Hi all, this issue is driving me to distraction! I've changed my internet service provider and they have sent out a new router (d-link DSL- 2680) to use and since hooking everything up my Hero no longer recognizes the router i.e. I will do a wifi scan and it will display a list of all the other routers within range but my new router will not appear on the list?! So frustrating as I use my Hero as my main internet connected devise at home! Any suggestions or help would be welcome! Thankyou!

Hello!
I'm new here as u can see. But It's funny that I got the same router DSL- 2680 with the same issue.. My Hero is running SHPONGLE v3.6 (what a great rom!) :good:
I have three laptops which are using this router with no problems at all. Hero just doesn't like the DSL?
Problem solved
What I did: Went to routers setup. --> Wi-Fi Protected setup --> tick off Enable
It's working great now. I hope this helps u a bit, stevieg73.

Hello,
What kind of protection you use on the router?
Try WPA-2 password on router settings, reboot the router and try again.
I hope this helps.

i tried other wifi spots but still i got same results.. what seems to be the problem? do u think its hardware issues? i can detect all the wifi connections available but once i got connected, i cant browse or use the market. is it hardware?
also to add to the problem, i tried the bluetooth, i cant receive files but i can send files to others..
i think best way is to flash another ROM .. Wipe everything before you flash & see it it works otherwise flash Radio if you not having latest one Radio for Hero GSM Then i think VillainROM Guys are having you can check their forums ..and try that
i think i have issues with my wifi at home.. because when i try public wifi's i can connect to some but i also cant to some free wifi. which is weird. i have a wildfire before and this was not an issue for me
Last year I had a similar problem that I fixed by assigning my hero a static ip address. For some reason dhcp did not work.
Strangely enough I don't have that problem anymore.
Back then I had stock 1.5 OS. Now I have every ROM. Well, you know what I mean.

This could very well be an issue with your router firmware. Some routers are just plain ****ty.
Can you maintain a connection without any encryption (WEP,WPA,WPA2,etc)?
Hi all
I want to know how tk connect ad-hoc wireleas its really needed??
Thanks.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
It really depends on what you want to connect to with the AD-HOC wireless connection the HD2 uses as some electronic devices do not support AD-HOC like most Sony products for example. But there is a work around. So please post back here with what you are trying to connect to.
I have internet sharing to other so i want to connect the shared internet but the shared wireless does not shown in wireless.

Sorry for the late reply but I think you are looking for WiFi Router for Windows Mobile. There is also a paid WiFi Router app in the Market call WMRouter if I remember correctly. But I use to use the free one all the time and loved it.
I dont think u get my question.
I want to connect the ad-hoc wireless ,when u share internet from ur pc the type of connection is ad-hoc some device cant read this wireless or find it,so the point is by which way i can connect from my hd2 to those type of wireless?
Thank u very much.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Ok I think I might understand you question now, and yes I know what AD-HOC is. To put it simply it is a computer to computer connection. Anyway if you are talking about using the AD-HOC connection to put your HD2 online via your computers internet connection then you will have to use a WiFi router and access your home internet connection via Wifi. I don't think you can connect your HD2 any other way to non cellular network, at least that I know of.
Ok
so its microsoft .
thank u very much .
Hi there,
I have encountered some strange problem with my HD2.
I cannot make ad-hoc connections with most laptops, except for maybe one.
This means, I cannot connect to an ad-hoc connection set up on a laptop, nor can I turn my HD2 into a wi-fi router with most computers.
The connection is detected but after trying to connect, it just cycles and eventually windows (tried xp, vista and 7) notices that it cannot connect.
I have read that it may be the case of:
1. IP mapping (but why should this happen if all these laptops did connect with my previous i8000?)
2. WLAN Channels (Whereas I found no way to access/change them on wm6.5)
It's a new HD2 so it's got the pre-installed sharing feature. I also used the wmwifi router trial and downoladed the htc installable router app (tom codon's).
I've searched the forums for 3h allready and found no conclusion - will be really greatful for some hints.
Thanks.
Hi All
Please don't let me down!!
Just had a Virgin Media SuperHub delivered and installed, I have a Windows XP and Windows 7 PC connected and accessing the internet via WiFi but I for love nor money I don't seem to be able to connect my Hero to the internet, it connects fine to the SuperHub but does not have any internet access. Very frustrating as you can imagine. VM Customer support were next to usless.
I can ping the phone from the hub using the settings in my browser, I can even log in to the User page on the hub from my phone, just cant access any web pages from the phone
I have looked through all the setting and cant see what I need to do. My hero is running Cyanogen Mod 7.
Please Please Please can someone help?
/Rich
Did it used to work on your previous WiFi network? Before the virgin? Also ensure that the network security code is correct and if still not working try switching to a different Rom. If still the problem persists it may just be a problem with your virgin hub. The only way around this problem I personally see is to get on giffgaffs £10 unlimited data tariff.
Hope that's helped!

