YouTube lag - Optimus One, P500, V General

Hi,
I have an Optimus One and i'm quite pleased with it.
But lately i have noticed that sometimes videos in the youtube app don't run smoothly. It's quite random and i can't find out whats causing it.
It's not the version of the app because it happens to the updated and to the native app as well.
Do you have any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Upon further investigation i found that the problem isn't in the youtube app itself. It's with the mediaserver service which provides the video playback. When it's starts lagging it's lagging in all apps with video.
I couldn't find any way to restart or kill the /system/bin/mediaserver
Hasn't anyone else come across this problem?

[Q] YouTube App Lag?

When I use the Youtube app on my 3vo, it scrolls smoothly and all, until I begin playing a video on it. Once a video begins playing, when I try to switch tabs when holding the phone in portrait mode, the transitions suddenly become choppy and laggy, whether it be scrolling through comments, or pulling down the notification bar, the entire phone seems to lag once a Youtube video is playing, regardless of it being HD or not. Is anyone else having this issue or have a possible solution? Thanks (Stock ROM)
Maybe upgrade YouTube app.

I believe it already is the newest. 2.3.4 from the market. Do you think it could be a device issue? I've tried wiping 2 times, and the same issue is happening.
No its not device issue. What r u streaming YouTube videos 3/4g or WiFi??

I use WiFi and 3G mainly, but I've experienced the issue regardless of the connection type, and also whether it be in HD or SD format.

Ok are you rooted? Have you cleared cache and data on the app??

I am not rooted, I also cleared the data and cache as you suggested, but I have the same issue. I noticed that when I pause the video, however, it seems to respond faster.. Not as fast as no video playing, but a noticeable improvement over when the video is playing and I attempt to scroll.
I hate to be a downer but this phone does not handle a few things very well, namely the youtube app and it also is slow as hell when you get thousands of texts. I think this is a sense issue personally.
I thought Sense may be the cause to it. I'm not sure if other people are experiencing the issue though, whether it be that a custom ROM solves it or my device is just 'special'..

The problem you are experiencing is universal. Scrolling while watching a video causes lag in the youtube app.

Thank you. I thought it was just my device that did this, because there were no other threads which mentioned this, which I find strange because my old HeroC did it smoothly, and now the 3VO is struggling with it. Do you know if a custom ROM or kernel resolves this?
I have the same problem as well. When playing videos in the youtube app, I get a lot of lag.
I can actually navigate the desktop version of the youtube site with less lag than the youtube app.

I've experienced this problem on numerous ROMs. In regards to kernels, I don't even know. I doubt that a kernel will eliminate the lag, but I'm not one to say.
I am also getting this issue with both youtube and vevo app. When i play videos from my sd card with mx video player, they play flawlessly. So hopefully when ics comes out this problem is fixed.... :/

This is normal and I think it has been posted a few times. Basically it's the lack of gui hardware acceleration on Android gingerbread. If you try out an ICS rom you will see its smoother. Probably not as smooth as you like but smoother than it is on gingerbread.
Don't think its normal. YouTube works fine for me. HD and normal videos play without an issue. Upload and download works fine as well. I'm running SteelH's rom with Chads#50 kernel. Youtube has never giving me a problem in the app or VIA stock browser. So I don't think it has to do with the hard ware acceleration at all. My wife has my old hero and YouTube works fine for her as well. Also my sister and brother both have the EVO4g and youtube works fine for them. Have you guys tried a different version of the app ??? Like an older ver?? Or a newer one ??

I get this issue too, no way is it normal as this is the first phone I have used to have this strange behaviour.

Yeah its weird for me because all my movies and videos that are loaded onto my sd card work great. No lag or issues but when it comes time to YouTube or vevo and even vimeo.... It will lag or skip the video around the end or halfway but the sound keeps playing.. Very frustrating.

