[Q] To Buy or not to Buy (X10 responsiveness)) - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, i know that for some of you buying an X10 right now is kind of pointless because there are a lot of available new phones but at the moment it's the only decent android device (1Ghz CPU) my carrier (Movistar Uruguay (movistar.com.uy)) is offering and is actually the best phone any carrier here is bringing. Buying an Unlocked one is out of question because of the insanely high prices (Galaxy S U$S ~1500) and no one i know is going to the US any time soon. So i can get the X10 in Movistar here at the same price of the X10 unlocked in the US (still pretty expensive).
Enough of background, i had the chance to try the Desire (U$S 1200! (tic.com.uy/HTC/)) and i found it to be snappier and more responsive than the X10. I mean, the Desire experience was what i expected but the X10 let me somewhat disappointed. Specially when sliding through the home screens and list scrolling. I can compare the Desire with the iPhone 3GS but the X10 seems it's below that. Even in Youtube videos.
Has anyone experienced that too? I know it was running Donut but nonetheless it felt like my firend's nokia 5230 or even the Samsung Star (which i think is also s5230). Heck, even the X8 running donut felt snappier. Maybe I'll go give it another try but this is kind of the only thing stopping me now with pinch n zoom around the corner and custom Froyo eventually available.
Sorry if i made it too long but i want to get my bang from my bucks. Hopefully while i make up my mind some other devices are going to be available, but now all the attention is in the iPhone 4 and RIM over here. Not so much on android.
Thanks for reading.

I liked X10 work pretty well but I have to say 384mb of ram may not be enough for play
I really bad thing is flash does not work
go for galaxy S i9000

Thanks for the quick reply but did you read what i said? 1500 US dollars for the galaxy. I mean, I tried it. it's great, gorgeous, but to my pocket it's not U$S 1000 better.
What i want to know is about the lag when panning and scrolling, because is practically the same hardware as the desire but the response in the desire is perfect.
Which games aren't suited for 384mb? is there a lot of difference? I don't plan to do hardcore gaming either. just some angry birds or something like that. I just want to get a good android experience like syncing, browsing, video, music, some drawing, etc.

If you wanna a solid long lasting device - buy X10. If you wanna play around with tech and change gadgets as fast as they appear at the market and go fashionable - don't buy X10. Simple.
SE is a kind of Rolls Royce here.

I want a solid lasting device but that kind of things are ceasing to exist, that's why i'm aiming to a high end right now which will be considered mid range in a year or too.
I like SE, my first phone was a K310 and only changed it when i got my G705(now flashed to W715).
But again, what i really want to know is if anyone here was able to use the X10 and compared it to a similar specs phone (Desire, N1, SGS, Milestone) and found the X10 considerably slower/laggier than the others, if it's something which was fixed in 2.1 or not at all.
I repeat: I want to get it, but want to be sure, but don't want to be disappointed.

As i said in the first post, i'm bound to what my carrier offers and right now the only high-end android it's the xperia. The smartphone market here it's very small at the moment, it's growing and the carriers are noticing it. But it's very much about iPhone, RIM and some Nokias (n95, 5230).
Is it possible for any Mod to change the thread name?
[Q] Is X10 laggier than similars? (Planing to buy)
Thanks

Try to read this post ^_^
I don't have and haven't tried other phone you mention but my X10i is very responsive and can accommodate all my need. I play Angry birds, and even Pocket Legend. ^^

If you wait until after christmas, I can buy a new x10 or captivate/i9000m for you and ship it to you for under $600 (unlocked). Even with duties and whatnot, you should still come out paying a lot less!
I say AFTER Christmas because I don't feel like lining up at the post office
The I9000m is the model with a front facing camera (2cams) and FM radio built-in (the captivate doesn't have either of those), but the captivate is the better option for you. It is a bit more sturdy, isn't known to have a large failure rate for internal memory like the i9000m, and there are ROMs coming out the whazzuu for it Also this phone is silky smooth when cycling through backgrounds, meanwhile the x10 is limited to 32fps until somebody does something about it.
The X10 is the better option if you want an even more solid device, MUCH BETTER GPS (much much better), a notification LED, and camera LED and an overall better camera.
People did some tests in which showed the galaxy S camera is better in many types of light but if you fiddle with the manual settings, the X10 camera is considerably better!

Thank you, can't wait to give it another try tomorrow at the store and with a lot of hope it performs right.
Have you seen any performance improvement since 1.6 or by removing SE apps?
I know i'm being too nitpicky but i can't stand even a half second lag when scrolling and swyping. I watched all the videos in yt and gsmarena and in 1.6 they always touch, stop and then slowly move the fingers like they have to wait for the phone to keep up, and even then the thing they're moving stays behind the finger... in 2.1 gets better but it's still not like desire.
That said i'd probably get it next week if nothing else is offered in the next few days.
Thank you again to all.

Of course there are performance improvement ( except Blurry in Call Pics T__T ). And improve even more if you applied optimizer like Jit for example. You could find the FAQ from my signature. ^^

This is why I stick to SE. They keep this principle in their flagships. Not in budget models.

