I am very new to this, but I have rooted Vibrant. Everything has been working fine for the most part, things have been going downhill. All day today it's just been extremely slow and when I take pics they either show up in the gallery with a long delay or not at all, I can find them in the files directory. Also, my emails were not being received nor could I send any. After uninstalling a few un-needed apps (I had over 11 GB of memory left to begin with and an empty SD), clearing cache, etc, I decided to just factory reset. I couldn't find anything that could possibly be clogging up my phone. I did, and it got a little better. I am getting my emails now, however, I tried to redownload some of my apps, and I've had major problems. Some of them downloaded completely and then just disappeared. Some of them downloaded and worked, but it took a couple of hours to download a few apps. I have no idea what to do at this point, any advice would be very much appreciated.

I loaded CM 7.1 stable on my Fascinate a couple months ago and sometime there after I started getting Force Closes all over the place.
Rebooting my phone only seemed to temporarily alleviate the issue for an hour or so, but shortly after it would start occurring again. It wasnt until I opened Touchdown that I found the potential cause as it reported I was "Low on space". I found this pretty odd seeing as I had several GBs free on both internal and SD storage.
After searching around a bit I believe it's my cache thats filling up. I ran Clear Cache in CWM it cleared up the issue for several days but eventually it starts occurring again.
First question: is clearing the Cache via CWM on regular intervals going to hurt anything?
Second (and more important) question: Is there any way to fix this without going with a different ROM?
Thanks a bunch in advance!!
I got it too!
I'm having the same issue, or I believe I am. You get a notification saying your low on space, and you can't receive any txtmsg's? Once you clear up the space the msg's come through fine.
I was using the stable for a long time.. and didn't get the error, and then I flashed the latest nightly and that's when I got the error.
I don't think the nightly is what caused the error, I actually believe it's pure coincidence. I've managed to keep in under control and can fix it when it happens.
I clear my cache as well, but I found out that the /data/data also needs some cleaning to get rid of the error. When I free some space in the /data/data I don't even need to touch my /cache at all.
I will post any other findings... info.. etc.. that I find.

your datadata folder is full most likely. You can try uninstalling some apps, or try running ng cache cleaner from market, or read this thread and try this tweak JT posted!
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/5635-problems-with-datadata-causing-force-closes-for-google-apps/
A novice question Im sure, but whats the best/easiest way to see how much free space is available on these partitions?
use the disk usage app from market.
I have been running CM7 since the first pre-beta release as my daily driver, this problem has always existed and I am beginning to think its either settings or my particular phone. The phone itself, CM7 works quite well, scrolls quick and almost all the stock things work quick.
However, most apps have issues hanging and I have the option of closing the app or waiting. If I choose to wait the app will eventually start working after having to click wait several times. It does not appear to be linked to one app, I do not have many apps installed, however here are some of the apps I have with the issue... facebook, espn score center, words with friends. On occasion the gallery will also have issues.
Here is more information about my phone and what I have tried.
Cyanogenmod 7.1.0-ba2tF-Olympus
Kernel: 2.6.32.39-mb860-cm7-g54722f1
baseband: N_01.97.00R
I have tried clearing cache, data, etc. Reinstalling. Removing and readding apps. I tried sd speed increase with little or no improvement. I thought that maybe where the apps are installed is an issue, however do not exactly understand where the storage is as my external sd card and internal "sd card" appear almost identical with folder structure. (I thought this was odd...)
So my question is, has anybody had this issue or have any suggestions on how to fix it? I have searched for weeks trying to find a solution with no success anywhere. I would like to think its something stupid as my phone quadrant scores are around 3700.
Thanks for taking the time to read and any advice!
Hi to everyone.
I was just wondering if any of you have experienced all data suddenly disappearing from you phone. The other day, when I was using the camera I got a message there was problems with the internal memory. I restarted the phone, which took longer than normal. Everything looked OK and I took the pictures I wanted.
When I wanted to look at the pictures I found everything was missing in the internal memory except the pictures I had just taken.
Checking the phone with Quick System Info I could also see, there was no system cache anymore. The system cache reappear, when I unmounted it in recovery, and whipped it. The Data was gone for good.
I'm using stock 4.0.4 prerooted rom and advanced stock kernel v. 11
This message was send from my Iconia Tab using the keyboard.
The same kinda thing happened to me about a week ago.
But mine's slightly more weird due to the fact that I wasn't even using my phone at all.
At first, everything was absolutely fine with no problems. I then came off my phone for a while because I was watching a film. When I then went back onto my phone, I noticed that a couple of apps on my home screen were showing as invalid( so the apk was still there but there was a problem with the data side of it). I went into my file manager to see that everything that was saved internally had disappeared.
It was showing that I'd only used 270ish MB, which I know for a fact is wrong cause I'd pretty much filled it.
But because I wasn't using it and it wasn't even being touched, I fant understand the problem.
I really hope someone replies here and can let us know what caused it to happen. Even though it won't get our data back, it would be good to know why it happened.

