ATT HSDPA - Streak 5 Android Development

I just posted this on MoDaCo, but thought I would try here as well:
Im on Dell Streak locked to AT&T runnin 305 "official" 2.2.
I always have the "H" icon ( which I changed icon back to say 3G),
my speedtest.net results max out around 2.5-3mbps
I get around 1mbps in my office at work but Im large building an not good reception.
I would like to know if anyone know any tweaks to increase the speeds; such as editing build.prop, which I saw somewhere on xda for another t-mobile device;
or even somewhere in the engineering codes, etc. or by dialing the #data# codes
I think it was like ro.build.hsxpa=_ ; because I think the device can be set to a certain level of HSPA such as 1.8,3.6,and 7.2
I think there is good reception here in Hartford,CT, I think I got 4mbs down on my old iphone 4.
I saw the thread yesterday on xda about throttling, it looks a bit involved though, and I dont think Im being throittled here, I think it may actually be set in the build, I dont know... Senior members... @fards, @DJ_Steve.....any ideas ?

Boost 3G and 2G Connection build.prop Mod

I found this in the X10 threads..
It should work on the mini/pro but as I'm on a year vacation in Germany (and on a very low data plan) it's not much use to me.. I thought I should share it in case anyone on here is interested..

I don´t have the infinity plan, as any pre-paid plan is a waste of money, no matter what country you live in. Instead I have Liberty +50 (post-paid) and pay 29.90 for "unlimited" data plan (well, we all know they lower the speed after 4 GB);
This said, it won´t make any difference on data transfer rates. What makes difference is where you live, and how good is the 3,5G coverage.

well actually i have unlimited traffic with my prepaid plan (0,50 R$ all day long) and it's quite ok for me: 80% of my calls are made via sip so a postpaid would be a waste of money.
Anyway, of course that speed depends from coverage, that's why u should test in same place with the original and the modded build.prop to see if there is any difference; some guys in the original post had impressive improvements.....

Ok, here are the details:
Test location: São Paulo, Brazil
Operator: TIM (3G - H)
Software used: speedtest.net for Android (available on the market)
Location (for those who know): Tatuapé
Server used for testing: Jundiaí
Upload/download with mod: 262kbps/1150 kbps
Upload/download without mod: 256 kbps/980 kbps
Verdict: no influence at all. At least for mini pro
Didn't work here; tested 3 times without mod and 3 times with mod.....nothing at all.
Anybody can actually confirm that this is working with mini?

Well, seems we were the first to test it, so so far we can confirm it doesn´t work. I tried to play with numbers, and nothing. This seems to be an old shtick, btw. It has been discussed way back in 2009 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=595291 or here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=595108
But... my phone is unbranded. I wonder if someone with branded phone has any of the ro.ril.XXX entries in their build.prop and if yes what are they? Can you guys check, please?
PS Rikirix. out of curiosity, were you TIM speeds comparable to mine?

BTW, my mini is unbranded and didn't get these ro.ril entries so i just added the code at the end of the build.prop file......but i was almost sure that wouldn't work....
Update I took out all lines leaving only these two:
ro.ril.hsxpa=2
ro.ril.gprsclass=10
The upload speed went from 260 to 360
The download speed from 980 to 1150
Changing it to 12 took it back to 260/980
And of course it makes sense because X10 mini pro officially is a class 10 terminal, so any value above 10 was making no sense.

try inserting only these 2 lines
ro.ril.hsxpa=2
ro.ril.gprsclass=10
and reboot TWICE - I mean turning power on and off and not by using a soft reboot program. Also when you edit build.prop don´t forget that you leave permissions the way there were.
Let me know how it goes.
No effect here in Indonesia.. Guess it's XL network just plain 'slow' @ 384kbps..

Try changing ro.ril.hsxpa=2 to ro.ril.hsxpa=1 (as it is network dependant parameter). Also don´t forget to reboot twice.

Thanks for the input vlissine, but i found no differences after 2 times the reboot and hsxpa changed.. :-/ Guess it's already on the XL's speed quota.. But i find the latency dropped though.. so nice having this mod in mine.
EDIT: haha silly me, it is deliberately limited by XL to 384kbps.. Damn.. But again, if the bandwidth is not limited, then i guess the whole network in Indonesia will be a drag to use.. :-/

New-T-Mobile Radio/Modem Thread

To All, This is a new thread dedicated to trying to resolve the known problems with the current Hacked Radio/modems we all have experienced.
Please do not post already known issues over and over I will delete them. The Effort is to keep this thread clean and up to date with newly discovered fixes an/or new bugs.
Both Allgamer and I have a Note so any developer that needs something tested pm us and we will assist you as best we can
The issues we all seem to have experienced Are:
1. Dropped calls, this is a big issue... need to phone to never fail us..... especially for those who are business dependent.
2. Low up load speeds
3. Inconsistent data speed issues
4. Data dropping
5. Battery Drain/heat issues
If there are other specific issues that arise please post and I will itemize in the OP. Let's see if we can draft the assistance of a developer (s) who are excellent with radio/modem hacking. We are close to a final fix let's try to get across the finish line to 100% success.