Even Swiss bank doesn't give any guarantees. Forget it. Take what you like more. And don't stick to specs - they says nothing. I used to post it in another thread, but it fits here too:
"I have maybe a little politically incorrect point of view on the cell phone (and other technical stuff) design. It is about the culture. Not about "don't littering", but about engineering. Ericsson (and Sony Ericsson) has pretty long history that gave them experience. HTC, Samsung, etc are relatively young and most of their problems are rooted there. Look - overall satisfaction for X10 without the last technology bells and whistles like OLED or multitouch is higher, than hi-tech-packed rival's devices. Why? Because according to the experience, they realize, that it is impossible to be perfect and it is better to concentrate to ergonomics issues. The device should be easy-to-use, foolproof and hard-to-break. That can be understood through the long experience of analyzing how it works through the life of the device. Typical life of Samsung is around a year. My friend changes around 5 or 6 phones (3 or 4 of them were Samsungs), when I used the same SE k790a. And it works fine for now. Another conclusion is to buy a flagship. Budget devices of any manufacturer always have issues. I know, all those galaxies are claimed to be top-models, flagships, bla-bla-bla. But I bet, some months of using reminds you my note about engineering experience."

It is globalization here, dude. You can buy anything you want at ebay, for example. And price won't be $1200 or something like this. If you want something you like, you should pay for that. My carrier is T-Mobile US and over years it has never had any phones I'd like to have, particularly no one SE flagship. So I bought them somewhere else. You are lucky - your carrier has X10, so take it. iPhone, as any Apple's creation, is traditionally overpriced and underdeveloped. RIM is too corporate-conservative, but has pretty good niche there. Nokia is done technologically until they wake up and forget their stoneaged Symbian, but they are budget-market monsters, you don't want them. And you forgot Motorola. From time to time they launch amazingly good devices.

I'm talking about the price I can get it unlocked here, in Uruguay, where phones, pcs, cameras and tvs cost 2x the MSRP in the US, not the ebay or amazon price. It's very different the way in wich prices drop, in the US the prices stay at the MSRP for maybe 2 months and then they get great cuts. Here, if today the GalaxyS costs $1200 then one year from now it may keep at 1000. Oh, i love customs taxes!
Good thing is that if i buy it now i can sell it in a year for about the same price i'm getting it today.
*sigh!* Enough of third world depressing stories.

Oops, I forgot about miracles of third, fourth and other worlds... It is so easy to accustom to good things and forget other realities... I know what you mean - my friends from Russia always ask me to buy something for them if they plan to go to the US. They are able to avoid taxes, when bring things with them. Post service in Russia is a complete disaster. If death could be delivered by mail, people would never die in Russia - it would be delivered after world's end or just stolen.
And bribes are always lower, than taxes. I bet you know that.

A great cosmic joke:
Went to my local Movistar decided to give the X10 another try.
Me: Hello, I'm interested in renewing my contract and i would like to see the X10 please. (in spanish and less formal of course)
Movistar Employee: no can do sir there's no stock until Jan 1st.
Me: oh cr%#p!
About the Post Service
Actually the post service here it's not bad at all, I receive books and blurays from amazon in about a week. But books, magazines, cds, dvds and blurays have no tax but everything else over $100 has $150 of tax + ~50% of the cost. So for buying something at $101 in the US I have to pay roughly $300. It's great!
I usually get my electronics in the US when someone close travels but no one is going to for a while.
What really matters
We're going off-topic here. plain and simple:
1- Is the X10 touchscreen as laggy as in YT videos or is there a way to fix it?(custom ROMs with Jit seen on YT are also affected)
2- Is it only on the home and unlock screen or also applications suffer from this? Someone said that fast games were unbearable because of the slow response.
3- Is it normal that when typing fast the device skips some tappings?
Pleeeease, I really like the X10 but i'll be stuck with it for 1-2 years and $500 will be stripped from my pocket. I know the overall experience is great but I need to have instant feedbak of what i'm doing. I'd hate to treat a supposed to be high end phone with capacitive screen like a low end one with resistive screen: press, then sloooowly move the finger to where you want, then when the object is where you want, (sure?) then release. Sense UI can do it, even in lower specs phones and even the other SE X8 and X10 mini do better.
Alright, flame me if i'm being an a$$ but i reaaally want to get an android phone and start playing with custom ROMs and be a contributing part to the community. I'll do it but someone pleeease honestly answer this questions first. The faster you answer, the faster i'll decide.
Thank you all

It reminds me old good Soviet time of total deficit: If you see something good, grab it first, then think if you need it.
Try Movistar's office somewhere in the middle of nowhere. I mean in low income areas - they still can have some expensive gadgets at shelves. Come on, I remember those tricks, but you use them in everyday life, like a gift for the salesman or just palms oiling.

I have a good news for you - buy your lovely X10 in parts that cheaper, than $100 and assemble them home. You'll proudly can have a sticker on it - "Hand made". It is a little complicated and risky, but you can ask your seller to claim that this device is out of order, for parts and cost less, than $100. And, of course, with two separate transactions.

