boot in clockworkmod, delete battery stats, reboot, drain to 0, charge back to full.
And no, it doesn't stay on 97 for longer than it should; as I stated in the OP, if it does the 100-97 drop, the battery life is significantly worse than when it acts normally.
I get the same thing. Actually at the moment I am trying to unplug... see the 97% and plug it back in, it will then say fully charged, I unplug it and it says 98%. I am going to repeat this until it actually says fully charged when I unplug it and then reboot to recovery and wipe the stats.
What I am confused about when it comes to reconditioning and wiping is even when the phone says "fully charged" when I reboot to recovery and wipe, once the phone has rebooted it says it's charging again. Should I leave it in until it says fully charged or unplug it after it boots?
It seems to do the 100-97 thing primarily when charging via USB. Almost every time I've seen this happen was when it was charging off my laptop.
I've noticed also that when it does this, the battery icon (I use Segmented Battery Mod) shows "100" solid without a flashing plug icon. If I unplug it, it will drop to 97. If I plug it back in and it actually charges completely, it will flash between the plug icon and "FULL."

Mine USED to do thar with Nero beta 3 now on Axura IRS dine I've been using it for 20 minutes and still at 100%

Updated to Nero v3 and now I have the problem constantly. It will always claim 100% charge when it isn't actually fully charged.

If you've flashed the ROM, do the "recondition" -- or if you have a stand-alone (external) charger, just charge it full, then put in the new battery and wipe your stats. (The recondition thing -- charging, draining, then charging -- is just a theory that on the second full charge you'll get "more" charge in there after a full drain -- I doubt this is true, especially if your battery stats are hosed to begin with.)
As for the dip after you unplug it -- this is just the battery manager varying the maximum charge level to optimize battery life. Laptops do this all the time -- even when they're plugged in, they'll let the machine run on battery power here and there. For a new battery it might only let it dip to 97%. On one of my laptops it has decided dipping way down to 86% is optimal. Just depends on the battery health, usage patterns, etc.
Battery life was pretty bad when I first flashed Nero, but now that I've wiped battery stats, the battery life seems much better. It still does the 100-97/98 thing, so I'm guessing it means my battery is still pretty good despite all the heavy use!
The JL5 modem seems to have worse battery life than JK6 (only very slightly though) but it doesn't get stuck on EDGE like JK6 did... net gain in my opinion.

No matter how long my g tablet is plugged in,
it does not charged until the battery meter says 100%.
It always get charged upto 96%.
Is there anyway to fix this problem?
Is it something that can be fixed by clearing batterystat.bin?
If that so, can I do that using adb? Thank you.

This is pretty common with the G-Tablets.
You can run it down all the way and then go into CWM and tell it to reset the battery stats.
But often as not that doesn't change much.
My personal advice (I have one that often does the same) is just ignore it. If it's 96%
you've got no problem and at less than 10% you better be thinking "charge."

Mine only charges up to 96% as well. Gonna try to reset it in CWM after it drains. Hopefully it works, cuz while having it only go to 96% isn't a huge deal its something I would like t be able to fix.

It is normal. Gtab treats 8.3V as 96%. In theory, 2cell li-ion battery 100% of charge is 8.4V. But, such battery does not like to be overcharged (it will shortened battery life).
mine did charge to 100 percent before installing vegan 5.1 supplement? Now it charges to 98 no matter how long i leave it plugged in? There has to be some way to alter the battyer stats to show 100 percent if it is??

I had this tablet only for a week or so. I have installed Vegan 5.1.1. I noticed the battery only charged to 95% or 96%. I have drain the battery all the way, and then "Reset Battery Status" in CWM. But, it did not work the 1st time. Then, I drained it again. After the tablet shuts off automatically, I would push the power button to turn it on a few times to drain it more. Then, I reset the battery status in CWM, AND, I "Fixed File Permissions" right after the battery status reset. Then, reboot the device, and it reached 100%
Note: I drained the battery at work, tried to turned it back on about 3 times after it shuts itself off. After I got home, a few hours later, I turned it back on one more time, and the battery showed 2% and stayed on for quite a while. Not sure why that is. Hope this helps.

