Hi there,
I am planing to buy the P500. My question is are there any restrictions when using a Mac to access the phone? Is it possible to access the phone especially up-/download images music etc. or would I need a Windows or linux computer for doing that?
Second question is, is it possible to flash a custom rom to the phone using the Mac?
This will be my first Android Mobile so I am not at all experienced ...
And for the flashing part is there a step to step tutorial how to do it?
Thanks in advance,
Thorsten

Hi All,
I recently bought an Atrix. I would like to root the phone and then flash a custom ROM onto the phone. However, I have a Linux OS on my laptop (running Ubuntu 10.10) and all the guides I've seen use Windows programs.
Has anybody successfully rooted an Atrix using Linux, or has anybody come across a guide that explains it using Linux?
Any help appreciated.
If you looked at the sticky at General forum you would see that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255548

And about flashing roms, you need to unlcok your bootloader first, and you can do it with Linux system, read here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261
Good luck and have fun
Cheers. I'll check out the links later.
The links talk about gingerbread - my Atrix (UK) still runs on 2.2. Will the aforementioned method still work on my Atrix?
Hey all -- just a quick web page to give you guys a head start when it comes to rooting your DROID BIONIC. This method works on Motorola phones running Android OS 2.3.4 or earlier.

Ok guys so i got my xtz today and i was wondering if there is an overclock kernel? Also would someone mind explaining to me the whole bootloader/root process? I'm not sure what the bootloader unlock does either; is that only for the cellular versions? The model number is SGP311 (16gb wifi) and im running the build ending in 370.
Thanks

As far as bootloader/root is concerned i am not really an expert. But the way i understand it is as follows:
the bootloader is kind of like the bios on a pc. From there you can change the os (android) without having booted up the os. So you need to have acces to the bootloader to install a new os.
Rooting is just getting acces to the system files, files normally shielded by android to prevent users from messing up their device.
With root acces you can change more settings that would other wise be inavailable.
Be careful with rooting/unlocking the bootloader your device might become a very expensive paperweight (and a bad one at that, seeing how light the tablet is).
There should be threads on this forum detailing the bootloading/unlocking proces. I can't help you with that, but i suggest you search in the android development section for this device.
Good luck!