Never experienced this, but once the touchscreen overreacted at any touch and made some crazy things. I turned the phone off and after reboot it never happen again. Some lags can be in browser, but I think, it is not because of touchscreen, but partially downloaded pages. Same problem can be in YT videos since they are real time streams.

I mentioned already overreaction - just before it went completely crazy, there was double and tripple typing errors. I tapped once, but it produced two or three taps - letters or backspaces. It was once and it doesn't look like regular specifically X10 problem. Out of extreems - maybe I type slow at the phone, but it works fine for me.
I tried my friend's LG enV Touch VX11000 - I hate it - requires hard press and pretty laggy. I had iPhone - it works almost the same for me as X10 - fast reaction of touchscreen and interface both.

As you mention, every member of Xperia family works different, so I assume, that those differences are from the actual set of running programs and services. If you are going to play with custom ROMs, you always can modify your phone for faster work or for fancier view. I think, the X10 is the best hardware guinea pig for those purposes especially after the bootloader cracking.

Yes I experience it sometime when I haven't release my first finger but already press another key on the keyboard. But I think it will resolve when MT driver come to Rachael. ^_^
Sent from my X10i using XDA App

There's no lag for me at all. But I use Startup Auditor and Advance Task killer when I first boot or reboot my X10. It's too fast that sometimes when I am slow to type, it will type two of the same letter before i can lift my finger on the keys...

My X10 doesn't lagg, it's fast. With and without JIT.
But with the snow live wallaper it laggs sometime on the homescreen, maybe because of Launcher Pro Plus...
But owners of the Desire posted the same I think.

[Q] Would you buy again?

I don't currently own a G Tablet. I'm in the market for a tablet though. Would you guys buy this device again?? How is development community? I was thinking about buying a Barnes and Noble nook, but for 50 dollars more you can get this device with much better hardware. What do you guys think as owners of this device?

For sub $300 BNIB and sub $250 (used with accessories) hell yes
And BTW I do have a nook color as well as a gtab.
Just check all the threads here about the honey comb port, over clocking kernels, custom ROMs, ..
In a skinny minute.
No. The screen is just abysmal. I knew going in the poor viewing angles and reflectivity. But I cannot stress enough how poor on both counts. The screen is so poor that color shifts occur at the edges when viewing straight on. The angles so poor that rotations, very normal and expected with a pad, are visually tedious on the yes. Each orientation offers its own set of problems.
I love the hardware. I love the tweakability. I'm a hardcore Android phone user of almost two years now. I am committed to Android over iOS. But I just cannot tolerate the screen.
In a heartbeat! I have a number of Android devices and the Grab is my favorite! I bought for the price and stayed because I love it.

Mine is still stock, and I use it daily, for web and news. My son has CM7 on his.

Yup. Love it.
Well it's been a week with the one I bought for my kid....
And I am trying to talk myself off the ledge of buying 1-2 more, it is that good...
I never booted the stock rom, went right to Vegantab7, smooth as silk....XDA should be PAID BIG TIME by viewsonic...Really viewsonic might consider letting XDA run their tablet division, and they would SMOKE all competition.
I am a hardcore laptop user, but this thing really could replace quite a lot, except for windows specific apps...
Plus I can tether wirelessly through my rooted OG droid, really elegant all around..
Money WELL spent.
Good luck.
Scott
Without a doubt! Running Honeycomb thanks to the development community!
I wouldn't pay the original $399 but for under $300 its the best bang for the buck. I'm hoping to get a second one soon. I like the nook but the 7 inch screen is just too small. I really don't get all the complaints about the screen.
I have two G-Tablets. After purchasing the first one, I really thought the whole screen issue was overblown, so when I saw an ad for a used tab with a case and micro sd for $200, I jumped on it. As it turns out, the viewing angels are noticeably worse. I have to believe there are quality control issues from the Chinese manufacturer, and explains the amount of people who complain of this. The original one did not have a great screen, but it was acceptable. The latter, however, is worse yet. My opinion only.
My biggest complain against purchasing again would have been the lack of vendor support. However this has been resolved based on the support of the developers here and elsewhere. I would not however, pay more than $250 for the device, as it is clearly reaching its end of hardware life; although the developers are extending its software life.
The device is also a good gateway into the world of android and should help people decide what type of device to purchase in the future. One with 'proven' vendor support vs one that is more risky. Which in reality translates into more expensive verus less.
I also think the only way to explain the wide range in screen experiences, has to be build based. I don't have problem with the screen; to me it looks and behaves as a typical netbook screen would.
So my answer would be, I would buy again if I could find one around $250 and could be assured of the screen quality.
Nope, I returned mine after 7 days. The screen is truly awful (or was on mine) and while the developer support is great and certainly makes the device worlds better than it is stock, my opinion is that it's still too flawed. I kept running into things that simply wouldn't work (multiple apps and widgets) and these issues were causing me to fuss with more than just use the device. But what it did show me was that I think I would enjoy regularly using a tablet so for now I'll wait for Asus to ramp up production of the Transformer and for $100 more than G-Tab I'll have something with a native OS that runs and a screen that is likely to be 10x better. Or for less $ I may pick up a Nook color and mess around with that.
That's my 2c anyway.
Absolutely. I don't know where else you'll match the value (price/performance combo).
The screen could bother some...depends on your expectations. For me, it's a non issue. The audio issue (occasional steady buzz that takes a reboot to fix) is worse for me.
If you expect a $600+ device, this isn't it. But it's close, and can be had for less than half that.
I did buy mine. I agree that it's an amazing tablet and the community is awesome! But the screen is horrendous.
Now that I've got Netflix installed, I am very happy. In the process, I've come to the conclusion that the CM7 nightlies are the way to go if only for the increased battery life. Also, TNT and Vegan both had the deep sleep problems that I have yet to encounter with CM7
So, yes. It took a while, but I've finally gotten this to run the way I want it to. I'd certainly buy again at the WOOT! pricepoint.
Probably not. Its a great tablet for the price, but the vendor support just isn't there. The best support/info is from this site.
Just too many bugs with it.
But I must admit that I mostly use it for surfing the net while I am at work, and that does it just fine.
Absolutely!
I made an educated decision to buy it in the first place. I came here and other forums to research and understood that I was getting a tablet that had a lackluster screen, really good internals, and a crappy default OS. However I also knew that the quality of the ROMs and community support here on XDA and was comfortable with that. I did not walk into this blind and I think that makes my answer easier.
The screen is not as bad as I thought it would be. So that has not been an issue for me. I do think it is inconsistent or some people are making it sound worse than it is. Maybe a personal issue or preference.
However for less than $300 I have a device and with Vegan Ginger on it, I have had both IPAD and Xoom users be shocked how good it is for half the price.
My intention was also to purchase one of these for a lower price and wait for this rush of new tablets to come out. You generally see much better products after the initial rush. This way in a year I will hand this to my kids and get a high end tablet that will most likely blow anything that is out there now, out of the water.