Same thing continually happens to me. I've done all the "fixes" and suggestions..and it still does it. Sometimes it goes up to 100%..sometimes 95%. All's I ever do is reboot with the phone still plugged in and "usually" (not always), it boots up showing 100%. IMO there is something with GB that is causing it..cuz i've noticed it on every rom i've tried (Alien, Cherry, CM7 etc)..

Sometimes when I disconnect the charger, the phone still acts as if the charger is plugged in. Only solution is to reboot.
I will try to reboot with the charger connected to ser if that fixed my battery metter. Thanks for sharing.

Another thing i've done (as per xploited's thread), is when phone is fully charged reboot the phone (while still being plugged in) and pop out the battery right away. The phone will reboot with a ? (looking for the battery)..then pop the battery back in and it will usually say 5%. Leave it charging until it reaches 10% (i've never gotten it to go higher)..at which point unplug and reboot your phone.
Just read this interesting tidbit from another thread:

So basically..after fully charging your phone..reboot with it unplugged and it should eliminate some of the drain people are experiencing. Until a new version of GB comes out..I think we'll all have to deal with these weird battery issues.

it was all good i used to get a very impressive battery life. but after i put alien 4 ( before that i used first ken's release of GB ) the battery life is worse and it doesn't charge till 100% and the drain from from 98 to 90 is very quick compared to other drains in range of 10%
With the 1% mod your phone thinks that the battery is at 100% while at 95%... like 94% would be 90% so it would take a while to get to the full 100 because it doesn't want to overcharge the battery and damage it. Also don't worry about the 100% 4200mv is the normal capacity of the battery's cells aslong as it that or over its still fully charged

As mentioned above, you're fine if you're at 4200mv. Ymmv because of battery. And the juice is calculated by software. No chip on the battery. If your mv are significantly under 4200 mv then you need to calibrate. If it's close or over, quit worrying and rebooting and just use it. Sometimes my phone flies through 90's but after that it settles down and everything is normal. If you keep trying reset battery stats your battery is not going to calibrate because you're not discharging enough for the software to figure out more accuracy with numbers it gives you.

Yep, what the other posters wrote is right. To summarize:
1. If you are at 4200mv, stop worrying what % it shows, because you are at full charge.
2. Android software tries to keep the time when battery is @100% to a minimum, because fully charging and completely discharging on regular basis hurts the battery.
3. The battery meter is lying to you, and it's not such a bad thing, read the article -

So I charge my Galaxy S2 to full (or at least, it says it's full), unplug it, and it says it's only charged to 60%, or 43%, or something random. I plug it back in, and off it goes, starts charging again, this time usually up to the "proper" 100%.
On top of this, the battery drain is very fast (10-15% overnight)
So, believing it's the battery, I get a replacement. Same thing.
I then learn that the reason might be because I flashed Lite'ning ROM while not on full battery, and that it just needs a battery calibration.
Ok, so I do a battery calibration - I charge it to full, drain it to 0%, then charge again. Take it off the charger, plug it back in to make sure it's full and...what do you know, the battery meter shows it at about 20% It continues to charge for about 4-6 hours after this.
Help? Is my phone faulty, or am I just not doing the calibration correct? I don't think it was like this before I installed Lite'ning ROM. So I'm praying it's not the phone itself?
The only other thing I can think that it might be, is the fact that it's a UK Galaxy S2, but I'm using it in Japan with a Japanese charger. Though I don't think that's an issue.
Any help would be very much appreciated.... not only does my battery not charge to full in one go, but it has **** life afterwards

Yeah, that's what I meant by "tried the battery calibration".
Charged to full, wiped battery stats from recovery, then rebooted.
Try using app battery monitor widget, and check battery is actually charging it to around 4200mV, and discharges to around 3500mV at approx 1%.
100% is not full, it will continue charging for quite a bit after to around 4200.
At least you will know that the high and low scale is correct, and can monitor in between.

So I charged it overnight via AC adapter (with the phone turned on), woke up, and the phone was at 4%!

Try charging via usb, much slower than ac though, then check again.
Don't drain battery to 0%, certain reports indicate not good for the battery, others say no worries. Try 1% so the phone doesn't turn off.
Although the huge jumps in battery level indicate a battery issue; If still no good, try a different ROM, and recalibrate. Also try in flight mode overnight and check results.

