I know there is a way to do this but for some reason when I search all i get is how to factory reset the entire phone.
I simply want to restore the app data on my phone so that I can chose what application will do what when pushed.
FOR EXAMPLE:
When you first install Launcher Pro, the phone asks which Launcher would you like to use. After that, there is writing on how to remove that default. I cannot find how to do that.
Any help? I currently have vplayer on my phone, which I do not want to remove and reinstall but I do not want to it be my default player for certain media types.
Thanks
You need to go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Select whatever app you're looking for to clear defaults for, and hit the clear defaults button once you select that app.

Hi, how I can prevent my EVO 3D from re downloading purchased apps from market after factory reset?? its taking for ever and some apps I dont want anymore so its useless re downloading everything
Open your market, press menu, then press My Apps. It will show all apps being downloaded, look for a "STOP" button on the upper right portion of the screen and press it.
thanks for your reply, will this stop them for ever or they will resume after a phone reboot?
The way to keep them from even starting is to skip the sign in to your Google account on the first boot. If you skip that, you can go through the settings menu and uncheck the auto backup/restore feature, then go and add your Google account.

There are a number of apps that do the same type of thing, Titanium Backup will 'freeze' apps as well as a whole host of additional features.
Then of course, another option is to just rename the apps from *.apk to *.bpk and rebooting.
My personal preference is a third option called Autostarts which is similar to MSconfig in Windows but for Android. The reason being is, it gives you the ability to keep an app from ever running unless you actually tap the app to run it but still allows you to keep the app installed in the event you want to use it. Google Maps comes to mind, I want it installed, I dont want it running in the background.
I dont recommend removing any of the bloatware if you plan on staying on stock but, some of it for US Note users was able to be uninstalled without root via either Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->All Applications, then tap an app and see if uninstall was lit up, if so, sweet. Or, alternatively you could go thru the Market->(Menu Key)->My Apps but not all apps show up in this list. As a side note, I actually manually did a search for many of the apps on the phone and manually updated them because they were not showing up in the market 'My Apps' list.
One other side note, most of the Samsung apps are actually pretty decent, I usually dont touch them. Its the ATT software and the apps ATT took bribe money from third parties that bothers me (Yellow Pages for example).
Oh, and a little known feature of Go Launcher is the ability to hide apps.
Tap the App drawer icon to get to the list of apps on your phone, tap the menu button, tap hide apps. For those of us that havent bothered to root, this at least gives you the ability to not have to look at apps you dont want to see in the app drawer.
Wow thank you for all the info. As far as staying stock, I like making my devices unique to me, I did keep all spen related apps, but killed pretty much everything else. I doubt my phone will ever see an official release of anything, Xda all the way

Just to add I guess a 'fourth' option, I like to use the app 'root toolbox' available on the market with both free and pro versions. Under the advanced menu you can remove any system apps you like but the nice thing is anything you remove is automatically backed up to the root toolbox folder on the internal sd. The backup is done automatically so you dont have to worry about removing something and forgetting to backup first and also gives you the option to restore any system apps you removed simply and easily. Ill be honest the restore feature has saved my bacon many times lol and is also a great way to experiment which apps are safe and unsafe to remove.
Hi folks! Well, I just thought I should stop by and ask cause I can't find anywhere else an answer to my problem.. Here it is:
I have an app that when someone downloads it from the Play Store, recognizes the phone and connects to a server (Internet is needed) so every time I open it I have all my data and my "app activity" shown there. So, here's the thing: I want to sell the phone to a friend of mine, but I don't want (neither does he) to reset to factory because he wants a large amount of the apps I have already intalled and it is part of the price.
So, I ask you: Is there a way to completely remove-uninstall an app and ALL of its data so that there is no way for the app to have MY data displayed (no trace left), and basically the app is "reseted' to factory, so that my friend can use from scratch?
Thanks!
Under application manager select the app you want to "reset" and hit clear cache.

Hey! Thanks for the answer, but I have already tried this and it doesn't work, nor does the deletion of data files of the app in the data\data\[app folder]... Does someone else knows something else I could do?