It connected fine to my old router, which I bought because I had trouble connecting it to an old links one.
I have temporarily re connected the router it dose connect to, but I'm now not getting the full benefits of the new Virgin Media one.
Any ideas?

If it connected fine to your old router, it's definitely a problem with the new router. Most probably the Virgin's modem technology is far too advanced for our old hero's. You could try flashing a new Rom, that may just do the trick, although unfortunately I don't see any other way around this

That's what I was worried about. Thanks for confirming that.

Is it possible to have my Virgin router and my old router running at the same time?
Sent from my Hero using Forum Runner
If you've got two separate phone
lines then yes, although you'd need two different broadband providers too, and that'll set you back a fair bit. Waste of money tbf.

So I couldn't daisy chain the old router off the VM one?
Sent from my Hero using Forum Runner
No no certainly not, a daisy chain wouldn't work. You can't get a loop from one modem to another and expect them to function normally.. what was even wrong with your first provider and the modem to change you're mind? I'm sure virgin can fix the problem because you do say the hero identifies the network and connects but no webpages appear, and you try a different Rom?

Have you tried to reserve the MAC adress of your phone and provide an ip adress everytime you connect through wifi? (you can do this in your router settings - if you can acess that!).

I don't have two modems, I have the Virgin Media hub, which is a modem and router all in one and I have my old Edimax router which was connected to my old modem.
Could I run boh routers at the same time like this - my PC's would connect to the VM Super hub and then my phone would connect to the Edimax router which would be connected to one of the ports on the VM Super hub?

You can try, but I doubt you'd have much luck connecting it onto the virgy hub.

Hello
Im a proudly owner of a S3 and a GNexus and I have some problems regarding Wi-Fi, I know that this is not an S3 problem but its and android problem but perhaps someone can help me in here..
the thing is, I have two routers in my house, one is the master one for cable/internet company and the other is and range extender to expand the signal of the wireless lan....
every morning, when I wake up, if I go to the floor where is the first router both my S3 and Gnexus connect successfully to the wireless network and evevyrthing works fine....however if I go to the floor where the bridge/extender is located, both phones detects the wireless network, however can't connect to it, on wireless settings says...Obtaining ip address...and stays there for ages...and nothing...cant connect...for me to connect to the bridge, I have to restart the bridge and both phones connect immediately...
please any ideas??
thanks and best regards,
hugo

Is it password protected? If so try making it 'open' or change the encryption type.

Hi,
first thanks for the quick reply,
yes the network is password protected...I changed the encryption type for the WPA not the WPA2 and the problem still persists...
the thing that kills my brains is that, to connect to the bridge I must restart the the access point every morning,....
thanks

yes, I guess so....., should DHCP be enabled or disabled?
sorry but this situation is driving me crazy.....
I cant connect to the brigde/extender network right now with both my android phones and android tablet, however with my laptop running windows 8 I can......
wth??????
this is so frustrating!!!!!
Are you sure the second device extends the main access point and not just create a new WLAN?
Have you updated the firmware of both devices?
What devices do you have?
Am I understanding correctly that your laptop does work even though both Android devices don't (before you reboot the extender)?
Nope...its not creating another wireless lan... it extends the main plan correctly cause my laptop connects perfectly to the Wi-Fi from the extender even prior to the restart of the extender....
The devices are...main router from the ISP- Thomson
Range extender- tp link 701nd
Thanks

Both have latest firmware? Might be a bug in the WiFi driver of the AP/ROUTER... or it's in Android.... you will need to test by trial and error I guess...
Ok..
Do you guys know anything if I must have my IP static or dynamic?
Thanks

Dynamic would be the friendliest to work with... you could try if it's a DHCP issue by setting a fixed IP when the problem occurs, but I don't think it is.
This is not a problem with the phone(s)....is with the router config. Contact the manufacturer for further assistance...

If you got a router and a range extender, there's nothing you need to fiddle with because the range extender will just Relay DHCP requests between client and master router.
Two routers* pushing out IP addresses is a no go, there will be a conflict in your scenario, and all range extenders will of course take this into account.
If you had two "real" routers*, it would still be possible to set everything up, although then there's a lot to take into account.
* Router is a inaccurate term used for the consumer grade combination devices. They're in fact a router, a switch, and a wireless access point bundled in a neat package. Sometimes with a xDSL modem or something on the external interface of the router.
Try setting the IP to static and more important, try giving it a default gateway to the routers IP. That should make it easy for your phone to directly look for the gateway it is looking for.

I have three routers, one main, one extender, one repeater (creating a whole new network for other building). Both main and repeater are the same network. All is config as per DD-WRT documentation. All three have latest DD-WRT.
After trying many things, all I can say is the (or mine at least) S3 always has trouble when many APs are nearby. I don't use VOIP because of that (it could disconnect at any time).
Next step on my list is to have 3 different SSIDs (only two now) and try using tasker to debounce the wifi switching (if that is even possible).
