Just achieved root using azuzu's method and the fist thing I attempted was to get rid of the dull-dark backgrounds on the Stock ROM and use the bright blue backgrounds from the Xperia 1.6 days, which was also ported to 2.1
I modified the framework-res.apk on PC and used RootExplorer to overwrite the existing framework-res.apk but still I dont see any changes in the backgrounds. Any idea what's amiss? Here is a strp-by-step writ of what i did:
1. Use root explorer to copy the existing framework-res.zpk to /SDCARD/
2. Transferred the apk to PC, replaced the existing semc_bg.png and semc_general_bg in the archive.
3. Transferred the modified apk to sdcard.
4. Using root Explorer on the phone, copied the modified apk to /system/
5. Changed the permissions to match the original apk
6. Copied the modified apk from /system/ to /system/framework/ and overwritten the original apk
7. The file gets overwritten successfully - but there is no change in the system background images
Whare am i going wrong? AFAIK there is nothing wrong with the apk (I have learnt that an incorrect framework-res.apk can brick the phone!)
You also need to edit system/framework/SemcGeneralUxpRes.apk
Locate SemcGenericUxpRes.apk (system/framework) and SystemUI.apk (system/app).
They will also need to be modded for a full theme on GB.
*Edit- Lol, M_I ya beat me to it
Thanks @My_Immortal and AyDee.
I had checked the SystemUI.apk and there was nothing to edit in the package. Checking the SemcGenericUxpRes.apk now, will let y'all know soon!
It worked!!! Thanks guys...my UI looks much lore alive now! http://media.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Also don't forget to replace the image for landscape mode too
here is something I wrote earlier:

@riginal : I worked out that bit myself, but thanks all the same.
Hi all.
First, all credits go to Kyrillos and Hillbeast cause they show me how to fix that
Sooo here we go : You wanna enable 9 lockscreen mod without these ugly small bug icons and you want that with every deodexed JPU rom ?
Follow those steps !
* Download this .zip : Download here
It contains the framework and the libs that enable 9 lockscreen mod.
* Now you have two choices:
- Either you flash by CWM directly, without changing anything, so you will have by default the theme of Kyrillos v9.0+.
If you do so, then you can flash all themes that are compatible with 9 lockscreen mod (Delete all the .jar files in the update !! And follow the theme installation of course )
- Either you change the .zip, by adding your own framework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk (Do not forget your themed apps, add a folder 'app' in /system (Use 7-Zip to do so))
WARNING : Do not remove / modify the lib folder or these three files from framework folder : framework.jar, services.jar and android.policy.jar
* Reboot your phone, and enjoy
Credits :
Kyrillos for helping and his modified framework
Hillbeast for show me the way of missing libs

Try wipe dalvik cache.
If it doesnt work, check that you have removed all .jar in the .zip of your theme. You only need jars files from my zip that you downloaded.
Then if it doesnt work too, post in the thread, the community will help you
You should add that it works on JPU. On any other froyo firmware it may be buggy.
Ah sorry yes..
I always forgot that Indians got an other firmware... Sorry, will modify that ^^'
If someone on ddjp6 could try and tell us, would be great

Is this 9 lockscreen MOD?
Yes, it's a way to enable it in JPU (with a default theme : Kyrillos v9.0+, and all libs required)
After flash it, u can flash every theme which requires 9 lockscreen mod, like Miui 1.4.5 by Ghost in the Ruins for example
I'm currently on a stock JPU deodexed with the Miui 1.4.5 theme
So do i have to install kyrllios 9+?
Sorry for questions. I'm noob.
Certainly not
You can just flash this .zip from CWM without modified anything and enjoy with 9 lsm. By default, you'll get Kyrillos v9.0 THEME, just the theme ^^
Then, you can flash every theme you want that requires 9lsm
Nice share mate. This should solve the confusion. I will redirect my theme threads to here for users who are not on custom ROMs.
Is every lib file is necessary in the package you provided, because I noticed that one lib file is of terminal emulator.
I put libs files from Hillbeast.
I will modify it when i can
Sent from my Elora galaxy 3
After flashing the file (wiping dalvik-cache and cache) and rebooting my bootanimation appears but after that booting stucks and all I see is a black screen. It won't start at all.
I tried flashing the zip as it is and a zip containing my framework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk from a UOT-Kitchen-Theme. I also did a third zip containing my SystemUI.apk (which is not affected by my UOT Theme)
For replacing I used 7zip as recommended and also Total Commander.
I'm using a Custom deodexed JPU with converted filesystem as follows:
stl6 ext2
stl7 ext4
stl8 ext2
Any idea on fixing this? (I have a CWM-Backup, so nothing can get lost )

Is the framework that you put in the zip 9 lockscreen modded?? Either flash the zip as it is or put a framework-res.ap that is 9 lockscreen modded into the zip and flash,
And SystemUI.apk?? We don t have SystemUI.apk in Froyo. Please don t put that.
I flashed it as it is AND with my modded framework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk. So I flashed 2 different zips with restoring system and wiping caches between the flash operations. Both zips didn't work.
The SystemUI.apk I used is the one I took from my phone and I replaced the one in the zip for testing purposes.
Do I only have to replace the framework-res.apk and have to leave twframework-res.apk untouched?