Thanks for the suggestions man, I appreciate it. My main concern is whether or not it is a problem with the phone itself - the place I bought it from has a ****ty returns policy and won't exchange it or anything. So I'm hoping like hell it is something I can fix myself (new battery, new charger, different rom, etc etc etc).
As I mentioned, I'm currently on the latest Lite'ning ROM with Ninphetamine kernal I believe. Just did a factory reset/data wipe via recovery mode, thinking it would get rid of lite'ning rom and the ninphetamine kernal, but upon rebooting the Lite'ning rom theme (blue lightning on the icons, etc) is still there.
Anyway, I have it charging on USB now, and I have ANOTHER battery coming tomorrow, along with a stand-alone wall charging unit (that charges just a battery on it's own, not connected to the phone). Maybe I should charge the new battery via that for 16 hours, then stick it in the phone, wipe the battery stats via recovery, and flash a new ROM (say, the new villainrom)?
Yeah, forgot about that also, I have two SGS2 (one in for repair), and each time new have let is charge overnight without turning on before first boot. Then discharge to approx 1% (do not let it die), then charge fully to 100% and approx 4200mV. Quickly clear battery stats with Battery Monitor Widget (menu / stats / SU permission, no need for recovery as you'll waste battery rebooting and get inaccurate reading) and immediately disconnect charging. A new batt stats file will be generated.
At least with this method you'll know your at a "true" 100%.
Also, it may take a number of charge cycles for full battery potential, but don't let it die.
I use Cognition straight "out of the box" with no issues.

i think i have done some wrong steps in the battery calibration
when my battery is fully charged in a battery changer(charger for battery only)
when i put the battery into the phone, it's shows that there is about 30% of battery
when i further use the battery, the battery level rise (without charging!) to 100 then drop to 0 and turn off
the time that the phone can use from 100% to 0% is quite short
when every time after charging, the battery level is 100%
it won't charge to the "real" full battery level, ie ~30% (SORRY FOR MY POOR ENGLISH)
how should i calibrate?
i used the battery calibration app, but no use.

If your recovery is ClockWorkMod, then there is an option to "Clear Battery Stats". Just try to see whether it helps.

It's a few days late, but battery calibration is unnecessary on modern batteries (Lithium). All the apps do is delete a small file that records power usage, they do not affect battery life in any way. This file is cleared automatically (by the system) when the phone is fully charged.
Further, full charge/discharge cycles will actually have a net harmful effect on your battery life. A lithium ion battery has a limited number of charge/discharge cycles it can sustain before becoming more effective at being a paperweight than powering anything. The full cycles you are doing simply eat into the battery's overall life expectancy.
For instance, it is better to charge from 50% to 100% multiple times than it is to go from 0 to 100 once.
Personally, I would just replace the battery.
I would suggest u to calibrate the battery in the clockworkmod recovery too
if this wont has any effect take into consideration that your battery might be damaged
i faced this problem one year ago with a galaxy spica the battery was shown as full and after a restart it was almost empty and calibrating the battery did not had any effect
so have a try and report afterwards
If, after rooting or more likely that case after flashing a new rom, you often have battery reporting errors (as mentioned above), and re-calibrating the battery along with some steps I will outline for you below will ensure that your battery is getting a full charge, and the battery reporting accuracy is right on. I run my device in performance mode all the time, and with a CPU overclock of 1.25GHz and various tweaks, I have about a day an a half to a day and a quarter of full runtime from my battery. This is with moderate to heavy usage (calls, emailing, text, gaming, web browsing, etc.) so you should have no problems getting acceptable battery performance after following these steps:
1. Take the case off your device (one of the latter steps involves taking the battery out from the phone while it's plugged in. Make sure your case won't stand in the way.)
2. Install Battery Calibration app from the market
3. Plug in your device to charge while it's on, wait till it gets to a 100%
4. When the charge is 100%, open the BatteryCalibration app and lookup what the charge is in MV while at 100%. Write it down.
My Atrix 2 was showing ~3400MV while at 100%, which is definitely not the maximum capacity.
5. Discharge your device completely until it shuts off.
A good way of doing this quickly is by turning on wifi, and a video player.
6. Without turning on the phone plug it into a wall charger and let it get to 100%
7. When it's at 100%, without unplugging it from the wall charger, take off the battery cover, and take the battery out.
Your phone will "reboot" and show a Missing Battery icon.
8. Without unplugging the phone from the wall charger or turning it on, put the battery back in and wait until the phone recognizes the battery.
9. Your battery should now be recognized by the phone, and showing a charge % significantly lower than 100%.
Mine showed only 5%.
10. Let it sit there charging for 2-3 hours (or more).
My phone wouldn't charge past 10%, but yours might. The numbers don't matter much as the phone is definitely getting additional charge that could have been lost while flashing ROMs, etc.
11. After 2-3 hours (or more), turn the phone on while holding the volume down button and get into CWM.
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
12. Wipe battery stats in CWM, reboot.

