The swype that came packaged with the vibrant was able to delete words from it's dictionary. If a word needs to be deleted, click the word then click the swype key.when the word selection comes up press the "x" then press the swype key again and it will ask if you want the word deleted from the dictionary. There may be a faster way, but the point is that the feature is there. I've tried this numerous times with the swype included on many different roms but the function is absent from all the ones I have tried which is annoying because many of the swype versions included in the roms have a screwed up dictionary. has any One else notice this, and is there a fix or work around for it? I know many have asked about deleting words from the dictionary but I haven't notices any one mentioning the delete function.

Only worked on user added words in my experience. Any base words can't be deleted.
so i guess it still comes down to figuring out how to edit the base dictionary then...

Is there any way to remove words that were auto-saved short of a factory reset? They are not in the user dictionary and I found some instructions that said long press the word will bring up a menu to delete that word but it doesn't come up. These are the words that if you have your settings to set to automatically learn new words, it'll automatically save them and not the specifically user added words.
It's words like "tha" instead of "the". Thanks.

Thanks. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it worked. The errors and saved names are still saved in the dictionary even though I cleared it out. Thanks though; never would have thought to look there. Could it be I had done something?
I have an X10a, flashed to the global generic (or world generic, whichever one is the correct one for the Americas) running 2.1 with build 2.1.A.0.435, rooted.
It's available on the site, but it involves usernames, and giving my email... and I don't want to do that.
EDIT: I got it. But I need "ADB" or "root explorer" to remove all traces of the previous Swype installation or it won't install. Can anyone help? I am following the directions found here: http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s2-t/434290-swype-keyboard-acts-up.html
I have always had to use Titanium Backup (rooted) to uninstall swype so that a new official beta would install. The new Swype no longer uses a separate installer and can be updated from inside the app itself so at least that's an improvement.
On the new beta Swype, the alt characters are less visible than they were in previous versions (like a poorly themed version) but my main problem is that it is not taking my system font as it is now supposed to do. The characters are too small and unchanging no matter which of my rom's (dlev on captivate) 20+ installed fonts I choose. Perhaps there is some font package I can install so swype will see them?
I would really like to just get a swype.apk themed like the previous version of official swype since the letters were a good size and font and the alt characters are clearly visible. And a swype.apk that has the licensing functions stripped so does not have problems every time I change the rom. I know xda cannot host these files, but can someone please tell me what google search string I can use to find one of these to download? It would be greatly appreciated.
If I can't get this, I will finally just give up on Swype and settle with Slideit. Swype has been a constant pita to me for over a year since every time I loaded a rom or the beta updated I have had to figure out how to uninstall the old version, resignon to swype, redownload, reinstall, etc. If it was not my favorite keyboard I would have never gone through the hassle. Why it can't be sold and distributed like a regular app in the market and easily skinnable I don't know - I would gladly pay $10 to avoid all the hassle.
I was using swype for about half a year and it was pain in the ass...for czech language swype is very stupid almost every second word is predicted wrong even with biggest option to predict right...and its very annoying to waiting for new version and installing through installer and blabla...as you said, i gladly pay for slideit (and i did) and im very happy with it. More smarter for my language and theme option is just great...
Why not register? What's the harm in that for an excellent app for free?

For english language its great app...but for language where you have lot of punctuation and lot of symbol letters which other languages dont have its pain in the ass...its always aimless and making lot of mistakes.

Found one by searching for "Swype_v3.23.apk" and it does not appear to have licensing problems. All is good once again.

Thanks, I don't like the new letters either. Will try this one.
Hey guys.
I've been using blackberries for years, and only used the iphone as a daily driver touchscreen device back when it came out. Now, the autocorrect is giving me stress for the most part, because I do and don't need it. I use the ISC keyboard from the app store and I found most of the dictionaries, and they work fine. But I also speak Papiamentu, which is spoken on three islands, Curacao, Bonaire, and Aruba. When I type in papiamentu, it always tries to change every single word which gets really annoying since I type in papiamentu every day.
Now, I wanted to create my own dictionary, and I found a thread on XDA on how to create my own dictionary, but after reading it I felt like killing myself.
Is there any other way I can "teach" my phone papiamentu the same way I teach any other dictionary a new word? Like double tap on the word and it saves it. That again sounds like it's going to take forever to do. I have a papiamentu dictionary and I'm pretty sure I can find an electronic one where I can copy paste all the words.
For now I will just use another input language which I don't have a dictionary for, that way it wont autocorrect anything, but I was just wondering if it was possible. Thanks
You can use Swype and it will learn any word you manually input.

Most newer keyboards have the availability to learn new words...I use smartkeyboard pro...or thumb keyboard has those features as well
I have had issues with Swype since installing the first ICS, where it would stop working, cause the screen to freeze at the most inconvenience times. I thought I was alone with this problem, it appears not here.
I tried troubleshooting, reinstalling, clearing cache, uninstalling, reinstalling, fresh boot with nothing else loaded, nothing worked and I don't know what my problem must of been and was surprised I couldn't find anything else with it.
I searched for an alternative keyboard that would cut the mustard, I don't mind paying for things, but found slideIt not particularly good on the trial, also I do like the way Swype worked when it worked, so was looking for something similar, think I found it below.
I'm not one to normally worry about bothering anyone else, however after my woes of Swype and getting pretty much to the point of going back to Gingerbread because of it I have been very impressed, you can also utilize the unconventional keyboard layout if you wish.
Give it a go, worth it, for free anyway!