[Poll] I'm returning. Are you?

I'm going to return my tablet to Amazon and wait for something better. I have been using the 10.1 non stop for the past two weeks and it is awesome. The few problems it has are with HC and not the hardware. However, I feel the processing power needs to be a bit higher for 1280x720 resolution and we need more video codecs. Nvidia say they won't make the same mistake with the upcoming quadcore, and since it's only 2 months away, the wait feels justified to me.
Don't get me wrong, this tablet owns all other HC tablets at the moment. I just would be very pissed off if the new tablets like the Amazon Hollywood appeared this Christmas and completely destroyed the performance of my 10.1 along with playing nearly any video I copy onto it.
I urge anyone still within their return period to consider sending it back. It would be one thing if the new tablets were 5 or 6 months out, but 2 months is too close.

You do understand that if you actually lived by that way of thinking, you would literally (seriously, joking aside) never own a tablet...? Because lets say you were thinking about the original G-Tab when it first came out...but then heard that Honeycomb was on its way, so you waited...then Honeycomb shows up with its array of tablets (the Tegra 2 generation)...and as tempting and highly-praised as they may be, you then hear about the next round of Honeycomb tablets (with quadcores )...but wait! not all that long after that should be the Ice Cream Sandwich debut with yet ANOTHER suite of tablets (with maybe hexa- or octo-core chips! ), so I'm guessing you should wait for THOSE to come out, right?!?
No offense man, but I really wish people would come up with more logical, legitimate, and justifiable excuses for not buying new pieces of electronics, because face it - it is a 100% certainty that within 6 months of your purchase of said piece of electronics, it WILL be outdated to some extent. Like it or not, it is a virtual guarantee that within that amount of time the successor generation of products (in this case tablets) will hit the market with better specs and features than that of the product you bought. And that is a stone-cold fact something that all of us as fans of electronics and gizmos simply have to come to grips with.

If you read my OP, you would see my reasoning which should be more than justified with the next slew of more powerful tablets. 6 months is fine to me. Not 2 months, though.
I'll give you an example. I recently built myself a computer and started out with an X58 and a Core i7-950. About a month and a half later, the new P67 boards came out and that awesome i7-2600K with them. I asked on many forums what I should do and most said I should be happy with what I had. I ignored that advice and couldn't be happier. But, when I was building the 2600K rig, everyone kept telling me I was wasting my time because Z68 boards. I don't care about the upcoming Z68 boards because I'm very pleased with my PC. It's far superior to the i7-950 build and it will last for quite some time.
Tegra2 just isn't powerful enough. I can't even use a live wallpaper without stuff becoming sluggish and you can't argue that one. Try moving an icon around with a live wallpaper running.
Their pricey toys...not investments.
Well, in my case they sure are an investment literally, doing post-graduation the laod of coursebooks is unbearable, these a step ahead from usual e-ink crap have helped me a lot, adding the annotation feature. It ain't mere multimedia box where you throw all 1080p movies (God knows from where!) and expect playback or else failure. Consider the excellent resolution, the browser experience with flash and excellent apps around (actually mean the THD games!) plus QUick office HD (as free!!! take this iPAD) and pdf readers like Repligo and eZpdf.
One man's bad experience doesn't justify the claimed redundancy of such a wonderful piece of technology! Quad-cores ahead, sure let'em on, more fun is ahead, massive multitasking and profound browser experience with emerging social networks like google+ and prevalent Fbook!
In short, Screw you man! I am keeping mine!