Wasn't there a few people who started a new bounty for the 100% properly working radio fix? Could the OP please add them to the first post and maybe keep a running total with names like the original bounty?
Also, are there any radio/modem developers who could give me a few tips on how to start working on this? I opened the radio files all gung-ho like but as they are binary I have no idea what's what in there

Second, I used the updated build.prop that was posted from the guy who figured this all out and then flashed my phone with the Telus radio even though I'm on T-Mobile. I am pleased to say this combo works PERFECT for ME.
I am getting download speeds of around 10Mbps and upload speeds are usually around 2 to 3Mbps. This is plenty fast enough. Also the data switching is instant between edge and 4g if I go out of a 4g area. My signal is also just as strong as other T-Mobile branded phones by looking at the dB level of the signal.
If you are having issues I would encourage you to try this combo. I am perfectly happy with my Notes performance.

I'm in Maryland. Near Rockville and Gaithersburg area
@ timgt- any heat build up in the phone or burning battery life quickly??
What's your average battery life/day with lite, mod, heavy use?

i agree it's working pretty good for me as well
i'm still undecided which radio is better KID or Telus
they both seems o be doing great
in my end the limitations is mainly due the service provider, even on my T989 i can't get good upload speed, and download speed is the same on both my T989 and i717
so from my point of view, it's as good as it'll get
the only bug i frequently encounter is the data getting hung
which thanks fully the NoBar took care of that issue for me, if there is no signal for more than X amount of minutes it'll restart the radio for me to catch a new signal

Silly question, I gues not all AT&T Notes are created equal? I tried flashing the KID modem and my Note was very unhappy. It started up but it was stuck in an unholy lag. I tried everything but it was not until I flashed one of the other 2 modems that it went back to normal. I am trying the Telus/build.prop combo and the download is a LITTLE better at just under 4Mps with still the lousy upload speed. I live in northern Delaware.

Shouldn't have any lag in the operation of the phone. It is likely that the KID modem you are using was the original T-Mobile zip and not the modded one.

Hmm maybe I got the wrong one. Where do I find the "modded" KID?
EDIT: Nevermind I found it, you were correct sir I had the wrong one. I am downloading the one now that ends with "ATTNOTE" in the file name and give it another try.

I don't notice any kind of heat issues with this device on any combo I've tried, however I don't play games for hours or anything.
As for battery life, it seems just a tad worse on battery with the build.prop modification and Telus radio but even with worse battery it is still the best life of any android device I've owned. With the data speeds I'm getting the battery life is an ok trade off.

Here is the one i used. Rename it from build.doc to build.prop first. Make sure you backup your original file too.

Yup. I used Es file explorer cause it's free but root explorer should work the same.

[Q] [4.0.3]How has ShoStock managed to get the modem so fast?!

So here is my predicament, I have been awaiting ICS' arrival for my I777 for around 6 months (whenever i first heard about the face unlock, sadly enough) as many of you know, it has recently been released thanks the awesome dev entropy and his amazing hard work! the day it was released (AOKP) i actually flashed it in the middle of class because i just could not wait till i got home. i instantly fell in love with the UI over Touchwiz, the endless amounts of customization inside it, and just overall the smoothness. however, the one thing i really noticed was that data speeds.. well to be quite frank, they sucked (300 kb/s). And so my hopeful journey continued to find that ROM that had a decent modem in it, thinking i could just rip ShoStock's apart and incorporate it. that doesn't seem to be the case however... so my question to you, oh all-mighty XDAers is.. how does Sho get such amazing data speeds over the at&t network (i maxed out at 3 mb/s on his according to speedtest.net) i am currently back on AOKP mainly because i could not bear the touchwiz UI any longer... i have done all of the following:
-fiddled with the APN's (increased speeds by 100 kb/s, still not all that good however)
-flashed the leaked uclc2 modem.
i live in KY (USA) if that helps any?

It might just be your location. Do you know others on the same network where you are who are getting better data speeds?
If you want to try different modems on SHOstock2, go to the modems thread in the dev. section and download the modems and try them. They are easily flashable via CWM. Just read the thread to understand which modem you need. FWIW I get about twice the speed where I am when I go from KK6 to KH7.