I always wipe before and after flashing.
I always use stock ROM or AOSP.
I format system every Time I went frm one type to other.
And I only use Swype as I'm used to it and even thinking about typing is tyring.
I can't believe I just read that spam excuse of a post, in Comic Sans MS no less
Is it possible to un-see something?

Yea cheers for that oinkylicious (WAC), I stated I do not normally post something, but found a benefit to myself that others may assist from. Personally I prefer Comic Sans - and?!
May I take it from your comment you don't want me to post any more.
I'll just observe, good job everyone doesn't just do that, xda would be dead and buried...
Go troll and spread your love elsewhere if you've no post related comment or have any form of positive input..
is there any way to export my existing swype personal dictionary to the new version? please note that the app has a different name to the previous versions...
Yeah, I'm trying to figure this out myself... subscribing.
not completely sure, but i think the personal dictionary moves along to new version.
Also, where are you updating from? I looked in the installer, the keyboard settings and it doesn't say anything about updating?
I just went back to the website to download new installer. I saw in the announcement thread that it might take up to 72 hours for the update to hit the phone.
However, it's no longer named "Swype"... it's named "Swype Beta" now. And the data folder changed from com.swype.android.inputmethod --> to com.nuance.swype.input. In this new program folder, there isn't the same swypedata folder that contains the udb folder, which holds the actual UserData.udb dictionary file...
Upon initial install and testing, the existing user data was not there. Although I could have borked the "proper" process by going around the built-in updater - but I'm impatient and there was no "check for update" or anything similar for me to make it reach out and pull it down.
I'm rebooting now to see if that folder appears after adding a few words to the dictionary in the new Swype Beta.
I think that new swype wont save your old dictionary since the 3.26+ version is made with new language engine and whole database and core of the app is different
I was frustrated by this as well but the new version is pretty nice, there's a SMS to Swype app that will help import some personal words, helps when starting over.
Ya, even though the old user dictionary won't convert over, this new version of Swype is amazing. Its accuracy and prediction improved alot.....I noticed the keyboard removed some useless fluff buttons as well to make it easier to press others.

Oh so it's because of the new folder and core system? hmm maybe I could try and mess around and move the files to the new folder but... since it now integrates the "learn from your accounts & stuff" function, like Swiftkey... migrating the dictionaries becomes a little... irrelevant at least for me

In my case the Swype icon just poped in the Notification bar when I logged today to my wifi at home. Anyways it should have an option saying "updates" or at least it should check periodically for update info. All swype pads usually do :x
One thing that caught my eye tho... was the huge difference in sizes from the previous app I was using to the new beta version... the former has around 5MB and the latter around 10MB! I was like "whaaaaaaaaaat!?"
I'd suggest checking out the Swype beta forum.
Yes, there is some pretty good stuff in the "new beta", but I've actually gone back to the previous one for the time being.
First, the custom dictionary is NOT compatible, that seems non-negotiable.
Also I don't like the new method for swapping languages, nor do I like how each language has its own keyboard layout.
I have just noticed that my phone has not managed to go to sleep since the new beta was chosen as the default input method, though I need to look into this a bit more, starting with their beta forum. But it's an unusual coincidence...
I only type in English....so any weird Language swapping issues don't bother me at all
Sucks you can't import it, but it's worth starting again for the new features - i've been using the new version for a few days and imo it's far superior
Yes it's far superior, but can any one pull the trick of importing the old dictionary,I'm really missing my dictionary n at the same time want the latest version

I'm really not liking this new Beta, how do you revert to the old version? When I try it just installs the new version again?

I was able to have both versions simultaneously on my Phone. Under language and keyboard settings, the new one is called "Swype Beta" while the old one is just called "Swype". I originally had the old version like everyone else but I never got the update notification....so I went and manually downloaded the new version. The new version did not overwrite the old....it made a separate keyboard entirely.
I was so happy with the new version, I just uninstalled the old version
I had both versions but stupidly deleted the old version, installer and apk. Just wondering if I can get it another way.
Found the old version, all's good!
From http://forum.swype.com/showthread.php?6389-Next-Generation-Swype-Beta-June-2012-Details-inside -
"NOTE:The user dictionary from ALL previous Swype Beta versions will not work with the new version of Swype Beta. Unfortunately, we couldn't make necessary improvements to the underlying architecture of Swype while maintaining backwards compatibility. Check out personalization in Swype Settings > Swype Connect to quickly train your dictionary back up."
This is kind of a bummer, but the fact that I can delete any and all nonsense bs words I want trumps that disappointment.
"…AND, you asked for it! Swype Beta now supports:
Default dictionary editing! Just long press on the word when it’s in the horizontal candidate list to remove it from your default dictionary"
I have trouble with question mark use....
When swyping from "m" to spacebar it enters "M." a lot, the keyboard didn't used to do this, just new version for me....
Anyone else?

Unfortunate but not completely lost
I had to install through Swype Installer to receive the new one. It is so much better. Single tap typing has improved greatly as well as the swiping.
You can't import your old Dictionary but contained in the new Swype Beta settings are options for it to import your texts, gmail, twitter, and facebook account so it will adapt to your way of typing/speech.
I still had to add a few but for the most part, this importing of words worked very well.

Same here. When using English dictionary it's ok but when I change to my default language which is Czech it's nearly impossible to Swype question mark. No problems with !