I definitely love the very last sentence of this.
Now see I'm not saying the tablet is a bad experience. But I think it's a good idea to hold out a few months. It's the same thing with phones. I really like the Sensation and the Evo 3D, but the Nexus is coming this Christmas too. I've been patiently waiting for it.

So are you honestly going to say that right about when the time comes for you to buy the phone you're holding out for and you hear rumors swirling about the next phone after that (and this will happen, by the way, it has happen with every single major period of Android-related releases so far), that you won't be tempted to do the same thing over again (that is, hold off until that comes out?). You seem to be missing the point - if you subscribe to this it will unarguably be an endless circle. And it is by no means your fault necessarily, its the Apples, Samsungs, HTCs, LGs, Sonys, Motorolas, Toshibas, etc of the world who are coming out with newer generations of productions, not yearly, or even every 6 months, but most often even less than that. Of course the good side of that is the technology is progressing super fast these days, so I guess that's the tradeoff that we all have to live with - major progression and innovation of tech but with each piece getting trumped by the next every few months
I can honestly say I will get the Nexus 3 or whatever it will be called, regardless of upcoming rumors around that time. As long as it's not done like the Nexus S was. A clone of a phone already out.

Well I can definitely agree on you with the Nexus S - I am an N1 owner, from the day of launch, and I have yet to see another new phone on the market since then that can hold a candle to that phone, period. Now that being said, we'll all have to wait and see what the N3 will be all about. If you recall, the Nexus S was rumored to have quite a lot going for it...until it saw the light of day, at which point we were all like, "what?". So clearly the N3 has some really big shoes to fill, and hopefully those developing it realize this completely.

I've been waiting for a Verizon phone with a dual core and LTE forever now and guess what, it'll probably be outdated when it arrives, maybe I should hold off for a quad-core, kal-el, or maybe a 6-core or just maybe wait 25 years in hopes that phones are so advanced every new one will be just like the others (wont happen). Buy now and use it for a few year and sell it on ebay and pay a couple more dollars to get the next gen.
There will always be something newer and faster. And just like our tab, they too will not be perfect.
I definitely understand the point you guys are making. But I'm not concerned about having the newest and best. It's about getting something that works well and also satisfies. If I'm dropping 500 dollars, I want to be completely happy with my purchase and I'm not with the 10.1.
EDIT: I'm going to sign up for that AMEX membership so I can have that option in the future as well.

I understand your thought process, but herein lies the problem:
You returned your old PC and upgraded it and I am sure you are extremely pleased with what you have. Now, if you would have kept your i7-950 build you would have also been extremely pleased with it.
With the way hardware technology is advancing, software developers cannot keep up. How many applications do you have that take advantage of the extra speed of that newer generation processor? Heck, how many applications are there that actually take use of anything higher than a dual core processor? Not many - and in your case, there's probably only a handful of applications that will use the newest generation processors to their potential. In all likelihood you don't use these, and even if you do, you only use them extremely rarely.
The same thing is happening in the Tablet field, although to a stronger extent. I actually don't know of any applications that take use of the dual-core processors in newer generation phones and tablets. In fact, Froyo and Gingerbread don't even take use of dual-core processors at the kernel level. Applications being built for mobile devices just aren't likely to be designed with multi-threading in mind.
Keep this in mind when you are deciding to take your tablet back - but I wish you good luck nonetheless.
You bring up some good points. I play a lot of PC games and noticed a good amount of difference, but outside of games not much.
And there's is a good chance I could get *screwed* with a quad core tablet that overheats and has horrible battery life. We'll see.

Why do you think you need to urge people to consider returning their Tabs? We're not children who need to be reminded of our options as consumers. Your ex post facto reinterpretation is nearly as patronizing as your original post.
While I give you credit for acting civil in your posts -- an unusual accomplishment in this genre of threads -- it still appears to me that you're just looking to provoke polarizing responses. Whether the Tab is or isn't a good purchase for someone is matter of personal opinion. No poll or discussion is going to change that.

HK-10K android development

I've been surfing around for a cheap android tablet running ICS and I found the HK-10K. Problem is I have no idea if it's a rebrand or a knock off or what:
http://www.merimobiles.com/HK_10K_10inch_Android_4_0_Amlogic_AML8726_M_ARM_Co_p/meri3551.htm
Anyone have anything good or bad to say about these?
Wow! i want one!
been looking for some decent fake ICS tablet with decent spec for a while
but it's only single core 1.2 Ghz still not bad
1 GB RAM
great for games, which is what i want it for
$205 price tag + free shipping sounds great
however the only gotcha i don't like is that website, never deal with them, can't say if they are safe or not
time to check DX and see if they carry it
Feedback
Yeah, I'm familiar with the product. I'm one of a growing number of tablet users who enjoys operating the pinch/zoom feature by placing my testicles on the tablet and manipulating them with a combination of muscle contraction, ice cubes, and prostate stimulation. In the short time I had to test this product at Best Buy I found it satisfied all my demands and then some. You'll find you don't need to shave as often since the screen is durable enough to take even several days worth of stubble without scratching and the front facing camera has exceptional micro detail for close range "aiming down the sights" photography.
All in all this is great product and fantastic bargain. I'll definitely be buying one immediately after posting bail.
1024x600 for 10.1" screen? Really?
Even though it's not released yet, but this look more optimistic.