No. twframework-res.apk is not modded for 9 locks. Its the same. If you flashed the zip as it is without replacing any files and it still didn t work?? Then I don t have any idea.:/
That's the problem. The provided zip doesn't work. I tried it.
alternative download link possible?
Hi all,
the link given in the first posting is dead -> goes to megaupload.
Would it be possible to get a mirror download link?
That would be very great.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers
qaysed
Yup, sorry. Due to down of MU, i'll give us an alternate download link, but it's not on this PC.
If someone else could up it for me (i could up it in 2 days) thanks in advance for all.
Here's a mirror while megaupload is down or you reuped the zip by yourself.
http://ul.to/ku5rvvya
runs perfect!
thanks for the quick mirror!
works like a charme.
No stopping services, no reboots or freezes.
Libs are also exchanged... that´s new to me.
I assume that is the root cause for my problems, in exchanging the frameworks.
Have to accustom myself to the four symbols on lock screen. First try: opened the phone
and thanks to halco for distributing the file
and of course hillbeast and kyrillos mentioned already in the first posting
Cheers

hi, can you upload to other websites plz! Megaupload is dead
Hello
i have one question and need your help so i make my own rom but i want replace systemui.apk and edit build.prop
so how i can replace systemui do i need replace other file together with systemui or just replace systemui with one from other rom systemui.apk I would like to replace it as far as I know is in there the whole look and icons?and how i can in build.prop edit name of rom, version of rom and author of rom I already tried to edit build.prop tweaks and work fine but when i change rom id in build.prop my rom won't start when install rom so what i do wrong?
So please help me i not need tutorial i just need easy help ho replace systemui.apk do i need replace framework-res when i replace systemui.apk and how edit build.prop id etc......
please help me
systemUI .. i dont know much about, so took this infos from here
Part 1 Theming Android:
First you need the following Tools for this:
-7zip
-A Windows PC
Step 1) Go to your rom you like to Theme and grab you Systemui.apk From system/app Copy it to your desktop!
Step 2) Now open the file with 7zip by right clicking on the file and choose open with 7zip
Step 3) When you are in the Systemui.apk with 7zip go to the Res folder and open up Drawable-hdpi Depending on your phone it could be also Drawable-ldpi or Drawable-mdpi Or Drawable-xhdpi Now just open that folder!
Step 4) when you are in that folder you see a lot of .png files that are all the files you could theme now If you want to theme your Systemui.apk to ICS/JB/GB/Froyo etc... source for the systemui.apk from a phone who is running on that OS!
Step 5) When you have found that systemui.apk from the other OS Then open that Systemui.apk also with 7zip and go to the res folder and than to Drawable-hdpi!
Step 6) when you have bot systemui.apk's opend source for the .png's you want to theme for example you want to theme the wifi signal icon Source in YOUR SYSTEMUI.APK FROM YOUR PHONE to stat_sys_wifi_signal
then also find the excactly same .png in the other Systemui.apk from that other OS and start copying the Files!
NOTE: Please Check the names if they are the same otherwise the systemui will Force Close (Crash)
Step 7) Now when your done copying and theming Close The file and put it back in your rom Flash your rom congratulations you have themed Now your Android Rom!
build.prob is only a small textfile, edditing it via an txt editor is quite simple..
another solution for your customer rom making could be:
StudioAndroid a suit for modding android roms, and apps and so on. it is easy to use and does almost everything you want
or
Rom Maker , less features, a small simply to use version, alsowith build.prob edit.
build.prob tweaks can befoud here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227269
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1808791
.. or look at some zweaking scripts, something like that
have fun, and dont forget to thank :good:

I also answered this in the software developement section for you. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1890347
I am into theming right now and have themed systemui.apk
and m ready to put that in my system.
there are 2 problems right now
1st is that when i recompile systemui using apktool it gives me warnings but builds the apk
even if i recompile it unchanged it gives some warnings
aapt: warning: string 'something' has no default translation in C:/Users/T3/apktool/ab/res; found:mk
there are numerous such lines. ab is directory where i have decompiled systemui.apk
2nd is that my rom is odexed and stock so on replacing systemui.apk it stops
so is there anyway i can put the systemui withoud deodexing my rom??
or some ppl have made flashable zips for systemui. Can someone teach me or give me a link where i can learn doing that??
or is there any way to deodex rom without usin odin and flashing??
Iknow I could have googled but i tried and found somethings related to linux and ubuntu but since im on windows
and here ppl are into theming i thought i could get some help here..
Thanx in Advance
Buddy... delete the systemui.odex and replace the stock systemui.apk with ur systemui.apk . N if u hv modded it correctly. Then it will work.
N
For making flashing zip.
Just add ur systemui.apk in meta inf folder in system/app/here paste it.
U can get Meta Inf folder by google or take it from any other flashing zip.
Don't forget to hit thanks

I am happy today that i have made some changes in CM7 framework-res.apk .
Thats works with HTC Buzz Wildfire
I have made changes in framework-res.apk & add beautiful Lockscreen and Caller Screen Circles.
Also On-Off Switch buttons replace with tick marks etc .. in CM7 Settings.apk
I also changes the USB connections Pictuers.
First make a Backup of your Current ROM.
Secondly, Copy my Framewrok on Your SDCard.
Third, Through Root Explorer Rename my framework-res.apk with " framework-res 3.apk" or can use any digit.
Forth Mount the system & Copy it in system/framework/
change the Permissions rw-r-r
Then Rename your original framework-res.apk as framework-res.bak
And Reboot the Phone.
If your devise well started then go to the root explorer and Rename the current " framework-res 3.apk" as framework-res.apk
But Wait...
In case, if your device bricked....
You should download "cm-7-20130301-NIGHTLY-buzz.zip" from its website....
After downloading Explore the cm-7-20130301-NIGHTLY-buzz.zip with WinRAR.
goto the system/framework and delete the original framework and copy my framework-res.apk
then install it...
Tadaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Enjoy new settings :victory:
