Just ran across this thread over at the Slate Droid forums. Could someone test this method or at least elaborate on whether this is possible to implement on the Gen8's
I'm realy interested in ad-hoc tethering with archos 70IT, but I'm using Android for 2 days now so the instruction there is a nightmare for me
You need root for it to work. No root, no ad-hoc.

I know that. I forgot to say I was curious if anyone with temp root tried that method.
Moved to general as not android development
temp root wont work because the FS is still compressed, IE: Read Only. until someone cracks that one, it wont be editable, therefore impossible
youd have better luck working on getting your device to allow infrastructure wifi instead *hint hint*

Sorry , It is my first post on this forum.
Where should I have to post it ?
haha, no. sorry, my post was in the wrong thread
you want some temporary root like archangel so you don't need to install the SDE, correct?
so check out the [INFO] .. root ... thread (it's sticky in this subforum) if there are other possibilities. afaik there aren't other rooting mechanisms without installing SDE.
Hello
Yes you are correct.
I need to get root without installing SDE.
MY A70 is still in warrant ( I bought 3 months ago)
I need root to change buttons position in advise bar on the top.
I noticed it allow full scree on many application like video player, games and megavideo streeming view.
I hope some great XDA developer will find an ARCHANGEL or similar solution to get the root simply.
Hello could someone please point me in the right direction to root this thing. I've notice there are different methods and a lot of brick talk on here so I'm a little reluctant to use one.I'm not new to the root I have rooted my evo,intercept,g2, galaxy tab. But all those seemed pretty safe I have t 201 and I updated to ics. One more thing I don't care much about the roms just want to run rooted programs so is it even worth it with such a new device?
I rooted mine with sparkys root but first use the unlock tool <unzip your unlock tool prior>...sparkys app is easy either download it with your computer then place in the file of your liking to open and install the app... or i think you can just download it from his page in developement with your prime. And has uproot available which I have done and then rerooted just for fun... enjoy your rooted Prime..

Hey, I own this device too and I've also been looking for a custom ROM and a root method with no results. I hope you found something already and if you did I was hoping you could tell me where I can find what I'm looking for. If you can tell me as well where can I find the root method with linux tell me please.
I wish you answered me ASAP because I'm going to sell the tablet if I'm not able to improve its performance.
Thank you and sorry if my english is too weird, I'm Spanish haha

If you like to root your device first of all you will need device drivers.
Archos ADB drivers
Then you will need a tool or a script with tools to root it.With a quick google search I found that RootBurnerTool could do the trick.
RootBurnerTool
If this method fails you could try other tools:
Root MANY ANDROID! (Bin4ry methods)
Unlock Root Tool
SRS One Click Root for Android
I hope it helps you!
And what about any custom ROMs for my Arnova 10c G3?

Thank you for that, as soon as I try it I'll tell you.
Do you have any idea if any custom ROM is available for the Arnova 10C G3? I can't say I didn't try hard searching for it...
I got a second hand Arnova 10c G3 the other day.
It was hardly used. I rooted it with SRS One Click Root for Android, so that one works.
And yes, I would also like to know if there's a custom rom. The device is a bit sluggish.
Anyway, it's a cheap device to see if I like a tablet at all, having a good PC that's always on, and a good phone. So far I used it to read my comics on

Ok guys so i got my xtz today and i was wondering if there is an overclock kernel? Also would someone mind explaining to me the whole bootloader/root process? I'm not sure what the bootloader unlock does either; is that only for the cellular versions? The model number is SGP311 (16gb wifi) and im running the build ending in 370.
Thanks

As far as bootloader/root is concerned i am not really an expert. But the way i understand it is as follows:
the bootloader is kind of like the bios on a pc. From there you can change the os (android) without having booted up the os. So you need to have acces to the bootloader to install a new os.
Rooting is just getting acces to the system files, files normally shielded by android to prevent users from messing up their device.
With root acces you can change more settings that would other wise be inavailable.
Be careful with rooting/unlocking the bootloader your device might become a very expensive paperweight (and a bad one at that, seeing how light the tablet is).
There should be threads on this forum detailing the bootloading/unlocking proces. I can't help you with that, but i suggest you search in the android development section for this device.
Good luck!
Hi, I'm new to this community. I have experience jailbreaking my iphone, but I am unfamiliar with how the different rooting applications work across multiple platforms (e.g. are they universal). I was thinking of buying a Sonim XP8 because it has a bunch of interesting features that I haven't seen on mainstream phones. However, I am not willing to buy one unless I am able to root it. Is my dream possible?
I too would like an XP8 with root. Is there anyone who can help with this request per chance?

I did read somewhere (on XDA) that someone rooted the XP7 with kingoRoot, but....that's all I've found.

I tried kingoroot, and it failed. I haven't been able to find any options either. Hopefully, someone has some ideas. I have come to rely on root to block ads. They are beyond horrible.
any update yet? is there any root yet ive tried about every root apps i cant even find working drivers for this phone
Sonim xp8 dual sim issue
When i put 2 sim cảd to the device but only 1 work
I talked to Sonim about getting root access as there is a problem with my Xp3800 flip and I know its just a xml edit. They told me the phone cannot be rooted as its encrypted and has secure boot which makes sense as these are geared towards public safety
Hello Everyone,
I'm new to the forum and have been reading old posts to get current on the state of the collective effort here. Though I'm looking to contribute overall anyway I can, my current short term goal is to get hotspot working with my current carrier (Mint) with the used XP8 I purchased. The handset was originally an AT&T phone and came with the Android 8 update installed.
At the moment, I'm attempting to get the 10 firmware update hoping that might solve the hotspot issue, but I suspect that it's the carrier specific software baked into the image that's the real cause.
Today I reached out to AT&T and, despite not being a customer, they claimed to have allowed my phone (By IMEI) to get access to the 10 update. We'll see if it actually works as the tech indicated that it would take two hours for the authorization to propagate. If so, I'll attempt to pull off the firmware and share it.