They are safe, I bought MID816 from them last year.
Ordered mine a week ago, shipping should take 2-3 weeks. Know alot of peeps who ordered on this website, all orders were delivered.
Just recieved mine yesterday. Overall pretty nice tablet and well worth its money. Unfortunatly ive have problem with the battery and I hope someone here has an idea on how to fix this. Cus I dont feel like shipping the device back to Hong Kong all the way from the Netherlands :/
Once its fully charged ill disconnect the tablet and the percentage drops to like +/-60%. Sometimes its a lil above it, sometimes its a lil lower. And it also drains the juice like a moddafokka.. I can maybe use for 1 hours nonstop, then it has to charge again.
Now I know i bought a budget device from some unknown brand, but still shouldnt this be a little better?
On adroid phones its possible calebrate your battery. Not sure if you need root access for this though. Should that be possible with a tablet like this aswell? And does any of you know any way to make this happen? Or at least fix my batter issues. Cus I hate paying 200 dollars for this kind of crap.
Any other advice regarding this issue is very much appericiated.

Ditching iPhone for GNote

I've been an iPhone user since they first hit the market for no other reason than I'd always been an iPod user and I liked the concept of syncing everything to a single device. Sure, I could have made the Android switch a while ago but there wasn't a phone out there that really captured me quite like the GNote has.
Anyone else ditching their iPhone for the GNote?
I was kind of in the same boat as you. I had 3 different models of iPhone, before I finally got tired of the same ole restricted, small screen device and decided to jump ship when the rumored iPhone 5 wasn't to be. I went with the Galaxy Skyrocket, and have a white Note on preorder. I can tell you, it was the best decision I ever made! I couldn't fathom going back to an iPhone at this point. The openness of Android has been great.
I am dropping the iPhone 4s for the GNote. I don't have any real issues with the 4s but over time the Apple environment has felt restrictive to me. I use the bejeesus out of my phone too and the extra real estate and improved specs of the Note are valuable to me.
I had the Intl version for a few weeks and absolutely loved it (even though it completely crapped out on me). Great screen and Android is so much more enjoyable to live within if you have any "geek" tendencies at all.
The GNote will act as both smartphone and tablet for me - I have already passed my iPad on.

What do you mean by openness besides greater customization than the iPhone (except when jailbroken)? While I've kept a watch on what's been going on with Android as a platform I've not read into as much as I probably should have in terms of what it can do, or better yet what a user can do. Being a previous iPhone user yourself, what do you like best about the Android platform?

Mine will act as both as well. I love the real estate of this phone. 5.3" is a lot. It looks like the difference between Rhode Island and Texas when compared to the iPhone (ok, maybe a little dramatic). At this point I think the kids have used my iPad more than I have. I used to take it to work all the time but lately I've been just leaving it at home. Don't get me wrong, I love my iPad, but carrying two devices around isn't something I want to do which is why I went the iPhone route to begin with. The GNote brings me back to a single device that serves multiple (practically speaking) purposes.
I currently using the IP4, I am dropping the 4S for the GNote.
I'm switching from iP as well. Last phone I actually purchased was a 3g. Loved it . . . it was amazing at the time . . . lol. My cousin gave me his 3gs when he upped to the 4s and even the difference there was night and day for me.
Same thing as you, though . . . no phone wowed me until I saw this thing. I was brainstorming in September when I decided I wanted a new phone. I wanted a tablet and a phone but didn't think it existed. I Googled things like "phone tablet hybrid" and eventually came across the Note. Haven't looked back since and next Friday is the day I've been crossing my fingers for . . .
By the way have you guys held one yet? Or passed by best buy and held their dummy model yet to get a feel of the actual size? its bigger than the iphone for sure. But doesnt weigh a whole lot more. This thing weighs almost the same as my htc inspire.

I have not. Was at a local BB last Friday before the pre-order and when I asked them about it they all looked confused. They couldn't even confirm if I could pre-order with them.
I did however play around with the Samsung Galaxy Player they had on display. For my hands it felt big but comfortable. I could easily reach from one side of the screen to the other with one thumb, and it felt great in landscape with both hands. I don't think the specs are exactly the same in terms of dimensions between the GPlayer and the GNote but I think it's pretty close.
Next weekend can't come soon enough...

Luckily the girl I asked for the note display model at bestbuy went into a cabinet and pulled one out but of course the display wasnt even on and was fake. And yes then I went to the galaxy player, not much different. Maybe the note was a little taller, wider but I believe thinner. The weight was identical. The display was nice and thats only and 800x480 resolution.
This may be the longest week ever lol.