I actually took it into the AT&T retail in my hometown (I am good friends with all the employees there) when i was on shostock and they told me they were unaware that the data transfer could even go that fast around here.

i have tried almost all the modems to no avail. shostock runs his on uchc2 so i don't see what the difference between his and the official one is? possibly something in build.prop?
Could it be that he has a UHLPE north american variant? i will go ahead and post the changes he made here for convenience.

now that you have a refreshed brain, any update? :3 (sorry to bother you, but i am in desperate need of this fix, i hate TW but at the same time crappy data speeds is kind of a deal breaker..
I'm thinking it's an apn thing. Others have had success with changing those, and nothing else. There's a thread in general, I think.

how does this give us better tmobile speeds.

better speed doesn't just coz the radio. u use the same radio on different rom. the speed will be different.

I just tried out the tweaks and my speeds have improved. I'll check back on the reliability.
I'm on OnlyOne rom with KIT modem in Southern California.

no problem, guys! just making it more readily available, since that build.prop is a gb base, and alters quite a few other things.
the upload speeds are weak-sauce still (i.e. edge), but i could care less

I added the text to my build.prop and it did not make any difference after reboot. I tried it when it was originally reported and don't recall significant improvement.

Thanks for bringing attention to this, i see a lot of people seem to think it works.
I'm using an ICS based rom (UCLE2 Objection). Will i still be able to use this fix, does it work on ICS ROMs?

[Q] Reception discussion Western NY

Hey guys, I live in the suburbs of Buffalo. Notorious for Sprint having the worst service.. Everyone else is on 4G LTE, but we're stuck with BAD 3g, not even good 3g. I use the google voice app for texts/calls, I've been using it for years, and I plan on keeping my google voice # because I absolutely love the service. I have some reception questions however
- does it matter what radio I'm on? Are radio's compatible with other roms, fx: giverbread radio compatible with ICS? i'm on 1.09.00.706
- does PRL matter that much? I'm on 21090
- does it matter what ROM i'm on?
- please any tips/advice anything I can do to get better service
- also if anyone is from Buffalo/WNY and gets good reception, can you tell me your phone stats, prl, radio, rom, etc
I'm getting horrible service on my phone, reception sucks, 3g dl/upload sucks. In school I don't even dream of getting reception in class/library.. I'm just fing sick of this crap reception.
I also wanted to mention, my buddy has a sprint iphone 4s and his reception is WAY better than mine. He has one of the same classes as me, sits right next to me and he's able to go on the internet, etc on his phone just fine while I get 0 reception! Also we go to the same bar a couple times a week where I get absolutely no reception and he always does. I'm pretty sure it's something with my phone. Also I want to mention this is my 3rd evo 3d, all with the same issue, they have all always been rooted etc, so I can confirm my hardware is not faulty, the phone is practically new.

I will be glad to help answer your questions. Since you are on latest radio firmware. GB roms are not compatible with this radio firmware. If you really like GB, you could always flash the older ruu's which will get you back onto GB.
As for prl, its a bit tricky. Prl's give instructions to tell your phone which towers to run off of and all that good stuff. Sometimes doing a prl update and or a data profile update can cure you of slow 3g speeds. (I have slow 3g speeds myself in my own home) but when i walk away from my house, it gets a little better. There are a couple things you can do. Since you have root you could open your dialer (you have to be on a sense rom for this to work) type##3282#. Under edit, type your msl code (if you know it). If not. Real easy. Download msl reader from googleplay and open the app. It will give you your msl code. No sweat right? Anyway once you enter your msl code there will be a list of option. Click on advance and scoll down to the bottom where it says something like htts or http and click on it. Once inside type these numbers in the correct spot and in the following order:
0.0.0.0
0
0.0.0.0
0
I forgot what the headings were called. Sorry. But if you enter these numbers in the correct spots like i showed you it will give you increased data speeds. After you do that just back of out epst and hit reboot to make sure the changes take place.
Now as to which rom you are on. Sometimes that does matter. Some roms have 3g speeds already tweaked like I had shown you. Generally roms that were built from source or specifically built for that phone have better speeds than ones that were ported from another device. (Due to moderator preference I cannot tell you which ones are the best) So you will have to test them out yourself. You could also try the v6 turbocharge script. Heres the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276.Please read the instructions carefully and get the latest script. I recommend being on a deodexed rom. Make sure you make a nandroid first before attempting this. The script will take you step by step. Also, wipe cache (not dalvik) before you run the script. I forgot to mention, to run this script I recommend smanager from google play. Just remember to enable the app as root and when you get ready to run the script, you have latest busy box and enable su on the script by highlight the skull and crossbone icon. When the script takes you to drive options, there is an option where you can enable 3g tweaks. Turn it on and see if that helps you. (just remember to do a superclean and restart when your done running the script) There was another another script by itself called 3g turbo if you want to give that a shot as well. Its located on the link I provided you. If none of these things work for you, you can always run the scripts again and turn them off plus reboot. If it causes your phone to freeze up or not boot, just restore your nandroid. I hope this helps you out.