Hi folks,
has any of you seen this?
I have the atrix 4g, I have a 16GB sd card, I copied some files (like 2GB in mp3) to the sd card, I safely removed the device from my computer, then from the atrix status bar I changed the usb mode to none and it mounted the card just fine, but now when I try to open apps like gallery, music player, files, or even winamp, they will just hang and I have to force close application.
Also, it drying out the battery very quickly, is like is hanging in trying to read the files.
What can I do? I don't want to have to reset the phone.
Any ideas?
Hi, ok I found the process taking all the cpu, is android.process.media, I dont know what is trying to do, how can I tell why is hanging?
I cant stop it either, is it important?
Thanks

I've had this problem twice. I think that the Atrix's software cant handle so much new media at one time. The first time it happened I ended up preforming a factory reset, which fixed everything (Make sure to back up first!) The second time was when I was adding lots of music again, and since I'm doing this constantly, I ended up unlocking and flashing to CM7.
hmmm yes this ain't my first time with this problem either and i had to reset as well. but that's too much work, i have a mod for the lapdock and having to reinstall is a real pain. but anyway I've manage to kill the media process with the kill -9 command using the terminal emulator as root and t this released everything else, gallery and music are working fine. i still don't know what will affect if i don't let the process start again, i might look for an app that would help me prevent it from starting , but if it causes any pain i will try maybe another flash like you said .
thanks
ok, I might have found another solution, may be too prompt but wanted to share.
I kept searching on google and found more options, since killing the media process wasnt very useful, eventually it would start again and hang everything. Basically, go to Settings, Applications, manage applications, all, tab on media storage and then Clear Data, go back tab media share and clear data, then reboot the phone.
After reboot the media process will start again and will scan all drives, I can see it taking something between 20 and 40%, the common at 25%, is way below the 60% that it was using before, so I gave it a second chance and let it running for a while.
Indeed, after some minutes it finished the rescan and cpu went back to 0% on the media process and I was able to open gallery, music, etc.
So, I kept all my files in the sd card, didnt have to factiry reset and the media process went back to normal.
Hope this is permanent, and hope it works to anyone else with the same.
cheers
First of all, I know this have been asked numerous times but I only got more confused of the threads that were aboout this...
My S2 has been showing the message "Insufficient storage available" for the past 8 or 9 months, but it has gotten worse since. At first I couldn't download any big apps, now I can't even download apps that are small (like 5mb). Anyway, I don't exactly know how it started but it probably has something to do with Android 4.x.x ... It has gotten really annoying because I needed to do some necessary updates on certain apps (WhatsApp for example) and I can't use them anymore because of this problem.
It's probably something with System Data. (yes I know I still have about 600mb of apps, but those are either apps I really need or apps that are on my phone as a default.) But as far as I know, I can't reach that System Data... It's just a chunk of (useless??) data that's just there. I don't really what it consists of, because the app (DiskUsage) I used to look into me storage won't let me open that map (as can be seen).
I WANTED TO SHOW A PICTURE HERE BUT I CAN'T SINCE I'M A NEW MEMBER BASICALLY, THE SITUATION IS LIKE THIS:
DATA [2015 MB]
- APPLICATIONS [574 MB]
- SYSTEM DATA [1397 MB]
- FREE SPACE [what's left. this ranges between ~90mb and ~10mb since I clear cache now and then]
I've been to a store with this problem and they basically said that there is nothing I can do... Is there really nothing I can do? I tried wiping my cache but that didn't do enough. I usually clear 90mb of cache when I do this once in every 3 days (after those 3 days I have about 5mb of space left), but like I said, this doesn't do enough.
Any suggestions? Sorry again as I know there are some threads already about this, but I looked into them and didn't really got a lot out of them...
Thanks in advance.
Did you try *#9900# on phone call menu?
From what I think, it's because of your application files. For example if you always use whatsapp(what I mean here is, if you keep on chatting), it'll store your chat messages into your phone memory which will 'eat' your memory bit by bit. And also, this is from what I've experienced, whenever you uninstalled an application, let's say TubeMate, you'll see tubemate's folder(s) is/are still inside your phone.
So what I'm trying to suggest here is, whenever you want to clear some space, try to delete some of your whatsapp chats or maybe other chat apps that stores chat messages if you don't want to uninstall other app. And when you want to uninstall an application, make sure you delete the app's folders inside your phone.
I'm don't know much about phone memory, so if I'm wrong about it, correct me
p/s: If you can't post link your image since you're new here, you can put your images as attachment.

Why haven't I thought of that 2 months ago... I thought that option was only for clearing my storage of calls and texts and since I don't call or text a whole lot, I thought it wouldn't be beneficial.
I've cleared over 1,2 GB by this. Thanks for your help, really appreciate it!