I completely agree! I've watched so many YouTube videos since the GNote hit the UK (and beyond) streets and have been waiting for it to find ours ever since. Hell, I've watched countless videos in languages I don't even understand just to see how this thing works for them. From what I've seen and watch in the last few months the GNote is truly amazing and I can't wait to finally get my giddy little hands on it.
The only other concern for you iphone users is the camera/video.
I havent seen the greatest reviews of photos and videos from the note where as the iphone camera is suppose to be one of the "best". I'm so hoping the at&t version note takes good pics and vids.

I didn't make the move to the iPhone 4s which does have a much better camera that the iPhone 4. From what I've seen, the GNote takes much better shots and videos that the iPhone 4. However, I myself don't take a lot of pics and vids with my current phone. The issues I've seen and read in regard to the camera function of the GNote did not play into my decision to make the switch. I've used my iPhone camera from time to time but when I know I'm going to events where I will take a lot of pictures I use my DSLR for that. Honestly, the only time I ever really needed my iPhone for a camera was when I was rear-ended early last year. That was really the only time I was glad to have some form of camera on me.
I am also switching from the IP4 to the GNote. And again, like many users said, none of the android phones really made me interested. I like the skyrocket, but I really want a HD resolution. But then I saw the Note, and how big the screen was, and im sold.
Ive played with the galaxy player, and thought it was a good size. Maybe ill sell my ipad2 after getting this phone.

Actually, my 13yo daughter told me she wanted the GPlayer instead of a new iPod when she graduates (if they call it that anymore) from middle school this year. I don't actually remember telling her I'd buy her a new iPod...
The benefits from android over iphone are numerous, two of the ones i find most useful
-folder management (dont have to deal with itunes to manage your music, just treat it like any folders on your computer)
-battery can be switched out, On my captivate I have three batteries and a dock that charges them so I always have one charged and ready which is quite nice.
There are more, especially the custom roms which are really sweet
Well I can tell you that the simple fact that you iPhone users are even on a site like xda tells me two things right away. 1 You guys all have some tech geek in you!! 2 Because of that, you guys will never go back to ios once you guys get the hang of android with rooting and flashing custom Rom's, which is becoming easier practically everyday compared to just a year ago.

It's not at all.
For people coming from iPhones:
-Create a Google account if you don't already have one
-Go to music.google.com
-Download the music uploader
-Have it upload up to 20,000 songs to the cloud (for free)
-Download the app on your Note and they're all there.
You can pin music to your phone if it's something that you listen to frequently or if you won't have a connection for some period of time (eg. flight)
Any music that you add to your computer via ripping a CD or buying it on iTunes or whatever you use, will automatically get uploaded to your Google Music account
Also check out Google Docs. (docs.google.com)
There's a batch uploader so you can have access to all of your documents on your phone instantly. They're stored in the cloud so you can edit them on the go, go to any computer, sign in to docs.google.com, and continue working from where you left off.
They just added offline support about a week ago too for Docs

how do you guys rate the xperia s?

hi all,
just wondering what you guys make of your xperia s's?
i've had an htc wildfire s for around 8-9 months now i guess and i absolutely hate it.
it;'s slow, it has no memory, crashes all the time and is generally a terrible piece of technology.
thinking of getting myself an xperia s because i can't really justify spending £500 on an iphone ha ha.
how do you guys find your phone in terms of reliability/stability? how's the battery life?
are there any drawbacks or issues you have noticed? what other benefits does it offer other than being a hell of a lot faster and prettier than my htc?
i've read something about it having psn store? how does that work?
sorry for the total lack of orgranisation in this post, i'm just eager to learn
phone is wonderfull, i would never change it.
But i give it 8 of 10, cuz had problem with yellow tint on display, and some others...
battery life is quitly good.
Battery life is not so good, how long should I charge the phone?
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
Very nice, good battery life if you don't overload it, the software is really good.
Sent from my EPAD using Tapatalk 2
cool, thanks for the input guys.
yellow tint though? maybe a faulty unit? or is this a common issue?
i'm thinking of going for this over the iphone now because it has
-twice the battery
-twice the processing speed
-twice the storage
-12mp camera
-psn store
-around 2/3 the cost (have seen in online for £360, vs apple's £500).
just not sure because i really like the iOS5 and the general smoothness of the iPhones....but this xperia does seem to blow it out of the water on every level ha ha.

The delay of ICS has seen me lusting after the One X and, more recently, the S III BUT they are considerably more expensive and actually similar in spec anyway.
I think once ICS arrives, I'll fall back in love with this. The screen blows everything (those two included) away!

cool, thanks for the input guys.
yellow tint though? maybe a faulty unit? or is this a common issue?
i'm thinking of going for this over the iphone now because it has
-twice the battery
-twice the processing speed
-twice the storage
-12mp camera
-psn store
-around 2/3 the cost (have seen in online for £360, vs apple's £500).
just not sure because i really like the iOS5 and the general smoothness of the iPhones....but this xperia does seem to blow it out of the water on every level ha ha.