13. When the phone turns on, go into Battery Calibration app again and look up your MV numbers -if you were like me, they should be significantly higher than before. After this whole process I had 4351MV at 100%, comparing to 3400MV before calibration.

14. Before going to sleep - Install Watchdog Task Manager Lite from the market. Go into it's preferences, set CPU threshhold to 20%, check "Include phone processes", check "Monitor phone processes", check "Display all phone processes", set system CPU threshhold to 20% as well.
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
15. Make sure your wifi and data connections are off. Now finally unplug the phone from the charger.
Go to bed, let your phone sleep too.
16. Success! Next morning check where your battery % is at and if you followed the instructions correctly / got lucky like me, your battery life should be 90% or more.
I went to bed with 98% and woke up to 94%. So, I consider this mission a success.

This is not happening for the first time...
Ever since I rooted my device and flashed Android Revolutionary Rom on it, I noticed some weird behavior with my device/battery.
Last night I drained my battery to 6% and I turned it off. This morning I charged my phone with the phone stayed off and when the battery indicator screen lighted up it was showing that 50% juice remains. Since this is not happening for the first time, this time I would like to test on it to see whether there's really this much juice remains. So I turned my phone on and as expected, the battery indicator shows 50++% left. So I play around with it and I noticed the screen flashing terribly after some time. Not long after that the phone hang there and I had to do a hard reset by pulling out the battery. Before that, I can see that the battery is drained to around 20%. I was unable to power it on after pulling out the battery and when I connected my device to the charger, nothing happens (no display, no LED). So I left it there charging and after some time, finally the LED is lighting up (So, I assume that I drained the battery COMPLETELY just now). I can switch on the device afterwards and it shows 6% battery remains. I wonder why is this happening as this only happens when I charge my device with it turning off. Something wrong with the battery? Device? Or I have to do battery calibration?

Let it charge to 100% first before using. Then check how is the battery usage.
There might be an issue with the battery also. If it is swollen then it's time to get a new one.
Try using another battery and see. If it works fine on other battery then your battery needs to change,
The problem could also be in the ROM. Something could have gone wrong during installation even though it may look fine. If this is the case then reflash the ROM with a full wipe. If the problem still remains, return to stock rom and see.
I had the exact same problems, the screen flashes and stutters, network signal is lost and the phone turns off, it is due to uncalibrated battery.
There's a simple fix, download battery calibration from play stor (green android icon with percentage), charge your phone to 100% without using it, then click battery calibr. inside that app, then doscharge it till 0% (do your normal usage as ussual) and then charge it back to 100%
For healthy battery life don't let it drain lower than 10% it's the li-ion physics and always charge it fully, don't charge from 0 to 30-50-60% because the ions in the battery will not have a good flow.
Everything has it's lifespan but if it's configured and used properly it can have a long lifespan
Also to mention, if my recommendation doesn't work, your battery could be swolen due to inproper charging / heavy oc-ing or your charger is messed up.
Also to say, that flickering occured to me when i flashed a new rom and when i do lot of reboots, then the batterystats freak out, the voltages also and also your phone.
Charhe and use it properly, try to stay with a rom at least a couple of days to see how it'll go.

The battery usage is normal, and its not swollen. I guess I will try to calibrate the battery or reflash the ROM again.