If you try the YouTube app on ics it works fine and no lag...
I wish I could go on ics.... But I use the camera and 4g a lot haha

[Q] Youtube stutter then tablet reboots

No other app causes this and it doesn't happen all the time... but occasionally while watching youtube the video will suddenly start replaying the same second or so over and over (stutter) then when I try to go back or exit, the tablet reboots. Anyone else have this problem?
I had this problem but ever since .21 never had it
Still having this problem. Only noticed it with youtube.

youtube app shows wrong video (same all the time)

Hi
as of today i noticed, that the youtube app on my phone is not playing the videos i request. but instead it always starts the video that seems to be an advertising video for pet tamagochi android app
the old (and modified to download videos [rolletube] ) version also has this behaviour.
i noticed this today, after updating to the latest cm9 nightlie but it is well possible this has been for a while, i haven't been watching youtube for a week
Is my system infected or is there a youtube bug?
Help me please!

I've faced this problem before. Actually, I've figured out it was caused by the proxy apps i used ( Proxy droid and Auto proxy ). I used these apps because the internet service in the university requires authentication which is not supported by android for all apps. The only workaround I've found is after the wrong video get played, press the HD button and the right video will be played now. It worked for me that way but I lost the ability to play the right videos in HD.
I've had this problem since Oct 2011. what's freaking me is that most of the wrong videos it plays are too sexual. I and hundred other users highlighted the issue to Google but no response yet..5 months now waiting for their tech support..
What version of the Youtube app are you running? I've never come across this problem on my phone, and I have a Galaxy like you.

video lag in browsers

hi guys,
looked through the fora but could not find something maybe someone can help me out.
I have bad lag when i watch flashvideos in my browsers. all of them same lag. standardbrowser, skyfire, mozilla, dolphin.
Anyone with the same problem and even better anyone a solution?
Yeah I started thread couple week ago. It's in a q& a section. Unfortunately, there's no solution as of yet regarding video freezing but sound keep playing when streaming on network. Playing on wifi works fine.
One thing I found helps is restarting phone before starting Netflix for example or watching from browser.
Also note YouTube app does not suffer from this, so sometimes if it's a YouTube video embedded in the Page I just click on video link to be able to watch in the app instead of browser.

Flash doesn't lag on the GS3. But it does freeze frequently. If it lags then very likely you aren't actually using flash but the html5 player instead.
Netflix app does not actually use nor is dependant on flash. Also uninstalling flash completely, so that videos that do play, default to html5, still freeze while sound keeps playing, which leads to conclusion that it's not flash issue.

Try ICS Browser+ from Google play...
Flash videos did lag for me initially, so I tried clearing the application data but that wasn't possible. So I installed flash 10, which was incompatible, then updated it using Google Play to flash 11 and it seems to work better now.

Music and video problems with LG G Stylo (Boost)

I've been having a problem since I got my LG G Stylo from Boost. When watching videos and listening to music using any app capable of doing so, the video or music will pause itself randomly and after a bit it will start playing again or it will play after I manually un-pause it. I'm not sure what's causing it. I know some newer and more expensive phones have features that will pause video if the phone detects that you aren't looking at it but these features usually apply to video, not music and even at that my phone doesn't seem to have that feature as I cannot locate a setting control for it. This happens in any app that can play video including videos played in Chrome and it happens in any app that is capable of music playback, which the only two I have are the native music app and Google Play Music. I've read on the internet that it could be caused by another app on my phone but I don't have any apps capable of doing this. I've also read that this can happen when switching networks but my phone is on WiFi most of the time and only switches to 4G when leaving the house which isn't that often. I don't see any reason why this would be happening. I've never had this problem with any other phone and I don't really have any apps on this phone that I didn't have on my last phone. Note that this is my first phone running Lollipop (5.1.1) and I'm starting to think that Android itself is the culprit but I'm not sure. I recently rooted my phone but the problem existed before that and I had the phone for over a month before I attempted root. This is really annoying and I'd like to be able to fix it so anything helps, thanks.
yeah
Resolved the issue. It was Telegram 3.5.1 that caused the problem. I'm on 3.6.1 Now and the issue has gone.