The most recent devices haven't got this issue anymore, but you don't have much control over how new a device you'll receive and there are reports of it disappearing over time anyway.
I ordered mine from 3 (UK) the same night my girlfriend ordered hers directly from Sony, and I got a newer model which doesn't show any sign of a tint (w19) compared to hers (w13), and I had .73 firmware compared to her .67.
Having said that, she's not a gamer or anything and just uses the phone for calls, texts, facebook etc and hasn't noticed any tint either (often contributed to high phone temperatures). I think by the sounds of it, and there's no offense intended here, but coming from a Wildfire, I wouldn't expect you to be a massively heavy user and an Xperia S would be fine for you.
The screen is absolutely fantastic and is easily comparable to, if not better than the iPhone retina. I don't think you'll regret getting one in the slightest.
nice one, yeah, i've been reading a bit more about this phone, and a lot of people say that the yellow tint thing goes away after time (and that many other smartphones, including iphone, are subject to similar problems anyway).
yeah, coming from the wildfire s, i just basically want a phone that WORKS
went down to carphone warehouse today to have a little play around on one, and i was pretty impressed, it all seems pretty smooth and fast (and that was on an old software version i believe, since it's just a display model, which they won't bother keep updating it all the time).
one thing i did notice was the lack of the psn store on the display model....it had the playstation app where you can view playstation news and blogs etc, but the store didn't seem to be there....
this was one of the main reasons i was thinking of going for this phone specifically....is there any reason why it was missing? is it because i'm in the uk? :S
hopefully it's just soemthing that comes with an update or something?

The PSN store is quite useless really. Any decent emulator blows it out of the water.
yeah, but i don't plan on rooting or any of that jazz with this phone :s
and i have a fair ammount of psone games already on my psn account
am i right in thinking it is definitely available in the uk though? just wondering why it wasn't there on the display model in store :s

PS1 games you bought for the PS3 won't be playable on the phone.

For now, you can buy other games. I think they're working on that, just not quite there yet.

ah, cool. long as they are doing something about it :s it's one of the major selling points in my view :s
i mean £3.99 isn't exactly a bad price for some classic games, but i don't see the point in buying them again if i've already bought them on the ps store before :s ha ha.
i might just go ahead and order this tomorrow (my sisters friend is selling her iphone 4 [not 4s] so i'm borrowing it for tonight to see what i think....but i'm more likely to go for the xperia s i think.....it's just an amazing looking phone

When I went into o2 at Westfield Statford to test the Xperia S I was a little bit bummed by the overall smoothness of it due to some minor lag etc but when I checked it's running time it had been on for over 500 hours (3 weeks) and of course every tom **** and harry been experimenting on it.
When I got my own XS the experience was 10x better so if you liked the display model you should like it even more when you own one
yeah i'm going to order this tomorrow, if i get it form argos i get 7 months to pay it off (and if i use my dad's discount it puts it down to £360, same as play.com and amazon).
i've just read also that these phones come pre-fitted with a screen protector
is this correct (especially for uk peeps)?
if so, that's genius, because applying those things are near to impossible without getting bubbles etc.
does anyone use another screen protector on top? or is it best to use the pre-fitted one until it gets scratched/damaged.
i was going to go carphone warehouse and get their pro-fitting/lifetime warrenty, but if it comes pre-fitted i needn't bother until it gets damaged?
yes, it indeed comes prefitted with a screen protector so just use it as is, it's great
(and they also included an extra one in the box too!!)
battery life is pretty good, and should be better once Ice Cream Sandwich releases (soon), so the only thing i've done is switch auto-sync off, mobile network as 2G and screen brightness to about one-third
the (built in) Power Saver app, timed saver modes also help (I set it to switch wi-fi, 3g, bluetooth, nfc, screen brightness etc to off or low between 1am and 7am for example)
as for PlayStation certification:
you get a link 'Let's start PS Store' to instructions
where you can download PS Store
so I don't know whether it connects with PlayStation Network PSN ID (haven't tried yet!!)
but the forthcoming PlayStation Mobile might be what PlayStation certified devices have access to
I've used Xperia S for about one month.
I feel Xperia S with DooMKernel & Xperia SSpeed ROM is SO GOOD!!!!!
I can use Xperia S all day long without charging.
Hi Gloris,
Forget about PSN and go ahead and buy this phone, for me it's the best smartphone ever exists since now, and it will be better after some weeks with android ICS ; I was using the iphone's model since many years, after buying the 4s, I was very disappointed! it's a jock, it's maybe useful for the paraplegic persons, but how really needs to speak to his phone! which asks you to repeat many times .... well, I sold my Iphone 4s after 2 weeks of use, and I bought an HTC sensation XE and I updated to ICS 4.0.3, I was very impressed by this OS, it's excellent, no more syc with itunes, you have just to copy and paste what you need in your phone via USB cable, (music, pics, files, apps, games ...), but I was still disappointed about the hardware of this HTC, so I bought my xperia S since one month, version 67 with no yellow screen issue, and now I'm really satisfied and it will be better after the release of ISC .... the camera is just wonderful, the screen excellent, 1.5 ghz processor, 1 go RAM, 32 Go HDD, sound Sony! I’m using it with a beats audio headphone, it’s a crazy …. You can pay movies full HD 1080p and link you phone to the TV via HDMI cable …. No seriously, stop asking questions and go buy it ….