Accidentally thanked you...
I have been trying to do something similar. There is a game I downloaded (scarface) and played. I tried clearing cache, uninstalling, even formating internal memory through recovery + flashing a new ROM but when I install the game again my previous game info/data is still there !!! Fuuuuuu :nomegusta:
In your case you can try an app like mybackup or romtoolbox to backup apks to SD. Factory reset/flash new rom. Then use same app to install all the apps back minus data.

I think Titanium backup provides the perfect solution for you. You just have to open the particular application and Select Wipe Data.... It just deletes the data that YOU HAVE SAVED AFTER INSTALLATION OF THE APPLICATION OR GAME.... Hope I Helped....

I am also checking different forums to find a solution to this type of problem. If you have noticed any one of the same , plz let me know.
Try deleting the com.appname folder from root/data/data
ps. will need root permissions for that
i think clear cache and clear data in app manager in settings can reset it.
In your case when you dont want to factory reset and remove all your activity from game server you need to contact game developers tell them your situation and if they are kind enough they will help you.
Well many time game devs don't trust you completely and refuse your request. in this case you need to reset your android device ID Which requires ROOT and an app that Reset your device ID.
Its not the game data on your device its your game activity linked to your Device Activity. Factory reset change the device ID some time so you can backup your apps like many of our friends suggested and factory reset your device than restore apps from back up.
one last thing many game has there data linked to your gmail account as well. :good:

An off-topic question: is it good the free version or is it necessary to buy it? I'm using it (still kinda new on the root thing) and i want to now if it's worth than the free one.
clear cache/data. and removing files from file manager for any hard downloads like images, videos etc...
For anyone still trying to find a different method
Go to settings
Click on "apps" "app manager" or whatever else it might be called on different devices.
Delete cashe & data from desired apps.
Also do it to google play and play games app.
Add a new email and delete the one you had before.
Make sure you log out of all apps before starting the process. Some apps will manege to keep you logged in even after deleting the data.
Dropbox is the app that keeps me logged in even after delete cashe and data.
Having trouble installing an app completely no matter what I do
The apps I'm referring to are Mobile Strike and Game of War. I want to start over with this game but it keeps saving all my data. I don't have a new device so I can't simply start a new account. I've tried encrypting my device and then factory resetting, and even creating a new gmail account, but the data is still there. I have a moto e. Thanks in advanced.
Thank you.
I had tried everything.. but finally this worked.
I dont know why google wants to do this stupid thing. Uninstall should mean complete removal for any app.. why it preserves residues to torment us.
You can also get sdmaid app. It has many useful tools but one is a corpse finder and you can wipe all these leftover residue files using that with a push of a button or set it up to do it on its own. Super awesome app imo! Check it out! One of my personal favorite apps!
I am running cyanogenmod 10.1.3 and everything has been great up until just now. When looked at my phone all the apps were missing. If i go to settings and apps I can see all my apps so they are still there but they are not showing up in the app drawer, home screen or dock I cant access them at all. I really need to use my phone but I cant get to my contacts or call long. Suggestions????

that's an odd one.
you might try the following:
1. Reboot the phone if you haven't already.
2. clear the cache on the home app. (Settings > apps > all apps > launcher > "Clear Cache")
3. Its been a while since I've used trebuchet but if it has a reset feature you might try that as well
a.I would guess the easiest way to get to it would be starting at the home screen then hitting menu > launchersettings . reset
(if someone else actually uses that launcher feel free to chime in.)
4. otherwise you might even try downloading a different launcher from the market and see if your apps show up there.
5. if none of that works you can also try rebooting to recovery and wiping cache and dalvik cache. (just don't wipe data or you really will lose your apps)
Thanks. I tried EVERYTHING. Luckily when I turned it back on an app had updated so it showed in the status bar and i could get to google play for that and go to my back up app open it up from google play and back up all my apps. And then someone text so I could get into my contacts and save them from there. (if theses hadnt happened i would have been SOL) Then I rebooted into recovery and wiped everything like I would normally do for a new ROM and flashed 10.1.3 again but it kept coming up with an error tried it three times couldnt get it to work. I even downloaded a new and tried that on and it wouldnt work neither would the new 10.2. So something in the phone just doesnt like that ROM!!! I ended up flashing a slim rom and its working just fine now.
